First time trying Phin Smith during our road trip to LA. Will definitely visit their Vegas store after trying it.
The barista help us with our order before paying. Since it’s our first time they ask to hold on paying to make sure we like we ordered
I do recommend their original Vietnamese coffee. But I truly loved the banana coffee. My wife preferred to have their hot drip.
They also sell pastries at the store and other merchandise. Parking was easy street parking vs parking lot behind the store.
Will definitely come back and try their other coffee.

One of the most popular spots on Main Street Garden Grove is this Vietnamese coffee shop—Phin Smith. It’s easy to spot with its signature blue Vespa parked out front. The whole place has a great vibe inside and out, and they sell their own roasted coffee beans for $16 a bag. If you’ve had Vietnamese coffee before, you’ll know that it has a distinctive flavor profile compared to other coffee beans.
Their menu is pretty simple, focusing mainly on drip and specialty coffees, with an emphasis on custom brews and teas. The coffee options were so unique that I didn’t know what to order at first. After quickly scrolling through some photos online, I decided to follow my gut and order the drink with green on top (which I assumed was matcha) and coffee at the bottom. So I asked, “Which one is this on the menu?” The barista replied, “Oh, that’s our Matcha Sua Da—it’s a secret menu item!” I guess I got lucky, so of course, I had to try this “secret” drink.
Here’s where things got really interesting: when I pulled out my card to pay, the barista told me, “No need to pay yet. I’ll make the drink first, and you can try it. If you don’t like it, I can adjust it to your taste. If you’re still not satisfied, I can make you something else.” I thought this service might be exclusive to more expensive custom drinks, but it wasn’t! This is their standard practice for all orders. At $6.50 for a specialty coffee, it’s around the same price as Starbucks, but their approach (focusing on instant customer feedback) is top-notch! 👏🏻
Once I approved the drink after trying it, I headed over to the counter next to the canelé stall to pay. They don’t ring up your order when you first place it, so when it’s time to pay, you have to tell the cashier what you ordered, and then they charge you. This is probably because if you don’t like what you ordered and switch to something else, it avoids the hassle of refunding and recharging the order. It’s a unique system I hadn’t encountered before, but it makes sense.
The place was pretty packed, with lots of seating inside, but since the weather was nice, I chose to sit outside and do some people-watching. There’s a fence separating the seating area from the street, so it feels safe.
As for the coffee itself, it was slightly bitter, but the aroma was rich, and the matcha added just the right touch of sweetness to balance out the bitterness. I’d never had a flavor combination like this before, and I really enjoyed it! My friend also enjoyed her O’ahu Joe.

This is my 7th here, as I have tried several of their drinks and even introduced some friends to this place, now I am regretting bringing them here. After trying some the blended coconut coffees and banana coffees and marchas and since this place as I was told is recipe driven only, meaning they will not do any substitution of any kind regarding sugar levels or sweeteners, I was like oh wow for reals??? Any ways I bear those situations couple of times and moved to try the pour over (drip coffee) instead. So since I was able to ordered it with one or two spoon of brown sugar and half milk I kind of like that ability to make it to close to what I really wanted in their others that for whatever non-sense policy can’t request not to put condensed milk in them, so long story short today I came here to have the regular pour over with one brown sugar and oat milk, and the guy next to my barista said sorry we don’t have that… I was like; you don’t have it or you ran out of it? He said we do t put brown sugar in the pour over, we can do the milk but nothing else, I replied I have had it 4 times the same way before, he said sorry we don’t do it, I said you mean you don’t do it cuz four other baristas have done it, and they were courteous about it, he said no we cannot do and that’s it….😶😶😶 I was like this guy if it was another coffee place would be getting fired…. You don’t treat customers that way, Period…. So as I brought friends here and introduced them, I will make sure they become aware of todays event and let them make their own choice but be aware of the new attitude they have taken here, which is unethical and not consumer friendly…too bad the guy didn’t have a name tag on him I will be please to state the name for the record…. So this is my last time coming here, and will hopefully find a more customer and customer friendly place with good business ethics.

It's a very trendy and high volume coffee shop. It's a fun experience and the coffees are solid
I'd say the coffees are above average but nothing too special. They're decently cheap and the cafe was decorated very nicely
However, it was so busy and the ordering system was kind of interesting where you go tell a barista what you want and then you're directed to walk over to a different station where you tell someone else behind a cash register what your order was. Really chaotic especially when it's busy.
The cafe was also extremely busy so there wasn't a single place to sit down
Coffee: 8/10
Service: 6/10
Atmosphere: 5/10

This place is super cute and delicious. They’re also so fast. I’ve been here three times this week. Decided to show up at 8 am Saturday I figured I’d come in when they open and before the crowds. To my surprise they had a line out the door. The way they moved this line so fast blew my mind. And the coffee as delicious as ever. Love this place.

I came here on a Sunday morning and I was surprised by how the shop had a decent amount of people already!
I ordered their coconut coffee blend. I thought it was good, but the coconut to coffee ratio was about 75%/25%, so it tasted mostly like coconut. An extra espresso shot is free, so I highly recommend the extra shot if you want a more 50/50 ratio between the coconut and coffee. My sister got the extra expresso shot and her's really hit the mark on the coffee kick I was looking for, and this is coming from someone who doesn't drink coffee on a daily basis!
I'm sad that it didn't give me the coffee kick that I wanted, but I thought the flavor was spot on, so I would come back if I'm in the area again. My sister also mentioned to me that they source their coffee beans directly from Vietnam!
There is a free parking lot right behind the shop. We also found free street parking easily.

Came back here after 4 years and would say interior design changed or expanded.
Quite busy on the weekdays but line moved fast n arrived at the cashier around 10 mins wait.
Ordered 6 drinks (most to least)
1. Taro affogato (9.5/10)
2. Cà phê Sữa Đá (9/10)
3. Coconut coffee (8.8/10)
4. Rose latte (7.5/10)
5. Lavender matcha latte (6.8/10)
6. Ca phe Brulee (NEW) 4/10, black coffee and egg? No! It’s supposed to be Ca phe sua da and the egg on top. It’s northern style. Never see this but not recommended.
I liked the unique experience with letting you tru before checkout and friendly barista. Order, try and pay instead of order, pay and leave or remake the drink. This actually reduces unsatisfied experience. However I feel weird if I ask to try them all so I only tried 2 out of 6.
Prices: decent in OC compared to LA definitely cheaper and more quality!

“You can always tell how good a place is by how poppin it is!”
Half the time there’s a line out the door and it starts before they open! The staff here is always very friendly when I’m there and in a great mood and they look like they’re genuinely having a good time working there.
I’ve gotten the banana coffee, the peanut butter banana coffee and the London Fog and they’ve always been 10/10 every time, and BTW this is the best London Fog I’ve ever had in my life. The music is great and I love how they’ve decorated inside it’s a great atmosphere that’s welcoming and you want to hang out and be in!
Do be aware this is a Vietnamese coffee shop so they don’t do espresso it’s a Phin Drip style coffee and is prepared over night, so if you want something tailored for you this isn’t really the kind of place you can do that if you’re someone who wants to order a coffee with 3 shots of espresso.
But super awesome and will be back soon!

Been on a banana coffee craze recently after discovering banana and coffee really go well together. Phin Smith banana coffee indeed matches the first time I tried the style, its got a nice banana flavor and coffee as well blends so well when mixed together. It was easy to order, just wait in line and order with a barista when its my turn, then oddly enough go to a separate counter which the cashier would ring you up and I go back to the barista for my drink. I guess its their normal workflow. Place was packed with people chilling and students studying so there wasnt any place to sit. Guess the place is popular on a saturday afternoon in Garden Grove main street.

Been on my bookmarks forever and luckily my friend wanted to go here. This is a huge coffee spot with tons of available seating and very spacious. We got there around 9ish and it was empty and quiet, but 30min later, this place was bustling with long lines and even continued outside! The ordering is a bit different. Theres about 4-5 baristas making coffee but each one of them calls you up individually and personally makes your coffee. Im so happy with mine because I told her I wanted the Banana coffee but I like mine not too strong, light, and creamy. She couldnt have make it more perfect. I couldve literally gotten a bigger size and wouldve finished it. I will definitely recommend coming back here and getting it again and they even had a cute little Farmers market going on too. I even bought a nice handmade cutting board!

Phin Smith is a hidden gem in the city of Garden Grove and their location is perfectly on historical Main Street. Their coffee and tea are perfectly crafted and made to order in front of you. The banana coffee is delectable and not too sweet. I love that they do not charge for an extra shot. Their customer service is on point and their staff provide excellent recommendations. Personally the place is so busy that I do not want to hangout there. I would rather grab my coffee and enjoy Main Street.

I tried their traditional Vietnamese iced coffee and it slapped. First time visiting this shop and it was quite efficient, going from the crafting of the drink to checking out. Very punctual and friendly. None of their drinks can be substituted or altered to make their drinks provide the best experience (according to a sign in store) so I would ask the barista which drinks are more of what you re leaning more towards (caffeinated vs non-caffeinated or sweet vs not too sweet, etc). Study work environment friendly with free WiFi. Not sure how outlet is like but I m sure they re pretty good with WiFi and spacious seating. Would love to come back to try their other interesting drinks like their summer special taro affogato.

I really liked the fact that they let us try our drinks first, asked how we liked it, and was willing to adjust anything to the drinks before they sent us out with it. We ordered the coconut Vietnamese coffee and it was indescribably delicious! I m now back in the Bay Area and have yet to find anything that tastes as good as the one here. My favorite thing is the traditional viet coffee (Phin style); you can get it less sweet too, which means they add a little more coffee. We ve tried the coconut coffee and some other specials . But the traditional is something we get everytime we come. Absolute must when you re in the area

My first time here. I went across the last time even though I was aiming to go to PS. When I ordered coconut coffee, The barista guy asked if this was my first time. He made the drink to make sure the drink is my liking. He said he can add more coffee if it is not strong enough. Thats some top customer satisfaction engagement. Quality mind set. No wonder the place have a lot of 5 stars review. The interior decor is nice and clean. The barista coffee making area looks really congested since there are at least 10 baristslas. There was a nice green corvette parked right out side.

Pre made coffee? I ordered a HOT latte with a whole milk so I was expecting a fresh espresso shot with just a whole milk, simple order! The server instead brings this container that filled with brown liquid and poured into the cup and served to me. I was so confused. I tried not to judge and just decided to try it out. It tastes awful. It has the room temperature and has nothing to do with latte. I honesty don t even know what to call it. Why?

Parking: Parking is either a hit or miss. There s free street parking. Careful parking in some street spots as they have restricted times. Ambiance/Environment: You ll notice they are always busy. Constant customers walking in. It s very spacious inside with enough seating for large groups, doubles, and singles. Service: Don t be intimidated by the long line. Their throughput is quick and efficient! We ordered two drinks and waited under 3 minutes. Baristas are very knowledgeable about their drinks. What made this a unique experience for us was their reversed operations. The usual coffee operation is ordering with the cashier and paying at the register prior to retrieving your order from the barista. At Phin Smith, you actually place your order with the barista at the bar, try out your drink first, and if you re satisfied with your order, then you pay at the register in the end. If you re not satisfied with your order, let the barista know so they can remake your order until you are satisfied. Genius! Drinks: 1) Seoul Latte (seasonal) - Made up of three layers. The bottom layer is your choice of milk, the middle layer is the Phin dripped coffee, and the top layer is house made foam. So delicious! Not too sweet at all! It is definitely a taste of Korea. 8/10 2) Peanut Butter Coffee - I heard this was one of their popular drinks, so I had to try this for myself. I looove peanut butter, and I love coffee. Why not get the best of both worlds? The peanut butter wasn t too overpowering; not too sweet either. Tasted well with their Phin dripped coffee. 8/10 Pricing: Prices are $$ average and fair. We ordered two large drinks, and the total came out to $13.05 after taxes.

My sister has always gotten PS drinks for me so this is my first time being inside their place and order in person. The service was extreme rude when I asked about the details of some items on the menu. I believe this is fair to ask from me since there is no description on the menu. I even looked up their menu on their website while I was in line and there was no description either. I want to emphasize that their coffee and matcha latte are great but I am super disappointed with their service and will probably not come back.

Im not too big on sitting and enjoying coffee at a coffee shop, let alone paying for coffee instead of making it myself at home, but thats what I did today with my fiance as we reflected on 2023 in our annual year in review. I had a Vietnamese coffee which I felt could have been made stronger (i.e. bitter), but I didnt complain. The service here is great and this place can get very crowded with a line out the door. I also tried their guava cheese danish and wish it could have been warmed up. Theres also a bathroom here which typical requires a code to enter and use. Theres also a light switch right by the bathroom which controls the main chandelier lights and occasionally an oblivious person would lean on thereby briefly turning off the lights. Theres also outdoor seating here too. Parking: It was very difficult to find a spot but maybe I wasnt looking in the right area Kid-friendliness: Id say not for kids. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes

It was my first time visiting LA and this coffee place. I ordered the coconut ice coffee with my family (not sure what the exact name was called) It tasted amazing, it beats any ice coffee in the world in my opinion. Im trying to remake it at home but its impossible haha. If anyone is looking for a cafe place visit Phin Smith. Staff was nice. The bakery goods looked good too.

Overall great coffee and wonderful experience. No changes to drinks so as is it is to not change the recipe. Makes ordering quick and easy. The iced drinks are so pretty when served in layers. Once mixed, the flavor is solid. Love coming here as a treat.

Great little coffee shop on Main Street in Garden Grove. Nice place to get your coffee to go, or you can sit inside where they have wifi. The lines can be long at times, but the wait and the coffee are worth it. Look for the blue Vespa in front of the shop. Enjoy!

Phin Smith is in the heart of Garden Groves Main Street. There are several great coffee shops to choose from, however, Phin Smiths is my favorite. They offer unique flavors of coffee, a nice selection of patesseries, and always A+ customer service. The atmosphere is inviting, and its a great place to bring your mobile office and get some work or school work done. Be sure to check this one out!

Loved the atmosphere, very spacious seating and lovely decor. Got the Vietnamese iced coffee without hazelnut cream and it was delicious. The guy at the counter was very nice and allowed me to try the drink first to see if I liked it before paying.

The quality and diversity of the drinks and price merits five stars. I had an iced coconut latte, and it was too cold for the weather today! However, I can see why it is a popular menu item - it is unlike any other latte specialty I ve ever tried. The people were quick to whip up my order. I ordered an accompanying banana bread because it was a recommended pasty apart from the ham and cheese croissant and guava cheese croissant. I devoured the banana bread $4! I couldn t finish the coconut latte $7! However, I liked the general spaciousness of the cafe and the motorbike branding. There s a good amount of seating. A good place to work or chat with friends. I read a review commenting on the air freshener being a bit too strong - it is. Still a lovely cafe!

Delicious Vietnamese coffee place! A bunch of delicious flavors! I had the banana flavor. Go to the server counter first and ask to try any flavor. If you like it, tell them to make it, then go to the cashier counter and pay.

I love phin smith. My favorite is their rose latte and my husbands favorite is their coconut blended coffee. Service is always really nice and they re super fast on drinks. The cashier had now been moved to the right which makes a lot more sense. A lot of seating inside with a cozy atmosphere.

The line was deceiving. It was long but it moved pretty quick. We got a traditional Vietnamese iced coffee and a Freestyle Vietnamese iced coffee. The freestyle makes it slightly sweeter not too much of a difference in my opinion from the traditional. Both very delicious and rich in flavor. Not from the area but if I happen to be in Garden Grove I d make the effort to come back for sure. The staff was also very friendly despite the line and crowds.

Labor Day Weekend. I was hungover, from the night before so I came here with my hangover pills (OHCap) and got some coffee to get me right. The GF suggested this place because she used to live nearby and said it was good. The first thing I notice walking in is that the aesthetics of this place give off a great vibe. You see people studying or working in there with laptops. You also see groups of people just catching up with each other. Its been a while since Ive come to a Viet coffee shop so of course I had to order a classic one. The GF got the lavender latte. Her drink is personally not my thing, but I could tell it was good. So how come I give it 4 stars? Well when I ordered from the barista, I ask him if he could add less condensed milk. I usually like mine slightly less sweet so I can taste the strong coffee. He was also talking very quietly...like library quiet. I THINK he acknowledged my request but I wasnt sure. Anyway, the coffee came out really sweet. Either he didnt hear me or their coffee is even sweeter than that. Still, I think this place is pretty good despite my experience. With the help of their coffee and OHCap, poof my hangover was gone and I had energy for the rest of the day. Id come back and try it again, while people watching and doing work. Next time I wont be hungover.

Phin Smith is a Viet coffee place that has been near my house for years but I ve never really gone into it until now. Man have I missed out. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the barista. I went up to the counter and was very confused by the menu. Thankfully, the barista was really kind and helped me out. Something that really shocked me was they let me try the drink BEFORE I paid for it. If I didn t like the drink, they would let me choose a different one. I ordered the Green Thai Tea. To be honest, I was very skeptical of their flavors at first but the tea turned out SO GOOD. After they made sure I was satisfied with my drink, they let me pay. Phin Smith is really awesome and affordable. My drink was (around) 5 dollars. Compared to other local cafes, Phin Smith is really unique. Definitely revisiting soon.

Just a heads up, they don t have a dine out place. I thought they did because of the pictures on reviews. The neighboring store does, people usually buy from here and go to the next store to get cakes and sit outside. The dine out is by the parking lot. Although their drinks are really delightful- I had their dutch mocha blend.

I came with a few friends and 3 children aged 10-12 and one person came first to get a table. We didnt have enough seats so we took a chair from an empty table next to no one sitting. When leaving. After cleaning the table, we forgot to return the chairs to the next table. After leaving the store and walking out into the street, an employee from the barista counter ran out with a very annoyed look on his face and said, Next time, remember to get another chair and return it to the old place. We were quite surprised with his attitude. We apologize for that, we didnt mean it. Indeed, with such an attitude towards customers, we will never return to the store. And the shop should fix the toilet so customers can use it.

This coffee shop is absolutely spectacular. The customer service you receive here is very top-notch and impressive. You order whatever coffee you would like and you don t have to pay if you do not like it, you can just get it re-made. The coconut ice coffee is one of the best coffee s I have ever had hands-down. And the picture below you will see it is absolutely wonderful. If you were in the area you definitely have to try this coffee shop.

Im addicted to the peanut butter coffee here. Here are some tips for first timers since I was confused about the ordering process: - wait in line (by the TV monitors) for a barista to call you over to take your order - pay at the register and let the cashier know what you ordered - wait for your drink (the barista that took your order will usually be the one to let you know when the order is ready) It was quite warm inside today, like the AC wasnt turned on (or broken). Hopefully thats addressed before the temps go up. Parking: Limited spots and always end up parking in the college area by the McDonalds.

Phin Smith is one of my favorite coffee shops in town. I have been going there for a few months now and I always love their coffee and their service. They have a variety of drinks, from espresso to cold brew, and they use high-quality beans and roasts. Their coffee is smooth, rich, and flavorful, and they have different sizes and options to suit your preferences. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They greet you with a smile and make your order quickly and accurately. They also remember your name and your usual drink, which makes you feel welcome and appreciated. They are always happy to chat with you or give you recommendations if you are not sure what to get. The environment is great for any occasion. The place is cozy and comfortable, with plenty of seating and outlets. The decor is modern and stylish, with a lot of natural light and plants. The music is relaxing and not too loud. It is a perfect spot for meeting with friends, studying, working, or just chilling by yourself. I recently got the 32oz Cold Brew big can for togo and it was amazing. It was refreshing and energizing, and it lasted me for a couple of days. It was a great deal for the quality and quantity of coffee. I will definitely get it again next time I visit. Phin Smith is a gem of a coffee shop that I highly recommend to anyone who loves coffee and good vibes. It is one of the best places in town to enjoy a delicious drink and a friendly atmosphere.

I love Vietnamese iced coffee and knew I had to give this place a try when another reviewer said that it s better than 7 Leaves (which I love). There was a line out the door but the staff were so efficient and friendly I was out the door with my drink in less than 5 minutes. I got the large Vietnamese iced coffee with sea salt foam. It was smooth, creamy, and delicious (and better than 7 Leaves!) I ll definitely be back for more.

Some of the BEST drinks I ve ever sipped! I ve ordered my go-to melon matcha over 10x now, and they ve never disappointed - consistency is key and they hit it on the dot. They re set up also allows for a personal touch when your order - your order is placed with the same person making your drink. I love that aspect! Other favorites include their traditional iced Vietnamese coffee. Expect a line, but it moved quick and worth the wait.

Whenever I m in the area or close to Phin Smith, it s always a visit. My all time favorite would be their banana latte and second choice would be the coconut coffee. Banana latte tastes as if they took real bananas and infused it in their latte (tastes better than it sounds). The coconut coffee has a fresh coconut slushy with espresso shots poured over. It s quite a treat. Would highly recommend their banana latte. Tried their charcoal coffee and it tasted more of cream and the bit of sweetness reminded me hints of caramel.

Best cafe s a á ever!. You can smell the roasted coffee beans when ppl were coming in and out of the front door. It was a steady crowd Mon around 1130a. You know its good when the cafe is full of Vietnamese ppl like my grandpas age. It was smooth, creamy, and nutty like a hazelnut and didnt leave that bitter coffee after taste. I love how they drip it in front of you. $5 small/ $5.50 for a large is very reasonable. So good my friend and I came back and ordered 4 more to go so we could have it the next morning before our flight back to Canada...Im still dreaming about it.

Had to do some business in the area so decided to try this place out. Super cute, with well spaced tables with high ceilings and lots of ventilation. There were a lot of seated customers when I went, but it never felt crowded. I ordered the Vietnamese iced coffee and they offered to let me try the drink first before I paid for it, which I actually have never experienced before and really liked. My drink was delicious so obviously I paid and will be going back the next time I m in the area.
