Come and join us for a great experience at Sushi Tengoku! We have over 9 years experience with our sister restaurant Tsuri Sushi on Melrose. Quality, Service, and Great Experience is what we strive for!!!!
Quick Summary
Don’t let the pictures fool you. The food here was fantastic. Finally a solid Japanese restaurant at good prices in the area. Fresh fish, great selection, great service and seating area
Food- 5 stars
Mixed tempura- I judged this appetizer too quickly. It wasn’t the best in presentation but this was very good and fresh. Enjoyed every bite
Sushi sashimi lunch- this was really good. Fish and rice were perfect temperature and the fish was fresh. Favorite piece was the white fish/sea bream but everything was good
Crab roll- they used real blue crab here and were good with the portions. Delicious!
Service- 5 stars
Excellent service throughout. Staff were nice and attentative
Ambiance- 5 stars
Spacious booth seating in a well-lit area.
Bottom Line
Excellent local sushi spot with fresh fish and very delicious food. Will be coming back!

After fasting for a blood test, I was starving for some sushi. The ambiance and atmosphere was great. The chefs at the bar and in the kitchen were very hospitable. The menu and place sittings were great as well as the food being presentable which I will share below. First time coming here and will definitely come here again next year. I am unfamiliar with the area so am unsure if there was a parking structure nearby.

Rated 5 stars because the sushi is absolutely excellent. We do sushi every several days, and whenever traveling, make a point to stop at new sushi restaurants and have a broad experience base. Very good fish quality, nice presentation, excellent flavor, great mouth feel. We ate every amazing bite.
Thank you!
The staff are very kind, but service was rather slow and we had to ask for several items more than once (chopsticks and plates arrived after asking twice, and our sushi was sitting at the table for 5 minutes). Frustrating. Our sake took a long time to arrive, as did the green tea and water. We canceled our Miso as the sushi arrived and sat, and the miso never arrived.
The atmosphere is good, aside from a rather violent R rated movie playing on 3 of the 6 big screen tvs. Not so great for anyone under 12. Two of the tvs had Jurassic World playing, so take that as you will.
Plenty of space with tables, booths, and the typical bar near the chefs.
We'll definitely be back and will recommend this place, but know that it's a mixed experience. A great spot if you have the time and are willing to support a small local business with great food! Be patient, it's worth it!

We arrived at around 6:30pm on a Saturday and found it to be pretty empty. They seemed short staffed. Food was slow getting to us. A little pricier vs other Japanese restaurants. Menu lacks pictures for easy ordering. Bento boxes start at $20. Unaju Donburi portion was small for $24.

The best sushi I've ever had! I got the Sushi A. The roll was top tier, but the sushi... I'm not exaggerating... it was the best I've ever had by far. The worst part of this experience is the fact that I live on the east coast and won't be able to frequent this establishment.

This place is amazing!! Our server was new but already great! She was attentive and kind. And the food was amazing! I brought my family, who are a bit new to sushi. She and the chef answered all of our questions and guided us in some ideas for the table. Everything was amazing. Some of the best sushi I've ever had! I highly recommend, if you're in the area, to stop here!

Went there for lunch, their $17 bento lunch is popular but I would like to try out their lunch sushi special. It was Sushi B on $30 for 1 hand roll and 6pc sushi, good for price

Too expensive for what you get. Similar places offer the same food for half the cost nearby.

Recommended Sushi Tengoku to colleagues coming down for a work meeting. They have a great combo menu for lunch time and their ice cream macarons are awesome for dessert.

Came in to an empty restaurant at 7PM on a Friday. We had the Spicy Tuna Roll, Albacore, Tsuri Roll, and Potato AVO-Holic roll. Everything tasted great, the spicy tuna was a bit strong. Later that night we got food poisoning.

Great spot, higher prices then some other sushi spots but the quality is on par with that. Very friendly staff! I recommend the Crab Croquettes, Hungry Steve roll and Hot Night roll. All excellent!

Went tonight for my sons birthday. Julie was the best. Treated my family very nicely, answered questions, gave suggestions and was so sweet to us. Food was excellent rolls and sushi came out with great presentation and phenomenal flavor. Had a lot of rolls that were exotic and not the usual you see at other spots. First time there but we will be back.

Average sushi place. Decent but pricy for the quality of food and service.

This sushi was legitimately the best sushi Ive enjoyed. I especially liked the sashimi and the Sexy Roll.

Maybe this was a bad night with a young, inexperienced waiter. My wife and I were initially the only customers. We ordered hot tea that was long in coming, and then only one lukewarm cup came with an apology that the hot water maker was broken. Eventually a second lukewarm cup arrived. Towards the end of our meal we asked for more hot tea and suggested that the tea be microwaved so that it would be hot. We got two more lukewarm cups of tea! We had the excessive $9 charge for two cups of hot tea removed from the bill. We were underwhelmed by the food. Their spicy mushroom miso soup sounded really interesting, but it was overly spicy to the point that mushroom and miso flavors were absent. There were lots of interesting mushrooms in the soup that offered nice texture, and the soup was a decent hot temperature. The fish in the two orders of nigiri sushi were fresh and tasty, but rather thin and ball of rice had no stickiness, so fell apart immediately when dipped into the soy sauce. We had to ask for wasabi and ginger. It didnt come out with the sushi. No individual plates were offered, only sauce plates. The Dragon roll was quite good and a decent portion. The service was friendly and we received a nice thank you.

Been only 2 times. Looked empty based on area and being later at night, but definitely worth a visit. Will go back.
