Chubby Sushi & Ramen

How have I lived in Brea and not heard about Chubby Sushi until this week? This place is a feast for the eyes and the tummy. Everything we ordered Was prepared, so fresh, and so stunning in presentation that we could not wait to devour each item. We ordered three sushi rolls—chubby roll,Rainbow roll,
Hokkkido roll (spelling) we also ordered a lunch special with tonkotso (pork broth) ramen (too good), glazed salmon, and a salad. The salmon stole the show as did the Chubby Roll. We will probably be back tomorrow. I will see this lunch in my dreams.

wow, did I just find my new favorite sushi and Ramen spot? Today I was in Brea for work when I came across Chubby sushi and Ramen. I went with some friends and we ordered a bunch of things oysters, yellowtail, Nigri, and a bunch of different sushi rolls they were all delicious. The Customer Service was great and all the food came out fast. Everything tasted so fresh and they get fish in daily. I’m so happy I found this place next time. I’m in Brea I will come back 100%. I definitely recommend this place to everyone.

Ok you guys, I think I may have just found the best new sushi spot that's delicious AND affordable. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, and I love that this place branches out a bit from your usual traditional sushi fare with dishes like bone marrow shots.

Attention to detail is impeccable here, and each bite is like a work of art. The seared bluefin tuna with asparagus is a must-order, and some of the best karaage chicken I've ever had.

Don't sleep on this hidden gem in the heart of Downtown Brea!

Their sashimi and rolls are so fresh!! Service is friendly and fast. Becoming my fav sushi spot!

We ordered :
- chubby sashimi ( toro, bluefin tuna, salmon, scallop, sweet shrimp, etc ) the cuts are thick and literally melt in your mouth
- sashimi salad
- chubby roll ( recommend )
- karaage ( fried chicken- so crisp!! )
- tai fish with caviar- so good!

Inside decors are cute as well- I think it’s a cat fish theme.

Located in downtown brea, there’s parking behind the restaurant but limited- but there’s another parking structure across the street

What phenomenal lunch @chubby.brea! I am still in awe of the quality of the sashimi and sushi here. It was definitely worth the drive. Now I know where to get premium sushi in Downtown Brea. The sashimi was so tender and melts in your mouth. I loved the fresh grated wasabi to add to the sashimi, which gives an extra kick. It surely elevates the fish. Here's what we got.

Is a great place to have lunch with coworkers. It is not authentic taste for Japanese food but sure taste delicious. I would say is more of Japanese-Chinese taste. The lunch special is good portion and delicious. My favorite is the Soyu ramen. Their sashimis are very fresh too.

As someone who can’t have rice merin/wine in their food, these people always lied and said they don’t use merin sauce for so long. I always called and asked and they said we don’t use it . Until one day I talked to the manager and they said they do use it. I don’t understand the desperation for money or whatever there motive was to get orders . So disappointed

I am writing to express my disappointment regarding the service I received during my recent visit to your restaurant.

I ordered yellowtail, but albacore was served instead. I pointed this out to the server and asked, “Is this yellowtail?” The server simply responded with “I am not sure” and walked away without offering any clarification or resolution.

I then called another server, explained that I had ordered yellowtail, and they responded with “Maybe the yellowtail is missing.” However, they too left without addressing the issue directly.

Eventually, someone brought out the yellowtail nigiri, but this was after we had already finished our meal. Even at that point, there was no acknowledgment of the mistake or an apology for the inconvenience caused.

Additionally, throughout our meal, no servers checked on us, even though the restaurant was not busy and there appeared to be plenty of staff available. It wasn’t until I signaled for assistance to request a box that anyone came to our table.

This experience fell far below my expectations, both in terms of service and the handling of a simple order mistake. I hope you take this feedback seriously and address these issues with your team to ensure better service for future customers.

Fish was fresh but it's smaller than other's nigiri.
Comparing the price, well i won't come back.

I’m pretty happy that this place replaced the former overpriced ramen place (which was good, but insanely overpriced). Chubby’s quality in their nigiri omakase is pretty awesome (mainly the uni, toro, salmon). Was surprised how fresh those were, but I did have trouble with the texture of the sashimi omakase at times.

The regular tuna was quite weird and almost rubbery in texture, scallops had a weird aftertaste and a couple white sashimi that didn’t meet the quality of the other cuts.

I’ll definitely be ordering more in the future, but picking and choosing mainly the fattier cuts and uni as they are freshest and maybe some rolls.

wow, did I just find my new favorite sushi and Ramen spot? Today I was in Brea for work when I came across Chubby sushi and Ramen. One of our go to sushi locations since it's a nice clean location and decor is pleasing to the eyes. They have indoor and outdoor seating but they aren't too busy that outdoor seating fills up, at least the times we've gone we were able to get seating within 5 minutes of entering the place.

I like to try the stuff off their recommended and really like the master and rock n roll which are both good recommendations. The chubby egg and seaweed salad is also a nice appetizer to start with. There are specials on the black chalk board in case you want to order from there but I'll stick to the rec's for now.

Service is fast and pleasant and they check in just enough times. Parking is in the back but if it's full, you can park across the street in the large parking structure.

Wow, pork in Shoyu Ramen was awesome. Noodles are thick. Miso soup was super good as well as the crunch roll and hot green tea. All tasty and fresh. One of my fave new places!

We had the 20pcs sashimi set for $60. It has 3 tuna, 3 salmon, 3 yellowtail, 3 bonito, 2 snapper, 1 sweet shrimp, 2 scallops(4 slices), 2 chu toro, and 1 tamago. Tuna is good as well as the sweet shrimp. All others are just average. The chu toro is a bit fishy. Tamago? Really? Sashimi? The shrimp head miso soup was good though. The dining environment is clean and nice but I think both the value and quality of the fish still has room for improvement.

I think you confused me with other customers. We never requested to switch from UNI to Scallops as we don't even know there is UNI for this dish. It appears you have some miscommunication between the chef and your waitress. In this case, I will lower my rating for your service.

This is premium stuff!! Loved Chubby!

Their standout dish, the smoking sashimi platter, features melt-in-your-mouth bluefin tuna, known for its incredible flavor and freshness. We visited on ‘Fresh Fish Friday’ and got to witness their special imports come in!

Signature rolls like the Chubby Roll (salmon, bluetin tuna, yellowtail) and the Pink Lady Roll are absolute must-tries. We also enjoyed the Miso Ramen - super rich & savory ramen topped with tender chashu pork. If you like oysters, theirs are topped with caviar. We even got to try fresh bluefin tuna bone marrow!!

I was too hungry to take pictures but the food was amazing. I ordered volcano roll, the flavor was amazing and it was hot as well. Will definitely come back, the only thing I would say is it was really hot in here, they turned off the a/c or something but I'm here for the food.

My hubby and our friends enjoyed their fresh sushi. I really like their yummy tempura, caterpillar roll, dragon roll and really good Tonkatsu ramen, full of flavor👍👍👍 it’s a bit small; tight space & very crowded (probably because their food is yummy)😋

The service was perfect! Everyone was very attentive and friendly!

A great local ramen and sushi shop in OC. Definitely visit if you are local to Brea or Fullerton. I got their lunch combo and it was really filling. It was $17. I didn't think their ramen was any worse or better than other local ramen shops. Their tonkatsu wasn't anything special but it was very yummy.

I recently discovered Chubby Sushi & Ramen and decided to drop by because I am a die hard sushi fan. I will say, the ambiance of the restaurant is very peace-inducing, paired with the music made my experience very relaxing. The rice tasted fresh and of course the sashimi tasted great. The server was very kind and attentive to my family. Overall, my dining experience at Chubby Sushi was amazing.

I’ve been coming to chubby sushi for a long time as their prices are amazing and quality is even better! Unfortunately I had an odd experience on todays visit, My boyfriend and I got lunch specials which included ramen, nigiri, and gyoza. We paid then waited around a while for the recipe and change. When we asked for the receipt and change the (I’m assuming owner/ guy with glasses) started to stare and give us dirty looks. As if we said “keep the change”, we planned on giving a $8 tip but we wanted the receipt first as we usually leave it on the table in cash once we leave. We left the tip anyways and left.

The food was delicious, our servers were great! BUT maybe their AC wasn't working or.... They had it on but not low enough I don't know, I was melting and sweating as I ate. Couldn't really enjoy my dinner because I was so hot. ( And yes I did make it known to them that it was very hot inside)

our family came here starving and sad and left stuffed to the brim and happy. everything from the sushi, the poke, the ramen, and the rolls were fantastic. the staff was speedy and super kind and the atmosphere was nice too. i don't like it when tvs or music are loud enough to impede on conversations, and chubby sushi and ramen had none of that. 5/5 stars, definitely coming again 🤩🤩

Came here because of the excellent reviews here and I was left a bit confused. The atmosphere and service here is excellent, no problems at all. The food left my party quite disappointed. Tonkotsu Ramen lacked flavor, broth was a bit clear and the pork was not prepared flavored in any special manner. Eggs were sweet, which was a first for me. Fried chicken had the lightest of flavors, though the dipping sauce was quite good. Rolls were just ok, very basic in flavor.

I just didn't think the sushi here was very flavorful. Also, prices are a bit high (ended up paying $85 for picking up 5 rolls when all was said and done).

Edit: going to bump this down to a 2 since the leftovers tasted so bad that I actually ended up just throwing it away.

This place is wonderful, I was seated pretty quickly and my waitress was very very nice and patient. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. I enjoyed every second of my visit.

We had a party of 13 and were so impressed with the variety of food we ordered. We had chicken bowls, miso soup, various sushi rolls and ramen. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Jennifer was so polite and helpful in explaining items on the menu we we were not familiar with. This was the best sushi and ramen we have ever had. Wonderful restaurant.

Jennifer did such a good job with making us feel welcome and was very attentive to what our needs were. Drinks were always filled and the sushi came out very quickly. Very yummy, will definitely be back!

Great service and food. Seafood is fresh. Fresh wasabi was a delight too. Has outdoor seating but tables could be nicer instead of using plastic. A few nice wooden tables or something stronger would have been even more perfect.

Wow. I ordered pick up from here and this place is amazing. Their sashimi is SO FRESH. Everything was absolutely melt in your mouth. The quality is so high that you would expect this place to be $$$$. I will definitely be back and highly recommend this place. The crispy rice with tuna was great also. But do yourself a favor and order the sashimi!!

We went to celebrate a birthday and we had a nice time. We ordered several rolls and their beautifully presented sashimi tower. The service was awesome, the atmosphere was modern and relaxing. Our fave was the chubby ninja roll.

Great food, service, and atmosphere! The staff was super attentive and continued to check in on us, making sure we had what we needed and pricing recommendations. Food was also great - we tried some hand tools that were on the special menu, and the sashimi deluxe. Sashimi deluxe came with fresh, fried shrimp head which was my favorite. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nicely decorated and spacious- would be good for big groups!

The 10 pieces of chubby sushi offered us a delightful experience of premium quality. A must-try that's as simple as that. The fish and shrimp are incredibly fresh, melting in your mouth instantly. The chef's expertise and high standards are evident. We also indulged in one of their daily specials, the steam egg, which turned out to be possibly the best I've ever had. Alongside, we savored the fried oyster and fried chicken, complementing the great ambiance and warm service. A truly lovely evening for my wife and me, ensuring our definite return!

Best sushi I’ve had in So Cal. Great flavors, not drowning in sauces. Unique dishes and fantastic classics. Highly recommend the Bluefin special, oysters, and O Toro.

Excellent lunch. Everything was delicious and seemed to be made with a lot of care. The only nitpick is that the tonkatsu ramens chashu slice was not the best cut and a little plain compared to most ramenya, which this place is not.

Please note this is my first time experience, and review/rating is only indicative of the meal I had.

I'll definitely return, and I'll try sampling other items. I get the impression this is generally a five-star and look forward to updating my impression in the future.

Great little spot in Brea for ramen and sushi. The Japanese fried chicken was awesome. The Tonkatsu broth was full of flavor. Spicy tuna roll was fresh! Try it out. It won’t disappoint your appetite.

Literally everything I ordered was superb. I seated at the sushi bar & watched all the other plates come out..let me say all that looked amazing too. Compliments to the Chef! The staff was super friendly, lets not forget that. A++

We went here today and I can say the only disappointment was the ramen. The sushi was quite good, I really liked the Crunch Roll was the best one. In my opinion. My daughter had a plain chicken bowl which served its purpose, decent chicken with rice and teriyaki on the side.

I don’t judge too harshly on the Ramen, I’ve found that it’s hard to nail, so I tend to pin it against the best I’ve had. The pork slices were actually delicious and the soft boiled egg was yummy too.. the noodles and broth just didn’t cut it for me.

We’d go back again… especially when Brea has events!

Service is slow. Ordered the appetizer, which was overcooked. Sushi had too much sauce. 45 minutes later, we were still waiting for the ramen order. Ended up canceling the remaining order and leaving.

Went to their soft opening. We had the Spider Roll, Brea Roll, Master Roll and Tonkatsu Ramen. The ginger was delicious, and the wasabi was fresh. The flavors were on point and all the ingredients came together in one bite. The bluefin tuna was fresh and the shrimp tempura on the roll was still warm. The Ramen broth was rich but not over powering and the pork was thick but melted in your mouth. It also comes with veggies and egg so it worked really well together with the noodles. Will def come back!

I had the tuna and salmon mix poke. Everything tasted fresh and the poke had great flavor. The service is very friendly and fast! Garlic edamame is a must!

The food is so fresh and SO delicious. Servers have great attitudes and are super friendly. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great and food came out quick. The sushi rolls are just as good as they look on camera! Definitely favorite sushi restaurant by far. I’ll have to come back for their ramen and some of their appetizers!

I was just walking around with my girlfriend wondering what to eat for lunch. Then a nice woman invited us in to look at the menu. Sure enough we sat down and order our meals just to be amazed at the fresh ingredients they used in every dish we ordered. Definitely will be back soon hungry to try more of multiple options they have to offer.

This is a very good sushi restaurant. I passed by this restaurant with a few friends and came in to try it. I didn’t expect it to be much more delicious than I expected. The food is very firm and the ingredients are very fresh. I will definitely come back to eat next time
