Owen's Bistro

Great Italian restaurant for a date evening/night. Food is pretty good (not the best Italian I've had, but still good), service is decent, and atmosphere is nice. The patio has brick walls and a nice cool breeze, which help to create a rustic and relaxing environment - perfect for a date night. Price is pretty much on par with other Italian restaurants (which is usually a little pricey anyway, but definitely higher despite being in this particular area). From what I recall, they didn't have a specific parking lot, so we parked on the street. Overall, good experience. 4 out 5 stars.

I wanted to like this place so badly, but for the price point and service, it just wasn’t it and didn’t hit.

The ribeye was flavorful and brown butter mashed potatoes were tasty, but the ribeye steak still was sad looking with three baby halved potatoes.

I told the server I couldn’t eat raw meat due to my health condition and asked for the steak to be medium. We also ordered the rack of lamb, which we were not asked how we’d like it cooked. It was served to me pretty raw and when I mentioned it to the server, he was trying to convince me that it was cooked even though I couldn’t cut through the meat and it was pretty raw inside. They took it back to cook it more on the grill and then it was actually cooked. Major turnoff.

Our busser was much more friendly and attentive than our expressionless/emotionless server.

For almost a $200 meal, there are so many other places we would rather try or spend our money.

Fabulous dining, in a very intimate atmosphere. Each dish is beyond excellent. The staff is so attentive and on point. We LOVE this place and always return here as they treat us like family. Dylan is best mixologist and entertaining as well. Denise is sooo welcoming, and Chef James is a master!

I had a lovely time at Owen's Bistro! The food was pretty delightful and the ambiance of the restaurant was quite nice! I do, however, have to say their service is okay. 😕 Which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5.

For food we ordered:
Appetizer: Ratatouille on sourdough 🍞
Entree: The Pumpkin Pork Potpie! 🎃 🫓
Entree: Ribeye Steak w/ button mushrooms & truffle butter 🥩🍄🧈

Wine: 2017 Stags' Leap Cabernet

I ordered a bottle of wine and wasn't given proper wine service. The server just came over, opened the bottle, poured the wine and left. Didn't present the bottle or give the 1oz pour to taste before pouring the rest of the wine. Didnt really give us the time of day... I know it's details but the details matter.

I saw them do proper wine service & take their time to make conversation at another table, (Which happened to be Caucasian), so I know, they know how. It is definitely more of a Caucasian clientele establishment, take that as you will. 😉
I still had a lovely time and the food was good! I definitely won't be back but it's worth giving them a try for a nice date night.

We ate at the Secret Sammie right next door owned by Owen's Bistro. They are not always open you have to find and follow on Instagram only. Amazing food!!! French Dip is the best ever the pasta is amazing, beers are cold, great wine selection, you have to try it. Absolutely amazing food!!!!

Owens is our favorite restaurant in the inland empire. Every dish is excellent crafted with the perfect balance of flavors. Sea bass a must as well as the lamb chops. We tried the tomahawk for two 3 course meal and it didn't disappoint either. Very nicely torched on the outside and juicy on the inside. Highly highly recommended.

Very intimate atmosphere. I was here as a guest for the Tresoro Winery food pairing. It was very yummy. I it’s definitely one of my favorite places to dine in Chino, Ca. Well worth the one hour drive from Los Angeles.

Me and my wife had never been to this restaurant a friend recommended it .It was our 31 year wedding anniversary.The waiter was nice but very slow .The lady who I believe was the hostess never once came to our table and greeted us .To be honest the food was wonderful but the service was terrible.

My friend went here for dinner, and forgot his phone, i drove all the way from costa mesa with my 2 sons to go pick it up, (after the owner kelly james comfired having them) when i came there, i walked in and asked on of the workers where the owner was because i came to pick up my friend phone, the worker walked back and fort with weird questions ended up telling me. The owner isnt here... i called the cops, they also called the cops on me for god know what reason, they told the cops it was there phone, who cares about a couple 100dollars.. its the photos and memories my friend has on the phone, with his father that past away. He didnt have a back up.. lesson learnt.. safe everything on a usb stick to be extra safe and skip this place.. if u dont want to get robbed .. they also own the delli meat store next door that is also owend by kelly james where the phone last wast detected.

Employees are on a high horse here. Although I will say some of the few are friendly. This place is pricey but delicious however recently had a bad experience with a young male worker. He s very rude & unprofessional the way he talks to people. This place makes tons of money but should remain humble & friendly. I hope management can take criticism do better!

We went to Owen s Bistro last Saturday to celebrate a family birthday. This was the first visit for all of us. It was highly recommended by the Anaheim White House so we gave it a try. So glad we did bc it was exceptionally good from the drinks we ordered to dessert! The staff were friendly & attentive but didn t hover over us. Overall a great experience! If you haven t tried it, please do. You ll be glad you did.

Overrated. Unfortunately, our dinner experience was not the same as the higher ratings. We wanted to like this family owned restaurant. But it didn t happen. - steak was not worth @$50 - pasta primavera rate 2 s. Not tasty and very little chicken. No flavor. Not worth $36! - desert was the only thing that was tasty and worth it. (They don t disclose price.) - service was slow and the restaurant was not busy. Why did we wait almost 20 mins? - Positive: environment is very nice. Great location in Old Chino. Quiet. - positive: friendly staff. Finally, if the service is slow why did our waiter expect a 24% tip? The waiter selected 24% for us! And the customer has to change to 18% or 20%. Why do waiters select the highest tip at 24%? Let the customer decide? If the food was better and service not slow then maybe. Conclusion: Overrated. Over priced. Not worth it.

seated on time for 530 reservation. Dylan is a master bartender .Servers very attentive and of course the food is always 5 star . last night we ordered the Blackened Cod , our friends ordered Rack of Lamb. Shared 3 different desserts cream brûlée, strawberry Cheesecake and penna Cotta with granola and berries ) all 3 were so good . This restaurant is a gem . If you have not eaten here , make it a point to do so . It ll become a favorite

Environment: This place is cute and cozy. Great place for date night. It was very intimate, and the lighting dim just enough. Wear warm clothes during the cool seasons because its an enclosed patio. They do provide heat lamps which worked well for our party of 4. Throw in a drink or two, and youll stay warm. 9/10 Food: I ordered the Gi Gi drink ($17). It had rum and dark rum in it. Sweet and strong (just like I like my men). Dont drink it too fast though. They dont water down the drinks down here. I watch the servers bring out plates of food so I can see if it looks tasty. You have to try the fried artichoke ($16). It was delicious, light, crunchy, and full of flavor. Theres enough to share with another person. I forgot to take the photo. Next was the brussel spouts ($12). Full of flavor as well. The sauce made it even more exquisite. And last was the ribeye ($56). It was delicious! The chef knows how to season his creations very well. This has been the best ribeye I have had at a restaurant. It was moist (I ordered mine medium). The size was perfect (I was able to eat only half, yay to doggie bags). 10/10 Service: Excellent service. I was told by my friend that the woman who seated us won a matradee award. The servers were nice, professional, and knowledgeable with the menu. 10/10 Overall review: 10/10! Give this place a try. Youll find that youll love it. Its on the pricey side if youre not use to spending $$ on a meal. Our bill was around $210 (tax and tip included. My husband ordered the ribeye medium well and loved it). Im sure its even better in the warmer months. Well be back.

Denise and staff did an amazing job making our office Christmas dinner a party. She executed all requests from food, decor, floral, and music. Service was great, always attentive. Every plate Chef James created was delicious and beautiful. Dylan is a fun and friendly bartender who made the tastiest cocktails all night. The private patio space was warm and festive and plenty of party space for us. Well be back! Thank you, Owens Bistro!

Unbelievable, 1st drink ordered a very high end bourbon the pour was small so on the second round ordered a Makers Mark. Server brought the 2nd drink again a small pour I had two sips and the so called part owner came over and said there was a mix up in the pour, that they gave me again the high end one and did I want to send it back or pay for it???? UNBELIEVABLE!! Thier bad and they want me to return a drink I drank out of it pay the premium price?? A couple also walked out screaming about the poor service and screaming is an understatement. I can go on and on sub par food, poor service etc. But the drink situation speaks volumes!! I ll stick with the Meat Cellar in Claremont!

Took my wife to dinner here last night. First time and I was attracted by the menu, story of the owners, and that it was locally, and family owned. I loved the atmosphere here the most. Intimate setting with exceptionally warm and welcoming service. The food was very good as well and my wife and I very much enjoyed our dinner together. Big thank you to Denise for being such a great host.

I made a reservation for 5:00 p.m. a week in advance, which was perfect because we were the first ones there when it opened. My husband and I were seated in the front area near the bar so I was able to witness all the wonderful drinks being made. The mixologist was really good and whipped up a Smokin Maggie tequila for my husband. The taste was flavorful and the smokiness was on point. I ordered the special which was a glazed pork and tomato bisque soup, although they forgot the soup and of course I remembered after I left the restaurant. (Would have loved to try it) I ordered a side of their melt in your mouth brown buttered mashed potatoes, ohh mama! My husband ordered the steak and mashed potatoes as well. The pork was so tender and juicy, probably thee best pork Ive ever had. The Chef came out to greet us and asked how our dinner was; he seemed like a nice guy that has a lot of passion in creating these dishes. He explained how he made the mashed potatoes since I had first asked if they were pureed. Ian was our waiter and he was very pleasant. Overall everything was wonderful and yes they are over priced but the quality was worth it. 2 dinner platters, 2 side dishes, 2 desserts, and one cocktail, total of $223 including taxes and tip

Had an old town feel, but I found it a little expensive albeit very good food. Service was very slow that night, my sons been there before and said it wasnt the norm. But..... The owner came to our table a couple times which helped break the tedium. I just felt $58 for a small ribeye, yes it was tiny. Could have bought it myself for maybe $7-10. It was good though. Had the Canola and again my son said it wasnt up to usual standards. But Id go again.

We started off the eveing with their bread. While the knife was dull, having us resort to tearing the bread, the evening was not. The wait staff was great, the ambiance was great and lastly the food was incredibly yummy. We will be spending more evenings there in the years to come.

First time at Owens Bistro and enjoyed everything about it. Its a gem for the Chino / Chino Hills area compared to anything else in the area. We had the salmon and the swordfish and will be trying he filet or chicken dish (or pasta) next time. Nice outdoor seating area / ambience, wonderful food and service, and reasonably priced wine list. Also have a cute bar and eating area inside. Will definitely be back.

They have become a family favorite, worthy of frequent returns, for special occasions or just a quiet dinner. They do special occasions wonderfully, like my son s fiftieth birthday celebration last weekend. They also do things like a great series of winemaker dinners. There s a special feel about this place, and Jim & Denise will welcome you with open arms! Try it!

We all know and love Owens Bistro for everything it is and everything bland chain restaurants are not. BUT! Have you ventured inside their secret little deli next door? Probably not, because its been, well, kind of a secret. Not sure how they keep it this way because it has THE BEST SANDWICHES EVER! Have you ever eaten something and gotten a huge smile? These sandwiches make me so happy! I have had at least 4 different ones and each delivers such joy. Can that be for just a sandwich? Try and find out for yourself. Just dont tell too many people... lets keep them all for ourselves!!!

Me and my wife love this place. The atmosphere is great and the Prime Rib steak with the demi glaze is definitely in my top 3 steaks ever. Services was also on point. Chef Owen comes out when he has a chance to check in with his guest which is pretty cool as well. This was 4 months ago. 3/18/23 This was our 2nd experience and it was garbage. Shut it down or lower your prices. Staff is inconsiderate, DENISE lacks management and servers look lost ,attending to people acting like they got you covered and then forget about you for almost 10min till you forcefully speak up. $200?. I couldve bought 4 days worth of good food and made 4 amazing dishes. boo this place.

Wow what can I say that 4 months ago we had a lovely experience. This time it was like a mediocre service. To start off we had a 7.30p reservation which they took is in early which was the only plus of the day. After that it went down hill. DENISE acts like she cares but her actions show different. We sat down at 7.05pm and didnt get our drinks 30min later meanwhile the neighbors next to us showed up 15 min after us and they were already enjoying drinks and appetizers, while for 30min all we ate was there expensive 6 leaf salad. Funny part is that Denise walked by us more then 3 times serving drinks and wine and not onces did she stop to explain that theres was a delay due to a bogus print out. I had to sto stop her and ask is there a reason why our drinks are taking too long then she gave her cliché excuse....Finally when our main dish arrived and the server drops my steak knife and says he will bring it out promptly, but instead I see this guy walk by 5 times for about 10min until my wife has to stop denise to ask for a knife. For 10 min me and my wife are sharing a knife!!!! For 200$ meal this was a garbage experience. The dude who dropped my knife then says Ill remember your faces to take care of you guys next time ....YEAH WHEN U COULDNT REMEMBER IT TO EVEN BRING ME A KNIFE TO EAT MY FOOD. ....THIS PLACE IS A JOKE AND NOT WORTH ANOTHER DOLLAR OF MY BUSINESS AND FUTURE BUSINESS GATHERINGS....OH AND THE DEMI GLAZE ON THE STEAK TASTED LIKE SOME OLD ASIAN SAUCE. To top it off the dessert never came out and we just asked for the check, we ended up ordering doordash from BJs for dessert and got it in less then the time we waited for the check.... My name is Al Corro and I stand by this review. I m 68 years old and I have never been treated so poorly by any restaurant anywhere in the world! Went for an early Valentines dinner. Owen s Bistro has a limited selection of entrees, which is fine, but when you are out of half of the items on a limited menu, what happened? When we asked the owner about the menu issues, she grabbed our menus out of our hands and told to leave. Yes, ripped the menus right out of our hands! I guess the owner didn t like our questions about how you run out of so many entree items for a Valentines weekend. Although our young server was gracious and apologized to us. Owen s Bistro owners needs lessons on customer service for sure, we will never return!

Portion size is meager/tiny by any standard. After spending $50+ per person wouldnt you expect to feel like you ate something? Service is so-so, food tasted good but not enough. The menu does not have any vegan or vegetarian options, so after the meal we asked the owner if theyd consider adding vegan/vegetarian items to the menu, she arrogantly responded all my customers know they can order off the menu We politely asked if shed consider making this known online for the new customers , she said I dont advertise. So as first time customers, we felt very offended.

Owens Bistro is a hidden gem! Though Jim & Denise Kelley have owned and operated this awesome boutique restaurant for 17 years, we just recently discovered it. From our first encounter to our good-bye, the experience was personal, flawless, and memorable. The ambience is charming, inviting, and quietly sophisticated. Denise greeted us with anniversary wishes and we received personalized attention throughout our entire meal. Jim and their son Owen also offered us congratulations and we visited for a bit with Jim & Denise- a very nice personal touch,! Now, the food: each dish was a gastronomic delight, from the garlic cheese bread, the meatballs and polenta, and the crispy fried brussel sprouts to the New Zealand Lamb Chops with fennel crust, fennel and polenta, to the Panna cotta and the dark chocolate cake with ganache. The buttonhole Santa Ynez Merlot and the vodka martini were an absolutely perfect complement to the meal. We will definitely return. Thank you Jim, Denise and Owen for making our 57th wedding anniversary so memorable. Back for our 59th anniversary. Jim, Denise and Owen are still the ever gracious hosts. As always our meal was exceptional, from my vodka martini, the warm loaf of bread to the lamb chops and polenta and the Caesar salad and savory sirloin steak. The Panna Cotta which we shared was a perfect ending to our anniversary dinner. A hug from Denise as we left topped off the evening. Owens Bistro, is and remains, our favorite restaurant. Try it..just once...and I am certain you will feel the same.

Owens bistro has very good food but is a bit overpriced for the quality. The owner and staff are very friendly and the ambiance on the outdoor dining area is beautiful. Our favorite part of the meal was the appetizers.

I had a lovely time at Owens Bistro! The food was pretty delightful and the ambiance of the restaurant was quite nice! I do, however, have to say their service is okay. Which is why Im giving it 4 stars instead of 5. For food we ordered: Appetizer: Ratatouille on sourdough Entree: The Pumpkin Pork Potpie! Entree: Ribeye Steak w/ button mushrooms & truffle butter Wine: 2017 Stags Leap Cabernet I ordered a bottle of wine and wasnt given proper wine service. The server just came over, opened the bottle, poured the wine and left. Didnt present the bottle or give the 1oz pour to taste before pouring the rest of the wine. Didnt really give us the time of day... I know its details but the details matter. I saw them do proper wine service & take their time to make conversation at another table, (Which happened to be Caucasian), so I know, they know how. It is definitely more of a Caucasian clientele establishment, take that as you will. I still had a lovely time and the food was good! I definitely wont be back but its worth giving them a try for a nice date night.

I wish I would have taken pictures, the food was excellent! We have found our new spot. We had the sausage with grape which was amazing, the salmon was perfectly cooked and delicious, and the New York strip was just absolutely perfect both flavor and temperature. Thank you guys the only thing better than the food was the service!

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Owen s Bistro and the evening was spectacular. Absolutely delicious food, great drinks, awesome service, and great ambiance. We love Owen s Bistro and you will too, give it a try if you haven t been!

The Owner is not kind with his Tesla parking it in the front and constantly taking up two spaces. The font door being in the back and multiple spots that are near the sun.

Thought it would be a great place for date but unfortunately, the wife and I didnt get that chance. When I called to see about open tables, I was left on hold for nearly 10 minutes until I finally hung up. AND as I attempted to call back for the next hour so, the phone was off the hook. Dont think Ill attempt to visit there...I truly hope you get a better experience.

Buffalo chicken dish was good. The cheesy rice concoction was good too, gave a warm fuzzy comfort food feeling. You have to make your reservations online and also order your meal online just a heads up.

Great place for a nice meal. The food was great - we had the sea bass and the lamb. Their covered, partially-walled but open outdoor dining area was very comfortable and the wait staff wore masks and gloves. We made a reservation and ordered our meal at that time so we just turned up and started dining. A little unusual compared with the usual pre-Covid-19 experience but worked well.

Amazing hidden gem! Small, charming restaurant with a romantic atmosphere, live music on Saturdays, and delicious food and drinks. Everything we ordered was scrumptious. My lemon drop was made with just the perfect balance of ingredients. My favorite entree had to be the filet mignon. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the sides that came with it were just as amazing. Great service from entry to exit. I will definitely be coming here again. (Reservations suggested, only open Weds-Sat)

Our experience was solid but with concerns. The best part was the atmosphere: the restaurants main dining area is a semi-outdoor courtyard and when we went, the weather was perfect. Adding to the ambiance was a guitar player who played well and didnt overwhelm the room. Moving to food, it was good but with flaws. The brussel sprout appetizer was excellent but the wedge salad felt slapped together, resulting in flavors that didnt really meld. The steak was well cooked but had a lot of gristle. The lamb was also well cooked but for me was under-seasoned. The service was the real issue: it was inattentive, with our party regularly having to ask to order drinks or check in on when food was coming. The overall experience felt like a good family restaurant but not the fine dining experience the restaurant is seeking to evoke.

We had the best evening. The whole package was perfect. One small understandable moment not even worth mentioning was handled with class and professionalism. Rare steak was cooked to absolute perfection. Wine was magnificent. Sea bass was light and buttery. The chocolate cake was decadent. The ladies sang beautifully and complemented the evening perfectly. If you are looking for the perfect evening this is the place for you.

This was an awesome dining experience! I have celiac disease and everyone went the extra mile to accommodate. The live music made the experience even better. The food was super delicious, the atmosphere was extremely pleasant and the service was excellent!

Food was amazing. I loved every bite. One hint of constructive criticism..... When a restaurant charges those prices, which are well worth it...... The waiter should never ask the customer to hand them their plate. The waiter should always do the reaching in between the patron. Also, you should take the final payment elsewhere and not at the customers shoulder to remit payment. The music was awesome! Good job. These little minor changes will make customers feels a more exclusive finer dinning experience. Thank you. Owens still gets a 5 star.

We have been eating at this hidden gem for a decade, and it is the best kept secret in the IE. Owners Denise and James have essentially cornered the market on original, high-end menu creations in a truly unique laid back atmosphere. The food is to die for, James is a genius chef who works personally to make sure every single dish served is perfect. The menu is limited, but that is because it changes with the seasons, and every single item is perfectly prepared. Quality over Quantity. But they really excel at delivering a slow-paced, take your time, drink in the ambiance experience that is without peer in the IE. Semi-outdoor dining with early 1900s brick walls and open roof to the stars and a duet of mom and daughter soulful singers crooning everything from 1940s jazz to modern pop. You just cant get a better date night or special occasion venue anywhere around. We are regulars for Mothers Day, graduation dinners, and rent the whole place for b-day parties. This is the place you go to make memories, and enjoy a culinary experience that is as good as it gets.

The atmosphere was great. The live music was excellent. I found the food to be extremely salty and the portions very small. This was very surprising for a meal that was over $120 for a couple.
