This place gave a rustic atmosphere. I feel like I could have enjoyed looking at old photos and some town history. Our server was friendly and answered our questions. Definitely gave mom and pop diner feel. Food portions were great, and taste was on point. Hats off to he chef. Will definitely be going back.

Gone here a handful of times over the years and decided to finally make a review.
I got a burger which was great personally and was served quickly and was very presentable,
Who I was here with had several issues though from the chicken fried steak being honestly very just "eh" there was literally no available bread either as apparently they were just out of several types of bread so she wasn't served with any bread.

After this she doesn't want to come back however I will, it was a lesser experience from coming here but the vast majority of the other times I've come everything was great so 4 stars for now with potentially updating in the future on a return visit.
Service was friendly as always though.

This place is very home style...owner has a lot of unique things on display that interest anyone in oilfields.

Totally amazing Breakfast and lunch!
We experienced an amazing Diner experience!
They have an amazing collection of Bakersfield Nostalgia for you to enjoy while you experience your awesome breakfast or lunch! I had the Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast with a side order of Pancake!
Totally recommend ordering the Half portion!
My wife enjoyed the Chili Verde Omelette with Biscuits and Gravy! Also amazing!

Local hole in the wall. Portion sizes are big. I had the chicken fried steak, and it's probably the tastiest I've had. I enjoyed it with the grits. My hubby ordered extra crispy hashbrowns with his meal, which had a nice dark yellow crust and was not mushy inside. The coffee kept coming. I will return if I'm ever back in town.

The freedom toast was delicious. The restaurant seemed a bit dusty with all the older decor and it is very small, but its very cute and old-timey. Our server was great! We loved our breakfast and would come back again.

1st timer driving through with TRUCK & TRAILER - parking in back and lots of semi trucks. Easy in&out gas station next to the restaurant. Seat you right away with good coffee real quick. Diverse population of people eating.
Always filling your coffee and very nice. Tender meat for the Chile Colorado breakfast. Fresh, homemade chicken fried steak. We were in and out with breakfast and gas in ONE HOUR.

customer service was great cool place but the food wasnt that good. Me and my daughter went there i orderd coffe and chicken fried steak (the hafe option). my daughter got the kids bacon eggs with a water. And it was $44.79 after i left the tip it was over a $55 breakfast. Thats crazy for one adult and a child

Pappy’s has consistently been in the top ten of restaurants in Bakersfield for a great breakfast, been here several times and it has always been fresh and darn delicious.
I ordered the hamburger patty, eggs, country potatoes and biscuits and gravy, it was outstanding. Shelli was my waitress and she did a wonderful job.
Pappy’s is a “blue collar “ restaurant, meaning it is filled with oilfield memorabilia, animal mounts and some mixed match furniture. You won’t find any flowers on the tables. What you will find is great grub, catered to the hard working men and women who make Bakersfield great.

My mom (a senior) went and got a half order of the cheese omelette and ended up getting charged more than the full omelette’s listed price (supposedly the senior discount). The bill is not itemized and prices seem arbitrary based on how the waitress (server #8) feels about you.

The waitress offers a half order omelette but then decided at the time of giving the bill that she can’t serve a $5 omelette. She shouldn’t have offered to provide a half sized omelette and then up charge the person. Makes zero sense

Worst breakfast food & service in town. The omelet was mostly eggs with slight veggie filling, it had to be remade since it wasn't egg whites, the country potatoes tasted like they came right out of a frozen bag, my husband didn't even eat his eggs because they were so bad (he's not picky either), we weren't checked on being at the back, so my drink was completely empty for a while. Felt like forever til we finally received our bill. The bill was not broken down by price, only the total amount written big. We couldn't believe how high it seemed, but you can't confirm what you were charged since it's only a hand written description with no amount. Very unprofessional. The only positive thing was my son liked their oatmeal. It's been years since we've been to Pappy's & sadly, we won't return.

Food tastes very processed and waitresses are using bare hands to touch food in the kitchen. The house potatoes taste frozen not fresh and the eggs are pre battered eggs not fresh. For the price it isn't worth it. No options if ur allergic to gluten and bread for breakfast except fruit which is not fresh. The place may have big portions but the food taste like buffet and low quality.

Today was their 25th Anniversary and everything we had was so delicious , service was on point! Service was courteous, polite, friendly not overly attending but perfectly always on point and prompt.

Omg should of taken pictures of our food omg 100 plus stars. Our good friend and dialysis nurse told us about this place. So glad we came omg it was breakfast, lunch n dinner. Next we are bringing our son and his girlfriend this weekend. It look like family owned company and I recommend to everyone they are only open until 1pm but they are so so good. Service was very professional, fast and family orientated. Ambiance like your at home with your grandparents so beautiful.

Very racist. Went in on a Sunday. Didn't even seat us just told us to go to the 3rd booth and never talked to us again. Ignored us but helped everyone around us. Didn't even get water, coffee, silverware or anything. Will never return.

Me and my kids have loved going here for years. Family feel atmosphere. I generally get Migas while they get the Freedom Toast. You don't leave hungry, that's for sure. Sometimes, there is a wait, but it's worth it. The inside is decorated with all things old oil Bakersfield. It's fun to read about local history while you wait for your good. You'll also find pictures of famous people that have visited. I've never had a bad experience here.

When for late breakfast today and sat there with my family and watch customer that came after use get waited on. It was kinda messed up the waitress and owner looked directly at us buy no help. So we hade the best breakfast at Lorraines downtown! Yep drove all the way to Lorraines to get excellent service and delicious food

This place was definitely busy on a Saturday morning. Seems like plenty of locals go here for breakfast on the weekend. I can definitely recommend the pancakes - they were great. I wasn't a huge fan of the hash browns, though our service was very good.

Hawaiian Freedom French Toast was excellent. Service was superb. Decor was an interesting look at petroleum history in Bakersfield. Looking forward to going to Pappy's ag as in. However, beware of the flimsy paper cups which they fill with warm syrup. Very easy to spill syrup all over the table, seat, and clothes.

We had to wait 10 minutes when they had a lot of tables open. The workers just looked at us and walked away. Food was cold. Drink was water down. Will not be going back for a long time.

The food is always very good. The LADIES who serve are amazing. The only thing I have to complain about, would be, the kids in the short, shorts. Not very people friendly, and seems rather oblivious on his to speak to customers. I'm just assuming he's kin to the owners. Other than that. Come on by, and enjoy some great food. Fingers crossed he isn't your server.

Bakersfield food done right! I've never been disappointed with the quality, quantity or service here. The owner is also there to lend a helping hand or converse with. All my family goes there from weekly to monthly for generously portioned meals and all the comforts of local fare. You will not be disappointed.

Ordered chicken fried steak, normally really good at any restaurant. I'm not sure what they used to dredge the 1/4" thin steak but it was absolutely horrible! And to top it off, the coating was raw on the inside. It was not even edible. The "country potatoes" looked and tasted like frozen hash browns. The biscuit and gravy was good. Eggs were very bland, but that is to be expected. Very poor quality of food. Not in a rush to go back.

I have had so many great meals here at Pappys. If you like hot sausage you will love there's. You get so much food for the price it is worth every penny. The staff are excellent and always kind. As a Veteran they offer a free coffee and biscuits and gravy. I want to say thanks to all the staff.

The BEST breakfast in 10 miles! It looks really cool with all the oilfield signs and pictures, and the servers are always attentive and polite. I especially like the Snakebite omelette. The place is usually well cleaned. One thing I don’t like is that there’s only one toilet in the whole restaurant. Other than that, everything else is fabulous about this place.

Bring your appetite! Large portions of really good food! This place is a locals favorite! The place it's self is nothing special...set up as a old style diner....but the food is great. Good service too! The place can be busy, but usually do not have a long wait to be seated. 5 egg omelets and other breakfasts are going to fill even the hungrier eaters. The double bacon cheeseburger is HUGE!

Small, quaint, many old photos and artifacts decorate this place. The food was generous, even on the Senior menu. Prices have gone up, but, equal to other restaurants. Staff was on it. I had coffee always hot and good. I highly recommend Pappy's.

Normally we love Pappy’s but this time they truly disappointed me. Ordered a Eggs Benedict only to have the yolks hard boiled and barely added any Hollendise sauce. Ruined my breakfast. I also ordered a bowl of fresh fruit. The fruit was soft and just about to turn rotten. There quality is slipping.

We went to breakfast at this place so we could sit outside with our dog. They acted like we were aliens because we requested an outside table. They have this awesome patio with heaters and it seams they don't want to utilize it for political reasons. Back to Village Grill.
