Cracker Barrel Old Country Store

We normally have great meals at Cracker Barrel, but the chicken and dumplings on Sept 14th in Gadsden, AL exit 181 were not good. They were like paste. All stuck together. Of course, we paid for it. Our service was excellent. Store was clean.

Typical Cracker Barrel. Clean. Staff was extremely friendly. Even though we stopped at an odd time, 1:30 pm, for lunch, it took over 30 minutes to get our food. This was hard to understand because what we ordered seemed to be pre-cooked and reheated. Chicken and dumplings was boiled Chicken breast sitting in water in a bowl with a few, very thick, very chewy dumplings on top and a little gravy on that. It came out cold with the water still standing in the bottom. Greens, in a separate bowl were also not even warm. My husband's hamburger steak may have been cooked to order because it was warmer. The food quality was okay, but preparation was lacking. Value-wise, it is better quality for the $25 spent then you would get at fast food place.

Ordered takeout since we were staying nearby. Had country fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, and peach cobbler. The food was delicious and ready in no time. The personnel were very accommodating too. Would definitely return.

Having been to several Cracker Barrel locations, you know the basic layout and the menu. I just ordered a hamburger but it didn't taste as good as other burgers I have ordered from them in the past. It was almost like it was either a premade burger or had been cooked and then reheated. It was dry but with condiments I was able to eat it. I will ask for the fries too be extra crispy in the future, the steak fries were cooked but not very good. The service was good and they kept my drink full and this may have been an off night for them or for me.

She was incredibly attentive, friendly, and had a genuine enthusiasm for the menu, making excellent recommendations that perfectly suited our tastes. Her warm personality really elevated our dining experience, and we felt truly cared for throughout the meal. We will definitely be asking for her again on our next visit!".

My husband and I stopped in for dinner at the Gadsden, AL location near Holiday Inn Express on October 31st. The young man who waited on us had the best personality and did an excellent job taking care of us. He was very personable and is definitely an asset to that wait staff. Our meal was delivered in a very timely manner and was delicious! Thanks!

We've been to eat at this location before and the food & service were both wonderful. This time, the food seemed not as good. Our eggs weren't very warm when they reached the table, and I had to change my order because the kitchen didn't have the ingredients to prepare the food I originally ordered. Our server was very nice and came to check on us regularly. Nice and peaceful atmosphere.

Do not ever order their gravy and biscuits after breakfast. Or their breakfast after breakfast time period. The food was horrible but the service was really great. Our server even let us know that the better cooks come to work during the weekends. However, even after complaining, we did not receive a discount on our food.

Thinnest slice of meatloaf I have ever had. Don’t know how someone sliced it that thin. It tasted good but was cold. The mash potatoes were also cold like they were just taken out of the fridge. Gravy, okra, and macaroni bites appetizer were all nice and warm. Biscuits weren’t warm enough to melt the butter. Waitress was very friendly.

Jan 8th 2025 my wife birthday!! So excited, called 10:25 am ordering her her favorite plate!! Pinto beans, cream potatoes, mac,cheese, carrots!!! We drove 40 miles from blount co. Al ! Done paid for it!!! Got there! Said they didn't have any pinto beans!!! Ok,so I ordered hashbrown casserole!! Instead!! We have never been more heart broken! Carrots so hard! My wife on her birthday had hashbrown and hard carrots, and mashed potatoes!! We used to travel to this place for our special outing!! Not any more!! Oh yeah 30.00 waist!!!

My family and I ended up stuck in Gadsden with car trouble after traveling all day with hungry kids. We arrived at the restaurant around 8:45, and although it closes at 10, we were greeted by an annoyed hostess who essentially threw our menus on the table and mumbled something as she walked away.

When our waitress finally arrived, her attitude wasn’t much better, and it was clear she was irritated about serving us so late. Meanwhile, the other staff loudly banged around chairs and brooms while cleaning, creating a very jarring atmosphere.

I would have left, but it was late, my kids were hungry, and we had been stuck in the car for hours. The food was okay and arrived fairly quickly, but after that, we did not see our waitress again. We eventually had to go to the counter to get our ticket and check out.

Overall, it was a disappointing experience during an already stressful evening.

12/23/24 about 2pm...my food COLD...husbands came out 10 min after mine..his hot! Prices up and very OVERPRICED and NOT worth it. For the price of a glass a tea only received one with meal and had to go get someone for a 2nd !!! One waitress ONLY handling 2 sections. Waited forever to ask for check.
Done with this place!!

Had breakfast there this morn...waitress was fair...food was good but only able to get two cups of coffee since she was more gone then seen...silverware was FILTHY...looked like it wasn't even washed! Look before using silverware

Poorly managed location. We arrived more than an hour prior to closing and were greeted upon walking through the door. Then, all the employees proceeded to ignore us while we waited at the host station until we gave up and left. At least announce you stopped seating people early.

Waited over 30 minutes for.a table despite the restaurant being half empty. They appear to be understaffed. Our food took a very long time to arrive but was adequate once it arrived. Our waitress was very attentive and apologized many times for the length of time the food took to arrive.

Only have it at 3 ⭐️ because we called in 40 minutes ahead of time but when we got to the car no condiments and I’m literally sitting here for 15 minutes on minute 16. I’m so glad I tipped it made all the difference. SMH

Food was ok but as usual there was something i ordered that was wrong i ordered 4 plates and 3 of them were pretty much the same ( meat loaf and chicken & dumplings ) and mine was almost the same with one difference ( meatloaf & fried chicken breast ) but someone failed to completly read the order (online) and just like the other 3 plates i got chicken & dumplings instead. Seeing as how I had to be at work in about an hour i didnt have time to take it back plus i would be eating alone.

We went in for a late lunch around 2 and had to wait for 10 minutes by the host stand to be seated (there was nobody there). Then we were sat and ordered, but it took 30+ minutes to get our food, when we only ordered appetizers. Then, once the food was brought out, we were informed that they were out of one of our appetizers. We ordered something else, and waited about the same time. We never got silverware nor refills. The servers all clustered in one area to hang around and talk to one another. We couldn’t find ours. We had wanted to order dessert, but by the time we found our server, we just wanted to leave. Food was okay.

Quite possibly the worst service ever at a Crackerbarrel. Was seated relatively quickly and the restaurant wasn't busy. As soon as we sat down the waitress asked if we knew what we wanted we hadn't even had a chance to pick up the menu. Then she asked what we wanted to drink and went to get them. I ordered a grilled chicken salad my wife order the grilled chicken plank dinner with a salad. We were asked if we wanted croutons and both said yes. The food seemed to take a long time to come out of the kitchen in comparison to previous visits to other Cracker Barrel's and the low volume of customers. We didn't get the croutons. When the waitress passed our table she asked if we needed anything we asked for refills. She said ok but we didn't receive them. When she came back she again asked if we needed anything we said still need the drinks. She asked what I was drinking again. When she returned again she asked if she could take the empty plates. They were empty! Just clueless.

we waited to be seated 15 minutes but once seated we waited over 40 minutes for our food. We didn't get any biscuits until our food arrived. I was eating with two children. I used to love Cracker Barrel, but the timing is terrible!

It's unusual for me to give 5 star ratings. They are reserved for extraordinary food, service, customer relations, etc.
However, the Attalla, Alabama, Cracker Barrel restaurant deserved this 5 star rating by going above and beyond in every area during our recent visit.
Our server was friendly but not hovering, our food was delivered promptly and was hot and tasty, our orders were exactly as requested and our tea glasses were never empty. In a restaurant setting you couldn't ask for more than that.
Upon paying our bill, we were fortunate to meet and speak with Geneva Woods, the retail manager. She was extremely friendly and made us feel like family friends. She is the kind of employee who makes businesses successful. When I told her of my love for fruitcakes she told me her mother loved them as well so, of course, I left there with a fruitcake to take home.
Our visit to the Attalla, Alabama, Cracker Barrel was enjoyable from start to finish and we can't wait to return.

Went to the Attalla Alabama location this morning for breakfast. Not crowded in the least was told there was a fifteen minute wait just to be seated. We were the only one's in line to be seated. I looked into the dining area and saw more empty tables than full tables. I asked the young lady that was seating guest with all the empty tables there is a fifteen minute wait. She sarcastically replied it was not the empty tables it was the kitchen. I told her no thanks and went to waffle house down the street where the people are friendly with great sevice.

Went out for dinner got seated right away and sat for twenty minutes and not one of the 10 servers on duty came to our table. We ended up walking out with nothing to eat because we couldn't get any one to wait on us. Not a good experience at all, don't think we'll go back. Wasn't like that before. Wake up people and then you wonder why you're not making any tips!

Cold mashed potatoes. Set back to reheat. Biscuits were flat like baking powder left out. Fried chicken was overcooked 20% meat, 80%skin and breading. Not nearly up to CB normal quality.

I had to wait for 1 hour and 20 and we ordered meatloaf and they was out of it and ordered dumplings and was out and also out of carrots and we had two plates and I told the manager I just wanted my money back…Was unsatisfied with the service and also was disappointed about not having what we wanted…We drove 65
Miles round trip… We spent over $42.00 on two meal and this we on a Friday night the date was 11/01/24 at 4:45 p.m. is when we place the order I left there at 6:10 p.m.
And another thing they was two more people was waiting also…

Waitress did not check on us very much. Had to ask for things three or more times. Waited over 29 minutes for lukewarm sides and to be told it would be a few minutes for the chicken and dumplins. Ten minutes later we were told it was still 10 more minutes for the chciken and dumplins. Very disappointed in the Gadsden location. Also after our fiid was delivered we had to wait to get silverware.

We placed a to-go order on the app for pickup today. The email the restaurant received showed pickup time as yesterday (at the time I placed the order). My app showed pickup time today as ordered. Even though it was confusing for a few minutes, the folks that helped us were kind and gracious. And we got our food in record time!!! As always, hot and fresh AND yummy. Thank you all for taking such good care of us. We are customers for life.

This place is undeniably one of the lowest quality restaurants I've visited here. The workers are very rude. I have utilized the to go pickup service on multiple occasions, and every damn time I go to pick it up, they never bring it out. I have to go into the place and find my order sitting on the rack, and it's cold. Whenever I go inside, the atmosphere is very unwelcoming, and I certainly feel out of place

Amanda B. is an excellent server! Very warm demeanor and attentive to our party of 5. At one point while checking on us she noticed my half empty coffee cup and without even saying anything brought a fresh pot on her return trip.

While her service was the highlight of the dining experience, the breakfast food was also excellent and filling. Whenever I come back to Rainbow City I’ll make the push to come here and ask for Amanda!

It was just ok. Reliably predictable choice when traveling the interstate. Always available parking. In fact, if the parking lot is crowded then you can count on a wait for a table, because parking spots outnumber tables two to one. Expect a decent average restroom stocked with paper towels. The menu contains proteins galore for my Keto meal plan. Fresh, hot coffee is usually a given. Seating is not comfortable (intentionally) in order to discourage guests from lingering. Floor space is very tight. Shared spaces with other guests in the gift shop and dining room leaves you with the feeling that you are generally in someone else's space. Now that I'm retired I would prefer to eat higher end restaurants when available because inevitably seating will have screaming children close by and CB dining room is notoriously very noisy anyway. Again, this is a predictable place but just not very enjoyable. I wish CB had a sister chain called Cracker Barrel SENIOR with high end entree choices, wider isles and more spacious dining areas with comfortable seating. Consider a limited seating area that is pet friendly. Maybe a gift shop with items that are not so TOY oriented. Wider parking spaces and a covered entrance option or better yet a covered entrance for drop off and pick up for guests who can't walk long distances to a table. Consider older guests who have a caregiver and a FAMILY REST Room for guests who have a family member who needs assistance with navigating from parking lot to rest room to table and can't stand in a line to pay. The most frustrating part about CB is the checkout process which is almost always a wait in line, rude people skipping the line to jump ahead. A real pinch point of people entering and leaving the dining area. Every CB is designed with the same cramped floor plan problems. The chain who solves these concerns will quickly gain a loyal following of high end patrons.
I'm closing, the back left corner of a CB gift shop is always chaotic, crowded and a place that needs attention. I believe this area could be greatly improved with a little effort on the part of designers. Best wishes. Happy travels!!

Waitress delivered wrong food. Had to ask for straws with long wait. Had to request napkins 3 times (none provided at start) with long wait! There was no crowd when we arrived and ordered, but tables started filling after we ordered. Was not offered drink refill and bread basket had no butter or jelly but had a empty cup and looked like it was discarded by previous customers! Also, chicken and dumplings had no chicken at all! You could taste chicken flavor but no meat whatsoever! Country fried steak was great but had to share since my husband didn’t get meat ordered and waitress never came back to ask

Save yourself a headache and trip from the Gadsden Cracker Barrel and drive to the Guntersville location instead.

Normally everything is great, but this last visit wasn't.
We never got offered our cornbread or biscuits, our drinks never got refilled, and our appetizer was cold, and didn't bring any dipping sauce.

Our server had a large group that was giving her a hard time, I never seen the Manager come out and hep the server, it caused her to have a LONG delay to wait on her other tables
