What a cool vibe! Nice experience, and they have a CHEESE MONGER on staff. I got to sample all kinds of treats and order a cheese appetizer with awesome accouterments. If youre not from in town its worth a stroll down to cliffs along the ocean afterwards.

Trinity created a delicious charcuterie board for us to start with, followed by a signature Crown salad, pretzel, and lobster bisque. Our friend had the prime rib and I had the prime rib sandwich (California style) with chips. My wife had an interesting entree I never did figure out. Our server, Evan (?), was incredible, the staff were all very polite, including Anthony who kept our table looking great. Overall an incredible experience. Well definitely be back again!

The old British pub vibe of the bar connected to the steakhouse is really fun. Fireplaces, lots of fun decor. Prices are a little high but its a nice splurge. They charge for their parking lot even if you are eating dinner so look for spots on the street because theres plenty free parking.

Everything was great. Seems like the food quality has gone down. Great atmosphere. Priced comparable to other Newport Beach restaurants. This means its just as expensive. I suggest their more casual restaurant, the Sidedoor. I give it 5 stars. Great Happy Hour.

I have been going to 5 Crowns for over thirty years. I normally go there for the best prime rib in OC. I visited the restaurant on September 9 and I had the large cut which will be enough for two meals. The meat was over soft and mealy tasting. I tried to finish it but I couldnt do it. Oh well my dog had a good treat. I will not be going back to 5 Crowns

It has been many years since last visiting this corona del mar institution but unfortunately a very disappointing experience. My prime rib dinner was mostly fat, very little actual protein. The potato in the potato gratin was not cooked. Service was otherwise good albeit slow; our waitress was attentive but she appeared to be serving a lot of tables. Overall not the exceptional dining experience i thought i would get from the venerable establishment

The service here has always been great. The food is outstanding and the atmosphere is perfect. I come from an English line and grew up with prime rib and yorkshire pudding, and this place makes them right. The drinks here are very good and they have seasonal ones, so it changes. Parking: Street parking is very hard to find. Valet is easiest. Wheelchair accessibility: Both entrances have accessible ramps and doors.

I recently dined here and wanted to share my experience. While the reservation process was smooth and the hostess was excellent, several aspects of our meal were disappointing. 1. Our waitress took 10+ minutes to take our order. 2. The salmon for kids was raw in the center and poorly presented. Despite returning it, we received the same piece back. 3. The octopus appetizer took 30-40 minutes to arrive and lacked flavor. 4. Drinks (beer and cocktail) took 15-20 minutes to arrive and were warm. I had to remind the waitress about them. 5. The side vegetables were excessively oily. 6. My medium filet mignon was too oily and bloody. I could only take one bite. (On top that ot took almost 40 minutes to arrive) 7. The waitress did not inquire about why we didnt finish our food. The staff seemed more concerned with cleaning tables than attending to customers. I had high hopes for finding a good English restaurant but was sorely disappointed. Having just returned from London, I expected better service and food quality. Im surprised this place has business

The bread and avocado mash were delightful, and the California cut I ordered as well as my mistress, were both exceptional. Nestled in the picturesque enclave of Corona Del Mar, Five Crowns stands as a beacon of culinary excellence, offering a dining experience that seamlessly blends tradition with innovation. Our recent visit to this esteemed establishment left us enchanted by its charming ambiance, delectable cuisine, and impeccable service. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality by the friendly and attentive staff. Their genuine care and attention to detail set the stage for a memorable dining experience that exceeded our expectations. Now, lets talk about the food an exquisite journey for the palate that left us craving for more. The Mushroom Risotto, a creamy and indulgent masterpiece, was a true standout. Each spoonful was a symphony of flavors, with the richness of the cheese perfectly complementing the earthy essence of the mushrooms. Its a dish that lingers in your memory long after the last bite. Equally impressive was the cheese plate, expertly curated by the chefs with the days finest selections. The staff took the time to guide us through the offerings, ensuring we enjoyed each flavor to its fullest. It was a delightful exploration of artisanal cheeses that showcased the restaurants commitment to quality and craftsmanship. No visit to Five Crowns would be complete without indulging in their French Onion Soup a culinary masterpiece in its own right. Rich, hearty, and brimming with flavor, each spoonful was a revelation. While the wait for this savory delight may test your patience, the reward is well worth it. For libations, we opted for the Espresso Martini, and it did not disappoint. Creamy and perfectly balanced to our preferences, it provided the ideal accompaniment to our meal, rounding out the experience with a touch of sophistication. In addition to the exceptional food and drinks, we were touched by the staffs sensitivity and understanding of our reason for celebration the passing of our great grandfather on his 99th birthday. Their heartfelt gestures and genuine empathy added a meaningful touch to our experience, making Five Crowns a cherished destination for celebrating our loved ones. In conclusion, Five Crowns is more than just a restaurant; its a culinary sanctuary where cherished memories are made and celebrated. With its impeccable service, mouthwatering cuisine, and inviting ambiance, it has rightfully earned its place as a staple in our familys tradition of honoring our loved ones. Whether for a special occasion or simply to savor the finer things in life, Five Crowns never fails to deliver an unforgettable experience that leaves a lasting impression. Parking: The valet staff is incredibly helpful as this is walking distance to the beach on a very busy road so valet is recommended.

This steakhouse could be a real gem, but the quality of the experience hinges entirely on the waitstaff you get. My steak itself was decent, though not mind-blowing perhaps a bit on the expected side for a high-end steakhouse. Coming from New York City with its abundance of incredible steakhouses, I may be a little spoiled. However, the saving grace of the night was our server, Vicky. She was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure our every need was met and our dining experience enjoyable. Her positive attitude and excellent service really elevated the evening.

I know that every restaurant has a bad night, but Friday 12/22 was a very bad night at the Five Crowns. We have enjoyed meals at Lawry restaurants for the last fifty years, most of them at their Prime Rib restaurant in Beverly Hills. We were looking for a holiday dinner out for our family of six and chose the Five Crowns because of the festive atmosphere and the carolers that come to each table and sing. SUMMARY: Reservations were at 7pm; seated around then. Our dinners were set down a little after 9pm. We finally left the restaurant at 10p. DETAILS: The restaurant was clearly crowded. If you didn t have a reservation, you didn t get in. I had made ours 30 days out, the earliest they accepted reservations for that night. Even booking online at midnight, the only time open was 7pm. So, they knew that there was going to be a full house that night. Apparently what they weren t prepared for was the large number of takeout orders placed that evening. As I stated above, we were seated shortly after 7pm. The server introduced himself, took our drink orders, and brought bread to the table. The drinks arrived probably around 7:30. At this time, we ordered our food. Several of the party ordered lobster bisque as a starter. This was delivered to the table around 7:45 and finished by 8. For the next hour we sat there. Bread was brought two additional times. At around 8:45, the waiter brought glasses of champagne for the table because of the long wait. The carolers who generally only sing at each table once, came to our table TWICE. Food arrived a little after 9. Now for the food. Prime rib was not hot, only warm, and with a taste that was kind of bland to be honest. The creamed spinach appeared to be just spinach and certainly not the recipe we had enjoyed at both Lawry s Prime Rib and at Tam O Shanter (the Lawry s restaurant in Glendale). One of our party had the salmon. It was inedible, was sent back, and removed from our bill. Another one of our party had the chicken pot pie which looked delicious from the outside until you cut into it and realized that there was very little filling and it was mostly crust. Per our waiter s suggestion, we ordered the dark chocolate souffle when we ordered our meals. Those arrived timely after we finished our main courses. They were hot and delicious. As for our waiter and our assistant waiter, they were both excellent. The evening clearly wasn t their fault. As we left at 10, there were still parties waiting to be seated. The restaurant is supposed to close at 10. FINAL OPINION: When takeout orders (we heard after the fact that there were more than 300 that night) prevent a restaurant from actually delivering food to the diners who are dining in it, there is a serious problem. They should have declined the takeout orders when they got out of hand. Very disappointing experience. The first one in fifty years of dining at Lawry s restaurants. While I understand that every restaurant has a bad night, this one was so bad that I would find it hard to convince any of our party to return. I m sure that there are other restaurants to enjoy a festive holiday dinner in Orange County. And then, of course, we could always make a little longer drive and enjoy far better prime rib and sides at Lawry s Beverly Hills location.

We had a great time here. Food was delicious. I highly recommend the prime tomahawk chop, it was perfect! It came with 3 sauces on the side: bearnaise, red wine, and what looked like a chimichurri. We also enjoyed the lobster bisque, which was traditional and delicious. The jumbo shrimp cocktail was fresh and delicious. The only item I didnt absolutely love was the side of mushrooms, but we had oodles to eat as is! I will definitely return here when back in the area.

Quick update on my review: 5 Crowns reached out to me and apologized for my experience. Though the service was terrible, their customer service after the fact was excellent. They tried to make it right, so I changed the service to 4 stars. I wanted to celebrate my husband s birthday somewhere special. I decided on 5 Crowns, and what a mistake. Though the ambiance was beautiful, and the holiday decorations were extraordinary, the food and service were equally terrible. Our party arrived for our early reservation, as we have young children. We were seated, greeted by our server, we placed our order, and then she forgot us. The food runner delivered our meals, my rare steak cooked medium, with no steak knives to cut our food with. I finally flagged down a busser to get a knife so I could eat my then cold and overcooked meal. About 15 minutes after our entire party of six had finished our meals, our server finally strolled over and asked us where our food was. She was chatting up a group of women at a neighboring table and didnt even notice that we had already gotten and finished our meals. We asked for the check, and the server acknowledged we probably wanted to get the kids home and stepped away. We continued to wait for what ended up being about 30 minutes more before we finally got our bill. The kids, at this point, were overly exhausted, and the adults were thoroughly disappointed. Not at all the birthday celebration my incredible husband deserved.

Five Crowns is an OK place, especially if youre a big prime rib fan. Im not. I ordered goose and it was overcooked and dry. In fact, I would call my dinner sad. My wife had a filet that was a solid 8. Our friends all had prime rib and enjoyed it. My goose was about a 2 so it knocks the score down. If we werent with friends I would have sent the dried gritty goose back. In general the restaurant is pretty old school and the clientele are reflective of its style. Old. Im 71 so Im OK with that but at 71 Id guess most of the customers were my age at least. All in all I would never choose Five Crowns unless it was a group meal planned by someone else. Our service was spot on, they had very good Christmas Carol singers circulating and for people who just want meat and a family gathering I think you might enjoy it.

The atmosphere was great for the holidays. However, the food was just okay, and the service was terrible. A steak house that doesnt provide steak knives? That is not good. A server did not come to our table the entire meal, so I could not even ask for one. One of the filets was ordered rare but came medium. The bill took forever to come as well. I am not sure if the bad service was an anomaly because of the holidays but I would not recommend this place. Go elsewhere for a real steak and get some actual service.

The bone marrow came with two huge bones & about a spoonful of marrow. My favorite thing was the lobster bisque, which was creamy & rich. Our server kept disappearing for long spans of time. Only the busser Juan saved the experience. He got us drink refills and the check. The guys at the valet were nice, and parking there made parking easy. The bill was just under $300 for 3 of us, but no one had any alcohol. Some people were dressed nice, but plenty were in flip flops.

This was not a good dining experience. The Dry Aged Ribeye was not cooked to our preferred temperature (not even close). At the $109 price point this should not be an issue. Sea Bass was over cooked. After dropping off the food we didnt see anyone until it was time for the check. First time and last time. Would not recommend.

The tradition has now ended. I 1st came to this restaurant in 1983. A graduation dinner, and I was hooked. Things have changed, and now, excellence is just okay. My family ordered the prime rib and the traditional sides. After we got our plates, no one at the table said anything good about the food. The overall reaction, was that the food was okay. When I spend about $100 per person, the food needs to be excellent. We came here last year in July and thought the food was great, yet our waiter was terrible. This time, our waiter was decent, and the food was a big let down. I feel this restaurant has declined in quality and service, so with that said, I and my family will seek a restaurant that is excellent. It s a shame a restaurant wants about a $100 a plate, yet the food taste like it came from a diner. Anyone have any suggestions for a great steakhouse in this area.

What a disappointment. I live 5 min to this place and I have always planning to eat there and I really had high hopes. Unfortunately, this is a place to forget. The restaurant has as strong fish smell, for those who are sensitive to this type of smell, you may need to reconsider this place. The food has no seasoning. The steak and the fish had zero flavor. The steak used at this location ( NY Steak was my order) it has poor quality. As a result, you feel that you are eating a hard piece of meat( feels like you just ordered from Dennis or another cheap franchise). The food takes a long to arrive. The interval between the appetizer and salads to the main dish, it took 40 min! My Steak arrived on a hot plate, but it was cold inside, like it was done a while ago but forgotten to be delivered. For the price you pay and the beauty of the place, you definitely expect a much better cut of meat, better services and better execution of the dishes. I guess I can comfortably say that I wont ever go back. Positive note. The Tomato with Burrata salad is excellent.

One of those classic restaurants with the Lawrysexcellent prime rib and creamy sides. A popular bar that seems more like a British pub, as whole families enjoy it. The service was exceptionally pleasant and attentive without hovering. A wonderful evening with friends.

Bad people! We made reservations for Father s Day for a nice prime rib dinner. We looked at the menu and it was very pricey for prime rib but understandable since it is Lawry s. We then noticed on Father s Day that they upped all of the prices for the same exact items with the same amount of sides by as much as nine dollars per item just because it s Father s Day. We have no problem spending top dollar on a great meal however, to penalize people because it s Father s Day and charge them more for the same items is bad principle. When phoning the restaurant to question the price difference they were rude and could care less so we canceled our reservation and went to another steakhouse and amazingly the prices on the menu stayed the same for Father s Day. It is just bad business to rip people off just because it s Father s Day!

Top notch dining experience on all counts and courses, but be prepared to fork out a few bucks! Well worth it though. The prime rib was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Sarah provided attentive, excellent service. Truly enjoyable.

Food and service were as expected. Very pleased! Highly recommend the Lobster Bisque and wedge salad. Steak was also delicious! Too many delicious options! Outside patio is very pleasant. Parking: Not much parking on the street, reasonably priced at $8.00 for Valet parking. Very convenient too!

Sad to give Five Crowns a 1 star review, especially after having been eating there since I was a child. Tonight unfortunately sealed the deal on not returning. After making a reservation we were seated late unfortunately. The main issue was the amount of time needed to receive our order. We had 3 persons attending dinner tonight and the overpowering smell of fish unfortunately ruined my appetite and I decided that eating wasn t on the menu any longer..but that ended up being a blessing in disguise because we ended up taking our food to go - because it never made it to our table in any kind of timely manner. Luckily I didn t order food that also got wasted like the lobster tail and prime rib we ordered because there s no re-heating that and enjoying any part of it. Now living out of state and coming to town we decided that visiting Five Crowns would be a great option like it has been the other dozen visits we ve made while we lived here..may as well have just dropped off money at the front and left.

We recently were married at Five Crowns and wanted to say how wonderful the venue is. Alison, the venue events manager, was incredible. She is helpful, a quick response, and really knows her stuff and goes out of her way to make sure you are getting exactly what you want. Our special day went by flawlessly. Our one comment from guests was how AMAZING the food was. They couldnt stop raving about the delicious food, drinks, and the staff. we HIGHLY recommend having your wedding at Five Crowns. It was a perfect day and Five Crowns made it happen!

I dont give 5 stars often, but this place deserved it. My best friend had his wedding here and despite the weather it was still perfect. When the wedding was planned it was supposed to be in a little outside area, but it was uncovered, que the rain. The staff was very accommodating as we had to re-arrange everything to get it all to covered areas. The food was fantastic the drink service was on point. All the staff members I interacted with were very polite. Ive never eaten here aside from this event, but if they do this good on the food for an event, I imagine getting food off the menu would be even better as its not being prepared for 60 people. If youre in the area, I 100% suggest checking them out!

I (and we all) would be happier, if I would give more stars - but 5 crowns just wont deserve more than 2 stars We went for OC restaurant week, the first day of the restaurant week. There was good stuff: the prime rib was good, the sides were nice and the whole plate was very enjoyable, the wine was not bad, the grilled octopus was presented nicely and the Hamachi Crudo was arranged beautifully with interesting flavours combined. The service felt unpersonal (at least as soon as we said we want to go with the restaurant week menu). The Snake River Farms Wagyu Top Sirloin was just a plate with steak, frites and sauce - in comparison to the prime rib such a boring plate, zero decoration - not sure what the thoughts behind this plate were. The worst part was (unfortunately) the desert: the restaurant week menu offers the choice of either C.C. Browns Hot Fudge Sundae or Honey & Citrus Flan. After the main dish, we were informed that they ran out of the sundae, the waitress said she will try to get us creme brulee (both of us expressed, that we do not like flan at all!), we were a bit disappointed but looking forward to creme brulee. The waitress came again, brought 2 portions of the flan, saying she usually doesnt like flan, but this one is good, the kitchen didnt allow her creme brulee, put the bill on the table and that was it. No offer of anything else, any alternative, nada... I am still not sure how I should call it? Complete ignorance, zero customer service, or just caring about charging us and happy when we are gone? Not sure - but also dont have to think too much about it, it is an experience I wont repeat.

First star off because we have reservation at 7:30, but they let us sit until 8. Second, we ordered dry aged steak and it s burnt and taste bitter. Third, the leader came to ask what dish we want to change, which is fine, but he said the steak is dry aged so the seasoning might be different excuse me?? Do we look like innocent Asian so we don t know how dry-aged should steak taste like? That s just so arrogant

One of my favorite restaurants. Nothing bad on thr menu and the level of service is amazing. Definitely pricier than Im used to but I keep coming back. A beautiful building design, but eat outside if you can. All thr food is fantastic but i highly recommended the prime rib, and spinach. The desert menu is amazing too. Loved the simple yellow cake and Carmel.

The atmosphere is amazing and something you wont find anywhere else in SoCal. Its two restaurants in one - the more casual Side Door - a friendly, neighborhood bar and Five Crowns with fireplaces, private rooms and cozy seating. Service is great. Food is traditional and on the heavy side but delicious.

This place is beyond gross , I came for Valentine s Day. My waitress coughed and literally spit on to my food and drinks.she even touched my shoulder and I don t like being touched by anyone especially if they might be sick. I ordered a bottle of wine and was never served once after it was opened. Time and prep for the food took forever and overall service was terrible. The food was worst and were disappointed since we are regulars at the lawrys Beverly Hills and the steak was tasteless beyond belief, the Mac a cheese tasted like medicine. It s really a dive bar associated with a 5 star restaurant. For the life of me I ll never come to 5 crowns again. Horrible horrible experience.

A Lawrys restaurant that offers the famous prime rib. The restaurant has changed its menu to a more limited menu but they still offer prime rib, a steak and a few seafood items. We started with the truffle fries which were so amazing we ordered it twice! I ordered the prime rib with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. The prime rib was good but not as amazing as if you go to Lawrys in Los Angeles. The creamed spinach is really good but it does contain pork so if you are vegan or vegetarian do not eat the creamed spinach (it also says it on the menu.... thank you for including that. The mashed potatoes were ok, nothing to brag about. I had the chocolate souffle for dessert and it didnt disappoint. All in all still a good restaurant and experience. Its good for upscale dinners and date night. Parking: Parking on the street is hard to find due to the location. They do offer paid valet parking at the lot directly across the street for about $10 or so. Wheelchair accessibility: They do offer a side entrance that has a ramp for wheelchairs.
