Kallans Bar And Grill

This was a little bar and grill outside the more touristy area of Big Bear lake. I’d considered this a dive bar, but they do serve food that was actually pretty good. The service was nice and our bartender/server was friendly and accommodating. It wasn’t too crowded, but they have plenty of seating as well as TVs and a pool table. The liquor selection is pretty limited, but they do have a range of beers, including some local brews. The food was pretty good too. We had the Caland burger and the hot national Asheville chicken sandwich. I like the burger better, but they were both pretty tasty. They ran out of fries, but made salads instead, which was a lot better than I expected. Overall, if you want to get away from the touristy part of Big Bear, make your way over here for ann off the strip dive bar experience.

Stopped in for the first time today. There were five of us. we sat on the upper level. service was a bit slow but the food is excellent. The burgers are tasty and my brother‘s club sandwich looked wonderful. he said it was wonderful. Just a nice, comfortable place to sit and chill for a while, the prices are moderate. They have Coors light and 805 on tap. We will be back soon.

First time visiting Kallans Bar & Grill , it was great. Greeted by a friendly staff member & took or drink orders right away. We order some wings & nachos which were great sharing portions as recommended. Great customer service, delicious food & a good atmosphere 👌

I had my service animal with me, lady that works there was smoking a cigarette and requested all my paperwork, to which is totally illegal. We were just about to get some food for take out. Not coming here ever again.

If you’re in the area, totally worth stopping in and checking things out :)
Great staff, bartenders, and the people who come here are totally themselves. I came up here with my friend from OC and made acquaintances with not only other visitors from OC, but locals in Sugarloaf and travelers from out of state! My parents who are in their 50s and 60s love this place too, as it’s stumbling distance from their cabin

Worst restaurant experience. We were not locals. They were busy and told us to seat ourselves but then forgot about us. After patiently waiting, we checked with staff who told us to continue waiting. Meanwhile people walking in were being seated. After 2 whole hours they finally took our order, and at that point, we told them we would take the food to-go. When the food finally came out, they didn't even bother handing it to us until we asked for it. We spent 2.5 hours there before walking out with our order. All this is to say, if they are busy and don't know you, they will ignore you while tending to their buddies.

Went here last night for my bday. My bf and I are not locals but we do watch for locals and see where they go. We noticed our first night driving in this place was absolutely packed. We decided the next night we would go there. Such an amazing decision. We got the western bacon burger(9.5/10) cowboy burger(8/10 rating by bf) and the Texas cheese fries(6/10) to share. Vibes are very local bar that they congregate at. I'd say if you visit here follow the locals lead and be chill. Wait Staff was lovely! Women's bathroom was clean. Prices very very reasonable!!!

Came in at 12PM to try to get some takeout but as soon as I walked in, the woman who worked here told me the cook wasn't in yet. Asked her when the cook would come and she said she's been trying to reach him all morning and doesn't know when he'll come in. The lady I spoke to was very nice, but I figured since this was one of the only restaurants near here and its lunchtime that there'd at least be some food available. Might come later and update my review, but this is it for now. Btw, road conditions are great right now so that's not the issue!

Food was good. Had western bacon cheeseburger, the sauce and onion rings were awesome. Hubby had Mile high club sandwich, said bread was good but quality of meat could have been better. Also ordered the grilled chicken salad for tonight, so no opinion on that except it looks good. Bartender never approached us after we ordered, even though I did inquire about if they had Jameson. Stood at end of bar to get something to drink while waiting on our food and the bartender never came back to ask what we wanted to drink. When we finally sat at the table waiting for food to be done, the Bartender then went to end of bar to talk with other patrons. I have lived here since 1992 and I used to love going for a drink and good food at the Sugarloafer. Kallans has always had decent food but their service is very much lacking. Knowing this I called 4xs to order Togo and no one answered phone. After going in and telling bartender we tried to order over the phone but Noone answered. She said maybe phone wasn't plugged in. So I tried calling in the restaurant and the phone rang no issues. While waiting for our food the phone rang and she didn't even attempt to answer it. There were 6 people at the bar and one table who was almost done when we arrived. It still took 30mins to get our food, and not to be acknowledged by the bartender and Noone else came in after us. Such a disappointment!!! AND IT WAS FREEZING INSIDE!!!!

We visited Kallans during our recent trip to the area. It was a Thursday night and the place had great energy with football on multiple TV's. While the place was packed, Isabel was always cool and went above and beyond to serve us. We shared a salad along with the chicken cheesesteak with a side of fries. Both were amazingly good. We will be back...soon!

We walked to this quaint little restaurant/ bar from our rented cabin and were delighted to find such a hidden gem. The food was excellent and so reasonably priced. The drink menu is really creative and also priced well. Lastly, we really enjoyed the Karioke Night. Definitely worth checking out!!

Neighborhood watering hole. Lots of locals. It's the only place to eat in Sugarloaf.
I liked their grilled chicken salad on my last visit.
The fish tacos were too spicy for my taste, and I normally love hot. The cold beer helped, and their mixed drinks are very strong.
I enjoyed the outdoor patio last summer.👍👍 Not sure if it's coming back after Covid.
Pool tables, karaoke, and DJ at night.
I recommend going in the daytime with the family to eat as It is a bit rough around the edges in the evenings. More drinking than eating.
I decided to go back and added an extra star to my rating as they no longer have the bouncers that were there picking fights on my previous visit. 👍

Fire the waitress/bartender with fake eyelashes. She is the problem of the restaurant with horrible service. Seems like we weren’t the only one suffered from this woman. Food was good though. Again, fire the lady and it will make the restaurant hundred times better.

The beer was flat. The bar maid had an attitude up to the time of asking for check. The pitchers are 1/2 pitchers sold as full pitchers. Two pitchers and one was 1 1/2 beers short . The other 1 beer short. No discount offered. No tip. Sorry to say.

Service was very attentive and quick. Fried zucchini was the food highlight for me, veggie burgers and fries were pretty decent. There's not much else around this area so glad it was open. Someone got thrown out of the bar a few minutes after we got there so that was exciting. Also played a game of pool but I'd stay away from the cocktails (mine was extremely sweet/syrupy).

My husband and I tried to go here for dinner and a beer on Wednesday night at 7:30pm (on August 30th) but they were already closed although they posted that they are open until 10pm. Thankfully we didn’t have to drive too far to get there since we live in Big Bear City near Paradise Way. If we had driven from Fawnskin or Boulder Bay we would have been much more upset. I suggest you call first before going here. We ended up driving to Jersey Mike’s to get a sandwich for dinner. Kallans missed out on our current and future patronage and I don’t know if we will try to go there again. It could have ended up being our local place to hang out along with a lot of our retired friends in the neighborhood. We had intended to spend over $100 just on food for the two of us. Who knows how much we would have spent on alcoholic drinks. Now we know why it isn’t!

Advocado bacon burger was $17 + $3 more dollars to get onion rings instead of fries, +5.50 for a side salad, and another $4 for the Shirley temple I got to go. The burger had condiments on it at all which made this premade frozen patty burger taste like I was eating a spoonful of cinnamon...then when I drove back to get mayo the super sweet server girl I met the first time shows her true colors and is extremely rude/short and proceeds to charge my card again 89 cents for the mayo that was never even put on my burger to begin with (keep in mind this was charged to my card seperately on top of the $30 meal that was already charged onto my card the first time I was there)

Would have love to have try this place out but we showed up on the wrong so understaffed I felt bad for the girls. Karaoke way to loud couldn’t even hear the others at the table. Waited a long while then went to bar same thing there. So we just left. Bummer

Horrible experience last night. Blaring karaoke through out the bar. Wait stuff was completely disorganized and rude. We came in and sat down in the bar area to order some foods and drinks and no one would come up to take our order. A large party came in after us and immediately got service. When we went to the bar and asked to order drinks and food we got an attitude.

I’ll never go back here with my family again. Beware. Locals are mostly the ones getting service.

Great place to warm up after a long day if skiing. My dad and I came here after a snow storm and we were absolutely soaked from the slush. We went in ans ordered pastrami sandwiches. They were delicious, best I've ever had. 10/10 establishment, you all should go!

Quite place. Mostly high tables and chairs. One pool table. I had the Black N Blue Burger with blue cheese, and the patty was big, and all the ingredients seemed fresh.

I really thought highly of this place before trying it, I was wrong for thinking it would be a pleasant place to eat or drink. I went in and every single waitress ignored me except one and she couldn’t even give me my food at a timely manner. Considering all of the food in one area ready to be served it just sat there. The couple that came in after me got their food before me… terrible service and really lousy food. Avoid if you can. There are plenty of take out options or restaurants near the village.

We went 3 days in a row since there are no other restaurants in the area and every day they literally said they forgot about us, so tonight we got there at 3:00 for a late lunch and didn’t get our food until 5:00 never checked in on our table and waitresses are just talking to each other. They said they were going to give us a discount (and never did) and apologized the first time, second time, and then finally the third night we were over it. We will go out of our way to never come to this place ever again even though it’s down the street from us. WORST service I’ve ever had. I recommend never eating here unless you have multiple hours to kill to get food for two people.

This was a nice Bar and Grill. The inside could have had the heater or fire place going. It was quite cold inside and we were wearing full jackets due to the fact it snowed while we were there. It wasn't very busy inside and the service was a bit slow. That being said the waitress did take good care of our table. The food took a bit longer than expected to come out nearly 30mins. But the cook definitely impressed as everyone's food was amazing. I had the western bacon cheeseburger. I hope the next time around it's warmer inside and we have a bit faster service. Then I would have no problem giving them 5 stars.

If I could give this 0 stars I would. The woman at the door (ash blonde hair and blue eyes) essentially told my party and I that although Yelp states that this restaurant closes at 11, they actually “close at anytime any night based on judgement.” Kallans doesn’t not seem like an inclusive and nice place, at all. If you’re coming from out of town, I do not recommend. Do not visit this restaurant. Do not waste your time.

Dined in on a Wednesday night. Staff was very welcoming, kind, and helpful. They were quick to anticipate all of our needs. The food was delicious and came out quickly. The fries were spectacular!!! The margaritas are also HUGE and only $9…incredibly worth it. 10/10 recommend! Very cute environment with a jukebox and pool table.

OMG，TERRIBLE SERVICES!!! My friend was feeling a little under the weather and wanted to sit a little longer, but a waitress just kicked us out. UNBELIEVABLY MEAN!! We paid for the meal and tipped more than 18 percent. What kind of restaurant do you run with that attitude? If you want to have a great time in Big Bear Lake please don't come!

Was with friends for my first visit, my food was dropped in the kitchen, so everyone ended up eating in front of me, waited a good amount of time with no offer to remedy the situation, then my burger and fries come out and the fries are not hot. WtH. They wouldnt even comp the completely screwed up meal. I took the burger to go. They could have offered a free beer or something. ? Not my fault they messed up.

Overall it was a good experience. The mini corn dogs and fries were probably the highlight. I would not recommend the side salad as it was a quarter onion. The onion rings were pretty tasty, but the bacon on my BLT was like jerky. The burgers are very good.

Its a classic spoorts bar. Not really suited for the under 21 crowd but maybe before 7? Still, the service is good, prices are fair and the fare is very good! The burgers are excellent, love the onion rings, the salads are big enough to share. I also love the wings. The garlic Parmigiano are excellent. Just wish thay had carrots and celery.ice the homemade Blue cheese and Ranch dip. A locals favorite 😍

The best burgers around. They really have a great char on the patty without over cooking. I love the burger from hell. It is definitely spicy, but still super tasty. Their wings are also always a crowd favorite. Great selection of beers and a few TV's for sports. Be patient since it can get busy and service can back up, but they really are attentive and keep the drinks coming!

Walked in and right past the server who didn't even acknowledge us. Sat at one of the available high top tables by the bar and still no aknowdgement from any staff. I made eye contact with a server and smiled, but they just looked away.

Sat at the table for about 10 min as servers helped the tables around us, but nobody said a word to us. Just a simple "hi" or "be right with you" would have been nice. At this point we didn't fell very welcome and didn't want to wait any longer, continuing to be ignored.

Maybe it's because we aren't locals? I live right down the hill and frequently drive up to get away from the heat. I definately won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend this bar to anyone else.

Maybe the food and drinks are good, but we never had the chance to try.

Local bar in sugarloaf. Food is pretty good for bar food. I recommend the fried pickles for appetizers and lamb sandwich for main course. On Fridays enjoy the fried beer battered cod! Oh, and don't forget a cold draft beer.

My wife and I love this local hangout. I like “The Burger from Hell” with the Jalapeños and my wife likes the burger with Pineapple. Music and atmosphere are good too

I went in this place approximately 2 months And I ordered a BLT ! ITS WAS THE FATEST BLT N SOO GOOD !! Went in today for a BLT And it was THIN N LOTS OF BUTTER FROM GRILLING THE BREAD ! ??? I'LL NEVER GET FOOD FROM THERE AGAIN !! U WOULD HAVE 2 BE DRUNK TO ENJOY THERE FOOD :(

Fun welcoming bar! Visited while on vacation a few days and had a blast. I even got to embarass myself a little doing karaoke. Thanks for the lively spirits/energy and redbulls before my drive to Tucson.

Located in Sugarloaf, Big Bear Valley. Had always been a favorite hangout. The otr customers are great, drinks r strong. Full bar.

First time coming here since our getaway cabin purchase and I will say this place is just like it says “bar & grill”. However I will have to say their burger & fries was definitely one of the best I have enjoyed in quite sometime. It was a bar atmosphere with their regulars but their service was excellent. I look forward coming here to try out other menu items as well as their beer

Had a Ice water and Salt shaker with a pick up Game, then came back 20 mins later for a sampler plater and shared a pint of something fruity.
Made my face all warm and tingly.
Smoked a few cigars out front, sang some songs then called it a night and went to the local park.

This place was the best! We visited from San Diego with a huge group and the servers and DJ were SO cool! Super friendly and laid back and the food was SO good- you can tell it was well-made. We’ll definitely return when we come back to Big Bear to visit!
