This board game café has recently become one of my favorite spots! As a board game enthusiast, I was thrilled to discover this hidden gem. It’s perfect for group hangouts or even a cozy date with your partner. They have a wide selection of games, making it a great place to try out those games you’ve always wanted to play.

One of the best things about this café is the food—absolutely delicious! The desserts and drinks are also amazing. The space is cozy and beautifully decorated, with a charming and comfortable atmosphere. It’s such a fun and enjoyable place to spend time.

The only downside is that it’s so popular that finding parking can be a bit challenging.

I've been here a handful of time with friends and my fiancé and always have a blast. I love this place because it is one of the few places that let's you play board games/ cards games for how ever long you like. You can also borrow one of their board games, you just have to give them your ID. I've tried their teas, which are good, but I have yet to try their food.

Over-rated. I'm sure the owners will be happy with the success they're having but they need to improve. Anyways, this comment is not for them.
If you planning to visit consider that
The the kitchen is not doing well during rush hours. I will avoid going during that time if I'm taking my kids. Also, the guys at the front taking orders they are the nicest guys except when they under pressure I guess. Parking can be an issue but I guess is how it is.

This place has been an incredible respite while my AC is broken during a triple digit temperature week. Lots of places to sit, large tables for groups (great if you're here for tabletop games or as a workspace). Inviting atmosphere, good food/coffee and friendly staff. There's spots to charge your electronics. And SO MANY BOARD GAMES. You can buy games here or trade in your ID to borrow a game while you're here. Not to mention, they host weekly/monthly events and meetups. Game N' Grounds is truly an oasis in the West SFV.

Such a cool spot for the neighborhood. Stopped by for an iced tea after a long bike ride. They weren’t serving food, just pastries. I’ll have to come back for the breakfast burrito, as it looks delicious. Staff was super attentive and nice. Free WiFi, endless games and they even have beer. A must if you are in Chatsworth.

Wow what a find, a friend recommended this spot to me. Atmosphere, food selection 💯!! Would absolutely recommend.

…. 3rd time back now and they have a table ordering system first just want to commend the effort put into making this and the menu selection 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

09/2023 — Okay food service if you are not here for the games is long …..took about 40 mins to get an avocado toast….. toasted bread plus avocado that’s it…. Some process improvement has to happen (limiting menus or having items that are quick to perp, or prep ingredients ahead of time). Came here also on my way to work and the same thing. Loosing a key customer base here. But apart from that still a cool spot

Had the Egg platter wasn’t my cup of tea but could be someone else’s. Have a kick to it

My internet went down and needed a place to work. Found this gem of a place. I got here at 8:30am or so. Coffee? DELICIOUS.
I had something that had Dulce de Leche cream in it... tastiest coffee I've ever had! Employees were extremely friendly and I heard several people who were regulars where the employees knew their name and that's a great sign. They have 2 rooms with the back room having over a dozen 4-man tables with padded seats. The front room had a few double tables and a chill area with couches and relaxing loungers if you wanted to just hang out. There are plugs on the walls if you need to stay powered, LOTS of games to purchase or rent while you're there, events like DND, Chess, Warhammer, Dune tournaments.... BUT they also have open mic nights, trivia nights, and even paint n Sips! Seems like they really look to serve the community and be a "3rd Place" outside of home and work. Food was great as well.

Anyone giving Game n' Grounds less than 5 stars is a liar or a fool. This place is perfect.

The atmosphere is inviting, and the decor is artsy and warm. I feel like I'm in a loved one's comfy, airy home. I love the skylights and wide windows letting all that natural sunlight in. The local artwork is also an inviting touch.

The service is awesome: everyone is friendly, cheerful, and helpful. There is a man with glasses who is especially great - I'm not sure if he's the owner of Game n' Grounds.

The menu is delightfully themed, and the food and drink are surprisingly delicious for a cafe. (I'm used to cafes serving great coffee but average everything else.) I'm happy they have such a great selection for non-caffeine drinkers such as myself.

This is a paradise for people who love games! They have an expansive selection from which to choose, as well as new games available for you to buy and take home. I'm not sure how Game n' Grounds operates without a cover charge, but I hope everyone comes and supports it to keep it thriving forever!

On a personal note, I live all the way in Los Angeles and have to drive 60 miles round trip, but I still come once a week. It's that awesome. I wish there was one closer to where I live!

We really enjoyed our time here! The place itself is clean, spacious, and they lean into the board game aspect of the business (which was delightful). We didn’t end up trying the food, but everything we saw come out looked really good. They have a solid game library (free to play!) and even more games for purchase. I wish I lived closer because it seems like they also host a lot of fun weekly events (there’s a big hand-drawn calendar for all to see)! If you like board games even just a little go check this place out, very worth the trip!

If you wish to be yelled at by a manager in front of everyone just because you asked why your Mocha was way below the 12oz line unlike others that came after you (when you were told by the server Ari it's supposed to be below the line), have them puff up as if they want to fight you while you're sitting down and then slap a to-go box and throw a cup towards you when you wish to pack up and no longer be a part of that atmosphere... then this place is for you. The manager Jennifer does not like to hear both sides when you are being disrespected by another employee named Ari, who was supposedly training and deserving of grace according to Jennifer, even though Ari was rude in tone, contradicting herself and didn't like the fact my mother was wanting to make sure they got what was paid for after Ari stated drinks are supposed to be filled below the line in the to-go cup (when filled to the top in their mason jars) and yet they were filling others to the top with similar drinks in the same to-go cups. Christiane, who rang up the order and made the drinks even admitted, prior to the conversation with Ari (who brought the tots to the table), when my mother noticed the drastic difference in size, that it is most likely less than 12oz because their 12oz mason jars are dirty and have to use the plastic to-go cups instead. There lacks consistency in "explanation" from one employee to the next.

After the interaction with Ari and asking for her name the manager stormed up to my 60 year old mother, who was siting down, asking what her problem was, already placing blame without reason. My mom tried to tell them the story and with every word, like "okay whatever" (when what was said wasn't understood by Jennifer or ignored because Jennifer preferred to defend her employee who was rude during the whole interaction and to continue the conversation/skip over what isn't being listened to) or "you've been here since the beginning of the store opening", we were met with an echo or an "excuse me what did you just say" or "You're rude for saying whatever" by Jennifer. My mom asked for her name, as well, for the review and she stated it loud and proud and told us to make sure we get it right. Bravo. A place that is supposed to be for people like us, a little different, is met with disdain simply due to wanting a better understanding of serving sizes and accountability. I don't know who Jennifer thinks they are but you never aggressively come up on customers as if you want to fight. Other than the service, the food is usually cold and/or poorly plated with serving sizes greatly inconsistent from one to the next. We always gave it another try because we like to see small businesses thrive. Please do better. And check your cameras Jennifer, they say a lot more than your puffed up ego.

Attached are photos from a previous visit and today's visit. Same order way different in portions (both a large). Today's photo, with way less tots is only missing 4-5 tots, eaten prior to the photo being taken. Honesty is key. We've had this issue before with other orders. Once I ordered a panini and was given a different side as well as way smaller portions than those around me. I asked why and they stated they ran out of the side it comes with and had to replace (without consent from the customer). The employees here need to be retrained or a new manager needs to be brought on otherwise, this store will not last the next 2 years since the cafe alone and its employees are sub par.

Also gotta appreciate a game space with a liquor license that sells mead!

Everyone is incredibly nice, usually open for games, even with strangers, and I've met quite a few people through the café. I get tons of work done there, albeit with welcome stops for board games. The place is just wonderful, a really friendly environment, I often stay there from opening to closing.

Food is fairly cheap, the café doesn't partake in toxic American tipping culture, and the board games are competitively priced with online retailers.

The staff are friendly and helpful, operating a board game lending system which allows people to play a wide range of games. You will see people playing social, casual, strategic and more serious games in here. There are tables of all sizes. There’s also not presently a table charge, so make sure to spend money on food and drinks to support the business! We enjoyed lunch over our games.

There’s also a shop which sells board games as well as niche gifts.

This is a well-designed, bright and welcoming cafe with delicious food and drink. I love that it is a clean, comfy cafe for all, with board games as a bonus if you’re into that.

The tables and chairs are comfortable, the atmosphere is pleasant, and if you are into board games they have a great selection both to purchase and to “check out” to play while you are at the cafe.

I love playing games like Wingspan, Azul, Cascadia, Photosynthesis, and Scythe. All are represented at the cafe and they have a number of other titles on my wish-list for sale.

It is the sort of place the west valley has needed for years, and I’m so happy to support these folks who have invested in creating a high-quality, welcoming independent coffee shop.

This place is cool just walking in..

The staff and clientele are very friendly. Friday is a big game night. If you walk in on a Friday then someone may come up to you and ask you if you want to play a game.

The games are for “rent”.. meaning that you have to leave your ID to play any game on the shelf for FREE. The games in plastic are for sale and cannot be played.

I’m going to try this place soon but I had just come from another coffee shop (*bucks) but I really wanted something different from the franchises.

This is my new favorite place!! I just moved back to the San Fernando Valley for the winter after almost 20 years away. I found GNG listed on the Meet Up app and decided to check it out with my Sons who are avid DND players. We got coffee and snacks, talked to the staff about RPGs, open game night and DND guild games, bought merch. We've been back twice, joined their discord server for the gaming community. I even took a 101 to learn HOW to play dungeons & dragons. Even though the store was insanely busy at the time, they still took time out to give us our (free) lesson. Awesome place, Amazing people! 5 stars all day!

An amazing hidden gem. I found this coffee shop earlier this week and was blown away. The food, drinks, and service are all definitely on brand. Not to mention the tabletop atmosphere this shop lives and breathes. What a great idea! They have an entire wall of boardgames that you can check out for use at one of their many accommodating tables, (or purchase) and play while enjoying a dwarf themed beverage or pesto panini... So far, my friends and I have enjoyed games of MTG, as well as some tabletops we brought with us. I will be coming here for the foreseeable future, as often as I can. Can't wait for the liquor license so I can enjoy a frosty pint! Cheers, Game 'n Grounds! You guys are awesome!

Nice place to have some coffee or capachino, pastry and play a board game. You can even do some studying on your laptop.

It is better than a traditional board game spot, and an average coffee shop. Since it is both it seems to struggle with it's identity with each half falling short because of it. At times seeming too casual where service becomes lack luster with no employee seeming to know their role and become indistinguishable from a customer.

Great addition to the community. I enjoyed the Queen's lavender, and it is good, a bit on the sweet side for me, but will ask less sweetener next visit.

This place has steadily grown over the months since it first opened, and I couldn't be prouder. Their baristas and staff are super friendly and helpful, their drinks tasty and delightfully themed! Their food is really good, and pretty diverse for a tiny cafe/table-top place.

And their tabletop options are vast, easily rivaling dedicated tabletop stores. Well lit, clean, and of course being able to get coffee/tea/drinks in just the other room cannot be beat. Many people spend all day here, just playing games and sipping drinks; I certainly did and wouldn't mind doing it again.

Cute little spot. I wasn’t able to look around too much since I had my dog. They did provide a water bowl and some treats once I was outside.

I ordered the Queens Lavender Latte and the breakfast burrito. Pretty good. Lots of flavor.

Wow great place! I highly recommend this place. They have great food that taste fresh and the coffee is cheap, but taste like A grade coffee.

Everyone is super nice and chill and the best part is you can play board games with your family or friends while you enjoy awesome food. I’m from the OC area but it was worth the drive and I’ll be back!!

A local treasure! We come here several times a week. Lots of board games to try and buy. The coffee is great (Stumptown) and so are the tater tots, so there’s something for the whole family. Also— try the egg plate! It’s yummy. The staff are all wonderfully helpful and kind. (Shout out to Frank & Casey Rain!) We do miss the kombucha tho— pretty please bring a kombucha back? (Even if it’s just in cans!)

My wife and I love board games, and we live just about 10 minutes away from this place. We finally stopped in the other day and absolutely LOVED it! We each got a coffee and stayed to play a game of Clank. We were having such a great time that we decided to stay for another game and ordered some food for dinner. The food and coffee were both delicious, great selection of games both to purchase and to borrow and play in store, and the staff was super friendly and inviting! They have a number of events throughout the week, and I’m sure that we will be back for many of them! We are both so happy to have this place so close by!

Very clean spot. A good amount of options in the drink category, and the gaming area seems to be well maintained. Overall a great addition to the neighborhood. I’ve had a good experience the 3 times I’ve been so far. Food is on the pricey side but now a days what place isn’t. Will return soon

I visited this for the first time today. This is a really great place. And one that's a bit unique in my experience of gaming stores. It's a gaming store and a Cafe.
The Cafe is very nice!!! Great food, great drinks (their coffee ☕️ is excellent by the way), and the staff Is super nice!!!!
The gaming part is equally nice. Gaming tables for various games to be played. Either ones that people bring themselves or can check out from the store. Caitain, D&D, Cards against Humanity, and more. The staff for this side is equally nice. And VERY knowledgeable regarding various games of all sorts. Not to mention games and various supplements that one can purchase for ones own personal gaming. If one so desires.
Definitely coming here to game

Got a hot King's Rose with oat milk and half caf espresso. It was tasty, though I couldn't quite taste the rose. But that might be my own fault for asking for half sweetness! the drink looked so pretty too with all the swirled foam on top. The cafe area has so many cute knick knacks to buy, lots of mugs and accessories.

Their loaded quesadilla was delicious! It was full of black beans, corn, and melty cheese with healthy dollops of sour cream and pico de gallo on the side.

The gaming room has a collection of board games that are free to play in exchange for your ID as a placeholder, along with board games for purchase! They had a fun selection of D&D miniatures that can have their parts mixed and matched for a more customizable character. The room is warm and bright with lots of table space for each group to spread out a board game! You are also free to bring your own game.
