More people should go to this place. Never seems that busy. It’s as good as sushi is anywhere down in Ventura Boulevard. And it’s way cheaper and the chef is so cool. You kind of feel like you’re just eating in his house.

Late post -BFF and I came to satisfy our sushi cravings. It happened to be the first night of a Dodgers game, and the restaurant was bustling with activity. Unfortunately, it would have been helpful if the staff had informed us about the potential delays before we sat down, as it made for a somewhat awkward start.
When our server finally approached us, he asked us to mark our choices on the menu—a process that would have been smoother if he had done so from the beginning. Though the restaurant wasn’t at full capacity, the influx of takeout orders was evident, contributing to the overall chaos.
We didn’t have to wait long for our appetizers, which were served promptly, but the main dishes took about 20-30 minutes to arrive. Thankfully, once our sushi rolls began to come out, the wait was quickly forgotten. Each roll was not only beautifully presented but also tasted delicious—definitely a highlight of our evening!
While the sushi itself was excellent and hit the spot, the overall service left something to be desired. If you’re willing to be patient and enjoy some really good sushi, Tatsu is worth a visit. Just be prepared for some potential delays, especially on busy game nights!
Spicy Yellowtail roll 5/5 - nice portion, fresh
Rainbow roll 4/5 - typical
Lemon Salmon Roll 4/5- Super spicy tuna, needed more lemon but good
Marilyn Mon Roll 5/5- My fav, great flavor!
Edamame 3/5 – typical, meh

Just okay. I visited on a Wednesday, hoping this smaller, more intimate spot would be my go-to sushi place in Burbank, but I was disappointed. I ordered the Sushi Combo, and unfortunately, it didn’t meet my expectations—it wasn’t fresh. Perhaps I caught them on an off day, but I’m still searching for my favorite sushi spot.

This is truly the BEST sushi and sashimi I have had outside of a Michelin starred sushi restaurant in Kyoto. I want to gate-keep this place so much but I also need it to never go out of business. Not a single dish we ordered was a miss. It’s so good… just… so good. Please go here, but not so much that I can’t get a table.

This is what I would call a neighborhood gem. It sits on the outer edge of Burbank, literally, a few feet from the Toluca Lake/North Hollywood border.
I visited here with my daughter on a Tuesday evening. It wasn't very busy and we sat right away. We had the option to sit at the bar but elected a table. Later, patrons showed up that seemed to be regulars, sat at the bar, and were welcomed enthusiastically by the chef and staff.

We had an assortment of items during our first visit, including the yellowtail cilantro jalapeño sashimi, Tatsu Blossom 🌸, and several pieces of sushi including salmon, yellowtail and halibut. Everything was well presented and so fresh and delicious.

Will be back for more in the months and years to come.

This happened when it was our waiter first day at Tatshu sushi on magnolia blvd. We left him $53 tip because it was his 1st day. The owner added %18 gratuity already on top of our tip. We saw waiter outiside at end of his shift and they never gave him the tip. I went back inside and talked to the owner or chef and they got mad. They even came outside and were upset we were talking to waiter outside. We ended up tipping him outside cash $30. I felt so bad because he worked so hard.

Food is absolutely delicious however the 1 waitress is terrible. My first time there was takeout, she seemed annoyed I asked for spicy mayo after she handed our food & rudely gave us the price to pay for it. 2nd time we ate inside, same & only waitress got our order wrong & wanted to make sure she expressed the fact that she was right & I ordered wrong. Been eating sushi for about 20 years now, I know what I like & don't like. I really like the place, very close to where I live but not sure I want to deal with her again.

Nothing Better than this... Family business, Authentic food, and most important Amazing Service. Born & raised in LA and spent years going to the four corners of the valley in search of the God Tier Sushi spot. For a while I felt like Thanos in search of the infinity stones, but instead of finding one stone I found the infinity gauntlet. So now as Thanos said "I can finally rest and watch the sun rise on a grateful universe." In non-nerd terms stop wasting time and money on hit-or-miss spots, Tatsu is worth the time and money!

I was so happy to find this great spot near our house. We recently moved closer to Burbank and the sushi places we used to frequent are in Sherman Oaks and Studio City. This time we got take out right when they opened, but the restaurant was very cute and we will be back to dine-in. When I arrived to get my order everyone was very friendly and the order was ready to go. I checked it bc we had ordered a lot bc we had family in town, and everything was labeled and correct. All the fish was really fresh and had thumbs up from the family, including the Monkfish Sushi, Salmon Delight Roll, and Lemon Roll.

One of the best sushi places I've been to. Sushi tastes fresh and they have an excellent presentation with their dishes. I think the ex girlfriend roll was my favorite. I went the hour it opened and the place had a better ambience than expected compared how it looks like on the outside. Looks very highend but they have reasonable prices about 20-30$ per person or if you're sharing rolls. Service was average, everyone seemed nice and friendly. Parking lot is small so you might have trouble finding parking.

The atmosphere is nice and your classic Japanese restaurant with booths and table and nice music plaing in the background. They brought water right away and menus. The menus were interesting and you can order with a dry marker and writing on the menu. To simplify things we wrote only on one menu and reviewed it with the nice waitress.
I ordered Sushi ala cart and my friend ordered some roles. We got edamame, miso soup and cucumber salad to start which were all excellent and up to my Japanese standards. The cucumber salad had a very nice dressing which was maybe miso based. Next the sushi arrived and I took my first bite of the Himachi which was excellent. Fish was perfectly cut and a soft melt in your mouth taste with the perfect temperature rice, tasty rice vinigar and wonderful rice combo to make the perfect mouth watering sushi. All the other sushi 🍣 including the Uni was perfect. Next the rolls arrive which were delicious. The lobster roll tasted excellent (I'm not a roll person) and was best when you ate one complete piece in your mouth at a time although rather large and again you can taste the wonder flavor of the excellent rice. The rice here is delicious. Next thing we knew everything was done and we forgot to take pictures...I'm saving up for the Omakase and coming back!

Delicious place! We went for a friend's birthday and had a big party. The sushi was delicious, the server accommodating. Somethings took a while but it was definitely worth it. The only thing i didn't much care for was the yellowish lemony drizzle that was over the mochi and other dessert they brought out for my friend's birthday. The sake was delicious! And the staff were quick and eager to refill water glasses and take empty plates.
Beware, tho. The garlic edamame has a kick to it and it doesn't say so in the menu. :)

Their food is great compared to other places don’t get me wrong. HOWEVER, the service drags, there’s only one person at a time waiting tables and one person making the food, with the guests inside and their to-go orders, they need more workers to get things moving quicker. Be prepared to wait over an hour for your food and chase after the waiter for something.

Food was very good. Server seemed very disappointed that I was only ordering two orders of California roll and hot sake (which was over $30 total). She tried to convince me I had enough wasabi when I asked for more. Then I said I would pay for extra, she went and got some. I have never been charged for extra wasabi at a sushi place (maybe lucky me), but I was, for a very small amount. The meal was good but just not a welcoming vibe.

Ordered thru Yelp and the order was almost an hour post estimated arrival.

It was quite expensive and the quality was just ok. The seaweed salad had a pungent fishy smell and I didn’t eat it. The crispy rice was ice cold and soggy, the lemon roll was ok and the tamago was super sweet.

Overall there’s better cheaper places for sushi for the same level of quality or I would order from other expensive places for much better quality. Super bummed especially since it has high ratings on Yelp.

Review №70

Over priced and mediocre service.

We ordered 2 sides of sauce and they charged us $1 each. And sure, that’s only $2, but I’ve never been charged at a sushi restaurant for sauce.

We ordered a specialty roll for $16ish, and it came with only 6 pieces. And while that’s not a huge deal, most sushi restaurants, including ones in downtown burbank, charge similar prices, and come with 8 pieces. If it was just one roll, it’s not a notable difference, but getting 2-3 rolls makes enough difference that you’re missing out on ~6 pieces, or basically another roll.

Service was okay, we got there and there was only one other table, we ordered edamame and it never came. We tried to order their special, where if you buy a roll, you can add 4 pieces of sushi for only $8 (1 tuna, 1 salmon, 1 shrimp, and 1 tilapia). We thought you got the choice of fish, and when we ordered, I point on the menu that we’d like to order than special but then I asked for tuna and salmon. There was no clarification of what I was asking for, and so when the bill came we were charged $15 for what we thought was going to be $8.

Had a great meal with a friend at Tatsu. Service was quick and very friendly. There were tables taken but not crowded, it was a Weds night.

Cucumber salad had a really yummy dressing and the miso tasted really good! Was happy to see they have a gluten-free soy sauce (not sure if it was tamari) if you ask. I had the avocado roll and vegetable roll and they were both really good. I liked the wasabi, it was different than the usual tube stuff!

My friend had a few sushi rolls and yellowtail collar and he was all about them!

TLDR; Affordable, delicious, wide selection, and also good if you have a person in your group that doesn't like seafood.

Bonzai is a place I think about often during the pandemic. Although takeout from there is really good, there's nothing quite like fresh sushi. Most sushi joints either go the affordable route or they serve you an expensive, fresh selection of premium fish. Bonzai meets perfectly in the middle and gives you something affordable and good. Have someone in your friend group that doesn't like seafood? They're a heathen with no taste, but no problem. Bonzai has veggie rolls, beef/other protein bowls, and plenty of non-seafood appetizers that are filling.

This place is amazing. The food AND the wait staff! Particularly a tall Caucasian guy. I apologize, I can’t remember his name, but that guy is super dope and attentive. The ONLY reason this is four stars and not five, is because I can never get anyone to answer the phone for call in orders.

Food is always excellent and reasonably priced. I don't like sushi but have found a few rolls I really enjoy and my picky 7 year old loves the ramen. Sometimes the place gets busy and service gets backed up but they are always very nice.

Bf and I tried this place for the first time n loved it! I ordered the black garlic ramen and the broth was tasty as well as the pieces of chashu pork. We parked on a side street. We went in today at 6pm and loved the fact that it wasn't super busy or loud.
My bf ordered the mini ahi bowl, gyoza, and tonkatsu ramen, which he scarfed down n really liked.
We would definitely come back.

Excellent little sushi bistro. Casual ambience, nice selection, friendly service, good prices, fair portions. They can be crowded, but the service is fast and friendly.

Portion size is important when reviewing less expensive places because many of them sell thin slices of fish over large balls of rice. Not here. Nigiri was fresh and nicely proportional to the rice.

Had the best night out for dinner at Bonzai, great ambiance and delicious food. Was very impressed with the professionalism and how everything was executed I believe my waitress was Jenika who was very attentive to us. I will definitely be eating here again!

I'm vegan and still found delicious options here. The vegetable roll was fresh, as well as the other appetizers I ordered. I finished off my night with vetegable egg rolls, and veggie steamed potstickers. Will be returning!;

We got the best waiter! Super friendly service. The food was delicious and it did not take long for them to prep. The ramen and sushi looked as good as it tasted. Not expensive at all, especially considering how much food you get. I would highly recommend this intimate little sushi bar for date night. Or enjoy the bar solo -- this place is friendly.

My husband and I came to Bonzai for dinner on a Thursday night, the restaurant was about half full when we were seated. We ordered sushi, udon soup and a roll. The food was all good, but the service was lacking. Everyone was nice, but it took forever to get all of our food and no one came to check-in with us. I’ll probably give it another try, and see if it was just an off night.
