Ah, maid cafés. That thing we've seen countless times in media such as anime. A staple that many fans of Japanese media would like to attend but either don't out of embarrassment or are waiting for the real thing in Japan itself. This is where Asayoru Maid Café comes into play. The location is in a well populated downtown area of Montery Park tucked in between an AMC and a Holiday Inn. I made reservations and was greeted by a wonderful maid named Sumi. Me and her did a greeting ritual, and she guided me to my seat. Another maid came and showed us the menu and how everything worked. I decided to get the $44 special, which includes soup or salad, an entree, and a drink along with a cheki (a photo with you and the maid of your choice). Got the omurice along with a special vanilla ice cream Calpico drink with a soup. The food is just okay. I didn't have high expectations, and you are buying more for the entertainment and experience. It was honestly better than I thought it was going to be. The café itself was very busy, and the service was a little slow, but it seemed like maybe someone called out or they weren't prepared for a huge crowd. My maid kept apologizing and being really sincere, so I didn't mind at all. Overall, for a person who thought wasn't going to like maid cafés, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and wouldn't mind coming back

Very amazing place. I learned about them when they had an event in Anime Expo Chibi and I went to that event, so I went here. The food was amazing while at the same time, I really love the cute decoration they do. I really love how they welcome you home in Japanese. It felt like I was in an anime world when they did that. I would totally visit again and again. For those planning on going here, I highly recommend the omurice for the main dish and the furi furi shaka shaka for the drink

The chicken curry was delicious. The alcoholic drink named health potion was amazing. The peach mocktail was good. The vanilla parfait was satisfying. Phenomenal experience with the maids. The energy and atmosphere they provided were great. The crowd participation was very nice to be a part of. Will want to do it again.

For those of you who have no idea what experience you get here, think of it as Disneyland character dining but with a completely different twist. That's an understatement, though - you get a whole lot more attention and engagement than what Disney provides you.

My experience here was very enjoyable - I came during an off-peak time (just myself) and was quickly seated. I absolutely recommend experiencing this at least once even if you're not into anime and manga or character dining. I will definitely be bringing my sister here before she goes off to college!

Update: I brought my sister here to an event (Guest Maid Phoebe) and she really loved it! She'd never been to a maid cafe and now she's wishing she could come more often (she's gone off to college on the other side of the country).

Food is mid. Drinks are good. Service was meh and by meh I mean we were only supposed to be there for 1.5 hours and ended up staying almost 3 due to the neglect of our party. By the second hour I felt like the joy had been sucked out of everything because of how long we had been there.

One of the maids served the wrong drink to one of the people in our party and then refused to accept it was a mistake on her behalf. Also.. they do not give change with cash. They only accept exact cash which is ridiculous for a cafe that charges pretty high prices for things that are "meh". Honestly I ended up paying extra just to leave (I didnt have exact cash so I just paid them in bills and let them keep whatever because they were taking forever to tally our bill). I would never come back here again. Experience was not something justified for a 200 bill for 3 people.

Incredible experience! And so much attention to details.
From the beginning, the maids greet you with a ring of a bell and a short verse in Japanese. There are lots of menu options that come with "maid magic". For the meal items my group got, that ranged from ketchup/chocolate syrup drawings on the food/ plates to using wands to help cool down a drink that has "sun energy". Every time you get a course, the maid has you do a short heart cutsey thing to "infuse" the food.

I got the Deluxe combo that comes with an entree, drink, dessert and Polaroid. On top of getting food, you can also pay to have a maid do a performance. If you want to go for the full maid cafe experience, the additional cost is definitely worth it! I got to watch 4 different performances. 3 of which where the maids did a cute dance choreography that lasted about 2 minutes. The 4th maid sang heavy metal and it was pretty unexpected but incredible!!

A very unique and cool new experience. I highly recommend trying it out! It is on the expensive side, but you really do get your money's worth!

Currently the only permanent maid cafe business in California, it's environments the maids and the cafe are cute, there is room for improvement for the food, I see potential of making and them adding more options, everything else is perfect and great, you could bring any age there as it's all welcoming and kind. The maids are great. This is the place to go if visiting LA.

Everything in the maid cafe was great but don't expect the rest of exp to work. The gaming, vr, karaoke, was not worth the money or the trip. Most didn't work and if it did it was hard to work. Go to the cafe but don't stay for the rest of the stuff in the building.

Thanks for the absolute blast of a time! This place is a great experience for large parties of any age!

Glad to ser a maid cafe in Arcadia, but it needs a lot of work. I believe the owner or manager have never went to a real maid cafe in Japan, or in other words, Asayoru Maid Cafe is the Panda Express take of an actual maid cafe in Japan.
The only difference between here and a regular restautant are some Japanese style decorations (which doesn't actually fit in the category of maid cafe), servers wearing costumes, and the maid magic to the food (this part is correct, fortunately).
There are no additional interactions between customers and cast members during the stay.

this restaurant was such a pleasant surprise! My friend and I heard of this place from the staff who had a booth at the 626 night market. I had been to a maid/kawaii restaurant before, awhile ago in Vegas. that place was not like this but it set my expectations, I suppose. Asayoru blew my expectations! It was so cute and adorable! The staff were super kind and adorable as well! (+ they said I was cute so that's really gotta mean something coming from them lol) So first thing they do when you come in is greet you with a pretty grand acknowledgement that you've came to visit them. In my opinion, their menu is very well put together! they have the combos in the front. Both my friend and I got the deluxe combo, it was super worth it. they have asterisks* next to the menu item where they add 'maid magic'. I ordered the kuma-san omurice, the froggy matcha partfait (secret menu item), a furi furi shaka shaka - mixed juice with a calpico base,  and in the combo included a chekki. The food was amazing and perfect portions, not too much. Our service was provided by Maid Sakurin. She was so sweet and attentive. She drew the cutest things on our plates and chekki. Another maid helped a bit too, I wish I would've remembered her name. (edit: her name was Hoshiko) She was great too and we got a photo with her. There is a lot of participation so you are immersed in the experience so to say and I say this because I could see some ppl could be embarrassed by this but it's so great. you shouldn't take life so seriously, this experience is in great fun. I would give this place 6 stars if I could! the maids are so great and we will definitely be back soon!

I had duty when we visited Yokosuka, Japan during my latest deployment, so I did not have the opportunity to go to a maid cafe. I stumbled upon Asayoru Maid Cafe one fateful night when my Airbnb was cancelled as I awaited my new resting place for the night...The following day I visited for lunch and was hosted by Maid Saiki, the most energetic waitress in the world! I met the illustrious Head Mai Sai who built this wonderland from our hearts and dreams! I also played a game and took a Cheki with the unbeatable Maid Sumi! No where else in the world will you find a place that writes your name in ketchup and entertains you every minute of the hour! Legoland is clearly for children, but Asayoru Cafe is the ultimate destination for all ages!

The closest thing to a Japanese maid cafe without being weird. To have a good time you need to lean in and have fun with the polaroids and magic spells and blessings. Is it silly? Definitely. Is it fun? Heck yes. Bring friends, buy merch, hang out and have a good time

I already wrote a review on Yelp, but since I had such an amazing experience, I have to write an additional review on Google - something I very rarely do.

I've come here twice, each with friends that were visiting me from Ohio. The service has always been amazing. I love the very friendly, upbeat atmosphere at Asayoru Maid Cafe. It reminds me of the maid cafes I went to in Hong Kong and Japan, but yet it has its own identity that's very lighthearted.

The first time I went on a Thursday, the second time I went on a Friday. Other than lead maid Sae, I had completely different maids on different experiences. All the maids have training in commonly used Japanese phrases at maid cafes. I like that the entrance also has a curtain similar to Japanese restaurants.

The team did a really good job emulating the maid cafe experience while also taking advantage of a greater space than often is available in packed cities like Tokyo. Since Asayoru has now been around for months, the maids are significantly more well organized and skilled than what one might expect at a pop up maid cafe at an anime convention.

Speaking of which - I haven't gone to many anime conventions since moving to California. Asayoru really made me miss anime conventions, and I've definitely been inspired to go to more cons in LA as a result of my experiences. Hope the maid cafe continues to thrive and do well! がんばれ!

Very cute interior and overall aesthetic!

You can play some games with the maids, take polaroid pictures, and get them to dance to a short song while you cheer for them (very cute)! Hit the tables with the glow sticks to activate them. Don't be like me and realize how it works after the song ends.

My girlfriend is now a Sakurin simp. Lol.

Food was OK. It all comes from the EXP bar, so it'll be hit or miss depending on your luck with the kitchen (ours was.....lukewarm at best). The maids add some cute touches to the food though which makes you kinda forget that the food is cold. The drinks and desserts are more unique than the food, which is better.

But hey, it's a cute and fun experience! Just don't be weird about it and it's a great time.
