We saw the reviews for this place and they were only 4.2 which makes me very suspicious of Google reviews. Sure it’s a little on the expensive side but not outrageous by comparison with other popular or trendy spots but in their defense (a) the food was very good: eggs cooked soft and potatoes very well seasoned; french toast was excellent and (b) the portions were huge. We definitely underestimated how much food the two of us would get. We’ll definitely be back.

This place is well-deserved for their popularity! The food and drinks are BUSSIN! (excellent and super delicious!) It can be really packed but if you have time to wait for the seats and eat there, it is worth it! The servers are great and chill! They provide great service, great atmosphere for hangouts. Can be a bit pricey but the portion is worth it! Give it a try if you have never tried their food.
I love their Benedicts and Tea! and their Crepes are great too!

It was our first time dining at the restaurant. We didn't wait long to be seated. As soon as we were called in, at the counter, our orders were taken before being seated. This way, we didn't have to wait fir someone to take our orders. The food we ordered was served hot, appetizing, and delicious. My eldest had the smoked salmon croissant sandwich with sides of fresh salad and country fried breakfast potatoes. I had the California Omelet with the same sides as my eldest's. We shared the honey comb crepe. We each had our own choice of warm tea. It was a great experience to dine here. We will come back soon.

I've been a long time customer ever since this place opened several years ago, but today I am re-thinking if I will ever give them another visit.

Food here has always been great, but today when I called to place a phone order while driving home, I was told that they no longer take phone orders and I will have to order online!

How can I order online while driving on the freeway???

What bugs me more, was the attitude over the phone and the I-don't-care decision by their management. Is it really that hard to take a phone order? I guess they can care less. There are also people who may not be able to go through the online process for whatever reason. Very disappointing.

There's something about this place! Portions go crazy. Potato's the way I like it - mini, crispy, and tons of it. Crab cake Benedict does all the right things - medium yolk, the right size of crab cake that's crispy enough, coo biscuits, and plenty of salad with that light seasoning to make you feel better about cleaning your plate 😁

My friend highly recommended this brunch spot, so he brought me here to eat!

Today, we ordered three dishes:
Eggs Benedict, omelette, and a dessert.
The portions were generous, and everything was incredibly delicious.😋

Unfortunately,
I requested one coffee with oat milk and the other with regular milk,
but they mixed it up.
However, the service was excellent,
so we didn't bother asking the staff to change it.

Definitely a place I'll come back to next time! 💕💕👍🏼

You have to know that you order at the counter. You are given a number. My sister and I ordered separately. Glitch is to check your receipt. My meal was not charged, just the drinks. In the end, the mistake was ok. I ended up sharing my sister's meal. Plus, we had orders the crepe. The omelet was very good. The veggies were fresh and tasty. The side of potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft inside. Service was attentive, including the miscommunication with my order. The portions are large and very sharable. The crepe for both of us was a lil too much of filling and sweetness. I'd love to come back and try my original order of Norwegian Benedict.

Came on Sunday at about 930am. It was pretty full, but we were a party of 3 so were able to squeeze in a table with other people. You order at the counter, and they bring your food to your table. Ordered the croissant avocado and ham sandwich, daughter got french toast, and wife got berries farm crepe. All came out fast and was pretty delicious. The only real con was that it was no traditional server, so it was hard to get help, for instance, silverware. Clean bathroom and only parking is on First Street.

First time here dining alone and I had the French toast and an horchata latte. I asked for light on the sweetener on the latte and it was still too sweet for my taste. Not their fault probably I just don't like sweet drinks but horchata latte sounded good so I wanted to try it. The French toast are fried and I didn't know that. They weren't that good and I ended up getting a stomachache after eating them. I don't know they kind of smelled funny like if they fried it in old oil or something. The place is cute. The decor is nice and the ambiance is chill and casual. I've only tried the French toast so I can't say much but from what I've tried I wasn't too impressed but I'd be willing to try something else.

A small bit warm brunch restaurant. I love their kimchi spam omelette so so much. The sauce is a little bit spicy and sweet, plus the kimchi flavor is perfect match. Also their fries sides are so crispy and delicious. The dishes are all big and under $20. Though it needs to wait about 30minutes. But it’s worth the it. The space here is a little bit crowded. But service is great and friendly. Recommended!

I want this to be my go to spot for a eggs benedict, but the mixed greens they are using for their salad is off putting. Been searching around for a brunch place in the area that is more American as there are plenty of Asian options, but i also don't want to settle for ihop or denny's (no offense, i love them but there's just a time and place for them you know).

the place is super cute, and i love that there is some unique options that have asian and American fusion breakfast, the food portions are huge for its price, and they are all super duper delicious.

There is parking lot generally around the area or street parking. It is usually not too busy, and the staffs are super friendly.

You pay first but then the waiters come out with your food and will continue to come for the refill coffee
I would come back again!

Really good breakfast place with unique options and exceptional quality. Order at the counter right when you enter (I recommend looking over the menu before arriving, there are a lot of interesting choices), then take a number to your table. The ube-stuffed, deep fried french toast is out of this world! The crab cake benedict is filling and delicious, with sizable crab cakes and the unique addition of coleslaw, which adds a contrasting point to the unctuous eggs, hollandaise, and crab. Give them a try!

I've been a fervent lover of egg dishes, so Popping Yolk Cafe has been on my radar for quite some time. Finally, this weekend presented the perfect opportunity to indulge in the culinary delights I had been eagerly anticipating! This charming cafe not only boasts a cozy interior but also offers an inviting outdoor space that complements the fantastic Southern California weather perfectly.

The Norwegian Benedict, with its smoked salmon and perfectly poached eggs, was a symphony of flavors that delighted my taste buds. The Avocado Benedict, a refreshing twist on the traditional blending creamy avocado with the richness of the hollandaise sauce. To accompany my meal, I decided to go for something unique and ordered the special Egg Coffee.

The service in this Cafe was horrible, the employees made me wait for over two hours even though they said the waiting time was one hour. After a long waiting time, I barely had enough time to eat before the Cafe closed. The food was completely overpriced, as well. I ordered smoked salmon with croissant and potatoes in the side. The salmon was small and the sides mostly filled up the plate.

1/5 stars! Not worth your time or money.

Popping Yolk Cafe in Alhambra offers a delightful dining experience with its prime location in the heart of the city. The cafe's strategic placement in the main section of Alhambra makes it easily accessible. A free parking lot is within walking distance. One notable aspect is the generous portion sizes, ensuring that patrons get value for their money. During a Sunday brunch visit, the wait time was reasonable, approximately 20 minutes, which added to the overall positive experience. Overall good brunch food.

1st time here. We ordered the toffee banana French toast, the classic eggs Benny, fresh squeezed orange juice (I think), and the Egg Coffee.
French toast was amazing. Perfect amount of sweet and crispy/nice crunchy on the outside, soft and tasty inside!
Benny was delicious with both Canadian bacon along with classic bacon! Egg was poached perfectly, and the sauce was on point. The potatoes were a bit salty but that is how I like them so I was ok with it... but if you are sensitive to salt (high blood pressure) then I would ask them to go easy.
The beverages were both amazing too!
Will definitely go again!

I was wondering why the prices were high until I saw the portion sizes. Not only is there a plethora of eggs Benedict, but as someone that is a bit of an eggs Benny snob, I was so impressed by the different flavor profiles. Very tasty and they do not skimp on portions. The strawberry cheesecake crepe tasted like dessert rather than breakfast, but highly recommend if you are looking to finish off the meal.with something sweet.

The food is decent but not extraordinary. I'm from NYC area so this place pales in comparison with the myriad of creative and delicious breakfast and brunch venues in the big apple. Service is where the negatives comes in. The seating is first come first serve, so after we ordered the front desk staff told us that we could sit anywhere we want. There were high tops which would be uncomfortable for me in high heels and regular tables and chairs. We waited for a table to be cleared and set up for us and got seated. Soon after we sat down we were told to pick another seating because the staff wanted to accommodate a larger party size and needed our table. By this time there were only high tops left and they were all wobbly. We asked the front desk staff for help and let him know that we're are willing to wait for the next table seating. Front desk staff gave us the option to cancel our order or to wait in line again (over 45 min wait) and start all over and maybe a table will open up. I told him that it was unfair to make us give up our table for another party without helping us finding another acceptable seating. He pretty much ignored us, his response was irresponsible, insensitive, and rude.

I went back to my table and told the wait staff that we are staying and the larger party can wait their turn for a table just as we waited for ours. I saw a couple of wait staff in the back huddled to figure out how to accommodate the larger party and solved the issue. The front desk staff never apologized or acknowledged the problem, an example of terrible customer service. The back wait staff basically saved his butt.

Though I'm grateful that the back wait staff accommodated us and didn't make us leave our table again, it was an unpleasant experience and I will not go back there again when there are so many other choices with better customer service. Tasty food is great, but service quality is important especially we are all paying a premium thanks to inflation across the board post pandemic. I did leave extra tips for the wait staff upon leaving.

In Summary: Their menu is primarily Egg's Benedict and a bit pricey ($15-$19 per plate), but their French toast is delicious and you can order a half portion. They also have lots of sweet beverage options to try!

Popping Yolk currently has 3 locations, I went to the Pasadena location which ts yellow on the exterior so you can't miss it! They are BEST known for their unique Egg's Benedict options ($15-$19), like their Pull BBQ Pork Benedict, Nashville Hot Chicken Benedict, and Fish Fillet Benedict.

The entire menu/restaurant is centered around Brunch. Their slogan is even "Let there be Brunch!" Since I'm not normally a fan of eggs benedict, I tried the Crunch French Toast instead. Which includes Deep-Fried Toast, Mixed Berries, Maple Syrup, Condensed Milk. It's a delightful breakfast sharable with a mixture of the crunch texture, fresh fruit and sweet add-ons its a perfect balance. They offer a full an half-order, the half order comes with 3 pieces which I think is more than enough for 2-3 people to share as an appetizer. I also ordered the Strawberry Bellini, which in true fashion was a sweet drink, but easy to drink. Nice alternative to a traditional Bellini. However, they over Lychee Wite Sangria and Red Sangria by the glass or a Pitcher ($35) to share! Considering that each glass is usually $10, that is a good deal.

Checked out Popping Yolk recently after seeing the gorgeous plates on social media. If you're looking for a trendy brunch spot with a great atmosphere, this is the place for you. How it works is that you sign up for the wait-list (which wasn't very bad on a Monday) and when it's your party's turn, you order at the counter.

We visited on Mother’s Day, so I recognize that the experience we had might not be applicable to other weekends. Nevertheless, the service and their system need work.

The system: when you arrive, you have to check in on an iPad and add your name to the waitlist. Once your group is called, then you are invited to line up at the counter to order. After you order, then you can look for a table for your group. The part where you get on a waitlist so you can be allowed to then get in another line to order feels inefficient.

The service: when we finally got to the counter, I asked for 2 coffees and was immediately told that they ran out of coffee. I was shocked but instead ordered lattes since there was no coffee by 10am. We later found out that there WAS coffee. Not sure why the cashier made it seem like they were out of coffee for the day instead of saying that we would need to wait a few minutes until they brewed more coffee. We also waited a very long time for our food and although there were 4 of us, they brought out a single plate at about the 30 minute mark and the other 3 plates at the 45 minute mark. Every time we asked for an update their response was “the kitchen is backed up,” despite the fact that other people who arrived later got their food before we did.

The food: we ordered a variety of eggs benedict dishes and all of them were delicious. The horchata latte was also very good. The portions are large and filling.

My girlfriend got the Ube French Toast, which was a bit of a letdown because we couldn’t really taste the ube, I could only taste the deep-fried toast. If you have a low tolerance for oily foods, I’d recommend skipping it.

I would definitely come back to try some of their other dishes. You have to order up front before being seated. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Make sure to get on the yelp waitlist on days you expect them to be busy. There’s street parking everywhere.

Time to spill the beans on Popping Yolk Cafe! 😄 We grubbed on their Norwegian Benedict and Ube French Toast, and here's the scoop:

First things first, the Norwegian Benedict ($19) was a total winner! 🏆 It was so dang good and HUGE. Seriously, you'll need backup to finish that bad boy. The salmon was pure perfection! 🐟💯

But hold up, let's talk about the Ube French Toast ($13.5). 😩 It was a major letdown. They straight up fried it to oblivion, and all I could taste was oil. No Ube flavor in sight! 😔 Not gonna lie, it was a total waste of dough. Skip it like you're skipping leg day at the gym, trust me.

Oh, and brace yourself for the waiting game. 😅 Getting a table wasn't too bad, even on a weekend, but once we sat our butts down, we twiddled our thumbs for a good 30 minutes before food magically appeared.

But gotta give props where they're due. The atmosphere and vibes were on fleek! ✨🎉 The place had a chill, cozy feel that's perfect for catching up with friends or just enjoying a laid-back meal.

All in all, Popping Yolk Cafe had its ups and downs. Norwegian Benedict rocked my world, but the Ube French Toast left me feeling like 😒. Service could use a turbo boost, but the ambiance totally saved the day. Give it a shot if you're hunting for a bomb breakfast joint. Just don't waste your cash on that sad Ube French Toast, and explore other drool-worthy options on the menu. 🍳🍞

Food was really good. However, Just didn’t sit well with my stomach. I’m not sure what it was it but it gave me food poisoning. Shame this place didn’t work out but I still recommend , only if you don’t have a sensitive stomach .

Would definitely recommend! A great place to grab a bite if you’re in the area and are in the mood for breakfast/brunch! Service was quick and friendly. The only thing I didn’t like were the sausages, though my request to have them cooked longer was honored, they still weren’t my cup of tea(they boil them to cook) other then that my French toast was really good (had the toffee banana which to my pleasant surprised wasn’t overtly sweet) as was the classic breakfast that I got that came with home fries eggs sausage and salad (which the dressing used on the salad was good also) def check this place out if you have there chance

I came here with my best friend for the first time to try their brunch menu. I had a egg and bacon sandwich and she had Nashville hot chicken Benedict on hot chicken. They were both really good but the chicken was a bit dry. We also ordered a strawberry cheesecake crepe and we did not like it. It had some type of cereal like Frosted Flakes and that tasted weird. The crepe was a big no no. Their horchata latte was really delicious. Other than that, I would come again to try other dishes.

Would have been 5 stars because we were loving the service the moment you are taking your seat waiter is already there with you at the same time with drinks ready, food is followed right away but they seemed to have forgotten one of our dishes people who arrived way after were getting their food and that's how we knew we were forgotten. Aside from that we loved the food

The food here is delicious but don’t come here expecting great service. The let down started when the cashier accused our party of not showing up on time after being texted, despite us having been standing outside for 10 minutes waiting for the party in front of us to clear and never having actually received a text. The restaurant was also short staffed which is more a management issue. But, servers never came back around to check on us for coffee or anything else. Basically had to hunt them down for anything. Sad to say I probably wouldn’t bring guests there again, despite us enjoying the actual food.

The Popping Yolk is a routine for us when we visit the area. The food is absolutely incredible! Large filling portions, fresh squeeze OJ and a unique menu. Definitely try the toffee French toast.
It's a busy place and seating might not be as private, but they make it work. There is a table for large groups and counter seating.
I would definitely ask to have your food arrive at the same time as your guests as they periodically get the timing off.
The Popping Yolk is one of our favorite breakfast stops during our monthly visit.
I did see mimosa option if that's a brunch option you seek.
Definitely get some of the fresh Orange Juice. It's fabulous!

There is plenty of seating, water was brought to us right away, and there are lots of cute decorations making it a pleasant environment.

We ordered sweet potato fries (pretty good but not as flavorful as other places) and the french toast (really good and i like the crunchy bits)!!

I would come back, lots more to try!

My friend treated me so I can’t comment on price.

My second visit a few weeks ago and I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to get my third in.

There are plenty of seats but this place is really popular so the bar it is which is not so terrible. The staff really hustle and make sure that the customers are happy and well served. The presentation of the food is appetizing and sometimes rim to rim filled with food depending on what you ordered. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Omelette and the food was falling of the plate, which I loved. Every bite of the mushroom and spinach omelet was complimented with the savory goodness of smoked salmon. Yum!

Coffee is always bold and tasty, too.

On this visit I had made an error when ordering and the staff generously fixed my mistake. I really have to mention this because in this current time of maddening events, there are still places with good human beings such as Popping Yolk Cafe in Alhambra.

Fantastic egg Benedict! The yolks are running and the hollandaise sauce adds the perfect flavor to the egg. I’m usually not a Cole slaw person, but I have to say, in this case the Cole slaw adds the perfect freshness. A must try! My only complain is, too many potatoes! I couldn’t finish them all 😂

Food is decent, but their service and process of waiting for a table is ridiculous. Gone through their process of waiting for a table, receives a notice that our table is ready. But upon waiting in line for 15+ mins to the counter, we were told that we will have to wait an additional 15-20 mins for a table because it took us too long to get to the counter. This system simply does not work, it is not worth it for the wait and this level of servitude.

Went on 9/17/22 and it was insanely packed. We waited more than 1 hr to be seated. Once seated the food did arrive promptly. I ordered a California omlete and it was undercooked. We could see runny yolk on the inside of the omelet, it was NOT flavourful. The potatoes also didn't even have atleast salt. The only thing I liked was the toffee waffle w/ vanilla ice cream. Maybe only the sweets are good. And talk about OVER PRICED. Won't be going back. 👎

The food wasn’t bad. The hot chocolate was well presented but unfortunately I’ve had better. The Belgian waffles with ice cream were quite delicious! And the Nashville chicken with Benedict Arnold was also!

The Service: Order at the counter. Super efficient & attentive service!

The Food:

House French Toast - deep fried toast with fresh mixed berries. A little different than the regular French toast because they are deep fried. Love the texture, crunchy outside and soft toast inside.

Norwegian Benedict - two poached eggs, smoke salmon, English muffins and lots lots of fresh salad. The eggs are prepared perfectly. Fresh ingredients that's make it so yummy!

Mozzarella sticks OMG! So cheesy!! The batter is not too thick so every bite is full of yummy cheese.

Hawaiian Burger. The plating/visual is nice. I love the buns toasted on the grill. The meat is cooked perfectly. It goes so well with the pineapple and the sweet glaze on the buns. I had onion rings on the side. Super crispy!!!

The Parking: On Second Street, there are two city parking lots (free, 2 hours)

I wish Google would add a filter for overpriced, glorified food court restaurants. At least the authentic food court restaurants give you your order at the same time so as a family you can eat together. I hate watching one family member eat their breakfast while the rest of us wait.

This is one of those places you try out hoping for a good Sunday breakfast and end up leaving the place wishing you made your breakfast at home. If you want a better breakfast experience go somewhere else or make it yourself.

Food was quite good. My wife and I REALLY like the variety in the menu options, and so much of it is unique. 1 really BIG problem... the location needs to have an AC or something. Even a few fans would be helpful. It was OVER 90° today, so just having the doors open does NOT allow for good airflow (especially with the amount of people in the building). When a person feels as if they are overheating, it impedes them from enjoying the meal. I'm not sure who decided to use Edison bulbs for the lighting, but it should be made clear to them that Edison bulbs give off quite a bit of heat, as well as the spotlights attached to tracks overhead. Add the fact that the kitchen is open to the dining area, it makes for an extremely heated atmosphere. Stop being cheap, and add an AC or some fans, before you people start having medical emergencies in your restaurant.
