Giamela's Submarine Sandwiches

This shop is a great hole in the wall for sure. If you're hungry with a couple of bucks and looking for a hearty meal, you don't have to look so far in Burbank. I had the pepper steak and pastrami (a little too hungry), haha. The meat was juicy, and the toppings were a nice balance to the slightly salted meat. They also give you a nice handful of banana peppers! For the price and fast service, they serve up their sandwiches, I forsure we will be back again to tame my hunger.

Very busy the whole time we were there. But they were fast and friendly. Prepare for cash only ( no higher then 20's).

They could put a little effort into upgrading the seating area. A relative says it's looked like that since he was a kid about 40yes ago.

Very good sandwich, especially for the price. I had the small pastrami and was larger than most people’s large. Tender and with lists of pickles tomatoes opinions. Bread was ok, and pastrami was good but wasn’t the good Jewish pastrami that I like more. Then again this is a sub shop. I’ll be back for their signature steak and pepper sun next

I recently got a new job in the area and for lunch was craving a good ol’ sub sandwich. This place is only a short walk from my job that’s a huge +. I ordered the Cold cuts w/ mayo, mustard, tomatoes, onions, and, pickles. On a scale of 10 I’ll give this sandwich an 8 it was good and fresh but nothing amazing taste-wise. The bread is fresh and soft with sesame seeds and the veggies were good and crisp. They put black pepper on all subs and you can customize your sandwich. Customer service was superior❤️‍🔥. Very friendly and made me feel welcome. When I got there I told the gentlemen at the front that it was my first time being there. He was very helpful and told me about each sandwich and the best sellers which I believe is the pastrami, (don’t hold me on that) You have two size options 6” or 12” I can say the 12” is HUGE😉 it took me 2-3 sessions to eat it also it doesn’t get soggy fast if kept n the fridge. You can tell it’s family-owned and run everything looks original from when they opened I love places like this kinda whole-n-the-wall🥰... Next time I go back I will try the pastrami again n 6” and update this review.

The meat for all the different sandwiches is always fresh and delicious! The sandwiches are simple. Meat. Cheese? If you’d like. Mayo, mustard? Whatever you like! They offer chopped tomatoes, pickles and onion! I love all the different sandwiches! Especially, the tuna and the turkey! The building is falling apart and needs a little bit of remodeling. That’s why the atmosphere didn’t get five stars.

Im a lover of pastrami sandwiches and have had them from all over SoCal. Giamelas pastrami is perfect every time; warm, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. Also a fan of their meatball sub and the pepper steak. It doesnt look like much from the outside but its definitely worth stopping by just remember to bring cash. Highly recommend!

This is a tough review for me to leave because I ve been a patron since 2000. Over the years I ve stopped by randomly, but my most recent visits showed me something I might have been ignoring for years. The people making the food wear gloves and with some same gloves they handle money and go back to making sandwiches. I called out the guy for it this last time and he just laughed about it and continued making the food. I don t think I m going back until these people practice more sanitary food handling.

This used to be a great place back in the day. The younger men that have taken over are not as good as the old guard. I asked for extra pickles and the server made believe to add pickles when they did not. The quality of meat also has gone down hill. The current place and newer servers are just not up to par. At least I have memories of when this place was a good place to eat at...

Giamelas is a classic go to and has been around for so many years! Consistent quality subs generously topped with diced onion and pickle (if you opt for it). Always a treat and blows away the chain sub shops. The only downside for some my be that its cash only.

Almost 20 years since my last visit here and they still make the best pastrami and peppersteak sandwiches in the history of whatever. I love this place. Came for the pepper steak sub, with red bell peppers, green peppers, and chopped onions... Excellent food, super fast service, and for a great price. The only thing is theres no parking, I drove around the block three times until something opened up. Definitely check this place out.

I got there at 1230 and still only had to wait less than 10 minutes. The line moves fast. The quality is constant. They charge more to add cheese now and extras (like more pepperchinis) always hot, fresh from the pan onto my sub my go-to is a peppercorn steak) On a side note, I did hear a patrón complaining about the Su land location and that he had just been there and they could not get his order right so he drove all the way to this Burbank location...food for thought.) Small shop, this location in burbank has been here for years. The entire shop inside and out needs an update. But you come here for the subs, and everyone Ive tried is always on point. The service is fast, staff very friendly. Menu is only sub sandwiches, canned beverages, and chips.

We live about an hour away, but Giamelas is such a treat to stop at when we are passing through the area during mealtime, usually on our way to a Dodgers game. On this trip, we were returning home from a weekend at Stagecoach in the Coachella Valley. Our group had the Turkey, Pepper Steak, and Pastrami subs. The pastrami is great with mustard and ask for extra pickles for that classic combination of flavors of sour and salty. You can never go wrong with their pepper steak. My go-to is always the simple, cold turkey sub, no cheese, with everything - mayo, pickles, onion, tomato - and that side of spicy chili peppers (the cold sandwich helps cool down that mouth fire). Everyone ate every last bite. We were also happy to return to large portions at reasonable prices after being at a festival for the weekend - so welcomed!

Been a cool minute since ive had a sub at this spot as I no longer work in the area. Stopped in recently and dam their pastrami still tastes just as good as the first time i tried it. Yes theyre cash only, but cash is always king and hit this place up if youre in the area, great chance to support a local busniness with awesome people working there too!!

My friend ordered 2 sandwiches with nothing else I picked it up and it came to $34. $34 for two sandwiches?! The meat balls were too big to eat and dry and I almost choked on the roll. Never go there again Parking: At least it was easy to park

Giamelas is a Classic!!!! I have been going there since I was a kid. Best sandwhich ever, anywhere. The food is always great. Fast service and the staff is always great. If you go to Burbank, you Have to go to Giamelas. Its a standard. Dont ask if they take credit cards. There is a Big sign right on the menu and at the register.... Cash Only!. But even with the sign so big a cow could read it, there is always sum Num Nuts who asks if they take credit cards. Definitely worth the visit.

Food was just, eh. Sandwiches are on the larger side but they are so bland. They do put chopped onion, pepper, and tomato on all of the sandwiches, but its thrown on top so you either get a big bite of veggies or a bite of bland meat. Seating is very limited. Only 2 tables outside and its cash only with the closest ATM being across the street at the gas station. I really wanted to like this place but its not somewhere I would go back to.

Cash only. Food is decent, good amount of meat/filling for the cost, but the hot stuff gets soggy fast. I usually order pastrami or pepper steak Low rating is due to the fact that they randomly close early. Knowing this, I literally called them 30 minutes ago asking if they would be open until 6 today. They assured me they would. I drive 15 min out of my way, I get there 5-10 min before 6 and they are closed, door is shut. The cashier sees me through the window but waves me off.

This place has been a staple in Burbank for decades. Old-style submarine sandwiches (big!) served by guys who all could have been played by Joe Pesci. Its a grubby place that is charming in its own way because they dont try to be fancy AT ALL. Honestly, the linoleum tiles in front of the register have been worn away by years of customers, but why bother with a new floor? It just is. And the worn floor shows just how popular this place is. My pepper steak sub was salty, but not bad, and I decided go back again and try something else just because, well, its an experience. I got a turkey sub today and it was big and beautiful. And a big sub is a good sub. The guys behind the counter are friendly characters. They only offer a few kinds of sandwiches that are customizable, but the ones Ive had so far are good. Its worth a visit.

After eating here for 40 years, today (6-29-22) was Very Very Dissapointing. The pepper steak sandwich had no green or red peppers like it used to have in the meat. Totally blan no flavor or taste. They skimpd on the tomatoes pickles and onions. It was Just Awful. I will not be back to this location. I hope the other Giamalas locations have not given up on tradition. 12$ with a bottle of water. This may be my last pepper steak sandwich from Gismelas franchise. I will try a different location and update this post. Peace. M

Cash Only Best sandwiches in Burbank I have been going to Giamelas for the past twenty years, first at there Atwater Village location, then at the Burbank location. I have ordered the turkey, meatball and sausage sandwiches, which are then are topped off with chopped pickles, onions, and tomatos along with dressing. While the Atwater Village and Sunland locations offer pizza and pasta, the Burbank location is sandwiches only.

So sad that I couldn t make it here because they were closed! It s been years since I ve been able to have Giamela s since moving out of Burbank; and as a trucker I definitely haven t been able to get my favorite peppersteak sandwich! Today by chance though I was able to because I didn t have a trailer on me, and I saw on Yelp they close at 7:30. I got so excited and rushed on over! Once I arrived though; my heart was CRUSHED when I saw the closed sign! I checked Google only to find out I was a half hour too late! I screamed out of frustration and hunger, and ended up having to settle for Tommy s. Though it was a good place to fill my stomach; it couldn t satisfy my craving for my childhood love for Giamela s! 5 stars were given because this is how much I love this place!!

My favorite sandwich is pastrami. I try the pastrami every where I go. In my opinion, Giamelas is THE BEST!! The cheesesteak is also excellent!

I recently got a new job in the area and for lunch was craving a good ol sub sandwich. This place is only a short walk from my job that s a huge +. I ordered the Cold cuts w/ mayo, mustard, tomatoes, onions, and, pickles. On a scale of 10 I ll give this sandwich an 8 it was good and fresh but nothing amazing taste-wise. The bread is fresh and soft with sesame seeds and the veggies were good and crisp. They put black pepper on all subs and you can customize your sandwich. Customer service was superior . Very friendly and made me feel welcome. When I got there I told the gentlemen at the front that it was my first time being there. He was very helpful and told me about each sandwich and the best sellers which I believe is the pastrami, (don t hold me on that) You have two size options 6 or 12 I can say the 12 is HUGE it took me 2-3 sessions to eat it also it doesn t get soggy fast if kept n the fridge. You can tell it s family-owned and run everything looks original from when they opened I love places like this kinda whole-n-the-wall ... Next time I go back I will try the pastrami again n 6 and update this review.

I used to eat at Giamelas almost every weekend. Then I moved to where it wasnt convenient anymore, and its been a while since Ive been back. I went back this weekend, and was horribly underwhelmed. Maybe everything is better as a memory. Pro: - The large sandwich was large. - The bread was soft. Con: - The pastrami wasnt particularly flavorful. Id call it bland. Even with pickles, tomatoes, and onions. - Cash only. - The prices have gone up substantially. For a simple sandwich like this, $11.50 is too much. The small is only $10.50. No savings there!

The manager refused to wear gloves when preparing the sandwiches. He has an attitude. Will report to the health department and has immigrants working there for lower wages.

This Giamelas is a smaller location and has a more limited menu (no pizza or pasta) and a few less sandwich offerings. However, the offerings it does have (including their rightfully famous Pepper steak) are well made and delicious. Staff here are friendly and the food is always fresh and great. Currently only take out is available and everything is cash only.

Hands down the best sandwiches in California I bet anyone on that. The pastrami is KILLER! Once you go here, you wont ever eat at subway again.

I could not take the photos of the sandwiches because I ate them... Sorry, but they were amazing! I had a pepper steak sandwich that was quite satisfying. The beef was lean which made me think that these cows or these cattle were in excellent shape with no fat! Great value, too. Only $11 for a sandwich that could feed a whole family of 4 or 5 easily. Since I was a bit hungry, I also had pastrami, which was very thinly sliced. This was not as satisfying as the pepper steak for me. The meat had some fat. I also prefer thick cuts of pastrami because I am a bit spoiled by the Langers. The turkey sandwich was pretty good, too, although the turkey was cold. Anyways, go here when you are hungry because you get a submarine sandwich that is big and heavy. The workers were friendly especially when I started speaking my Spanglish, saying orale mi amigos, que onda?

AMAZING! Ive been coming here for about 20 years Back when I was in high school and had to take the bus lol The subs havent changed, they taste amazing and are HUUGE Will never stop going here! Their pastrami is second to none!

Bomb ! Pepper steak and pastrami oh so good but why cash only ? And why no card ? Well whatever the sandwiches are perfect but you have to eat them right away or else if you wait till you get home you get a sandwich looking like Disneyland claim chowder bowls.

Not very much parking, they have a simple menu, it must be good because there was constantly a line of at least 10 people, but they keep it moving and get you in and out quick.
