Pretty good takeout option if you’re craving Indian food in the area. The samosas are crispy on the outside and soft/boldly flavored on the inside. Their homemade mango lassi is fantastic, rich yogurt base with a fruity blend. Naan is fluffy and fresh, and the curry is well flavored with tender meat. Curry doesn’t include rice like most places I’ve found nearby, and the prices of each item does add up—it’s not a cheap meal especially if you’re dining in for dinner. But overall would recommend and come back.

Great food, great ambience and great service. We ordered tandoori and naan, both were delicious and fresh. Everything is made in the house which is awesome. The mango lassi was pretty good and they were able to make it vegan for us! The eggplant dish was pretty tasty and well seasoned and the vegetable samosas had a great presentation and tasted pretty good. Overall an amazing experience with super nice and friendly servers. Nice lunch special, no more buffet though. :):

I've been coming to Mahan since 2012. I've even celebrated several birthdays and milestones here. The food is always great and it has great vegan options for vegan friends and family members.

Ordered the Tikka Masala Mughlai as picture looked great.

The reality was I got off cuts of thigh heavy in cartilage and bone. I was anticipating bone, but the way they prepared this dish made it very difficult to separate so eating was a risk and not very fun, feel a little shorted honestly only had a couple of bites of meat and the rest was bone and cartilage.

Got takeout — very disappointed with the food. I’ve never posted a Google review. My disappointment in this food specifically motivated me to post this.

1) Ordering through Google makes adding potatoes required, so both dishes had potatoes.

2) Palak paneer was unseasoned. It seems like they added everything except salt.

3) Garlic naan was flat, dry, and had no garlic or any other seasoning.

I go here for the buffet on Fridays and Saturdays it's really super good and a really good deal. The only thing is I would just tell the owners not to play TV shows kind of in the background because when you're watching TV in the back room it ruins a little bit of the Ambiance of the restaurant but overall this is such good food and such a good deal. The food is absolutely outstanding and the waiters here the young guys are super super sweet and nice

Went for Friday lunch, had the Buffett. The food was delicious and fresh not super spicy or oily. The garlic naan was great. The staff was very attentive. Restaurant and restroom were very clean and well kept.

Weekend lunch buffet was very good. 5 vegetarian options (4 of them vegan). The Aloo Vindaloo, Chana Masala. Dal Tarka, and Saag were especially good. The Vegan Thali is very tasty!

I ordered food for pickup and had a bad experience. Ordered garlic naan but they gave regular naan with hair in one naan. Bad hygiene and food taste was average. Chicken was hard and was not fresh aswell.

Naan bread is always fresh made! Tika masala rocks! The paneer is tasty. Ask for the Lunch Box to go only special! They serve water in metal cups which keeps cold.

I called the restaurant at 9:10pm requesting for a table reservation… and they informed me about 9:45pm they take last order and I can walk in before that.
I reached there exactly at 9:30 and they turn me off saying they closed. The owner/ manager was so rude and arrogant. He was busy surfing his phone. Told him that we drove 40’mins to reach there and requested him to accommodate us , he didn’t even look at us and asked us to leave and no apologies.
Extremely Dingy ambience … Then one of my friends who had visited the restaurant, told me about how average and mediocre the food here is. So guess everything Happened for good.

Mahan on Main has amazing food. If you have the time or chance to try their Sunday brunch, alcoholic drinks are included. They have traditional Indian food if you don't want to try their brunch. I love their vindaloo dish and you can ask for less spicy if you cannot take the heat.

Great food! The ownership has changed since they were at the old location near Garfield, however, the food is still really good and highly recommended. The service is great, nice and friendly. Just today, the main guy came running out a block-and-a-half after me to give me back the credit card I'd left behind!

UPDATE Aug 2023: Food is still great. Vegetable Samosas are hard to beat. Chicken Tikka Masala is amazing. One note, if you want the dinner experience, maybe don't show during lunch because you will likely be steered to more of a buffet experience. Call ahead to be sure!

I feel bad since the service was excellent but I have to call out the overpowering use of fennel/cumin in the plain rice and plain naan. Maybe it’s a chef choice and they seem popular enough with the locals but is it too much to ask to have plain rice/naan? The tikka masala was subpar since the meat was super tough and tasted like days-old tandoori chicken. I liked the curry flavor but the texture ruined it for me, which explains the 1 star review. To end on a positive note, if I was desperately craving Indian food, a to-go order wouldn’t be so bad with homemade rice.

Food is good! The only issue and reason why I am giving them 4 ⭐ is because I ordered fried okra and it was really salty, too salty to even eat. I mentioned it to the guy that was serving us but he said, "that's how it comes". I am guessing it comes pre-made it something I don't know. He didn't offer to re make it.

We haven't had Indian buffet in years and don't feel the need to get out again for a few more years. The food was fine, since dishes were pretty good while others had their own spin to them. Selection was mediocre and the gulab jamon were refrigerated (not good). Most trays were very low on food.
You get a drink invoiced in the weekend champagne brunch (champagne, lassi, etc.)

Almost no spices used. Tastes like watered down Indian food. If you go out into the sticks in India they might not use heavy cream like we are used to, but at least they are full of spices. The chicken makhani (butter chicken) looked like chicken tikka masala but tasted like tomato bisque. Yes, it tasted as if they put a bottle of tomato bisque and mixed it with chicken.

Ten dollars for a buffet is quite cheap though, so if you just want to fill up on something that isn't complete junk food this would be a good spot. The staff was nice and the interior was good enough. My main concern is taste, however, so I will not be coming back.

If you have lunch there they will serve your in-dining food in to-go containers. Very little food. They no longer have a buffet for lunch. Get what you need from servers before they walk away because they will never come back except to give you your bill. Actually..I had to wave down

Friendly, welcoming, relaxing, clean and spacious.
Am not generally familiar with Indian cuisine, but the menu was well designed and easy to understand, and the food delicious (had a lightbulb moment when I realized if one food tastes plain and the other flavorful, it's because you're supposed to MIX them to taste - brilliant right)

Service is awesome but somewhere kitchen department need some more training on food safety & a special practice on standard recipe. Taste is not up-to mark. Though Quality of food is good.
Should know the difference between spice level. Incidence happens with Order of paneer tikka spicy that doesn’t mean kill someone that was way over spice but happily replaced by management. Owner was friendly.

Great food and it seems like a nice family run business.

But... lately it seems they have been skimping on the chutney and raita. Maybe due to the inflation we are experiencing today in 2022.

Unfortunately, the raita seems watered down. I've had to ask for more chutney because they only give you one small container with tamarind and one for the green, even after spending over $120 on different dishes.

That is all. If you go, you'll enjoy it. But for me, I need ma chutney and raita.

Wow! Every single dish I had was so tasty. I had the opportunity to taste the chicken Tikka masala, palak paneer, haleem, samosas and naan. Lunch is buffet, but you can get a la carte as well.

Ordered half chicken tandoori, lamb vindaloo, and garlic naan. Tandoori took a while (25min?) but expected. Though I noticed the buffet had chicken tandoori as well. It was pretty dry and a bit bland? Lamb vindaloo portion wise was okay. Medium spicy has a bit of a kick. Flavour was strong. Garlic naan was okay as well. Garlic flavour not really strong. Can tell it sat around a little bit to come together with the tandoori.

Girlfriend ended up buying some more chicken tandoori at another restaurant right afterwards so take that how you will.

ordered food to go! we waited like 10min when we got there but that's fine, we were early. the owner brought us water while we were waiting and all the employees were super nice. it smells amazing in there. we aren't dining in right now due to COVID, but in the future we'd like to come in and sit down for dinner. we ordered chicken tikka masala, chicken biryani, plain naan, and laccha paratha, and they were all amazing. my one issue is that I thought the tikka masala would come with rice and it didn't... that was pretty disappointing for the price I paid to get home and have to make my own rice, which wasn't basmati so it wasn't as good. I don't know if I'm ordering things wrong or something, I'm just used to this sort of thing coming with rice. it was great food and an amazing pickup experience though so 5 stars, recommend!!

The food was decent to earn a star.
However the service puts this place down.

I waited 20 minutes just to have someone walk up to me and ask what I wanted to order. The food took another 35+ minutes

The servers had ignored my table multiple times trying to flag them down.

The butter chicken was good can't lie but the lamb shawarma was dry even coming out of the hot plate the lamb was luke warm pretty weird for food I waiting for 35+ minutes.

I absolutely love Mahan, it's so nice to have a restaurant in Alhambra that offers so many amazing vegetarian dishes.

The vegetable jalfrezi is my go to while my husband usually does the chicken vindaloo - but you really can't go wrong with anything here!

The owner or the hotel manager was really nice and greeted us really well. The food tasted pleasingly well. The gravy of Shahi paneer and butter chicken were almost same and could have been a little more indian taste like but overall the service was really good. We also had ordered indian tea but it did not arrive until the end of dinner so the cashier crossed it off from our check.. Overall good taste and great ambience

I loved the chicken tandoori and the pilaf rice as well as the garlic nan I know things are sold separately but the sizes are super reasonable and fairly priced for the portions. I am totally going to eat from here again ! It was my first time having Indian food (not for my husband) but he thoroughly enjoyed it as well. I will also mention that I ordered through doordash so all and all very lovely 😊

I had ordered from them once and the food was great. The second time I went to their restaurant to have dinner. The food was good, but the lady greeted us very rudely. She was taking an order for a table, which I understood, but when we walked in, she looked at us and pointed to the menus and said “take menus from there and take a table.” The tone was extremely unfriendly. We didn’t appreciate it at all.

Working late at the hospital tonight, I had a craving for some Indian Food. Did a quick internet search and stumbled upon Mahan (Alhambra). Scanned the online menu quickly and saw they had one of my favorite dishes Chicken Makhani (Butter Chicken). I ordered and picked up in 25 minutes. So Good! So Delicious! The food was awesome!!! My friend and I were surprised that the dishes only included the protein. No rice, or salad or naan. All had to be ordered separately. We added the rice (absolutely bland) and garlic naan. The young lady who brought the food suggested we add a curry and I am glad we did because that added flavor to everything else. However, after we got our food, we didn't see anyone for at least an hour. Not particularly busy. The lady was at the counter too. We had to call her for more water and the check. I had the mixed grill and I couldn't really tell one flavor from another. The chicken was a tiny bit dry.

If you looking for delicious Indian food around Alhambra, Pasadena then Mahaan would be your favorite destination like me. They have the best food, very friendly staff members, consistently excellent atmosphere. They charge reasonable rates and the food quality is fantastic. Average food. Chicken Tikka was burnt and over cooked to the point of being inedible. Chicken Biryani was very basic and the rice was a bit undercooked. The young man working there is why I gave the stars as I did as he was very nice and courteous.

Food is always of good quality my tiny bit of issue with this restaurant is the quantity of curry/vegetables it's very less. Just enough for 1 person. If that is fixed then 5-Star for sure. Owners are nice and friendly. In good old days (2019 lol...) was able to enjoy the ambiance and occasional chat with owners while dining

Found this place while craving Indian in the area one day, and I’ve been driving over from Burbank ever since when I’m in the mood. Super kind staff, out of this world flavor. I’m addicted!

Was looking for some late night food around and came across this establishment. Was welcomed well despite it being the closing hours and expected staff to be tired and all worked up for the day. I was sat down and shown through the menu items. Ordered the butter chicken (I believe they have a different name for it), some naan bread and rice. Everything was cooked fresh and was piping hot when I got back to my hotel. Cleanliness and covid 19 protocol guidelines was well we'll observed. Food may be a little bit on the pricey end but you'll be taken care of when it comes to portion size. I highly recommend this place for those fancying and authentic Indian meal!

We ordered the vegan thali for dinner using Google’s ordering platform. Very smooth experience, and the food was ready right when I went to pick it up.

I plated it at home before eating. My husband and I were able to share the vegan thali and loved the complex flavors and comfort of the curries.

Giving it a 4 stars because it is pretty pricey. I wouldn’t normally come here as the Indian restaurant in Rosemead is more affordable and has the no garlic no onion vegan option. I think $20 for a thali may be worth it for someone who doesn’t mind paying more. We ordered from here because it’s close to home but I don’t mind driving farther to save a bit of dough.

Outdoor dining available. Not buffet style anymore thanks to Covid. Drinks are bottled water or soda can.

I love this place !!!!! One of the only Indian Resturants who will make it ultra spicy for my husband. The family who owns it is so sweet and great too!!!!!

Today was the first time I tried Mahan in Alhambra. The food was amazing and staff was very friendly. A hidden gem in Alhambra. I’m going to add this to my list of local favorites!

The food at Mahan is always very consistent. I usually order Chicken Tikka Masala with Basamati rice and vegetable samosas. I'm never disappointed.

This spot is a solid 3.5, which isn't an option here, but it's a solid choice if you are looking for an all you can eat, Indian lunch buffet. The service is always good and polite. I would say there are several better options in Pasadena, but this one is conveniently located in Alhambra on Main Street.

Best indian we've had. The goat curry and tandoori chicken are to die for. Go for lunch buffet so you can try everything. Friendly manager and staff, great setting and environment.
