Skillets Diner

Eggs were overcooked, the potatoes were burned and I kept getting burnt pieces in my mouth so that was gross. The gravy was ok. I honestly did not like the food at all it lacked a lot and just felt like rushed pile of food. I will give them another try. I want to believe the food is better and perhaps I just got the short end of the stick. But if I get the same experience I will not come back. We wanted to order dessert but the waitress didn’t take my order.

We had the most amazing service and the food is always pristine.
Their coffee is by far the best coffee I tasted from any of these restaurants. I'm very happy to go here because there's never too many people here and the services always great.

Really good. Friendly and attentive staff. CeAnn was our server and she was amazing. The skillets were good but it could have had more gravy. The Ruben sandwich was good. He said it was the best he's had. The French toast could have used a bit more egg in the batter but it had great flavor. Very pretty interior. The rest of the staff was very friendly from what I saw. The host was nice. All very pretty gals. Our first time but it wasn't for the ones we went with and we were definitely noticed as first timers and it was very nice to be noticed and appreciated. The prices were great for the food and style of this place. The food came out hot and on a timely matter and was plated and presented beautifully. Will definitely return

I had the pancake breakfast with egg over medium. Egg was perfect. I get a med egg cooked right about 1 in 100 xs. My husband had the country steak burrito smothered with gravy. He loved it! Huge portion. He brought half home and he never does that. He has a Big appetite. Only thing, and it is pretty picky on my part, but the forks were small and light and when I cut my pancake the fork cut into my hand. I have arthritis in my hands and a more balanced (size/weight) would have made the experience nicer.

Food was good and reasonably priced. Plenty of floor space and seating available. Service was lacking. They got our drinks and food out fast then never came around until we were finished eating, to ask if we needed a refill on our tea or coffee. I did not feel guilty about leaving only a 10% tip.

It's basic American fare, nothing fancy here. It fills you up and tastes good. I got a vegetable omelet, it was undercooked, so a bit crunchy. The pancakes are delicious! Service is always good, so I like coming here with my family to get breakfast.

Service and layout was great.
The food was ok, nothing special. Kind of an out of the box and slapped on the grill to warm type of taste but nothing wrong with it.
A little pricey for what is offered but that's the way of the world these days. $25 for one person.

Tried this restaurant for the first time with the familia. Typical Cafe type of setup with open space seating. It wasn't glamorous at all. I did expect more than a typical Black Bear Diner type. However, it was typical. Food was less than spectacular and the service was okay.

Too much food! Most everyone left with "to go" containers. Otherwise our entire experience was good. Not sure if this will become a regular "eating out" restaurant for us since it's either sandwiches or breakfasts

Second time in a row that we've been here and I've found hair in my food! We will never come back. If they don't have better quality control than that then they need to be shut down.

I got my meal. My wife waited 15 minutes and never got here meal which was a simple BLT. Server did. Or even care. Both servers were ignored us. They shou be fired. We left without eating. We were there almost 40 minutes

Not busy. Went for breakfast. Waitress was fine. Delivered food to table. No refills on drinks till she gave us our check and offered to go drinks. Food was ok. I wouldn’t go back. Once was enough for me. Reviews were good online but my experience was just ok.

I had the Sunrise Skillet and it was delicious. Also tried the French toast and garlic Parmesan bread with friends. Really good service, not too rushed or too slow. Will come back if I ever come back to Bakersfield.

We came here for a lovely brunch with some friends. I shared a wonderful chili omelette with my boyfriend and we LOVED it. it was perfectly savory with the chili being to overwhelming. I would highly recommend this if you are looking for a little get together with friends.

My friend and I started going to Skillets Diner a couple months ago and we have been there several times since for both breakfast and lunch. We really enjoy the great variety of dishes available and the service has always been efficient and friendly. We highly recommend Skillets Diner!

Normally I luv this place but this morning was kinda bad. It was a little busy but there were 5 waitresses so we figured it wouldn't be long. We ordered right away but it took forever to get our food. When we finally got it it was cold and we had to ask them to heat it up. I hope the girls were just having a bad day. I want to keep coming here but not if it stays like this.

My skillet was dynamite! The Santa Fe skillet! My wife was amazed it didn't come with toast but my doctor wants me to avoid bread anyway! Didn't notice it until I read the menu later but it didn't have green onions as advertised! My wife had a butcher meat burrito that she said was off tasting. We'll go back and try again! Lot more room for tables and on mellow days maybe outside on the small patio area! Went again today a special today was a Monte Cristo while tasty I'd prefer it fried instead of grilled. Should have gotten the Santa Fe! The Chile Rellano omelet sounded good too.

We've gone to Skillet Diner for about 2 years. We go every other Saturday. The food is great! But.... one of the waitresses has created an uncomfortable environment for my family and I. We had a bad experience with this waitress about a month ago. I spoke to the owner about it and he said he would address it. He said please don't stop coming. I said okay we will come back. We went this morning and that same waitress that we had a bad experience with came to our table and then said they'll be right with you. She then goes and talks to the other waitresses like whispering about me. Well.... they take our order and they bring us our food. Not even a few minutes later, they bring the bill. They didn't ask if we needed anything else or how is the food or anything at all. It felt like we were being rushed to get out of there. It wasn't busy either. I spoke to Sébastien, he was helpful and he told me the owner was on Vacation. There was another girl there who was very kind and helpful also. This was a another horrible experience. My family and I will NEVER go eat there again!

Really nice spot off the beaten path for a decent breakfast. Seems to be not as well known as comparable places so you don't have to talk over everybody and their mother. They have a champagne float deal where you can get four glasses for pretty cheap. The food selection was plentiful and the skillet I got was very good. You'll definitely see me here again soon!

I can't believe we hadn't found this place sooner as it's just down the road. We went on a Saturday when most places are packed but there was no wait. The food was great (breakfast) as was the service. We'll definitely be back.

Update: Tried again today. Coffee burned or at least pots are not being cleaned. Ham steak had an odd taste alsmost like cleaner. BLT sandwiches bacon was burned and in chunks which fell out of them. Breakfast sandwich toast burned on one side. Very poor quality control. Haven't seen the owner in the last couple visits and asked if there was a new owner. Seems there is. Not sure when they took over, but looks like we are finding a new Sunday breakfsst spot.

It is unfortunate that I am writing this. We have been coming to this diner for a few years now at least three times a month. Came in on Sunday end of February, we were seated quickly and hostess got drink. coffee was burned and our attempts to get someone's attention went unanswered. Waited close to 15 min and never saw a waitress and someone who was seated after us had already received their food. So we left.
The owner who we talked to regularly was not there. Called a couple times to speak with the owner. However, each time they were not in. Called again today and was told they don't know when the owner would be in and didn't know when the manager would be in Nd would t take a message. So the last step is to write this since the staff doesn't care and the owners are not available . Horrible that their service has gone down hill. I hope it gets better

First time at this place and I’m not impressed. We went in at around 12pm on a Friday. It wasn’t very busy maybe 5 tables, most of which already had their food. Service was pretty slow. We ordered a burger and French toast combo. It took at least 25-30 minutes before we got our food. Food came out slightly warm, tasted okay but nothing special about it. I ordered the burger medium and it came out pretty well done. There are definitely much better restaurants in Bakersfield.

Had a Cobb salad which was very delicious, my server CeAnn was very gracious. But saying all that the other waitresses seem willing to help each others customers to stop by and help to make sure you had coffee or iced tea their names were Gretchen and faith look forward to going back!

I only came here thinking I could get some basic diner fare and unlimited coffee as I had some work to do and time to kill before a flight. So I posted up in a booth with my Chromebook and was pleasantly surprised to see they had huevos rancheros on special. I rolled the dice but hit it big as this was DEAD ON and even came with a side of pinto beans. This is the food I love to eat. Very pleasant servers - this place is a gold mine. Highly recommended.

When I was in the military I used to get Eggs Benedict with Turkey because I'm not crazy about ham. They were happy to make the changes. Friendly staff and quick service. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

One of the best breakfast places I know of. Steak and eggs always cook the perfection and they make my hash browns extra crispy just the way I love them and more than reasonable on the pricing. Love this place

I had a vegan breakfast burrito. It was good. It came with fries. I wish there had been another option… fruit… salad.
It was a great place for my large family to gather.

Pros: friendly waitstaff, large indoor dining space (better for COVID spacing), decent French toast, decent coffee

Cons: mostly just decent; no complaints, but not noteworthy either; not in a diner car

Also: in a mini-mall; very high ceilings [could be a pro for diner worshippers]!

I didn't get to try the home fries and I'd go back to check them out if I were in the area...

Today I wanted to come here for my birthday and I have no review on the waiters or food because walking in my family and I felt from the people who were dining in there gave us the impression we weren't welcomed. From our pov it was not a good aura. So one star due to the rude people who dined there.

We had an amazing lunch brunch. Excellent and friendly staff. We got the chili verde skillet and the southern skillet. Both were well portioned and tasted great. The chili verde wasn’t that spice and had perfect amount of heat. The potatoes were well cooked and had the perfect seasoning on them. Would be coming back to try the burgers.

Chili Verde skillet. Had a mild heat, enough to keep it interesting. The other dish was Southwest Chicken skillet, grilled chicken, onions, red and green peppers too. Added some Cholula sauce to spice it up. Friendly staff and owners.

Super patient server, food was really fresh. Gravy might have been a little bland, and maybe undercooked. I can still taste the flour in it. But I am grateful for the opportunity to actually eat in the restaurant again!

Food was good. My family and me were visiting Bakersfield for a wedding. Needed a place for breakfast and came by here twice. The server (never got her name) she was nice and patient with us. (There was like 7 of us, 3 were children) definitely will stop by again when in town.

Always pleased when I ordered here. Food is prepared well and presented nice and always hot.

The customer service I have received every time I pick up my food is off the charts. I hope the manager and it owner appreciates the staff.

I only show up ever month or so since they opened and the young lady the seats people always greets me by name and with much respect. I believe she is now a server. She deserves it for sure as she has the right kind of customer facing service.

The wait staff have been great, the food is always good and not once have I ever had an issue with my food. I say a win win
