I love how you can pick your own toppings (veggies, noodles, protein) for them to make into a bowl! I got the Mala tang which is a broth version and the soup was super flavorful and tasty! My friend got the stir fry version where she really enjoyed it. We also ordered the Rose Tteokbokki which was creamy and the rice cakes was perfectly chewy, it was enjoyable. I never had the strawberry jam green onion pancake, it was interesting and kinda grew on me the more I ate it. I love how the staff is so friendly and restaurant is a chic modern interior. I would come back again for their Mala tang!

Absolutely LOVE their Korean-style malatang! I used to visit the Pixiu Mala Hongtang location in Oakland all the time, and was so excited to see they also have one in Buena Park at The Source. I've been here a few times now, and have consistently had great experiences. Since it's located at The Source, there's plenty of parking in the parking structure.
I love the whole concept of this since you can customize your bowl with their bar of fresh ingredients, and the cost is based on weight. Personally, I like getting the spice level 2, because it's spicy but still delicious to where I can still really enjoy the flavor without being overwhelmed by spice. They also have a nice sauce bar!
Aside from the malatang, my favorite a la carte items to order are the masago rice balls and scallion pancakes. If you're visiting with family/friends, those are great options to order and share among the table.

If you're a picky eater like me, Pixiu Mala Hongtang is a must-try. The malatang here is by far the best I've had. You can build your own perfect bowl by adding a variety of fresh ingredients. The service is incredibly fast, and the staff is not only friendly but also attentive. One of the highlights of our visit was the mayo pancakes and sweet and sour pork, which made for great appetizers.
The restaurant is impressively clean, and it's clear the staff takes great care to maintain the space. I also noticed a previous review complaining about the peanut sauce, but I found it to be absolutely delicious... rich, nutty, and packed with peanuts, just as it should be. There really wasn't anything to complain about!
Lastly, our server was outstanding. One of the best customer service experiences I've had in a while. As an extra touch, the staff even offered us a sample of fried rice, which was a lovely gesture. Overall, Pixiu Mala Hongtang exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to return.

Cali is finally getting cold, and this Mala Tang was perfect for the weather! It was date night, and we were excited bc this was our first time trying Korean style hot pot.
Parking: The Source has a free parking garage. Plenty of parking and easy to find.
Ambiance/Environment: This spot is located on the second floor. We visited right before their dinner rush. It started getting busy between 6-8pm. They have a large space inside with plenty of seating. Perfect for all group sizes. Very clean and modern inside.
Service: Everyone was helpful and welcoming, but special shout out to Andrew! He was very knowledgeable about the menu and even gave us good recommendations. There was also a worker constantly walking around ensuring everyone was doing well. Overall, service was above & beyond excellent.
What to do: After a server seats you, take a look at the menu. Then get a bowl & tongs from the toppings bar and fill it up. Remember they charge per lb, and they do have a scale so it gives you an idea of how much you’re spending. Take your bowl to the register and choose whether you want Mala tang, Mala stir fry, or Mala pan. Choose your spice level. They’ll take your bowl and prepare your dish. Then they serve it to you.
Food & Drinks:
1) Mala Tang, med hot - I ordered this. I absolutely looove the broth! It had the perfect amount of spiciness. All the toppings I chose were delicious, and the beef brisket & lamb were cooked well.
2) Mala Stir Fry, hot - My bf ordered this, and I only took one bite bc this was veryyy spicy for me lol. The stir fry had so much flavor, and everything was cooked perfectly!
3) Sweet & Sour Pork - This was recommended to us. The pork wasn’t too chewy, and the outside texture was gooey. We never had anything like it, so it was a good different taste for us.
4) Rose Tteokbokki - Another dish that was recommended to us. This was definitely rich in flavor. The rice cake was cooked well and drenched in the Mala sauce. The dumplings & sausages were also delicious!
5) Milkis & Walovi - Some of my fav Korean drinks! Can’t go wrong with these classics. So refreshing!
Pricing: Definitely worth it $$$. These portions were HUGE, so they’re shareable.

Pixiu Mala Hongtang in Buena Park is truly a special place! I’m someone who usually can’t handle strong MaLa flavors, but their MaLaTang strikes the perfect balance—it’s flavorful without being overwhelming. The fresh ingredients and clean preparation make it an excellent choice even for first-timers. On top of that, the staff’s friendly service and the tidy, welcoming atmosphere added to the overall positive experience. I highly recommend this spot to anyone who’s hesitant about trying MaLa dishes!

is the latest addition to The Source’s vibrant food scene. Hailing from Korea, Pixiu Mala Hongtang is the first Korean-style malatang restaurant, offering both hotpot (with soup) and drypot with their signature mala blend—which is perfect for me and my friend! She loves soup while I prefer something more saucy.
The cool and exciting part about the dining experience is that you get to customiaze your dry/hotpot in a DIY bar! You get to choose all your favorite veggies, fishballs, noodles, ricecakes, meat, and more then conveniently weigh it out there so that you’re not surprised when you pay. Off to the side, there is a sauce bar so that you can make your own sauces with familiar ingredients such as green onion, cilantro, soy sauce, peanut sauce, and chili oil.
As for the actual taste of the food, I was pleasantly surprised! It was absolutely delicious!!! It was my first time having drypot and so I choose the mildest spice level to be safe. Everything was spicy + savory and the sauce perfectly coated all of my different types of noodles and other toppings. My friend who is a hotpot fan mentioned how the soup was amazing as well! We also tried the sweet and sour pork and tuna mayo rice balls. Overall, we were super impressed with this new spot and can’t wait to come back!

This is a Korean Chinese Mala soup restaurant where you weigh your ingredients in a bowl and they’ll cook it 2 different ways - you can have it as a soup or have it dry with cheese on top.
The soup here tastes very fresh and clean and I feel like I could eat so much of it. The best part is that I could order it without the numbing spice which I know is the point of the soup, but it’s still really nice without the Mala numbing spice.
The restaurant is super clean and I would definitely come back. Service is wonderful and it’s located on the 2nd floor of The Source.

This is one of the best place to get malatang. It’s priced by weight so meat and veggies cost the same. The process is very simple and it’s self instructed. They also have a sauce bar like in a hotpot restaurant that you can build your own sauce. Other Korean dishes are pretty good too, especially rose teokbokki. Very good vibes and a great place to eat in The Source OC.

Mala Tang is a traditional food from Sichuan Province, China. The name translated from Chinese pinyin - 麻辣烫。how can you advertise it Korean when it’s exactly the same with the one from China. Also, Pixiu is a mythical animal from ancient China too. How can you credit everything to your country when everything from you brand originated in China. Mala Xiangguo, Tanghulu are all traditional food from China. It’s never Korean food. Don’t be a theft. Oh, by the way, the picture from your website is not even a PiXiu. That’s a lion. Cultural appropriation, thank you.

It was our first time here & it did not disappoint! There are so many vegetable, noodle, & protein options to choose from. We ordered the malatang one medium & the other medium hot as well as the lemon cream shrimp. The shrimps were huge & yummy, paired really well with the spicy malatang. The broth was very flavorful & not overly spicy.
The server was super nice & attentive! The restaurant was cutely decorated for Christmas & was very clean! We will definitely be back.

If you are looking for traditional Chinese Malatang, this isn't the place. No "MA" numbing flavor at all. Understanding this is the Korean take but It shouldn't be called MAlatang if the first and foremost flavor is missing, call it KorLatang maybe. Food, broth and Condiment choices are lacking vs the competition, more pricey as well. Service was decent but they took away the condiment bar at 8:20 on a Sunday when ppl are still dining. Stick with YGF or Yintang for authentic Chinese Malatang

Pixiu Mala Hongtang was very yummy and delicious—the perfect type of food for cold weather. We tried both the stir-fry and the broth. I personally preferred the malatang broth over the stir-fry, but make sure to try both!
Parking wasn’t hard to find. This place is located at The Source, which has a parking structure. There’s plenty of seating and a nice ambiance. I would definitely come here to catch up with a friend or for a family dinner!

Pixiu Mala is a new addition to The Source, making a great meal for the cold weather. You grab a bowl and choose your own portion for veggies, toppings, and protein (beef or lamb). They have different level of spices for mala tang or mala stir-fry. We did 0.5 for mala tang and 1 for mala stir-fry. The price is by pound. Huge selection of fresh veggies and toppings! Their cheese and sweet potato rice cakes are a must get. They also have an a la carte menu, so we tried thenchili fried shrimp - crispy and flavorful. Love this concept of hot pot!

Korean Self Serve Malatang restaurant at the Source OC. The place is nice and clean. The service was kind and attentive. Grab a bowl, fill it up with meats, veggies, noodles, etc and take it to the cashier to weigh the bowl and you can choose soup or stir-fry option and spice level. I chose medium spice and it was spicy for me and cleared my sinuses, but it was a good spice level to start with if you like spicy. While they are cooking up your soup, go to the sauce station and make your sauces. I like that there were instructions with photos on the wall, in case you have no idea what you want in your sauce. The broth was slightly creamy and good. I filled the bowl to the top and it was about $20.

We ordered the mild Mala tang, cheese buldak, rose tteokbokki and scallion mini pancake. More than enough for 2 people. The portions are huge and the food is delicious! The sauces for the mala tang are separate from the area where you pick the ingredients so make sure to add those toppings and sauces for extra flavor. The mala tang was rich but not greasy at all. Very refreshing. Our favorites were the cheese buldak for the perfect combination of sweet and just a little spicy. The rose tteokbokki wasn’t spicy at all, the noodles are super chewy and the sauce is great. It comes with sausages cut like squids which is super cute! The scallion mini pancake is your typical one if you’ve ever had that before. Highly recommend everything!

I recently had an amazing experience at a pixiu mala hongtang restaurant that I can’t recommend enough! From the moment I walked in, the lively atmosphere and welcoming staff set the perfect tone for the evening.
The malatang was absolutely outstanding. With an impressive selection of fresh ingredients, I loved being able to tailor my bowl to my specific tastes. The spicy broth was a revelation—deeply flavorful with just the right amount of heat. Each ingredient, from the crisp vegetables to the tender proteins, was of the highest quality and cooked perfectly.
What really elevated the experience were the various dipping sauces available. Each one brought a unique twist that allowed me to enhance the flavors even further. The portion sizes were generous and the prices very reasonable, making it a great deal for such a satisfying meal.
This place is a gem for anyone who loves malatang or is eager to try something new. I’m already counting down the days until my next visit!

I recently visited this restaurant and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. What stood out to me was how clean the environment was and the friendly workers. They guide you through the process of selecting your ingredients and provide helpful suggestions on spice levels if you're not sure where to start. Whether you're craving a fiery, comforting soup or a milder version with plenty of fresh vegetables, this place delivers. One of the best parts about malatang is the level of customization. You can create a bowl that suits your taste perfectly — whether you prefer more vegetables or meat. The I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys bold, spicy flavors or wants to try something new. I'll definitely be returning soon!

Looking for a place to eat with the family and other spots had a wait. Stumbled upon this new spot at The Source Mall (located on the 2nd floor). If you’ve had malatang before then you’re familiar with the process- get a bowl and tongs and start to fill with your favorite items. They have a nice selection of noodles, vegetables and they have lamb and beef short rib. The advertisements in the front indicate this is a famous spot in Korea that has made its way here! There’s also a scale there so you can weigh the food yourself. I was happy to find the scale was tared to the weight of the bowl. Once you get up to the counter you select whether you want it fried or in a soup. We all picked soup and the spiciness level 0 is no spice and I went with mild (number 1) although I found that to be spicy too. Husband ordered number 2 level spicy and it was pretty spicy (for me). At the counter we also ordered a green onion pancake with mayo spread. SO GOOD we ordered a second one! Kids ate everything too! It was nice that they had hot menu items too to offer those that don’t want malatang. They have a sauce bar too so you can use to dip your meat/vegetables or add seasoning to your soup. The interior was simple, neat and most important clean! The staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful! You pay at the end of the meal- they will bring a card reader to you (Apple Pay is probably an accepted method). The best part was I noticed my bowl fell below the minimum weight/price and they did not charge me the full $16.99- they prorated the cost! Can’t wait to come back!!

Popular Korean mala tang finally opened this past weekend in OC. Was excited to try because they specializes in Korean-Chinese fusion with build your own hot pot concept. You get whatever fresh ingredients you want at the self serve bar. Then take it to the cashier to weigh your bowl in which you can decide you want soup or stir fry and level of spiciness. Also you can opt for Chef’s Choice for a set price too. I really like the mala flavors which was bold but overwhelming! They are located on the 2nd floor of The Source in OC. Definitely want to come back to try their other items.

This was my first time trying the Korean-style mala dish, and didn't know what this food was or what to expect. But I was very surprised how much I enjoyed the food here.
First off, the new Buena Park location at the Source is very nice. It is very clean, the menu is easy to follow, and the staff is great. The concept is similar to what you find at a Mongolian bbq buffet in that you pick the foods you want from the stations, then weigh it (approximately $20 a pound), choose your spice level, then the kitchen makes it. You can choose either the soup or the stir fry. I went with the stir fry (Mala Xiang Guo), and was not disappointed. Mild spicy is just right, especially if you don't want the overwhelming numbness that you typically find in these kind of dishes in Sichuan Chinese restaurants.
I decided to also try the tteokbokki, which is classic tasting. No complaints here. And the rice balls with fish roe was also pretty nice. I would definitely come back here again, and might even check out the one in Koreatown LA. Just be aware that it is in a big mall on the 2nd Floor, so you don't get lost trying to find it.
