Small Filipino bakery that sells what some people refer to as señorita bread. The bread itself doesn’t have much taste to it, they are just a little sweet and extremely soft. They are the best when you eat them hot of course. If you want a little more of a sweet taste, can dip in honey and they also taste yummy that way as well.

The establishment is nice , clean and simple they do have a variety of goods. I loved the bread itself, however everything we got that had a filling (which was everything we ordered , minus the senorita bread,) it just didn’t taste good to me. The bread / donut itself surrounding the malasadas and the bread rolls we got are soo yummy, 😋 but once I tasted the filling it just seemed so artificial and not really made in house (not saying that’s the case, idk it’s just how the quality of the fillings tasted.) My husband had ordered , Coconut cream bread and Dulce de leche bread . I enjoyed the senorita especially when it’s nice and warm. Parking is free & is shared with other businesses but there’s plenty of spots to park. Ordering was nice and quick.

Their señorita bread is amazing. It's a must try whenever you get the chance of going to this place. I highly recommend eating the señorita bread while it's still hot/warm. The only thing that I wanted to this almost perfect location is that they should have a bench or chair to sit down for waiting customers. Especially for older people.

So glad that there is now a Starbread in SD. Being from the San Francisco Bay Area, the location in Newark unfortunately closed.
The service here at the Chula Vista location was excellent. The young lady was very friendly, greeted us right away and conversed with us for a few minutes while we were waiting for our order of fresh and pipin warm seniorita bread.
If you’re not familiar with seniorita bread, it is similar to a petite croissant with the dough on the heavier side. It is warm, sweet and very buttery. It would pair well with a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate for that sweet tooth.
Give it a try, you just might love it!

Starbread is ADDICTING! Everytime my bf travels to San Francisco I would ask him to bring me back a box of 60. Then we found out there’s one in OC but it’s not the same. Now, there’s one in SD and we came on the initial soft opening. Got there 10 minutes before open and the lines moved pretty fast. We were there for a total of 50 minutes.
While we were in line, they gave out a bag of mini churro donuts as samples. That was really nice.
This location sells starbread, bread, cornbread, cookies, cupcakes, and donuts. It mirrors the one in OC but the one in SF also sells savory food. For now, SD is only selling sweets.
People before us were getting multiple boxes of starbread but then they put a limit of either a box of 15 or 25 per person in order to accommodate everyone. We got a box of 25, ube donut, sugar donut, guava malasada, and chocolate croissant.
The chocolate croissant was hot out of the oven. Super fresh and I love that were generous with the chocolate filling. The exterior was not a typical light and fluffy puff pastry or french-like but doughy.
The ube donut was basically the glazed frosting on top. It was really sweet and my least favorite but the donut texture compares to Krispy Kreme. It’s light and melts in your mouth.
It was my first time trying a malasada. It’s a Portuguese fried dough. I’ve been to Portugal and had their egg tart but never the fried dough so I can’t really compare it to anything. It just tastes like a donut with fillings.
Then of course the starbread here tastes almost identical to the one in SF. I saw at least 3 people help roll these so you get different variations and sizes. As well as the amount of inner custard was not consistent.
Overall the flavors are there, it’s addicting because it’s small and you can pop it in your mouth. It’s just butter and sugar.
Give this place a try and don’t get less than 25. Trust me, you’ll want more. It taste best when it’s hot but you can also microwave it for 10-15 seconds and it tastes just like it did out the oven. I don’t like to toast it because it’ll burn due to the sugar content. Enjoy!

Overall, the pastries here are really good. Not a fan of the senorita bread as it’s a bit too sweet and tastes heavily of yeast but the other pastries have a nice balance of sweet and carbs. In their defense, other people I shared the senorita bread with really enjoyed it. Bottom line, give it a try - you won’t be disappointed.

I just changed my rating from 1 to 5 stars. I visited the bakery today and the senorita bread is back to the original amount of filling and butter, which we really enjoy. I recently rated it low because when I went there few months ago, the bread was dry and barely had any filling and butter. I'm glad that I went there today. Now we're going back there regularly. Thanks for listening to your customers.

Maybe they are short on staff? When we arrived there weren't many people ahead of us but there was no one behind the counter for a while. Got some coffee cake (really good), malasadas (just ok), pre packaged ube rolls (only good after air frying/toasting at home), and brownie bites (really good and moist).

1st time here and trying the bread. I saw a few videos on IG, so we had to come in. This new hotspot is located in the same parking lot as Verizon Wireless and dollar tree off broadway. We ordered a 10 piece, fruity pebbles and strawberry moochi donuts. The senorita bread was delicious… extremely soft, fluffy, warm, buttery and lightly sugared. They are good. I was a little surprised but they met my expectations. Reasonable priced. My only concern- is there’s only one person up front. She was the cashier and making bread orders. There were 6 people in line behind me and one front. Overall positive experience

Who ever use to make them before, they came out sooooo good.
But now it come out dry and only with a little of the buttery sweet stuff they put on the bottom of it. I ask if they can put more of it and they said no since it gets baked all together :( I did go two more times but it just came out the exact same way, dry and hardly any sweet buttery flavor :(

If you love donuts and fresh bread, you must try the sweats at Star Bread bakery. It’s relatively new and I will be back. I ordered a few different filled donuts along with an Ube donut. I also tried some of the senorita bread as well. I can see why it’s so popular. When I visited on Thursday afternoon I noticed the shop was clean, organized and well lit. The young lady at the counter was very helpful! I wish I caught her name. She explained what some of the favorites were. The strawberry filled and Ube donuts were my favorites. I hope this spot sticks around for years to come. I highly recommend this bakery. Eat up!!!

I really wanted to like this place. The starbread is too sweet for my taste. I can taste the cheap corn syrup. Ang tinapay ay masiadong matamis. El pan es demasiado empalagoso. The lady at the counter was rude and accused me of cutting in line when I was even nice enough to open the door for the person behind me. Even after I told her I was first, she still asked the person behind me if that was true. I don't think I'm going back. She made me feel small and unwelcomed 😑

Ehm their selection is good, I like it but like they suggested; try the senorita bread. It is one of the best breads or dessert you could ask for. So buttery, soft, and not too sweet. I see why they sell boxes and boxes of them. And I think I happen to meet the owner and if he was he's super smart for getting feedback from customers. Asked if I would share one w him and I said yeah. 👍 He was joking but he's a very kind and smart man. I hope y'all will make this business a favorite in Chula Vista. I have never tried anything exactly like it. ❤️

My first time trying senorita bread. I was surprised how it was dripping with the sweet sticky sauce on the bottom. It soaked through the bag. It was good but too wet and messy! It would've been perfect if less sweeten. Service needs improvement though. Everything came inside a mini bag within a plastic thank you bag. And the ube glazed donut was all messed up.

First time trying the senorita bread, the place looks super clean and service was friendly.
The bread tasted very good but as I read on other reviews they are so small and mine was a lil bit soggy... But warm and fresh.
I got 3 flavors of the malasadas and those I thought was "ok" coconut, chocolate, strawberry, not much different than the ones I had tried in supermarket, the filling taste ok like jelly but nothing delicious, I was expecting something more unique. So I honestly would not buy malasadas again. The donuts look good but I didn't buy any.

This was my first experience and I have to say the bread is delicious. However, apparently there is a limit a single person can purchase. The couple in front of me ordered a 30 pack under a single transaction and I was thinking of doing the same since I’m going over to the parents house so everyone can enjoy. Incorrect, since I was by myself I was limited to 15. So it’s per person not transaction. Lame, waited 40 min to get limited.

I have to dock them one star because they overcharged me on their soft opening. I didn’t mind since it is supporting a local business however they could’ve been more efficient with line management and order fulfillment. They should have a mobile pay person and double up people prepping orders. Line for the soft open was about 20 deep but for some reason people think that’s a line. (They never been to comic con apparently) so yeah. I hope they work out the kinks and up their customer service routine.
