Bakery/Bread items are delicious and priced at a good value. Breakfast and lunch entrees are delicious but expensive for the value. Drinks are tasty! Would rate this a 4.5 every time.

Great ambiance, lovely staff, and good array of items.

This place is solid but the prices are actually insane. Like, if the bread was next level I'd be happy to pay $14 for a loaf. But it's just 7/10 bread. Got some drinks here and same thing- drinks were solid but way overpriced. Guess they're catering to the rich SB crowd but not everyone can drop this kind of bread on bread

This place blows. Hopefully you can catch a glimpse a the emotional black hole that is Bob the owner. Just read other reviews if you want to get a preview. The pastries genuinely suck: artless sugar bombs designed to vacuum $6.50 out of your tired ass wallet. DON'T DO IT!!!!

Food was amazing, but like many of the reviews already say, rude and condescending owner working the register. Asked my friend if she knew what a macchiato is when she ordered and if she knew she wasn’t at a Starbucks. It costs nothing to be kind.

Kinda confused at how this place stays in business—maybe because there aren’t any other good pastry establishments in the area. The Kouign Amann was dry with nary a taste of quality. I also had a pistachio croissant and it was just as dry…sausage pastry sandwich was good, though…And what’s with half the staff? They never smile.

Was looking for a good breakfast, but encountered the owner at the register (Bob) and immediately walked out the door. Bob was rude and decided this was not the place to eat at. Definitely not a place I would ever recommend going to!
Bob, you might be better working in a factory where no one knows who you are.

On a road trip we were figuring out whether this place was a good stopover for breakfast. It was indeed. A small bakery that offers a lot more in dining options. The bakery and cafe has a small inner dinning area as well as an outdoor yard. The menu is casual but it offers enough options for breakfast and brunches. Bread is made to the standards found in larger cities. Definitely a worthwhile visit.

EXTREMELY rude owner was working the register this morning.
When you start your day with an attitude and face like this you should just stay home..
I was looking forward to breakfast here this am because a friend said the food was good
The owner just put me in a bad mood with his approach and attitude.
First, I was considering ordering something sweet, so I went to the display case to look at the pastries. I got reprimanded for doing so and told to get back into the line.
Then when I got to the register to order, the first thing he said was are you eating here, or what?
Then I said here please. He responded well the kitchen is at least half an hour, like he wanted me to order something quick and get out.
He seemed annoyed taking my order.
So, 1 ordered what I wanted since I was hungry, paid and left no tip.
He didn't deserve it.
If I wasn't so hungry and meeting my friend here I would have left and gone somewhere else.
The world is a stressful enough place without starting the first of my 2 days off like this.
Beware people...

Food is OK and the place is cute. HOWEVER, service was really rude. The guy at the counter was acting as if he was working for TSA. Also, my cappucino was forgotten, I had to ask for it 10min later. We ordered chocalate croissant, which looked really good. For $6 this was the most expensive croissant I have ever ordered. When it came it was cold and had definetly not been baked today. Overall dissapointing experience.

Review of Bob's Well Bread on Mother's Day

My husband and I visited Bob's Well Bread on Mother's Day, hoping for a delightful dining experience. Unfortunately, our visit left much to be desired.

**Service:**
Regrettably, our interaction with Bob, the owner, was disappointing. Despite ordering a variety of dishes, we encountered rudeness from Bob who is the owner which marred our experience.

**Food Quality:**
The food itself did not live up to our expectations. While we had high hopes, the dishes we ordered failed to impress.

**Ambiance:**
Additionally, the broken umbrella outside our table detracted from the ambiance. Its lopsided appearance was a noticeable inconvenience during our meal.

**Conclusion:**
Overall, our visit to Bob's Well Bread on Mother's Day fell short of our expectations. We hope this feedback helps improve the experience for future customers.

I’ve been here a few times, always giving it another chance. But I think this last visit will be our last for a while. Our food took sooo long, literally 35+ minutes. When asked they said “it’s coming out”…but it came out 10 mins later. When my husband asked that he said he saw the kitchen staff standing there in the back, and was so confused why they weren’t working?

They also do not allow any substitutions of any type. I tried switching the bread (it’s a bakery…) and they said no. I tried adding their bacon bits instead of turkey sausage, they said no. So at first I was like ok their kitchen must not be running smoothly and they need to get their footing before allowing substitutions to avoid mistakes & long wait times. Well, I was wrong in my assumption because of how long our food took.

They didn’t offer us anything as an apology for taking 35 minutes—not even a cookie or a croissant.

Quaint bakery and coffee shop located in the heart of a charming little town. The quality of the pastries was outstanding. I had a maple bacon scone that was delicious. The service was also great. The owner was extremely personable and helpful. While we didn’t eat in, the place had great seating options both inside and outside. I will definitely visit Bob’s Well Bread the next time I visit the area.

Bob's Well Bread is a must-stop spot for anyone craving freshly baked goods and a cozy coffee break. From the moment you walk in, the charming ambiance welcomes you with its inviting atmosphere and delicious aromas.

Bob's Well Bread prides itself on offering an array of freshly baked treats, from artisan bread to delectable pastries. Each item is crafted with care, ensuring a delightful experience for every visitor. Whether you're in the mood for a flaky croissant, a buttery scone, or a crusty baguette, you'll find something to satisfy your cravings here.

While the bakery goods are undoubtedly delicious, one minor suggestion would be to offer the option to have them warmed. There's nothing quite like the comfort of a warm pastry or bread straight from the oven, and providing this option would enhance the overall experience for guests.

Despite this small suggestion, Bob's Well Bread remains a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike. The friendly staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.

In addition to the mouthwatering baked goods, Bob's Well Bread also offers a selection of quality coffee and beverages to complement your treat of choice. Whether you're grabbing a quick snack on the go or settling in for a leisurely coffee break, this bakery has you covered.

Overall, Bob's Well Bread is a delightful gem that should not be missed. With its fresh baked goods, charming ambiance, and friendly service, it's the perfect spot to satisfy your cravings and indulge in a little slice of culinary heaven.

Nice vibe and cute setup in this little town. A bit on the pricey side for what you get though. You could tell that the pain de chocolate we got was earlier baked, the ham and cheese was good as was the granola. Although the size of the granola was on the small side for the price. Overall OK place to go though. The owner was yelling at some people who did not stand properly in line, which with the poorly managed line mgmt setup isn’t fully their fault. I guess you could also say it politely or ask them property or do something on the signage. Customers are your source of income, Bob.

Truly don’t understand why more people in the valley aren’t talking about this. Bob is truly, completely awful. He speaks to you as if it’s a disposition to him that you’re even there. I don’t understand why this man is even in customer service, he clearly is not aware of how rude he comes across. And this is not coming from a disgruntled fussy karen who couldn’t get their rock hard avocado toast in the time they wanted. This is coming from someone who has worked in the service industry for 10 years (and has dealt with unreasonable people out the wazoo) and quietly, humbly came in and ordered with no unreasonable requests, special substitutions, nada. I doubt he even remembers my order. And STILL I was treated like a massive inconvenience just by being there. Take a social skills course at the local community college Bob. The only reason you are still in business is because your client base are rich white folks who are either tourists or transplants from LA who don’t know good food from their own… well i’ll let you fill in the blank.

Visited twice, 5 stars for our first visit, loved their baguette, blueberry scone (instead of fresh they used dried blueberry, which surprisingly tasted even better, was sweet, tart and juicy!) and our coffee! But can only give 3 stars for our second, think they have some consistency issue. The cappuccino from our second visit tasted like it’s made by a machine on auto mode. The cherry chocolate scone was not comparable to the blueberry one in terms of flavor (tho it’s likely just a personal preference), and the oatmeal raisin cookie’s a bit stale.

Just don’t appreciate being asked for a gratuity for reaching to your right to grab a croissant. Not to mention then being embarrassed in front of other patrons when asked three more times. I moved on. Waited for coffee and my breakfast. Latter came out in a to go cup, no vanilla in the Vanilla Late. When I asked for the staff to add vanilla to the late I was looked at like I was asking for the moon. When I asked about the breakfast sand which on a French roll, was told that they only have breaky on biscuits and I was wrong. Weird as I pointed out the first sandwhich on the menu and the rude dude at the register said you didn’t say “ baguette.!” Breakfast sand-which came out and the egg was burned to a crisp and the waiter said “please enjoy!” Just had such high hopes for this place. Positive, the bread is really awesome. Suggestion, have an email on your website so I could contact someone directly instead of posting a review.

Had some excellent hot sandwiches for lunch, a Ruben and a meatloaf served on fresh baked bread with fresh greens. Cold sandwiches are pre-made, so you can't customize them, or so I couldn't that day. The place is a bit disorganized, not utilizing all the space they have very efficiently henceforth the 4 stars. Mostly outside se, ting which looked in disarray, messy and not well kept. We did have a recent rain event, so maybe they could not clean up before business open. Thankfully, I could take mine home to enjoy in a warm, cozy atmosphere. Oh yes, we did try the freshly made cookies, and I'm dreaming about the chocolate chip that I will return for soon.

Excellent! Avocado Toast Tartine is wonderful with two poached eggs. The bread is thick with a generous amount of mashed avocado topped with toasted pumpkin seeds. The toast is on a bed of fresh greens. The poached eggs are poached to perfection. The double cappuccino is so smooth no need to add sugar to offset bitterness and it is capped off with just the right amount of steamed milk presented in a lovely leaf design.

Whenever I travel toward southern California, I try to stop here. If I am lucky enough to arrive early enough to get some breakfast treats, usually a croissant for the next day, I often take something home for my husband and me to share.

Sadly I have to take off one star because of the guy at the cash register. I do understand Covid protocol's and I abide by all of them. But come on, I believe that you are a manager or possibly the owner. You really need to change your attitude. There is not one reason to be thoughtless or unkind when speaking to anyone, especially a customer. Why so brash? Smile, tell the customer in a different tone of voice what you need to say. Please, the last thing anyone needs right now is to feel offended and to not be treated with respect! 🙏
I'm only asking you to try a little harder. Although I don't live in the area, I have visited both of the locations and the food is incredible! I'm hoping along with several other customers that have experienced the same behavior, that the next time we visit it will be a lot nicer experience at the cash register. Stay calm, cool and collected. Everyone has something going on in their lives. We are all there to eat good food, drink coffee and tea, and just to relax. Make everyone feel special when dining at Bob's Well Bread. The waitstaff do! Thanks in advance and I will be back for your awesome menu! Happy Holidays ! ♥️

On the first morning in our new (temporary) home in Santa Ynez, I walked about a mile to visit Bob's Well Bread, curious to try their artisan sourdough. As an amateur sourdough baker myself, I wanted to "check out the goods".
I started with the "Pain au Levain", which is their basic, naturally-leavened (i.e. sourdough), loaf. Bob himself manned the register, and when I curiously inquired as to which flours they used, he was gracious enough to tell me, and encouraged me to "keep on baking".
I came home, toasted up a thick slice, slathered it with Irish butter, and delightfully confirmed that Bob's "Well Bread" is indeed, well-bred - crusty outside, chewy inside, delightfully tangy, authentic sourdough.
And while the baked goods are excellent (try the canelé for a decadent treat!), the real treasures lie in the offspring of them - the menu items! We recently enjoyed a Sunday brunch, and my Mushroom Toast was a pleasant surprise, as much for the uncharacteristically moist, flavorful bisquit, as the rich, savory mushroom sauce that topped it - almost reminiscent of a Brazilian savory-sweet mushroom stroganoff.
We're spoiled to live within walking distance of an iconic SYV establishment, that surely inspires others to drive for tens, if not hundreds, of miles.

The French toast was the best I’ve ever had. Eggs Benedict was good but I felt the lemon taste was too strong. Finally, the guy who served us at the till was a bit short in how he spoke. The French Toast was so good I’m sure there are other amazing items on the menu.

Quick Summary
One of the best bakeries I've tried. Definitely worth the visit during your Solvang run

Food- 5 stars
We came a bit late for lunch so not all options were available

Croque Madame- this was so savory without being overbearing. Not overly greasy and salty; it was done perfectly. I would definitely order again

Gravlax platter- I was impressed by the pickled lemons, homemade cream cheese and creamy bagel. Enjoyed every bite of this

Canale- this was such a balanced pastry. Loved the unique crust that formed on the bottom of the pastry. not overly sweet; enjoyed every bite

Chocolate crossiant- similar trend as above. not overly sweet and heavy, pastry was moist and flaky

Service- 5 stars
They were pretty organized with their takeout orders. Was able to get our entire order in less than 15 minutes. Tables were cleaned and cleared relatively quickly as well

Parking
There's plenty of lot and street parking

Bottom Line
Fantastic food and service. Will be visiting again!

We’ve been going to Bob’s when we’re in the area for years, and went to Bob’s in Ballard for the first time today. After going to the original location yesterday, it was a pleasure to see the new spot. It’s quieter, more relaxing, and the attention to detail in all facets was better. It reminded us of when we first found the old location. Food came out warmer, butter is softer, tables are cleaner, everything was just perfect. We love stopping in and seeing Bob, and know that his attention to detail carries onto your food and service as well. Also, we’re vaccinated but still feel safer with the protocols they’re following at Ballard.

Nice location with patio dinning. My food was unimpressive. Croque monsieur sandwich was too toasty to the point of almost burnt edges and side salad was uninteresting. My friends sandwich was also mediocre. The servers very friendly and pleasant. I did not like the grumpy guy behind the register who over charged me and did not offer a receipt.

I am a local and was looking forward to having lunch at Bobs Well Bread. As we walked in we were met by a man at the register rudely say stand over there until this cash register is open. I was practicing 6 ft rule just moving out of the doorway. Then impatiently said are you ready to order I just had serious eye surgery so was struggling to read the menu. Then he said move to register two so I can serve the next person please thank you rudely. The sandwich was ok but the experience completely ruined. Not just bad customer service blatantly rude.

We’ve been going to Bob’s Well Bread in Los Alamos every time we drive from SoCal to Solvang or the central coast for quite some time. Their food is amazing and the food at the Ballard location is just as good if not better. It’s exciting to have a location close to Solvang and Santa Ynez to go to without having to drive to Los Alamos. Okay, time to get to the reason for a two star deduction. The servers were pleasant but the guy running the register is extremely rude and abrasive. I grew up working in a family restaurant business for 15 years of my life and I studied food and beverage hospitality in college so I know how difficult food service can be but this attitude is inexcusable to me. I don’t know if he is the manager or an owner, and it doesn’t really matter, because he needs to take some notes on customer service or stick to the back of the house. It was not one encounter, there were three rude encounters in one visit. The main occurrence was after we ate we had gotten back in line because we wanted to purchase some bottles of wine, mugs, and to look at some other merch from the tables. My girlfriend and sister went to use the restroom while I waited in line. While I was next in line they were gathering the items we wanted to purchase and they got kicked out of an empty store and put everything back despite me being ready to checkout and up next in line. The guy couldn’t have cared less, I asked if they could come back in and tell me what they were going to get to which I was given an exasperated sigh and was told to “make it quick.” I said to forget it. The store was empty, there was no crowd and no other customers inside. A $100 merch purchase probably doesn’t matter as the place is always packed, but I would consider not returning, especially to this location, in the future just based off the poor attitude.

Food was great. Service not so much. That's why I gave them 4 stars. Friend ordered a sandwich to go and they brought her the wrong one. At first they said she would have to order it again and pay for that one as well. Wow! I wouldn't allow it. Waitress argued until I asked for the manager. When he came and heard the problem it all changed. He brought her the sandwich she ordered, no charge.

Ballard Bob's Wellbread is just as amazing and delicious as Bob's Wellbread in Los Alamos, (little LA). Only that the energy is different and I appreciate that slower paced come hither that Bob created here. Nestled inside the little town of Ballard, literally on a backroad to someplace else.

I always order his homemade lemonade, it has a nice bite with a sweet finish. I always recommend the Avocado Toast if you are new to the experience, the bread is cut thick and the avocado smash applied generously smothered with toasted pumpkin seeds, sprinkled with chili pepper, and a dash of coarse cut sea salt, the flavors blend and create a savory mid afternoon snack that lasts well into the evening.

Pro tip - carpool, parking is limited.

Sooooo tasty and unique! The kouign amann is to die for .. we also had the croque madam, pate, meatball sandwich, italian chop salad and the Reuben, all of which were excellent! Owner was so sweet and the staff is incredibly helpful. I alsed what was in the grandma dressing that comes with the Rueben because it didn't look like traditional russian dressing (a good thing in my eyes) and the server came back with a complete list of ingredients! It was also very tasty... Wish we had one closer!

I have been driving 17 miles to Los Alamos to Bob's location there. I was thrilled to hear that a new spot 10 miles closer, in Ballard, was opening. This is a truly great bakery. Bread, croissants, scones, and savory pastries are marvelous. Breakfast and lunch food are also really good. I go there at least once a week.
