This is a great little restaurant where you can watch the planes take off. It's a small airport, so no big planes are permitted. We came for breakfast and were not disappointed at all. The waitress was friendly, efficient, and anticipated all our needs. It's a little tucked away, yet a great little place that's been here for a long time.

This restaurant has been on my list of restaurants to try in Big Bear. I was drawn to it because of the location of it being at the airport. My husband and I decided that we should just go and see if we have found another Big Bear favorite.
We went for breakfast on a Wednesday around 9:00am. It was not crowded at all. There were only a few tables occupied and they all seemed to be of locals. We sat at a table near the window in the corner so we had privacy (not that we really needed it) and to be able to see the planes come in and out. We were here on a Wednesday so it turned out that we didn't see any planes land or take off while we were there. That was a disappointment but it was a weekday so not sure why I expected it to be busy.
So here's my review:
Wait staff: Very friendly and welcoming. One thing that caught my attention was that they both had dirty aprons on. Honestly I thought it was kind of gross but I always want/try to look past things like that. They were attentive and came back to ask how our food was and if everything was ok.
The food:
-My husband ordered the Barnstorm omelette with home fries. The omelette had cut up sausage patties, onions, peppers, mushrooms, Ortega chili and cheese. The home fries had potatoes with onions and peppers. The potatoes were cooked but not crispy. There were lots of peppers and onions in the mix. He also ordered the biscuits and gravy to go with it (you get a choice of toast or biscuits and gravy) He told me the omelette was average, nothing to brag about. The biscuits and gravy were "ok", not what he likes in a biscuit and gravy (He does like a good biscuit and gravy and this unfortunately wasn't it)
-I ordered the veggie omelette, hash browns and the biscuit and gravy. The omelette had tons of freshly grilled veggies in it including mushrooms, onions, zucchini, tomato and cheddar cheese. It tasted good but needed a bit more cheese and seasoning, in my opinion. Serving it with salsa could have made it more flavorful too. In hindsight I should have asked for some. The hash browns were cooked crispy and were good. The biscuit was not like a biscuit at all. It was more cake-like (without the sweetness). The gravy didn't taste homemade, wasn't very flavorful and only had a few chunks of sausage in it.
All in all it was an OK experience. I have heard that their burgers are pretty good and I might try this place again on the weekend for a burger and to watch the planes come and go. However, for now I will just cross it off my Big Bear restaurant "bucket list".

It’s a little hole in the wall restaurant but we heard about it from TikTok and it did not disappoint! The crab cake Benedict was excellent! My family also got the banana pecan pancake, French toast combo, and soup of the day which was a champagne mushroom. Everyone was full and happy with their food. Service was so nice and were attentive even while being busy.

This restaurant is located in the airport terminal. Parking is easy, and everything is located on the ground level. We enjoyed the large Chinese chicken salad and the Cobb salad at our window-side table. A small plane was preparing to leave, so we got to see it take off while we waited for our meal. This is a great place for breakfast and lunch, though we haven't been there for dinner. The food is always great as the chef has been there for years.

Here is another hidden gem in the San Bernadino mountains. Big Bear's airport has a great little cafe where you can get away from the tourists and have a great breakfast or lunch. We had Chicken Fried Steak! Great food, great service! Come up and check it out. You might see a great lite aircraft fly in while you are there.

Nice enough guys took our order and delivered food, but overall this place is below average. Our Diet Coke was almost see-through and tasted like a actual dirt/soil. Not watered down, but funky. We sent it back. The glassware was dirty with bits of food on it, the Cole Slaw had an unlikable and untraditional flavor and the rest of the food was a C+ at best. Overpriced to boot.

This place absolutely rocks! Weve eaten dinner here, and it is great, but for me, their breakfast is the best in Big Bear. Besides the awesome view of panes landing & taking off from Big Bear airport, the owner & staff are tremendous. My recommendations for breakfast are the crab cakes benedict, blue berry stuffed french toast, and the chicken & waffles. Simply delicious!

Wheelchair accessibility: Very flat, easy to get into and out of.

Normally when i have to walk past the bar to get to the dining area it is a minus but the bar is nice, the bartender was cheerful and nice, the bar clean and bright, the paint colors attractive and the music pleasantly ecclectic. Put me in a Good mood for food delivered fresh, delicous and generous with options mostly upgraded comfort based but my corn salad was deliciouslysatisfying and most healthy!

This was the place we decided to go to when all three of us were looking for different kind of food ! The extensive menu here was absolutely suitable to our liking ! My husband got the Salmon Benedict, I got the Salmon Salad and my mom got the Tuna Salad. All three dishes were delicious and filling and the staff was kind enough to offer extra condiments when asked. We ended our meal with a delicious apple pie and man was it worth it ! Hot pie crust, cinnamon covered apples, vanilla ice cream and whipped topping ! The perfect end to a perfect meal!

It s worth flying into Big Bear just to try the Barnstormer Restaurant. It s a wonderful dining facility right at the airport. It s a favorite for breakfast, lunch or dinner. In the winter time they clear the snow off the runways very quickly. In the summer months density altitude is a serious consideration. You can get a table by the window and enjoy the ambience of the small town airport in the mountains. The food is always great. .

Would come here again.

This place was disgusting. The food was bad AND the service was terrible. One plate had a dark black hair in the food and they didn t even apologize, they literally said oh and picked up the plate and took it away. Didn t replace it, didn t refund us, didn t apologize, as if it s a regular occurrence. Steer clear and just wait for another restaurant that has a long wait.

I asked how many slices are you getting for that price? She wasnt sure, but thought about 3. Ok, I splurged. And ordered the bacon crispy. Long story short, 1 piece of bacon and was barely cooked. Substituted sweet potato fries for the regular fries that came with the burger. $4.99. At keasg they were cook properly. Dont go here...

The Barnstorm is one of our go to places while in Big Bear. We started going so that our kids could have a good experience watching the aircraft take off while we were having a meal. First time we went, food was amazing, host was amazing, it was a great experience. Subsequent times, though not bad, do nor rival that first experience. Most of the time the food is great, sometimes it is just good. Hard to judge when you are going to have a great experience of just a good one. Definitely the people make a difference in your experience. Give it a go.

Way overpriced for the portions $14.99 for a basic sandwich, $3.99 more to substitute shoestring French fries for really small side salad.. .. But nice view of the airport..
Published at 3 years ago
Good food, nice waitress, way overpriced. 2 orders+a side of extra bacon was around $50, the extra side of bacon was $7, and no, it s not super tasty yummy fancy bacon, it s just regular bacon that you can get from any place. The only good thing about this place is the view, you can look through the window and see the airport runway but really why would you pay that much just to see planes going up and down? And when the window seats are all packed, you are stuck in the inner side of the restaurant which you don t see anything at all.

But the service was quite slow, even though we ordered takeout ahead , we ended up spending there about an hour, waiting for various things ( including coffee, which they initially forgot to add to our order)

The food arrived about an hour later. I ordered the surf and turf and my steak was sent back as it arrived well done instead of medium rare. My wife s prime rib arrived cold and was sent back. Her reordered prime rib was so tuff, she reordered a different menu item. No complementary desert or a discount on the bill was given. We will never go back.

The food was pretty good, But the owner is kind of strange lady. She goes around to the tables and wants to talk to everybody right in the middle of your meal. Whatever you do don t complain because she has a temper and she can t take any criticism. The waitress doesn t speak very good English, when I paid my check my bill was for $13 and I gave her 20 and she never came back I guess she thought she got a 50% tip. So I called her on it and then she gave me my change and she gave me a five and a couple of ones then I said why didnt you give me more ones so that I can leave you a better tip anyway the owner said I m the one that made the change and so I said well you should give more ones that way people have more options when they are leaving a tip. Then she lost her mind and started flipping out and started saying I m through with you, I m through with you. She said that like four or five times, so I said that s nice and I left but I just thought it was really inappropriate for an owner of a restaurant to act like that because I did not do anything except come up to get my change and say something like the waitress was good but she wasn t that good meaning I m not going to leave a 50% tip anyway I don t know if she took that wrong and thought I was criticizing her waitress, But she lost her cool and I thought it was inappropriate for a Owner especially after she told me how nice the people are up in big bear. I thought it was really awkward, And My overall impression was that the food was fine the place looks clean but the energy of the people is really strange. And in my opinion the people make the experience.

This Restaurant is a Gem hidden in the Big Bear Airport. The wait staff (Maria was our server) was super friendly, highly efficient and super friendly. The regular menu was a bit pricey, but the food was excellent, abundant and made to order. The kitchen was conscientious about food allergies. They have lunch specials that are flavorful, hearty and a good bargain. Seating inside the resturant gives diners front row seats to the runways and all the Airport activities. A wonderful experience. Highly recommend and I will definitely return.

The mahi mahi was completely inedible. Overcooked and hard. The music was fine but over-loud for the space. Not worth the premium price.
