Castaway

Castaway is my family’s go to for celebrations and big groups. The food is always so delicious and the service is unbelievably good! Everyone greets you with a smile and I always feel so welcome.

We recently had our Grandma’s 88th birthday there. Cindy helped us organize it and everyone made it so special. The buffet was a selection pastas, sliders, salad, bread, and a prime rib. My favorite part was the array of cute desserts. The staff was so attentive, noticing when we needed help setting extra decor, helping us take pictures, and getting takeout boxes and bags when we finished eating.

Overall such a perfect experience. Highly recommend!!

We have been coming to this Restaurant for 20 yrs to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Except when they remodeled.
The staff is super friendly.
Ray the Bartender is the best.
All these years the same has already been amazing. Had Ribeye this time and it just outstanding. The views are are stunning. Come during sunset.

First of all, what a vibe this place is! Views for days. Would be amazing to come for sunset. Very cool setup inside and outside on the patio.

Food and cocktails were both great. We were there for brunch. Gin Membership cocktail was just what I was looking for - I don’t like super sweet cocktails, and this was not - it was crisp and refreshing.

Food-wise, both things I had were great. Highly recommend the cauliflower and short rib Benedict. The short rib Benedict may be on the pricier side but oh so worth it. Short ribs were super tender and the fact that it was served on a waffle was different and delicious.

I’ve been going to Castaway for years, and it’s the go-to for a girls’ weekend brunch (get the Fried Chicken & Waffle!!) and birthday dinners (I’ve had 3 there). The food is always amazing and the staff is always super friendly and attentive. Great for small, intimate dinners but also so accommodating when it comes to big parties, which is not easy to come by. If you can, ask for a table on the patio so you can enjoy your meal during golden hour :)

This most recent visit was my second time at Castaway for NYE, and I was not disappointed. Their drink menu is not only creative and ~immersive~, but they also use the most intricate ingredients (I like the Buzz Off because it comes with a Szechuan Flower). For NYE, they also served the hugest slice of Beef Wellington I’ve ever seen, so you know you’re in for a good time. Right before midnight, there was a flash mob that danced through the entire restaurant and got everyone hyped up for the countdown. They even gave everyone NYE hats, beads, and noisemakers!

My other faves are their Crispy Brussel Sprouts, Mushroom Pappardelle, and ESPECIALLY the Key Lime Pie. For those alone, I’ll be coming back again & again & again.

Beautiful dinner on Xmas eve. They had the regular menu versus a set Prix fix which was nice. The location is beautiful with views down to Burbank. The restaurant was full and service probably took a bit longer than usual however it was very nice not to be rushed. We enjoyed it a lot.

I visited Castaway for the first time, and I had heard great things about it. The view was truly as beautiful as people said. Especially, Mr. Tyler, our server, was absolutely amazing. He gave great menu recommendations, took photos for us, and made my daughter's birthday really special. I’ve been to many restaurants, but it’s rare to meet someone as kind as Tyler. He’s the best! Thank you so much!

My wife and I went to Castaway to celebrate our 29th Wedding Anniversary and it was an unforgettable experience! The food was absolutely delicious. They have a spicy cornbread that starts the meal. This bread was hot, fresh and scrumptious. They also have a popcorn chicken appetizer which literally comes with popcorn and chicken combined. That was outstanding too! My wife and I both had the half chicken as our main course, which was cooked to perfection, and accompanied by vegetables including potatoes and carrots. The vegetables were so tender and extremely tasty! The drinks were mixed well and had a wonderful taste. We can’t wait to go back again. Lastly the restaurant is beautiful, with breathtaking mountain and valley views that will leave you in awe. The staff were friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and efficient. Keep up the excellent work guys!! We highly recommend this establishment to anyone celebrating any event that they want to be remembered as special!

Been to restaurant many times before but always sit at the bar, no issues. Beautiful afternoon , got a table outside. What a mistake. Service was horrible, salad came after steak, couldn't order a drink, get a refill, couldn`t find server for 15 minutes several times. Restaurant wasn`t busy.
Spoke with Manager Julio Gonzalez, not sure how this guy has a job. Maybe it was his first day. Basically stated email me and I`ll get you some appetizers for next time . I emailed and called, no reply or call back. This guy is a joke .Don't need your appetizers , don't need to comeback, many restaurants to choose from

I was not going to give a review but last night we went for dinner everything was good until we start smelling gas, I told a server and he said that they know about it, and the smell got worse so I told a manager he he said, i knew but he didn't do anything they didn't care, but it was really bad really wanted the owners to pay attention to this.
YOU SHOULD NOT BE OPERATING WITH THIS BIG PROBLEM.
I had two kids, and 6 adults.
My kids felt bad and I had a headache.
If you (owners or managers) get back to me saying that this problem is been filed, I will call health department cause this is very dangerous, someone can get kill for smelling gas.

Our experience overall was really disappointing. Castaway Burbank makes a great first impression with gorgeous views and attractive aesthetics but the part that matters most for any restaurant: the food, was shockingly mediocre and at times, below average. At these prices, I expect exceptional. We are quite accustomed to spending well over $200 for dinner and have come to expect a memorable dining experience at this price point. If you're a foodie: do not waste your time coming here. Seriously. They could t even do memorable cocktails (don't waste your time with any of their "specialty" cocktails and just get wine or beer because either the bartenders are amateurs and/or their drink recipes are just bad). To make matters worse, the service was awful. The waiter was scattered, he forgot part of our order, all of our food was delivered to the table barely warm, he didn't give us steak knives (and all 6 of us ordered steak), we were there almost 3 hours (primarily because of the slow, spotty service) and he only filled our water glasses once. All of us said the only reason we would ever come back would be for the view, but then decided even that wouldn't be worth it due to the subpar food, drinks, and service. Given the numerous other high end dining experience options available in Los Angeles that are SO MUCH better than this place for the same amount of money, I'm truly perplexed as to how this place stays in business unless their repeat customers have simply never dined elsewhere.

Matt was in charge of our table and he was really professional and kind. He made all of us feel so special. I really appreciate it. Great place to have a good time and a date with good vibe. A quite romantic atmosphere. I just wish there used to be mor of different kind of delicious appetizers.

My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary dinner, the experience was more than wonderful. Our server Justin was genuinely so personable and kind throughout the evening. The food was excellent, as were the drinks and view. Obviously in a place like this it can be busy so don’t expect drinks in seconds, but within minutes they will be there and it is worth the wait! Thanks again Justin for an amazing experience. We will be back! Go bucs

Castaway is one of my favorite places to go in L.A County! My family and friends decided to go for New Years Eve and it was well worth it. They had a D.J., dance performance, and overall a great atmosphere to start off the new year. I highly recommend going to Castaway for any holiday occasion!

Great food, great service, great ambience.

They renovated the place pre-pandemic, and it’s literally perfect for a special meal with friends or family or a date night. Sitting inside with modern interiors or sitting outside for a lovely view of downtown Burbank (honestly, summer sunset 10/10)- any spot is a great spot!

I’ve been here for several occasions- birthday dinner, “treat yourself” days, mother’s day brunch, and most recently, my grandma’s birthday. I can’t say enough about the food and service for every occasion because it’s always a hit. But I wanted to give a special shoutout for the service during my grandma’s birthday because it was next level. Everyone was so attentive and kind. Always checking if we need anything, helping with the sun shades to ensure we’re not baking in the SoCal sun, etc. Also, I have celiac disease now and need to be quite strict about gluten cross contact and the staff was so knowledgeable and checked with the chefs who helped me navigate the menu. (lol, prime rib gluten free and is 100/10).

Definitely worth checking out. Especially for special occasions (“treat yourself” is a special occasion). Parking is valet- $15!

Stunning Views - try to get reservations where you can see the city lights. The restaurant is all by itself on the side of the mountain range. We make it a point now to go to Castaway every time we visit LA.

Views are very nice. The food was decent but overpriced. The service was slow and awful. They charged us for extra food we never ordered and tried to hide it without showing the check. Luckily, we caught it but they weren’t at all apologetic. After waiting for 25 minutes they finally adjusted the check but on it still gave themselves a 33% tip off the old price which is absurd. The manager there was unpleasant. The “elite” VIP parking was anything but. They took forever to get the car and acted like they were doing you a favor. I will never visit this place again. Make sure you look carefully at your bill.

Food showed up cold and overcooked. The waitress didn’t show back up to check on us until we were 3/4 way through our meal. The heaters kept turning off which made it rough to be seated outside and enjoy our time. For as much as we paid it was kind of disappointing.

Took my fiancé for the first time and Eddie was such an amazing waiter. I been to other fine dine restaurants and he made sure to treat us as regular guests like a simple regular restaurant instead of the tedious long waited ones in Beverly Hills.

The food was fine. Service was fine. The issue I had was 90 min table limit that was NOT specified when I booked. It was extremely embarrassing to be told to leave with a big party. Had I known about the 90 min, I would not have reserved.

The food is amazing but very fulling so I recommend not to order to much. Our server was Ekow and he was very nice, he chatted with us time to time which I like when servers do that. Recommend also to dine at night for the beautiful view of the city.

White wine was too chilled. Odd selection of shrimp and oysters hard bread with cheese. Simple salad with tasteless dressing. Mini size sea bass. Desert tray has red syrup splattered on it and all the items stuck to it. Pleasant wine list.

Full points for atmosphere - it cannot be beat. However, the food was not good at all. We were a table of 9 and ordered a variety of dishes - from appetizers to lunch. Nobody really enjoyed their meal, I've had better at chain restaurants. The quality of the food really detracts from the atmosphere.

Had brunch on Christmas Day Music So loud you can't even talk to somebody next to you. Waited 1 hour for my food. The service was absolutely terrible. I would give you a 0 rating if I could.

My friends and I came here to celebrate Christmas and it was a 10/10. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious and we can't wait to try the regular menu. Our server Jonah was FANTASTIC! The steak was chewy and the lobster was salty and those were the main meat items, , honestly the only thing that came out great was the cauliflower and the pasta dish. Everything else had some kind of issue like the Mac wasn’t that hot etc.

May this review serve as a rave from a servant heart that would like to pay homage and honor to a mighty hospitable server that humbly holds "The hospitality cup of Rose Gold" and shines his light amongst the bougie pretentious customer's, old money, and the new school digital keyboard industry kooks.

Furthermore, this human has a heart of gold and serves as if he was mentored by Jesus himself or the Dale Lama.

Moreover, Jonah A. Works outshines he foes of compared to the countless restaurant politics, masked colleagues, and the thick outdated vail where Merit is constantly overlooked and underrated Jonah A. is a unicorn.

In closing, as a man who is educated, trained, has led, developed, and lived hospitality throughout the toughest human in this competitive industry, from the Pacific Northwest and throughout Southeast Asia, Jonah A. is a savant.

May the universe give, elevate, implmplore goodness, and of his heart desires. And may ownership, investors, and benifactors use him as a model to lead and train current and future staff and perhaps kiss his ring as the biggest asset they have.

My family had a wonderful Christmas brunch at the Castaway. The setting and view were stunning, as always. The Christmas brunch menu was absolutely amazing in terms of both quality and quantity. The helpings were rich, delicious and large (we all took something home in a box). Briana, our server, was a delight, charming and attentive. I cannot recommend spending your Christmas with the Castaway enough.

I don't normally write reviews or complain to this extent, but after my experience at Castaway Restaurant, I feel compelled to warn others. My visit was an absolute disaster from start to finish, but what really made it unbearable was the terrible, rude service from the manager. ” Julio”
Here’s how the night went: we ordered 3 appetizers which were just ok, ( sent back the caviar fries because they were cold and did not taste good. now for the main corse, we ordered two filet mignon steaks ( 1 cooked medium, 1 cooked well done butterflied) the Mac and cheese, garlic fires and mashed potatoes , the food arrived ridiculously cold with the exception of the fries. — I asked the server who was extremely polite and helpful to have it fixed. They took it back, and when it came out again, after 2 HOURS both steaks were undercooked and the sides were still cold. How do you mess up both steaks AGAIN?! At that point, I was frustrated, but figured I’d try to get it fixed one more time. The 3rd time they brought out the “medium” cooked steak, it was burnt and had a very distinct smell of old meat that has been either sitting out for a very long time and or expired. ( I have been in the food business for 15+ years and I know how meat should smell and taste)
When I brought the issue up to the manager, I was met with total indifference and borderline hostility. No apology, no attempt to make things right, just a condescending attitude like I was the problem. It was clear they couldn’t care less that I was unhappy. They actually had the nerve to say “ what do you want? Us to remake it or for me to take it back and get you the check”! Unbelievable!
After I pointed out how unacceptable that was, the manager just walked away. We didn’t even bother eating another bite, as it was clear this place was more interested in treating customers like garbage than actually delivering on quality food and service. They still had the nerve to charge us for the food that we didn’t even touch.
If you’re looking for a place that doesn’t care about you or your experience, Castaway is the place. But if you want to be treated with respect and actually get your meal cooked right, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. Absolutely terrible. We wasted 3 hours of our lives from 8:00pm-11:00pm and did not even get to eat.
Never coming back here, this was the most frustrating and unprofessional experience I have ever received.

We celebrated a birthday at castaway
Burbank and the next day everyone got food poisoning. My brother and his wife were hospitalized with severe food poisoning. It turned out that two of them didn't eat oysters and they weren't poisoned. I found the answer online. How long does it can take for oysters to make you sick.
The answer was
"With the most severe form of infection
Vibrio symptoms usually appear within 12-72 hours after eating raw or undercooked oysters. Nori virus symptoms appear 10-50 hours after infection".
Be careful if you order seafood in this restaurant...

I just took my mother and brother here for dinner last night, and honestly I wish I could give more than 5 stars!

I'll start by saying I'm really bad with names but my server's name started with an S. I think it was Shantae. She had a beautiful smile, and a warm personality to match! My mother had been wanting to come here for a long time, she was treated like royalty! Everything on the menu was well explained and described with such enthusiasm, I wanted to try everything! We had a couple coctails, including a great spin on a Cadillac margarita that was exceptional. The charcuterie was nothing short of perfection. My brother got the whole snapper, my mother got the mushroom pasta, with salmon added, and I got the braised short rib. Nothing disappointed, and we almost licked the plates clean! I knew we'd be remiss if we didn't get a dessert to round things off, and the Key lime pie was just as decadent as the rest of the meal. Every single part of this dining experience was perfect, and nothing could be improved. This is only possible from great management, and exceptional employees that take pride in the excellent service they provide. Thank you!

I wanted to thank Jacob and the staff for being so attentive about our dinner last night. He was informative, helpful and a great host. Jacob accidentally put down pasta instead of the butterfish but I promise you I was not upset. I believe that humans are allowed to make mistakes, and the staff although extremely apologetic, it was not necessary. I enjoyed every second of my dinner with my boyfriend. During this holiday season I want to remind the staff at Castaway, that a hiccup does not make for bad service. You were all amazing! Thank you for the dessert. I love your care and attentiveness. And Jacob keep going ! You have the gift of a gentle approach! I can tell. You are all doing an amazing job. <3

Does the management of this restaurant even read the reviews here on Google? My husband already left a review about an issue we had. We ordered snapper fish and asked to take home half of the leftover fish, but the busboy said he threw it away. They gave us what looked like half a fish for takeout, but it seemed like they had already removed part of it. When we got home, we discovered that the other half of the fish was also missing. It looked like they added a lot of flour to make it seem like there was still meat on it, but both sides of the fish were gone—leaving only the head. This seems like a sneaky move by whoever came up with it, just to give us a fish carcass to go.

I'm writing this review so that management can address the issue or properly train their busboys and waiters. We spent $269 that day, and it's not a cheap meal. I've attached pictures of the receipt and the fish.

We had the most amazing dinner here! Karen G. provided excellent service and was so pleasant. She even took photos for us several times. The food was exquisite and Karen was very attentive and made sure everything was great! We will definitely be back soon! This is a must. Remember to ask for Karen!

So we went to Castaway Burbank for my daughter's 23rd birthday. The waiter was friendly and nice. To keep it short, I ordered a crispy whole snapper. I didn’t finish it, so I put half aside to be packed for takeout. When we asked the busboy what happened to our to-go fish, he said he threw it away. We told the waiter what happened, and they said they would replace it. However, when we got home, we only received a fish head. The to-go box appeared to contain a whole fish, but when I tried to reheat it today, I noticed both sides of the fish were missing. The half of the fish we wanted for takeout had more meat on it. Here are the pictures of the fried snapper and my receipt from dining in on December 15, 2024. Whoever’s idea it was to just fry the head, pour some flour on it to make it look like there’s meat, shame on you. Also, please tell your employees to pay closer attention to instructions so this doesn’t happen again.

Our office holiday dinner was an absolute delight, and a big part of that was thanks to our exceptional server, Branden. From the moment we arrived, he made sure everything was perfect, attending to every detail with precision and care. He was attentive, friendly, and genuinely made our experience feel special.

I ordered the aged ribeye, and it was cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and exactly as I had hoped. All of my guests were equally impressed with their meals, and Branden’s service only enhanced the overall experience. He was proactive without being intrusive, ensuring that our drinks were topped off and that we had everything we needed throughout the evening.

It's rare to find service that stands out so positively, but Branden truly made our holiday dinner memorable. We couldn't have asked for a better dining experience. Highly recommend!

My husband and I celebrated our Wedding Anniversary 🥂🍾. Braden was our waiter and he was absolutely amazing!! He was Real, Genuine, Attentive and Kind. Not pretentious at all or fake. Excellent view of the valley, The charcuterie board was excellent, the Brussel sprouts were just right, the mashed potatoes with Lobster was incredible and the aged ribeye was almost as good as mine at home! The atmosphere was a bit upscale for me, but I think most people would love it! Perfect for any special occasion. Or just take any old day and make it special.

Visited this restaurant for the first time with my wife and friends. From the start, I told my wife that we were going mainly for the view, as I wasn’t expecting much from the food given our gluten and dairy allergies. Unfortunately, the experience confirmed my low expectations.

First, the service was painfully slow. While our waiter was friendly, he was not attentive and seemed overextended, managing both indoor and outdoor tables. It took an unreasonably long time to get his attention. I sampled two wines while the rest of our party enjoyed their drinks, but by the time the waiter returned to take my preference, everyone else had already finished.

Two in our group ordered the butterfish, which was hot and well-prepared, but the other dishes fell short. One person ordered the half chicken, only to be disappointed by its lack of flavor and uncrispy skin. I ordered the salmon, substituting mashed potatoes for garlic fries, and was shocked when the dish arrived as cold salmon placed directly on top of the fries. Who serves salmon on top of fries? The result was fries that tasted like salmon.

After flagging down the waiter, I explained that the salmon was supposed to be blackened and the fries served on the side. When the replacement dish arrived, the salmon was merely seasoned with salt and pepper, undercooked, and still unsatisfactory. Even the broccoli on the plate was cold; only the fries were hot.

For a restaurant where we spent $400, leaving without a proper dinner was incredibly disappointing. The lack of attention from the staff and management was equally troubling. I asked the waiter why a manager hadn’t come by to apologize, and he had no explanation.

The views are spectacular, but they are not enough to compensate for the poor service, cold food, and lack of managerial presence. Great restaurants combine exceptional views with excellent food and attentive service. This place missed the mark entirely. You don’t spend two hours at a restaurant, leave hungry, and receive no apology. This was our first and last visit.

First things first, the atmosphere is the main reason people come to the Castaway. You simply can’t beat the magical appeal of that view. The service was amazing. Our waitress was attentive and engaging but not overly involved. The food is where I experienced some mixed feelings. The crab cake was a dream. Creamy, yet with texture, perfectly seasoned and slightly crisp on the outside. $27 for one crab cake is kinda crazy, but it’s worth it. I also had the smoked tomato salad and I ordered it without goat cheese. The salad was good. I could actually taste the smokiness, but the heirloom tomatoes were kinda mushy. For the main course I had the snapper and it was fried to perfection. The side salad and dressing were a perfect spicy addition, but I didn’t really care for the rice. It was mushy and overly salted. They also brought out jalapeño honey cornbread but I did not care for it at all. It had a sharp after taste. For dessert I had the key lime pie and it was terrific! Overall, the food was good, but I think it is also hit or miss depending on what you order.

Front end staff were very nice, and the view too. The only 2 positive things about this restaurant. Food was terrible. The seafood plate was overcooked and dry. Lobster, crab and especially the scallops and clams were super dry (you get 3 of each, and very small, smaller than the nail on your pinky, I am serious). The shrimps were the only decent things on this giant plate of rocks. Fried chicken and waffle was jerky level dry. French toasts were soggy. Food from the children's menu were the only decent things here. Don't come here for the food. You will be disappointed. Skinny short hair blond waitress was obnoxious and rude. Not what it was from 15 years ago. Will not be going back.

Went here for my anniversary with my girlfriend and it was my first time going. Honestly I was worried because of the reviews but now I understand a lot of those reviews are definitely picky, think they're privileged, and think orders are supposed to come out as fast as a mcdonalds order. This is not a fast food restaurant this is fine dining. If you want fast served food go to mc donalds you'll fit right in. Also shoutout to our server wil s. Thank you for talking to us and vibing with us it made us feel comfortable and you were very spot on and knew your stuff about the menu. Definitely hope we get you as a server again. On to the food. The food was great the tomahawk steak the calamari the lobster (although I wish they had garlic butter dipping sauce) and all of it was displayed with amazing craftsmanship and again I'll say people were complaining of the price I'm not rich and didn't even complain about the pricing. I spent about 400$ but got a lot of food that me and my girl couldn't even finish. If you want cheap food, taco bell will be right up your alley. No one is telling you to come here everyday. Also people complained of the parking but valet did just fine it was only 9 dollars mind you parking at universal studios can cost sometimes around 40 dollars so to complain about 9 dollars is laughable. All in all I had a great experience. The scenery was beautiful the drinks were amazing and I loved the show with the belle drink and I'll definitely come back again. Thank you castaway for a great anniversary for us.

I made reservations for 7:45 pm. We arrived a bit early, waited at the bar and enjoyed a couple of well made cocktails. Our table was ready on time, and we were given a great location, with heaters to balance the chilly night and a view to make my date very happy.
The food was excellent. We had both evening specials, the Turkey plate and the Prime Rib. Both well cooked, hot and delicious.

Very late submitting this review - we celebrated friends birthday on 30 September 2024 and had the best evening!

Our waitress, Shauntee, made the evening for us - excellent customer service, great chat and when she found out we were going to Vegas, she gave us suggestions of where to go.

Overall a wonderful evening and thank you to Shauntee! ☺️
