Old River Grill at Riverlakes

Today was our first time here and we absolutely had a great experience overall. Food was delicious and full of flavor. The service was on point (server was Angelica). I ordered the Pastrami Burger and my wife got the Monterey Chicken Club. Both were very good, and the fries were really good as well (lightly battered and seasoned). We also got the mimosa flight, which was really nice and a good deal for $25. Our server was genuinely nice (not the over the top, fake friendliness), and checked on us regularly. I 100% recommend this locally owned/family owned restaurant.

We got here when there was no wait to get seated. With in 10 min we placed our order but had to wait 47 to get our order. I’m not sure if this is the norm but with a 2 year old it was like pulling teeth. I tried to stay optimistic telling myself they still could redeem themselves if the food is good. My wife had the chicken and waffle. The waffle was ok, it was a little on the dry side. The chicken to batter ratio was a little off. It had more batter than chicken, a little dry but the flavor was there. I got my son the french toast. It was a little tough for him to eat but he will eat anything with syrup. I got the cinnamon roll pancake breakfast. I’m a big guy and I couldn’t finish them, probably the best cinnamon pancake I ever had. There are good and bad at this place. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. You can eat out doors or in. It feels like a mix of a old dinner mixed with modern. What got me was the wait after ordering….Kid or not it was a little long. Sitting with a 2 year old that long is crazy. I will come back to check out what else they have to offer but I’m not in a rush to get back. For the three of us we spent $59.

The food was amazing it’s hard to find place where they have big breakfast now a days. Our server Shelby was friendly and welcoming. I had the country fried steak it filled me up. I’m a big boy and it’s hard to do that. Would definitely recommend.

Favorite spot...it’s more than breakfast.
The outdoor seating has come in clutch during 2020 as it has always been there and it is not a makeshift dining space.
The seating is comfortable and roomy. Heaters available during cooler temperatures and fans during the summer.

The food is always delicious and the staff is always consistently nice and courteous.
It’s so nice to dine where the staff is familiar with the menu and can offer great suggestions such as if you don’t get toast or biscuits and gravy you can enjoy a single pancake or French toast.

Today we enjoyed mimosa flights which were great you get the bottle with glasses of a variety of juice.

My mom and I frequent this place and we have never had anything less then a 5 star experience! The food is always so good. We usually come during the week so seating is ample but on weekends they do get busy.

Seating is both outside and inside. Service is quick and always ensuring we had everything we need.

I look forward to coming here again! Service was great and it was easy to find parking.

I said, "Could I please get a coffee to go , I didn't get a chance to drink mine" she turned away found my waitress and told her to make me a cup.
The waitress didn't say anything to me and handed me my cup.
I could understand this type of behavior if I was trouble or if I was complaining, but I didn't and shame shame shame on how the staff and there lead waitress/Mngr treated me

I took my daughter her this past Saturday for a mom and daughter date and everything about it was great. My servers were Tracy and Elana and they both had the best personalities and made sure we were taken care of. Our food was delicious as well. We will be returning!

Well, I've been here 2 times and both times have received 2 wrong orders. not complicated orders, just no onions on my patty melt, and my wife ordered a hamburger patty. I got a patty melt with onions so thick I thought it was bacon at first, and my wife got chicken breast. you might say the waitress heard us wrong, but she read the order back to us correctly. I will gladly pay for my iced tea when you give me my 45 minutes back

I’ve been here a few times. Pretty nice non-chain option. Like most places, the prices are noticeably higher. At my last visit, our group waited quite a while for everything except water refills when it really wasn’t that busy. Some staff training might be in order.

I have been going there for years, always on the waiting list. This time we stopped for breakfast without reservation. Four customers were waiting. Our name was put on the waiting list, Forty minutes later we left. Disappointing as 21 other patrons can and left. All we were told was, we have your name.

I used to come and eat here at least once a week. I always had a wonderful time and amazing food. I moved away a few years back and when I came into town I immediately wanted to eat here. The atmosphere was the same which I loved. The servers were all super sweet, but they seemed pulled all over the place so we weren’t offered any refills until we were done eating. My biggest complaint was the food was nothing like it used to be. My eggs weren’t cooked properly, the potatoes came out hard, and the toast was barely toasted. I was really sad that the place I boasted about to my fiancé was nothing like I had told him when we came to eat. I also was a bit sad we didn’t get any muffins like everyone else who came in did. I doubt I’ll return in the future, I wish it went back to what it was (which was top tier!)

It was our first time at Old River. We have lived in the area for a while. We decided to try it out. All and all it was a great atmosphere. Why we decided to review is because our waitress Emily was an absolute joy to have. She definitely made our time much more enjoyable. Of course the food was very good and came out not even 15 minutes after order. We will definitely be back soon. Thank you Emily!!

The food here is always very good, but that's also the reason that it is often very packed and the way to get in is often anywhere between 20 and 40 minutes. Is it worth the wait? That would be up to you to decide but I have waited up to 30 minutes for a seat to get in. The cinnamon roll French toast is sublime and the preflight mimosa is a great reason to go with some friends.

This is a busy place, expect a wait but it is worth the wait. The food is delicious and the servers are some of my favorite people in Bakersfield. The atmosphere is nice but expect it to be loud during the busy meal times. Still an overall great experience.

Great food at both locations! Reasonable prices as well. A few brands of beer available as well as an awesome bloody Mary!
Service is excellent also! I had the pepper jack burger...specials on Wednesday! $10!

Food was great, a little bit on the pricey side for breakfast, but I think it's normal now. Eggs are expensive, wages have gone up. Coffee was good, and servings were big, we had a good sized doggy bag. Their waitlist is great, they text you when your table is ready. It was Saturday, and we waited about 15 minutes. Water and coffee provided outside while you wait. By the time we got there the coffee was cold. Good thought but didn't work for us. All in all, we were happy with our experience.

I eat here regularly. They have wonderful service, and the food is good, home style prep and presentation. It's nice they offer the choice of sitting outside or in. Outside they have a high wall with greenery all around the top to separate the diners from the parking lot.
I ordered online and didn't get our English muffin. Didn't care for the potato salad. Everything else was fine.
I consider 4 stars to be very good. I reserve 5 stars for exceptional experiences. This place is definitely worth a visit.

Chicken fried steak was great, my wifes lobster benedict was not so good as well as her hashbrowns were clearly under cooked. Seems strange because both my well cooked hashbrowns were right next to her undercooked ones and the waitress either didnt care or just didnt look down to see.

The service was not an issue on any of my 3 visits. However, I have had less than OK food all three times! I dont believe Im a snooty, foodie but a perfect example of the quality of food was last Wed. afternoon. I ordered a BLT with avacado, fruit on the side. My first bite was pineapple, it smelled like and had the slighest taste of onion! Not sure how that happened? Then I took a bite of the sandwich and the toast was so hard! I felt like it had been toasted earlier in the day and reheated and served. I didn"t complain to the server so she had no idea. Nor did I complain to my friend who shared the sandwich with me. We were out for a nice time. Please don't respond with an apology. Im not looking for that. I'll only be back when that is where a friend or friends want to go. I will never chose to come here.

Best place for breakfast in town. Stop what you're thinking. I don't need to hear it. This is the place. Service is on point. The food is the best breakfast food in town. The menu is full of the usual fare and then loaded with exceptional specialties that will have you coming back to try them all. Great flavor and service. It's no wonder there is always a line to get into this place.

This place is always good, there food is high quality and usually in a large quantity and portion size.

I recommend going earlier in the morning on the weekend, it gets extremely busy and they flip tables slowly. They've been getting better but historically they are slow. But again, SO worth it!

First time trying this place, I was attracted from the moment I walked up with the shady patio and hostess outside to take name and number, she was quick and kind. Waitresses were kind and on tip of it. Food was so delicious! I tried the chilequles chili verde that came with homemade pot beans. Hasbrown, and biscuit and gravy. So delicious!!!!!! I will definitely be back!

We had a nice lunch. The food was good and service as to be expected. The 50/50 burger is definitely worth trying!!
