SoCal Tamal & Churro Company

SoCal Tamale truly captures the experience and flavors of East Los Angeles taco trucks, but in a welcoming brick-and-mortar setting. The carne asada is absolutely on point, and their triple-filtered purified water is a nice touch. I can also personally vouch for the menudo—it’s excellent!

My go-to plate is the huevos rancheros with meat, but the quesabirria tacos and consommé combo is another favorite of mine. Honestly, I haven’t tried anything here that I didn’t enjoy.

What really stands out, though, is the staff. Everyone is always so kind and attentive, which makes the experience even better. Kudos to the team managing this location—you’re doing an amazing job.

Passing through Bakersfield yesterday and We wanted to find a good spot to eat Mexican food. I asked Google and SoCal Tamal & Churro Company came up. " L.A. Street Style Food."

We ordered a wet burrito and a birria burrito. Absolutely delicious. There was so much more on their menu I wanted to try and will save for another time.

The people and staff working were awesome making sure we were taking care of asking us if the food was good how everything was and provided us with anything we needed also the quickness from when we order to receiving our food nice and fresh was so awesome and the vibe is awesome everything is awesome I can't wait to go again.

Gross 🤮 I requested extra shots and less milk.. when I asked where the coffee was the cashier told me they only put 6 oz of milk in this. It’s a damn cup of milk with caramel drizzle inside the cup. Disappointing af!

This place is one of my favorites in Bakersfield. The food is authentic and the customer service is amazing!!! I work near by and this place is definitely a favorite for our company. Everytime I go in I’m greeted with a smile. Luis is great! Luis definitely makes the customers feel valued and will take the time to remember a name and order if he can. 100% recommend

This place will charge you for toasting your food without telling you. On top their drive-through screen would not tell you the actual total you would find out only when you see your receipt. I have never seen any restaurant charging for toasting your food.

My wife and I went we had the asada nachos and a torta the chips were old and stale we couldn t finish our food and I stood up to ask for a bag and I was standing there for 5 mins made eye contact with at least 3 employees and no one even bothered to ask if I needed anything food was okay but not for their price point they need a lot of improvement on customer service will never be going back

Hands-down the best Mexican food Ive had in years, and well worth the price. I will absolutely be back, maybe even tomorrow! My toasted birria burrito was an absolute beast; the perfect balance of tender, flavorful birria, excellently seasoned rice, just the right amount of cheese et al, with a crispy toasted tortilla to bundle it all up, and delicious zesty, green salsa on the side was truly spectacular. We also ordered churros, which did not disappoint. I dare say they might be the best Ive ever had... Many places have them, but few can really nail the crispy, crunchy outside and soft, fluffy inside like this place did. They have an arsenal of delicious dipping sauces, and they really struck a great cinnamon/sugar ratio. I topped it all off with a MASSIVE limon jamaica agua fresca that was splendidly refreshing. Another of us had the pepino pina flavor, which she also loved! As if the food wasnt enough to convince wary customers to go, we were also impressed with how *clean* the place was. The stainless steel hoods over the grills, the floor, the walls, and the tables were all spotless. We felt very comfortable eating there, and the staff were all very friendly and patient as we were deliberating over the wide assortment of menu offerings. Top-notch experience, 10/10. We WILL be back!

SoCal Tamal is either a hit or a miss. Both with food, and with service. Some days the food is great! And other days, I can order the exact same thing (Im a creature of habit), and the food is different. When its good, its good! But when it isnt, Im left questioning what the heck happened. Same with the service. Hit or miss. I do feel like the service is better when you get off the car to order inside, compared to the drive-thru.

Bad in my life I go there again I ordered shrimp cocktail and it tastes like water with about 4 shrimp the water tastes like water with a few drops of horrible flavor I found a large part of onion inside my cocktail and the tacos look like they were beaten And after they gave them to me, this place is horrible and things dont even taste good.

If your ever in the Bako area you gotta stop at this restaurant. Everything looks delicious on the menu. I had birria ramen and a couple tacos and they were very good, met my expectations. They also can put hot cheetos in any dish you order. I will be visiting this place every time Im in the area.

Ordered menudo and the meat was very tough as if it wasn t cooked thoroughly. I called the restaurant on Pacheco and Wible to explain this and I was told well everyone here is eating it as opposed to considering the quality of food I received. I have consistently ordered from this restaurant, and as a frequent customer I was surprised of the lack of consideration and poor customer service. With this experience, it has tarnished my desire to continue to be a loyal customer. A simple understanding of my suggestion in the quality of the way tasted would have been appreciated, rather zero accountability was taken. It s disappointing to be a loyal customer somewhere and you re treated without any sort of consideration. I support local businesses but they should also strive to proved higher customer service and quality of food.

We are from Florida and were staying at the Koa right around corner from here....and its amazing. The steak street tacos on homemade tortillas, chicken empanda, rice were fabulous. I will always refer this place. We are here for 3 more days, and will be eating here many times before we leave. Cant wait to try breakfast in the morning. I would rate this place 0/5 stars, but google won t let me. I would rate them a zero because of their extremely unprofessional management. We called two weeks in advance to place a large order for the party platters, and they took down our order, name and cell phone number, and told us we would receive a call back the next day. Never got one so we called instead and they said they needed their cater to handle it and that he ll call us the next day. So we waited until the next day until about 3:30 pm, never received a call so I called instead and they told me the same thing, saying he would call me later that day. Never received a text or call at all. A few days later the carter text me and says they ll make sure to put an order in and to tell him what we wanted once again, and that he would confirm the purchase. We texted them back right away and absolutely no text for a whole week. So we decided to go somewhere else for the party food, but once we received a text back, we decided to order 1 small party platter for the next day after the party. We texted him that and he said he would make sure to put in the order and call us to get a deposit. Not once did he call or text for that information, so it s good we got food somewhere else. The day after the party comes and we call to see if our order was even in, and to no surprise, there was no order. They were so unorganized and all over the place and couldn t give a yes or no answer on whether they would be able to have my food ready at the time I needed it to be, even though I gave them 2 week notice. Lastly, the person who was texting me back on message was completely rude on text, so I highly DO NOT recommend this place. Extremely unprofessional, unorganized, and not reliable. Thank you

I ask for the tamales to be completely separate from the rest of the food because my 92 year old pops cant eat to much at one time. I feel people dont listen to customers anymore, there are reasons for why we ask for certain things. Pay more attention to your customers please . I needed to freeze one tamale, now cant because there is no husk left on it.

I really enjoy the food but quite ridiculous to say you re open at 7am for breakfast yet it s almost 8am and no one bothers to respond in the drive thru to take the order (I know they heard my baby crying). I pulled up to the window, there were clearly workers inside. Went elsewhere for breakfast. Service needs improvement ASAP.

9/16/23 8:30am went for cafe de la holla, they didn t have any, my son ordered a papa guapa, & tamale and sprite soda. After they charged him they told him no papa guapa, & tamale would be 30 more mins, They refunded the tamale & papa $14, but not the card fee (.50 cents) we left to go to McDonald s then found out the sprite ($3) he ordered which they did not refund was only carbonated water with no syrup, totally disappointed, will not be coming back. I had tacos for taco Tuesday of course...i know its basic but i appreciate it fun food days. The food was yummy. The environment was fun yet small. The drinks were giant and tasted good. I had the jamaica which was good. I had 2 Carne asada tacos, 1 carnitas taco, and 3 chicken tacos (my mom likes chicken tacos). The taste felt well spiced but it had a lil more oils than in other places. It felt like they made their own tortillas which tasted good in and of themselves. I would definitely recommend and I will be going back to try other food from there....plus they have a drive thru.

The food is really good. The girl behind the counter really isnt too eager to work. The trash was overflowing so badly that we went outside to eat. There was no one in the place that would have constituted the trash being left in that manor. As we were outside, she didnt even bother to look for us with our order, she said our food was ready a while ago and she didnt know where we went. (Literally right outside the window) had the trash been taken out, we wouldve been noticed. Lol.

Very disappointed today on ordering so cal tamal on this location for drive thru. I have been going to the drive thru every tuesdays for years and never expected the un-professionalism of the person working on the drive thru around 6:00pm. I was never told the price increased to 1.50$ and the tripas is 2$ on tuesday and the agua fresca to 6$ I was just surprised with a crazy bill of 40$ that usually only would cause me 22$. The price did not bother me that much, what bother me is when I ask for green salsa nicely ,the person on the drive thru very rudely said to me they cannot give green salsa atm, while I watch another guy make new batches of green salsa on small containers.I think hes a new worker that needs some training or at least let some people aware of the price increased. I really love it when the owner is there hes super nice, i never met this rude employee before hopefully this gets resolved with proper training. Not just the price increased but the chip that I always get is not available as well. Very disappointed

Great lil spot for food drinks and or treats. Quality made tacos, delicious salsa and more. I didnt try a churro...I will next time! Well be back for sure.

Very mid, tried tacos and toasted birria burrito, way too many onions on tacos and birria. They are also using red onions in the burritos, laughable. La villa is better than here, and la villa isnt that good either.

I come here alot, but today I spent more than I should have on some different foods... I was not satisfied or near impressed! The street dog come w the street dog price but its just a normal sized hotdog. It was good but not for the price. The cheese fries that came with were good. The shrimp cocktail is a complete waste and pass, horrible I just threw it away!!!
