We ordered the beef & lamb gyro, Greek salad with falafel and falafel wrap. The falafel was so hot, fresh and crispy—some of the best we’ve ever had! Service was friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to return!

Sumac is a good place to try. I ordered the beef and lamb gyro and it was very good. They gave 2 hot sauces which were nice to try. Staff were friendly, however they forgot to give me cutlery and napkins.

Comfortable atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating. Good size portions especially the wraps - the beef/lamb gyro was seasoned perfectly. The lamp chops were also seasoned well and grilled to perfection. They have alcohol, beer & wine in addition to soft drinks, tea and coffee. The chicken, shish and kofta kebabs were also tasty; and the hummus was yummy! The tl;dr is great food, low prices.

Vegetarian / vegan wrap perfect for Good Friday. The Turkish double espresso was delicious and not gross like the bitter American roasters. I got fries, but did not realize lentil soup is on the menu. Next time. Operated by family, doesn’t get better than that.

Definitely a family, comfortable atmosphere. Friendly and they take care of you. Food was good with great service. A few pieces of my meat were on dry side but sauce and salad and hummus were awesome. Wish we had left room for baklava. Also wish there was more room for additional restroom.

Our favorite spot! Chris and his dad are the kindest people and make us feel special every time we come in. The food is delicious as well. We love the lentil soup, especially with lemon and hot sauce. The wraps are delicious, or if you want to share we recommend the kebab feast. All the meats are incredibly juicy and tender. The metropolous shrimp dish is tasty and filling as well. I haven't tried anything here I haven't loved!

We are from out of town and hosted a destination wedding rehearsal dinner. Contacted Sumac to deliver food to our hotel for the event. I've never had such an efficient, professional, friendly customer service response. The food was AMAZING and they were the easiest part of our event planning! So grateful. Highly recommend.

Friendly service, scrumptious food served exactly how I asked (omitted onions and added extra sumac) and fair prices. We ordered Greek salad w/chicken and a plate with gyros. Oh, and tzatziki with pita. Their tzatziki has chunks ( instead of grated cucumber, which we’re used to, just a heads up.). We devoured every drop. We dined in and the staff checked in with us during the meal, bringing extra pita bread and napkins as needed.
Atmosphere inside is a narrow, small space made of brick with a cool breezeway. We are comfy enough to stay and see if the Mets can mount a comeback vs the Dodgers in the NLCS.

I don’t often go out for lunch but when I do, Sumac is my to go place.
Love the service they provide and the food is delicious! Creamiest hummus in town. Falafel is moist and full of flavor. Salads fresh and juicy.

I ordered catering for a birthday party, and I couldn’t be happier with the service. Chris was incredibly nice and easy to work with, helping me choose the right menu items and making fantastic recommendations. I needed the food by 10 am, which was earlier than their usual kitchen hours, but Chris promised to deliver it as early as possible, and he did! The food arrived at 10:35 am, which worked out perfectly as the guests had just arrived.
Everything was delicious! The chicken skewers were gone in minutes, with the kids choosing them over pizza and fries.
I highly recommend this place, not only for catering but also for grabbing a great burger, falafel, baklava, and more during the day. Great food and service all around!

Visiting from Fl and stopped in here for dinner. We were immediately greeted by a very friendly guy. There were 5 of us and we had the lamb chops, Kefta, Falafel, chicken skewer, babaganoush, hummus, Greek salad, rice and fries. Everyone raved about how good their food was. All of the guys working were very attentive, filling our drinks and coming by to make sure we had everything we needed. We loved Sumac and hope to come back again before we head home. 5 stars. Highly recommended. Oh and the cleanest bathroom we have come across yet! There is a actually parking behind the building, which was great. Our 5 year old loved the chicken kebab and ended up eating his sister’s too.

A casual Palestinian eatery. It is on El Camino and has its own parking lot. When we went on a weekday for lunch, there was plenty of parking. You can see the smoke and smell the grill meats from the parking lot. The friendly owner recommended the combination plates where you can pick your own protein and three sides. The beef and lamb Shawarma was a bit dry but the serving size is huge. I had hummus, baba ghanoush, and tabbouleh side dishes, all very delicious. The owner claimed they have the best falafel in the country. he wasn’t joking when I tasted one. The outside was crispy and crunchy, and the inside was soft and flavorful, definitely one of the best falafels that I’ve had. Next time, if I come back, I will definitely orders some falafels as the protein. Their grilled chicken Kebab or Shawarma seemed very popular too - many other guests were ordering that. Price was reasonable for the area.

I’m Palestinian and I usually don’t go to Middle Eastern restaurants because I know they’re not the same as homemade but when I tried Sumac Mediterranean I was truly amazed. The quantity that you get and the quality is excellent. It taste just like I would make it at home. I definitely would go back again.

Oh my goodness, this place is wonderful! I recently went vegetarian, so am looking for new versions of my favorite dishes. And this is definitely a new favorite—I built my own plate with falafel, hummus, Greek salad and tabouleh, all OUTSTANDING. The pita, rice and tahini were similarly outstanding, as were their desserts.
For Vegetarians or non, highly recommend. this place will be one of my new regular haunts…❤️

A great local place to dine in. The food is delicious and family that runs this restaurant provides AMAZING service, we have a great time every time we come here. In the winter, it's cozy and warm inside. In the summer, there's A/C and an outdoor dining space as well. There's plenty of high chairs so we don't have to worry about not getting one.

We love the Mezes platter, Greek salad, and dinner plates with rice & meat. Baklava is yummy too!

Just had lunch here today with my family. Food was delicious and service was especially fantastic. Our waiter was an extremely amiable, generous, quick, and thoughtful young man. I’m afraid I didn’t catch his name but he was a tall bloke with glasses. My toddler son is usually picky but he inhaled the gyros, falafel, and rice. Would 100% recommend Sumac to all and sundry.

This place has hands down the best gyro platter I've ever had. My entire party was blown away, and I don't think there is a point to me describing it with words. You just need to come and try it yourself. They were also very careful and accommodating with someone in my party's allergies, which I appreciate. I was also impressed with the pricing, given that I've spent more elsewhere and left disappointed.

Sumac hit the spot while I was in the area on business. Lots of menu options clearly labeled for allergies and very helpful staff. The restaurant was clean and comfortable - I imagine they can get pretty busy for lunch but we were a little on the early side and it was perfect. Generous portions!

Usually when I go to a Mediterranean restaurants, the AC is off. But this place had the AC on. The food was really good. Kofta kabab was good. Gyro roll was great. The home style shawarma was awesome. Salmon however was ok. Hummus was great. The kids loved the falafel but there was too much garlic in it for me. We ordered a sumac special for dessert (baklava with ice cream). It was really good! Don't miss it.

There are lots of similar enough Mediterranean places, but this is one that really pulls it off. Head and shoulders above your typical med place.

I’ve recently discovered this hidden Palestinian / Mediterranean food gem. Hands down best gyro, hummus, babagannoush, kebab, falafel and shawarma in the bay! Easily the best falafel spot in the Bay Area. The falafel taste takes me back to the ones I had back home in Jerusalem and Ramallah. Prices are great and they are generous with their portions.The owner, his son and employees are super friendly and nice and the atmosphere is comfortable for a nice sit down lunch/dinner.I will definitely be back.

One of my favorite restaurants, genuinely underrated. My go-to is the lamb & beef shawarma wrap, baba ganoush, and falafel paired with either a Mythos or Almaza beer. The hosts are always warm and welcoming, I've always had a great experience here.

For an event I ordered catering from Sumac. Richard was incredibly easy to work with and very helpful with suggestions as my RSVP kept increasing. Very reasonably priced and the food is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend you get catering from Sumac, check out their website for the catering menu. Best Mediterranean in San Mateo. Best falafel in Belmont. Best hummus in San Carlos. Your guests will love it.

The food and service was fantastic! Great options for vegetarian as well as gluten free. Parking around the back, lots of space. I highly recommend you dine-in to enjoy it to it's fullest (and not give the extra fees to door-dash!). Thank you!

Tried the takeout and I really wanted to like it but everything was dry including the chicken kebab, gyro and rice. The little tahini sauce made it edible. Even the salad dressing tasted expired.

Food did not taste at a 4+ star level. Each dish tried lacked something. The baba ganoush tasted like something was rotten. Food was not fresh-fresh. Rice was slightly undercooked and tasted old. Meat was not hot and was slightly overcooked. Bread was bland. Water was good. Lentil soup was okay, but it was also lacking that special touch; the lemon helped.

2 condiment jars were brought out. One still had discoloring from contents of a previous item.

Customer service was good and service was quick.

3 star rating vice 2 to give benefit of the doubt for restaurant possibly having a bad day which would have been a 1 star were it not for customer service. Of note, I am used to eating very delicious fresh Mediterranean food specifically Greek and Turkish from the source.

The falafels are fantastic! Paired with the fatoush salad, mmm! My wife enjoys the tilapia filet and the other Chanimals get the shish plates. The hummus is also very good.

Welcoming, not too pushy with hard sell, food has always been healthy portioned and one thing they do is listen&follow thru when you request condiments, It's a huge disappointment when a restaurant misses up the whole order by simply forgetting to give u tiny container of sauce after u've stated at time of order a few times to please include.

Sat out in outside covered section. We had the Lentil soup, Gyro wrap, and Mezze Sampler. The bowl of soup was great and very large. The wrap was huge and fries were very good. Sampler was also very good - devoured everything but the dolma, which we didn't care for (good just not a flavor profile we like). Baklava was not as sweet as we were expecting. Would definitely be back.

Not sure how people are rating this restaurant so high... I had shawarma plater and chicken shawarma wrap, They were just normal chicken wrap sandwich which you can get from anywhere. It's not authentic middle eastern at all. Giving 2 stars bcz their hummus was not bad.

Fantastic food! Their baba ghanoush and falafel are the best I've ever had. Really enjoyed my vegetarian moussaka as well, the feta on the salad was so tasty, everything was delicious. Be sure to try their Mediterranean beers as well! The golden ale they had was particularly yummy. Oh and their baklava was great, too! Again, everything so good! Friendly folks as well. Very impressed and will be back.

We tried Baba Ganoush for the first time and loved it! The shrimp in tomato sauce over rice was delicious! And the guys working there were so welcoming, especially Luis our waiter! Very kind, attentive and good humored! I wish we lived closer so we could go there regularly!

I had the lemon garlic chicken entree for lunch was excellent. At first I thought the rice was bland because it is a vibrant, deep yellow that looks like it is all you need. Instead it is a perfect bass line for an addition like the funky lemon garlic chicken.

I also had a doppa, double espresso with my meal and it helped brighten by work day.

The falafels here are undisputed, the best you'll ever have. Burgers are just fantastic and a sea of flavors. Treat yourself to an almazza beer and enjoy!

This place has been a beautiful surprise. Welcoming Staff. Cozy and warm like a mediterranean house. The food is super delicious and flavored. The smells will have you come back for more. Ideal for a late night!

UPDATE:
We still call Sumac our go-to place for Mediterranean food! I have really enjoyed their shrimp kebab! The perfect amount of shrimp, rice, and hummus (if you get it). The hummus here is awesome - goes well with the pita bread that the entree comes with!

Sumac is our go-to place for Mediterranean food. Schwarma, gyros, kalai....I have not eaten a bad meal here. Parking can be a challenge, and their place is small. I think most people who eat here take out.

Absolutely fabulous food prepared by hand on site. I've never had such delicious falafel, and all of the other dishes were spectacular! Thank you!

It's really good and loved the interior even tho we had to take it to go. Would gladly dine in once the world resumes a semblance of normalcy. The shawarma is fantastic!

Fresh and crunchy Greek salad with a balanced light dressing that was just right. Falafel cooked to perfection. They have comfortable outdoor seating screened from the street too. Quite delightful!

Food was delicious and service was friendly and attentive. Just the right amount of choices to pick between. Cold beer and a patio with extended outdoor seating making it covid-19 friendly. Good value and looking forward to coming back.

Nothing special at all.
Portion size: Small/Medium Small ($16 kebab was very disappointing.)
Ingredient quality was mediocre.
Overall very disappointed in this given the positive reviews.
I rarely ever feel the need to leave a negative review, but given the price range and horrible way the food was put together and how it tasted just okay, I am spending the time to tell you not to order takeout from here if you can help it.
