Ruben's Mariscos and Mexican Grill

Went here with friends on a referral that the food was really good. I ordered a combination plate with chile relleno and cheese enchilada. Came with a salad but the size was different than my friends who also ordered a combo. When we asked the waitress, she said it was supposed to be the smaller one? My plate was good but pretty pricey for the amount of food. Guacamole was labeled as "market price", $9.99. Ordered a chile colorado burrito for my husband at $15 which he said was too pricey for the taste. Friends ordered the tacos, taquitos, fajitas and shrimp enchiladas, which were decent. Service was great which was a plus! The waitresses catered to my friends 3 year old daughter, which was nice. Restaurant had a family friend environment. Worth a try, but not sure we'll go back. Jury is still out.

Our waitress said she would be return to take our order after placing the menus down. So we waited and we waited. Another couple sat down behind us, had their drink orders taken, received their drinks. And we were still waiting. Waitress came back took their order, ran to the the bar area to place the order, while we waited. She then attended to another table, while we again waited. Finally after waving her down while attending to the other table she Finally came to take our order.

Ruben's your food is delicious, but please train your staff. This is not the first time we have had this issue with long waits or being overlooked and by the other comments others have had same experiences. Today is Thursday November 14th, 2024. At 4:30pm.

This is our first time attending Rubens, we came in and it happened to be taco Tuesday, our server Jenacce was absolutely the best, she helped us with all our questions and was very attentive through our whole time there. As a long time fan of the food at this place, I was disappointed today to be lied to by 2 employees about menu items and prices.

Ordered super nachos after a long hiatus since my last visit. When they were under the old name.

Prices went up significantly, an order of super nachos is now $13. A bit steep. When I asked why such an increase, the waiter told me "they are so much bigger than before". As they came out onto the counter in my order to go. They are not, same size as previous, I immediately asked another female employee behind the counter the same question. She hadn't heard my last answer from him. She told me they were using "higher quality meats now. Much, much better meats".

It's not, it's still the same, that's not a bad thing:
I have been a regular since before this place changed into the name it had *before* it was Ruben's. A patron since 2004. The food has been consistently good since then, and still is.

But paying an extra $10 for 2 orders of to-go nachos, to be lied to by employees. No thanks.

First time eating here. Everything tasted good and nothing was chewy or rubbery (which is often the case with Calamari). Prices where okay, though I think the sampler Platter was a little over priced for the amount I got. Overall, we would defiantly go back.

Do not order Carne asada here since the pandemic 2 years ago they have not been able to meet the demand for it and instead of taking it off the menu they instead give you other cuts of beef, lots and lots of beans and etc. All the while charging Carne asada prices. I will not return, I thought it may have improved since it's been 2 years but nope ! And I just had to write a review this time

This is our first time attending Rubens, we came in and it happened to be taco Tuesday, our server Jenacce was absolutely the best, she helped us with all our questions and was very attentive through our whole time there. A few months ago I quit coming to Rubens because they raised their prices and hardly any chicken on the soft tacos. Before plenty of chicken and really good. I went around 5:30 to try it again and yes they failed again. This is my second review since the last time I ate here. I don’t know how it could be a four and a half star now. Taco Tuesday used to be packed when I used to eat here. Only two booths were being used at 5:30 not even the regular girls working either. Again hardly any chicken in my tacos more onion than anything. I knew Rubens would lose business after raising prices and less food. I threw my second taco in the trash. Great job owner of Rubens. Today is July/21/24 around 6:00 I started just getting taquitos because way back there prices went up and less food. I ordered only taquitos with guacamole on the side and you get these very small cups that are only enough for two taquitos. They charge for extra guacamole not much more but it’s just the principle of this situation. The owner of this Rubens is a very cheap person. I did quit coming here a long time ago but my wife likes the taquitos. Well have to find a restaurant that the owner isn’t so cheap and at least give you enough guacamole for five taquitos. Rubens went to crap a long time ago and the waitresses are no longer there that worked here ever since the prices went up. They either quit or got laid off. Great job to the owners cheap cheap cheap. lol oh ya canceled my order and it’s definitely not as crowded as it used to be. Well today is September/1/24 went in for taquitos to go for pick up. Maybe enough guacamole for two taquitos that come with it yes I did buy extra guacamole got home saw how much guacamole there was had to go back and get more guacamole. Feel sorry for the workers because at this price 11.31 with a 3.00 dollar tip tip’s will stop and probably quit eating here. This owner is a cheap cheap owner. Hope he makes money on taco Tuesday lol. Pretty sad when I have to go back and get more guacamole for my taquitos after getting home and this is after buying extra guacamole lol. Next time I’ll check it before I give them money. Last week was okay. I did notice that the cook wasn’t to happy when I came back for more guacamole. ATTITUDE LOL.

I went with family. The place is clean and chill. The server was fantastic. I got the taco salad, which was delicious. My parents ordered the ceviche and the campechana, and the ceviche was good, but the campechana had more pico de gallo than shrimp.

Me and my lady had eaten here for years and today they put moldy cheese on my food. I understand mistakes happen sometimes but they wouldn't even give me a refund for the burrito and taco the cheese was on!.

This was the third time getting dinner at Rubens and my wife and I are hooked. First visit we had the shrimp tacos. OMG delicious, then we tried their 7seas stew that we ordered over the phone for take out.. and it was amazing. This time we shared the Molcajete de Mariscos and a dozen oysters, and now Reubens is our place to go for Mariscos. The place has a nice family run vibe. So if your pescatarian or just love seafood, you gotta try Reubens.

This is by far the best Mexican restaurant in the high desert, they actually topped the restaurants just down the hill. My only complaint is the fish. For a restaurant with food this good should never serve tilapia (a very bad for you fish) or swai (2nd worse fish for humans to consume). Those are bottom cheap fish for not so great restaurants. At least serve cod or snapper for the price. Other then that it is a wonderful restaurant.

I'd give this little spot a 4 3 out of 5. The waitstaff are very friendly and the food is pretty good. When we first tried it we were not expecting to like it but were pleasantly surprised.

This was my first time to Ruben's. I took my father, who loves good Mexican food and especially a good margarita. We had a couple because they are so good, and their seafood dishes are exquisite.

Been driving by for a few years decided to try it out and was not disappointed wet burrito was good along with the taquitos the asada and chicken had good flavor. Well not the best Mexican food I've ever had was better than most in the area. The waitresses were on top of it and very friendly even accommodating to children. Service was fast on a Saturday night food was out in a few minutes. We will be back and recommend to our friends and family

Ruben's is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the High Desert. They have many choices of types of meals on their menu, and I haven't had anything there yet that I didn't like. Their service is very attentive. When there recently, my wife ordered the fish tacos combo plate and said they were the best fish tacos she has ever had.

We have been coming here for the last years , food is always great. Although the last 2 times it’s taken a long time to get our food and they were not that busy at all. Last week my wife and I waited for probably between 45-60 minutes to get our order. This wait for your order is really frustrating and unacceptable especially when not very busy and when I say not busy I mean there were 3 tables being served when we went in. Because it’s been 2 times in a row within the last 2 weeks we have had to wait a long time to get our order, it may be time to find a New Mexican restaurant to frequent.

Friendly spot! It’s a traditional Mexican restaurant, but it worked for my vegetarian diet: they made a veggie and cheese enchilada. We stopped as they were close to closing and mopping up while on a road trip from LA, but the staff was super friendly and accommodating and let us eat at the bar. Great service.

My family and I went here yesterday to celebrate my birthday it was the first time visiting this restauarnt. let me just say we will definitely be back. Izzy was our server she was beyond great! Her and another server catered to our party (party of 15) in a timely matter they were patient and knowledgeable. food and drinks were delicious. we will be back. thank you Izzy for making our experience amazing!!!

We've ordered to go from this place a few times and the food has been pretty good. We decided to try to eat in one night. What a disaster. No one waited on us forever. When we did get service it was rude and unprofessional. They forgot drinks multiple times, assumed my order for me and surprisingly got it wrong. The food took forever (both times for me since they had to make it twice) and they made it way too spicy even though we had discussed that at length when ordering. A terrible experience. And this was with the manager! We MIGHT still order take out but you couldn't pay me to sit in there and eat again. If that's how their service always is I don't know how they stay in business.

They keep changing the meat and chips on the nachos and now they don't serve canned jalapenos on them. I've only had the nachos and fish tacos. The fish tacos are pretty good. The tortilla and dressing compliment the fish. I recommend the fish tacos.

The coffee was hot. I had chicken tacos, tasteless, dry meat tacos. Over priced. My husband had beef. Wanted to give the place another chance. Won't go back you can get better tacos off a truck, for half the price. Don't waste your money

Stopped by today for the shrimp cocktail. Weather was cold Esmerelda recommended the albongigas with a side of Spanish rice. Was the best albongigas I've ever had. Esmerelda was a wonderful waitress.

First time I came to this restaurant, and I been living here in the HD since 2007
I have to say the service was great, the servers are very attentive. Kudos to the Owners.

I am disappointed that the Oysters did not have ice but I will be back. The fish Tacos were good. Would like to try the rest of the seafood, as it looks and smells very good.
Not to mention the parking lot was full this says it all.

I ordered some food from Ruben's and it was delicious! I can't walk or drive so I had to use Door Dash, but I plan to go into the restaurant as soon as I'm able. The fresh guacamole was better than anywhere else! I had the taco salad as well and I had it with carne asada, it was delicious and everything was fresh. I have been wanting to try this place, and I'm glad I ordered from them. They are a bit pricey, but once you taste the food, it's worth it. Of course delivery is always a bit pricey, but it was worth it! Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Don't go here if you're vegetarian. I understand cross contamination happens and if you're that strict your should not eat out. But the whole veggie burrito smelled and tasted like bacon and ham. It was such a turn off. I'm sure there was meat in it. Plenty of other Mexican restaurants in the area. Go there instead

Waitress was extremely rude!! Food was mediocre food was overpriced for what it was I had to get up 3 different times to ask for lemons silverware and napkins I had to ask for silverware and she brought 2 sets of silverware when there were more then two people sitting in the table! Place was empty and waitress didn’t even come to the table to check on you very disappointed with this place my family and were looking for a good seafood place and went to the wrong place I would’ve rather spent my money on Taco Bell then go there!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

We had the oysters with ceviche on it and it was delicious the shrimp melted in your mouth I would go back there I would tell a friend I would go there twice in a day if I could.

Just a reminder People the service was on point. Water w/lime.
A sea salty trip down the beach, with your Mexican beer in a super mug 🍺🍻

Pretty darn good. Definitely worth going for the happy hour specials. Didn't have one of the micheladas, but hey looked SO good. Had the grilled and breaded fish tacos. Super big and filling. Carne asada fries were good also.

Came in for a pickup order and was told by a girl that the order had not been started yet so i waited 30 minutes in the lobby. I asked about the order twice and was told to wait. I sat there watching all of these people come in after me receive all of their food. My order was not much. After 40 minutes i walked up and asked about it because i was on my final straw only to be told by a guy that the order was not started. These girls or that cook need better training wasnt even greeted when i walked in like everyone else i was ignored. NEVER coming back here again! Rude women

Now I can understand when a restaurant is short staffed, but I counted 5 times a waitress passed our table empty handed heading back to the kitchen while we sat with our finished plates filling the table. Very slow to get things we asked for, reminded twice to get more salsa. Had to ask for silverware after they had brought out two of our meals.
Food. The shrimp were good, but the taco salad wet, and guacamole was canned/fake. Margaritas were meh.
Overall, not a place we'll be back to. Still looking for THE ONE.

We had 3 great girls waiting on us. They were sweet & professional evening one of the girls that was her first day she did great we were very pleased and the food was well was good too we thank you for the good time

Food was really good ,but service was bad , Waitress was rude ,I was waiting for bit To pay I had to get up and asked for our check, Our drinks we ordered (palomas )did not have any alcohol were very sour, Hopefully next time we come will give better service

Great service and good food though wish they had tossed in more shrimp with the steak. 5 pieces of shrimp sadly but next time I'll be sure they add more. On the whole worth going to. Had mine to go so few beers on the wait time and before I knew it I was out before I knew.

Food was good. Service was good. My only issue was we ordered for 4 people and it took 15 min from the 1st order till 4th order was delivered . We prefer to eat as a family
