The new hidden gem in the Valley. A definite must. Service is genuine and friendly.
Atmosphere is perfect like old Mexican hacienda, feels like you’re outside of LA. Restroom needs updating though.
The food very authentic, they do not skimp on the meats on the dishes and are well balanced.
Molcajete is a favorite and pibli is a must!
Drinks are on point.

Sad. What once was a great place, VIVA, for 25+ years is now a gentrified wanna be mexiplace for transplants to Burbank.

Foods not terrible, service is good, but definitely a rip-off of the original

Nice atmosphere. Traditional Spanish style (Mexican influence) decor. Came in on a Sunday morning, zero wait time for a table. We were met almost immediately by one of the workers and seated. Yes you do have to pay for chips and salsa; hopefully $4.00 doesn’t break the bank for you.
I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and my wife ordered the Pozole. We were both happy with our meals and will likely return to this restaurant. I read some negative reviews; our experience was not a negative one.

So stupidly I picked the restaurant because my daughters and I were hungry and 2 hours early for an event nearby. We walked in. No acknowledgement. All humans ever really want is to be acknowledged. And it's like the restaurant stood still gawking at us with contempt. Service was very slow. We weren't all even given silverware. Fork only. No spoon or knife. Needless to say our order was wrong and the wait staff proceeded to argue with my vegetarian daughter given chicken instead of cheese...How about you Just apologize and make it right? Never asked if we were enjoying the food. Never asked if we wanted refills or dessert. And I had to basically get his attention to give me the bill so that we could leave. Guacamole was weird. I'm ok with the pickled onions, but weird, red sludge and warm, sour salsa?? Not trying to play the race card...But I'm biracial and so are my daughters. We were treated like 4TH class citizens. No soap in the bathroom btw. Totally lackluster to say the least. Will Never go back again. And to our Very inattentive waitstaff. You're welcome for my 20%. Oh and I neglected to mention the off putting, strange colored rice. And what Mexican restaurant asks you if you want beans Or rice with your entre?? 😳

My husband & I came here based on the good reviews... we should've listened to the bad!
We started with the chips & salsa. If you want to try flavorless food, order these! By the looks, it looked like the salsa was from a can and literally had zero flavor. We did send this back & the waitress was kind enough to take it off our bill.

Well, we debated on leaving then, but decided to give it a shot since we had already placed our order. My husband ordered the chile relleno & I ordered 2 Steaks tacos & a grilled shrimp taco.
My food came out first & it was a lot of food! My husband ended up eating one of the steak tacos, which at first tasted ok. But the more you ate, the more you tasted only a smoky flavor. The shrimp tacos I actually enjoyed, although it was mostly filled with cabbage... but at least there was some flavor! My husband's relleno was just terrible... and let me tell you, he will eat anything! He couldn't finish his dish. It was huge, but also bland. The red sauce was from a can
The beans & rice served with it were also lacking any flavor.
Overall, we'd suggest you stay away... unless you don't mind giving your money away.
P.S. now reading reviews, we wish we weren't in such a hurry to get out of there & looked at the bill. If there was an optional kitchen fee that we were charged for without being asked about the option, we would have said something. The tipping is getting out of control!

Unfortunately, the food was pretty bad. Right off the bat, the chips and salsa were bland. We actually sent chips and salsa back. The fact that they charge for something that bad is ridiculous. I ordered the Chile relleno dinner. The Chile relleno rice and beans were also very bland. I ended up only eating the rice with some of the sauce that comes over the relleno. My wife ordered a shrimp taco and asada taco they were OK, bad a lasting after taste of what tasted like liquid smoke.

Good afternoon, my wife and I just visited your restaurant table M11/check 3 server Dyani. We ordered 2 plates and the rice and beans were spoiled and bad. My wife had the Mole and is currently vomiting in the restroom. I’m currently feeling sick. This was the first time we visited your restaurant and was not happy with the quality of food. We are from Mexico and definitely know when the food has been spoiled and not fresh. Please reach out to me. I would love to try this again with my family since we live a block away

We also tried to call the restaurant before arriving and no answer
The week before I went with a friend for happy hour and all the bartenders were taking shots and not attending customers. I thought they were filming bar rescue.. terrible food/service

Well,

Being a business owner, I support any work any employees do. I understand the kitchen has a heavy and challenging responsibility in a restaurant setting. In actuality, without food chefs or cooks behind the scenes, a restaurant won't be able to provide great quality's service. .03% shouldn't affect or hurt your pocket. As a matter of effect, you should be happy to tip the chef or cook in the back. For those reasons, I'm happy and pleased to give them a 5 start. My experience was amazing. Alex, my bartender, was amazing with great customer service. I would be happy to have him part of my team. Great leadership 👏 and positive energy.

Date night has come around, and yet once again, we have opted for Mexican cuisine. The reason we chose this restaurant is because my wife felt like having Tortilla Soup, and this restaurant happened to be "famouse" for its flan and authenticity. It's located right next to the equestrian center and has a decent amount of parking. The inside looks bit "cold" although the decorations look recent. Reading the menu 2 things popped to my attention as a Mexican foodie, 1) This restaurant is one of five restaurants in a corporation, and 2) They have all-you-can-eat taco Tuesday. Anyway... when our order arrived, it was our impression that the Tortilla Soup was prepared with a quick-mix of powders, same impression with the Flan. I also ordered the Aguachile de Camarones, which I enjoyed very much, the shrimp tasted very fresh, personally I would have used 1/3 of the cucumber ratio, but I just put what I didn't need aside. The tacos, on the other hand, did not look bad at all.

Also ordered their house margaritas and they were very good. I highly recommend, our server was very kind and friendly. It doesn’t get very busy so getting a seat is no issue, except we went on the weekday so I am not sure what it looks like on the weekend.

Food was not authentic. Food service was severely delayed. Guacamole tasted like store-bought guacamole, Mexican Coke arrived already opened, tasting like refillable fountain coke. The weirdest feature of all it is “authentic Mexican restaurant” that is playing 50s American music. Overly priced enchiladas, a serving of just two tacos for $18 for only 2 tortillas with some chicken inside. Don’t be fooled by the high ratings.

I was one of two tables there and it took forever to get waited on. The chips, which are extra, were stale and needed salt. The salsa was good, nice and fresh. I got the chicken Oaxaca. It took 25 minutes to get and the chicken breast was way overcooked. The mole was very good though. Even though I was still the only diner, the waitress never showed up to give me my bill. Not very impressed. The owners should check out Los Amigos to see how things should be done.

I've been battling so hard whether to post this because I want Celia's to do well, and I really had a good meal the first time I went.

I stopped by last week to have a quick drink and a small snack. First of all, their menu completely downgraded. They had these flights of Mezcal and a much better selection the first time. Last week all they had was a small selection of overly sweetened margarita concoctions. I asked about the previous menu and the guy seemed confused. Everything was a definite downgrade from my first visit.
And let's talk about the food. I ordered the potato flautas. What came out was two overlapping corn tortillas with potatoes inside and heated in tomato sauce. I'm not sure where this went wrong, but not by any definition is that a flauta. It was cheap and gross and way over-priced.
Like I said, I really wanted to like this place and support business in the Rancho but I definitely will not be back.

I also strongly urge the restaurant to stop serving octopus. It is absolutely barbaric.

From the handmade tortillas and fresh chile relleno to the enchiladas, tacos, and omelets….everything on the menu is delicious and cooked to traditional perfection by Beto, their master chef. In addition, Liz, who is the waitress extraordinaire, greets everyone in a friendly manner, as well as being quick to serve food, provide drinks, and clean the tables. Truly authentic Mexican cuisine does not come cheap. While I would not say it was overpriced for what you are getting, I would say that if you are expecting oversized plates of food for a reasonable price, then you should go elsewhere. While I appreciate having this kind of restaurant available, I don't think this is the right location for it. I can't afford to eat here on a regular basis and would have preferred something more Acapulco like in this location.

Ladies & Gents if El Torito or Acapulco’s, Chimichangas or Burritos is your thing- this is not your Americanized Mex Restaurante - lo siento!

However, if you’re savoring authentic Mexican cuisine with VIP water (that will be charged) then this is an exquisite restaurant.

Why? I’ve been an accountant in Burbank for over 20 years. There are few restaurants that I can take my VIPs for lunch and have a premium experience.

I live next to this place and I used to go to Viva. We were all a little concerned when a new restaurant was coming in and we feared this huge change.
That said- This new restaurant is the breath of fresh air that we needed! It isn't your run of the mill menu (who wants a new place with the same old food?!) But it is incredibly flavorful and fresh, nice variety, and the menu is being constantly updated based on the clientele.
The atmosphere preserves some of Viva and honors the Rancho, but it's now clean and in good repair. The new bar is stunning and the drinks are top quality - meant to be savored not pounded. I keep hearing the neighborhood bar flies complaining but the truth is, if you appreciate a high end cocktail that is crafted carefully and made fresh, you're going to be happy!
Now let's talk food - there is something truly delicious for everyone here. Steaks, seafood, chicken, pork, and several vegetarian options. While you don't get to gorge on free chips and salsa, if you order the molé chips you'll have plenty to share and they will bring you some very flavorful salsa if one of their 5 very different molé sauces doesn't fully satisfy. We did the green with pepitas 💚We also tried the queso which was fabulous (happy hour!). For dinner, I had the chicken tinga enchiladas with Oaxaca molé (more traditional molé with a little spice and huge flavor!!), Cilantro rice, and beans. OMG I can't even tell you how good it was because there are no words!! My companion had the vegetarian tacos and they were so huge she could only finish one and the cilantro rice. (She doesn't usually eat her leftovers but in this case, oh yes she did!) And next was dessert because why wouldn't we?! I had a light Mexican cocoa tasting mousse that was served with fresh berries & cream and it was out of this world! My other half had the best, creamiest flan EVER also beautifully plated with fresh berries and cream. Verdict: don't skip dessert!!!
Everything we put in our mouths was fresh and made from scratch. Huge improvement over what we were used to!!
Also notable, you don't have to chase down the staff to get drink refills or your check. They are so polite and attentive but never pesty.
A little note for everyone who is upset over Viva -I know many people are talking trash out there because they were so loyal to Viva. But Viva is never coming back. These folks had nothing to do with it and their restaurant is phenomenal. They are truly interested in giving you a nice dining experience in a place that still feels like home. Give them a chance and they'll show you.

Parking - they have a small lot and there is parking across the street at Pickwick.

Looking for something different. Try this place, they have a full bar, happy hour specialties and very delicious regional mexican cuisine. It is such a refreshing menu. No regular tacos, burritos and chimichangas here and the chef is not very flexible with their menu

I think this is best suited for a date night with no kids thou.... A kids menu "exist" and their prices is a bit on the high side.

A negative thou is that this is one of those places that tack a "3% optional kitchen gratitude" SURPRISE!!!! I do support fair wages and it is a small amount but why do this??

One should try this place, but if we were to come back soon.... We will see, and I will warn them with that surprise at the end.

Beer so cold a polar bear would complain!

Looks fantastic, lots of upgrades but still has the old Viva layout, minus the stages for entertainment. It's an upper-class appointed, nice sit-down, adult-style restaurant. The remodel is very nicely done, not a bounce house for the kinder to befoul.

Got together with the Wolf Pack and went right before they opened for business. The staff was setting up but let us in early for cocktails. Sad to say we missed the Happy Hour, it's only on Fri, Sat, Sun.

Had drinks and appetizers in the back bar area. Drank a few draft Modelo's w/tajin rims.Beer so cold a polar bear would complain!

We ordered the mole chips and the chicken enchiladas. Both were very good, hand made, and distinctive flavors.

Our bartender Marco provided exceptional service, was knowledgeable about the remodel, the menu items, and eager to answer our questions.

My first impression is that it's a very nice place with authentic unique flavors from old Mexican recipes. This is not your Barrigans, Granadas, Don Cucos, or Acapulco style restaurant. I would say it's an upper scale authentic experience with unique flavors with small portions.

I think they'll need some time to ramp up and tweak their menu, add and remove what is or isn't working. The parking sucks unless they strine an agreement with Pickwick across the street. I wish Celia's "mucha suerte" and many years of business.

Very nice redecoration. Our server was very nice and friendly.

The food is authentic South Mexican, it's not the highly Americanized Mexican most of us are accustomed to. No burritos, quesadilla, no complimentary chips and salsa. Remember Authentic means no cheese anywhere.

The menu is very actually very limited, there are more listings for appetizers than for entrees.

I thought the mole sauce and rice was excellent. The chicken portions are tiny and paper thin. This is one of those hoity toity places where you pay $40 for dinner and have to stop at a drive through on the way home to get something to actually eat.

It's been a while since I've eaten authentic Mexican, so it was a nice evening, but I doubt I'll return. Like most Americans, I just prefer lots of cheese and chips and salsa and a lot more variety on the menu.

The food is wonderful. A fresh take on Mexican food. The remodel is beautiful. Very up to date decor. The seating is comfortable and the dining room is well spaced. The table setting is beautiful, but missing spoons and knives. They did supply more flatware upon request. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We had each of the deserts, they were heavenly. The vegan and fish options were good as well. The pricing is on point with the quality of food and service. A great place with neighborhood friends or casual executive meetings. We’ll go back again when the back side of the restaurant is open. I always loved to eat by the bay windows and watch the horses. Make reservations on open table app and you’ll be seated in a very timely manner.

We went last night. Never again.

Overpriced. Food was bland and lukewarm. Drinks were overpriced and small. They charged us for water! It was a terrible night.

Celia's is open! The menu has a great selection of creative Mexican style dishes to choose from. It's not like an El Torito's or Don Cuco kind of place where you get a huge plate of food with a mound of cheese beans and rice. Celia's is different, plates are crafted, fresh made to order and favor packed. Its like the kind of Mexican food you’d find in a nice restaurant in Mexico City or Guadalajara.

They don't start you off with chips/salsa, you can order chips, ours we got drizzled with mole, really flavorful. They have 4 different types of mole, we tried 2, so good (and I am not usually a mole fan). My favorite dish of the night, the green mole chicken with cilantro rice. It was slow cooked and delicious. The sea bass was amazing too, with the cauliflower mash, ok that may have been my favorite dish! Both ceviches we tried were fresh and delicious. The citrus bok choy salad was light and fresh. The Caesar was a heavier salad, presentation was really cool, they stack the leaves, so easy too cut and share, but the dressing was a little heavy on the anchovy for my taste. Both of the ceviche dishes we tried were light and the fish so fresh. We had to try the angel hair soup, it was really good! The nopales salad, unique and tasty! The cauliflower tacos were good, but I'd choose the chicken or fish next time, both were outstanding.

The service was really good. Everyone was super nice. Waiter was patient with all my inquiries and made good recommendations.

They spent a lot of time and money and put a lot of thought into redoing the place. Its beautiful, walls lined with art and really cool old photos. They kept the overall feel of the old place, there are still 2 really cool bars, one even has a margarita alter. The spicy margarita was good!

Can't wait to go back to try a beef or pork dish. Portion size is perfect. Yet I still somehow over ate. Glad to have another good restaurant around town! One thing I was a little disappointed, the old place had 2 stages, they went away with the remodel. But maybe sometime in the future, music will return to this awesome little spot in the Rancho area of Burbank!

Don’t let the Karen’s fool you. This place is absolutely amazing! Great service and the food is incredible! People leaving bad reviews on the first couple days a place is open…really? Of course there are going to be things to work out. Have some empathy. You can feel the heart and soul the owners have poured into this place from the decor, to the food, and to the hospitality. It’s family owned and not some big corporate chain. Not kid friendly? It is…but if you think it’s not…keep going to Chuck E Cheese and Shakey’s. I will definitely be back. Shoutout to our attentive server, Martin!

Gorgeous ambience and authentic Mexican food-everything made from scratch, including the mole. REAL food, and an entire room devoted to the Rancho’s equestrian heritage and history. The owner kept the original bar after learning about the initials some locals carved into their preferred seating area. No, it’s not Viva’s…and thank God for that! Maybe the haters would prefer Taco Bell!
