Established eatery serves up a variety of homestyle classic fare & desserts in a light-filled space.
Been having breakfast here for many years. The omelets are great and they will give you salsa to go with your eggs, yum. They have the standard assortment of omelets plus a few combinations I’ve only seen here like the protein style omelette. Food quality is excellent, they even have homemade jam for your toast or homemade muffins with rotating/seasonal flavors.
Their cakes and bathed goods look delicious although I haven’t personally tried them.
This place is excellent and often has a wait, but that’s what happens when a place is good.

As always,,, 4 stars is my highly recommended rating. (I save 5 stars for the most spectacular spots around the world)
This is a Long Beach local icon, for good reason. We are generally part of the breakfast crowd, although there is an extensive lunch menu. Delicious food, a few items not commonly seen are on the breakfast menu (like quiche) and super yummy baked goods. House made preserves on the table enhance the fresh sourdough toast.
Today's quiche was Ortega Chile and cheddar. Muffin was blueberry and I opted for the homemade applesauce.

My first visit to Bake n Broil. My friend recommended we have brunch there.
I had the vegetarian omelette with hash browns seasoned with bell peppers and onions, some turkey sausage (cuz I'm not really vegetarian but I often prefer some restaurants' vegetarian options 🤷🏽♀️) and a cream cheese muffin.
My meal was yummy and satisfying. Before I started eating, I asked for a box because there was plenty of food for two meals. I ate the leftovers for breakfast the following day. I really enjoyed the cream cheese muffin. It was more like a desert with the icing glaze on top. So good.
My friend had the BnB burger and fries. She asked for her burger to be cooked medium well, but there was more pink than she liked. 😥
We had a great server (Michael)! He was very patient and attentive. We stayed chatting while the table next to us turned over 4 times! 🤦🏽♀️ He never gave us a hard time. He even asked if we wanted more water after we had been there so long.

Got there, and it was packed. I decided to order a lemon lush pie to go while I waited. A friend told me it was the best and very hard to get a whole pie. He could only get a slice. I was seated at a table in twenty minutes. ( I could have sat at the counter, but I wanted a table)
Service was friendly and fast. I had the chicken fried steak with two eggs overeasy, hash browns, and an English muffin. The chicken fried steak was crunchy in delicious gravy. The eggs were perfect. The hash browns were terrific. The jam with the English muffin was great.
I tried the pie when I got home, and it was the best lemon flavored pie I've eaten. I'm so glad I got a whole pie. Although it won't last long. :)

Cute diner. Ordered the chickened fried steak. It was cooked perfect, but the gravey was boring. Came with a muffin which was not very good. We also got the german chocolate cake which wasnt very good either. We left both items to be thrown away. Id eat food here again but I would not eat the baked goods, they just tasted cheap.

I really like coming here. I like the BLT, hamburgers, and the salads. I also love the soups here Unfortunately they dont have a consistent menu on them so theyre different mostly every day. My favorite is the potato with weenie. I also like the chicken and rice soup. I get the quart size which comes with two pastries. My favorite cake is the yellow cake with chocolate frosting. They dont always have it cuz it runs out quickly. Unfortunately last year for my birthday I ordered a whole cake and the manager was kind of rude to me that night. It took me 1 hour to get over it and come back. Parking: Additional parking is across the street by the church. Usually on the weekends its a little bit more busy sometimes hard to find parking. Theres also street parking.

While from the outside black and white style Parisian decore you may expect one thing, this is a traditional upscale American dinner inside. They have all your favorites and nothing that I have tried has been a disappointment. They also have some European treats and Mexican dishes ( I mean it is in Long Beach ). I recommend the Huevos Rancheros with seasoned hash browns and an English muffin. Coffee is great. Todays special muffin was a pecan sour cream coffee cake. It was soft, but moist, but chewy, but good undercooked, but crunchy, but buttery.... delicious. Just go eat here.

I ve loved Jongewaard s Bake n Broil for over 20 years, and it used to be one of my go-to spots, especially for their comforting meals and warm atmosphere. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was a huge disappointment, and I ve made the difficult decision not to return. The service was, frankly, terrible. Our server Roger seemed uninterested and made us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. He barely checked on us, and when he did, there was no friendliness or effort to make us feel at home. It felt like we were bothering him which made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. To make matters worse, the food quality has clearly gone downhill. I ordered my favorite burger, something I ve always looked forward to, but it arrived cold and burned. It was disheartening to see how much the standards I once trusted had slipped. The dining experience was finished off Roger following us out the door to express his dissatisfaction regarding his tip. This was the most rude and unprofessional behavior which we came back in to share with the manager on duty. We didn t receive an apology for our server behavior or our disappointing dining experience. Overall, the experience left me feeling sad and unappreciated, a far cry from the charm that made this restaurant special to me. It s disappointing to say goodbye to a place I once loved, but after this visit, I can t see myself ever coming back nor recommending this restaurant to anyone in the future.

This is a nice local place with a beachside cabin feel to it. The food was okay. I had some corn chowder which had a lot of bacon in it, which made it taste like bacon chowder which sometimes is not a bad thing. I had a burger which was just a plain burger. My wife had the Chinese chicken salad, which was just plain ish. Not that great, not that bad overall. This is A Try it kind of place, hopefully, its something that you will like.I thought it was just okay Parking: There is only street parking and good luck finding that.

The Long Beach Marathon forced my friend & I to change our brunch location from Claires to B&B. We had never been there but heard & read about how good the food is so decided to make the trip across town We werent disappointed; indeed, we were overwhelmed by our taste experience. The pumpkin pancakes with butter were outrageously delicious, as was the chicken fried steak. We ordered the lemon lush pie to take home based on a friends recommendation & and it is, without question, one of the best desserts Ive ever had. Im not easy to please, but pleased I was after our brunch at Jongewaards B&B.

2nd time at this popular spot. Its busy, my seating at the counter was cramped (Im tall), and the staff is busy. You have to catch someone when you can. I got an up close look at the staff and they do a lot and move seamlessly. They are extra busy with all of the takeout orders. They have dozens of homemade cakes and pies, but we didnt partake this time. Im sure there is something for everyone. Wifey had the tuna melt and she liked, but didnt love. I had the Polish sausage and eggs with hash browns and peppers, which I would order again. I thought the price point was fair.

Went in with my partner for breakfast right at opening time and had a lovely experience! The service was fast and friendly, the decor was adorable, and most importantly, the food was delicious! We got the banana nut pancakes and French toast combo. Everything was cooked perfectly--crispy bacon, juicy sausage, fluffy eggs, and the pancakes and toast were incredible. Each combo was about $15, which I feel is more than reasonable. We took a coffee cake and cinnamon roll to go, which Im sure will also be delicious. Would come back, and would recommend!

Wheelchair accessibility: While it doesnt have any stairs, it is a little tight in there so Im not sure if you could wheelchair through the whole establishment. They do offer take-out though so if it is a problem, there are other options other than dine-in.

I love this place and have been going for decades- their baked items and pies are just the best and I love that it is family owned. We particularly love the fresh fruit pies (strawberry, peach) with their fresh whipped cream, lemon meringue, banana cream, muffins, soup, cheese danish, and pancakes. I think at this point we have had everything on the menu. The food is plentiful and tastes home cooked and we love the fresh jams- the chicken pot pie is also great. Service today was a bit off (asked three times for mustard and ketchup, at which point dessert was brought out which melted while we waited for mustard), all water glasses were empty-but is generally very good. In entirety- Please come here- you will love it.

If you plan to dine in, be prepared to wait. This place is incredibly popular. We ordered take out the last time we were there. We ordered several chicken pot pies. A few were frozen for later. If you like chicken pot pie, be prepared for your taste buds to be blown. The gravy in the pie alone would hold its own as a hearty soup. The chicken is delicious and the crust is something else. If youre a fan of lemon merengue pie, get there early, because they sell out of them fast. Update: 8/22/23: Today we ate in. As usual there was a wait, and this was on a Tuesday morning! My wife and I shared a cheeseburger combo with onion rings. Both were delicious. The onion rings are covered in panko crumbs, so they are really light and flavorful. I highly recommend them. The service is great and the staff are warm and welcoming. Update: 07/15/24: My wife and I had breakfast here on Sunday morning, and as has been the case in the past, the service was great, the food was awesome, and the wait was still there.

First time here and no idea why its so popular, service was slow, prices were high, and serving was small. Ordered the grilled cheese with a 3 cheese blend on white. And what I got was a small overcooked sandwich that was so over toasted it was like eating a cracker instead of soft bread. They also brought the soup 15 mins before the sandwich which defeats the purpose of soup and sandwiches they need to be served together so you can dunk the sandwich. My friends apparently did better with their dishes, a club sandwich and the roast beef sandwich. But first impressions are forever. Waiting over 30 mins for an overpriced small hard grilled cheese will make me think twice about returning.

Had the weirdest experience here today I walked in and there was no host so I walked to the bar which is close to the door and asked to order because I figured it was a counter service kind of restaurant. I then ordered and asked if I could sit at the bar and was told they will have to cancel my to go order I asked if I could sit inside and eat my order if it must be to go(even though I wantedddd to order and sit down I just didn t realize it was that kind of place). I was told the need to ask their manager if I can sit with my to go food which made no sense because I never asked for ToGo! She asked an older white man if I could sit and him smuggly looked at me and said no . Soooo odd and plain rude. I never asked for to go, it shouldn t have been so wild of a request to make it Dine In instead and let me sit at one of the many open spots. Will not return.

Super yummy and good vibes. 9.5/10 Cinnamon roll was one of the best I ve ever had! Flaky and light and a perfect amount of cinnamon and icing and melted butter. Blueberry muffin was ok but it came out after the cinnamon roll so it wasn t as sweet as expected. And it had a bit of a cornbread batter flavor to it. Lemon blueberry pancakes were fun and unique but a bit sweet for my taste. The pancakes with regular syrup were really good too. The eggs were good, the sausage was delicious, and the bacon was flavorful and meaty, but it wasn t crispy at all. The french toast was good, the huevos rancheros and hash browns were ok. Service was great! The winner of the show though is the pie. I absolutely was floored by their lemon lush pie! Holy crap this was one of the best desserts ever. I love lemon desserts and have been chasing this high for years! Exceptional stuff.

Ive probably been here about 3-4x this year. Each time was a different experience with the staff and waiters. All were great! Parking: theres a lot right across the street! The wait would be about 10-15 minutes. Price: not pricey in my opinion. Food: its great! Ive gotten the Caesar salad & the chicken dinner with mashed potatoes. Environment: well maintained, Ive had more good experiences then Ive had with the not to good. Great for small groups, no more then 5. Yes its a dine in restaurant! Restrooms are well kept.

We love their pies. Our favorite is the coconut cream pie which seems to be a hit for family gatherings. Their cakes are also wonderful especially the german chocolate and carrot cake.

Walter took his time. I ordered rhe chicken friend steak with a side of biscuits in gravy. The steak was rubberiest piece shoe sole I have ever had. I could not cut through it. I thought maybe I was given a blunt knife. The biscuit was like a cake of compressed Beach sand in my mouth. Very dissapointed at an awful breakfast

Best place in Long Beach for breakfast, lunch and dinner for American Cuisine, and their in-house bakery is second to none!

Only street parking. The service was fantastic! The food was so good, truly enjoyed the flavors perfectly combined and the salsa was so yummy, specially over the home hash-brown! We also ordered a blueberry lemon pancake, it was so fluffy, not too sweet, well balanced

Ive eating there many years and Ive never been disappointed with any of the food, especially the cake. The chocolate buttercream cake is excellent. I just wish they had the old hours when they were open at night because its difficult for me to get there while theyre open. I always like to sit by the window Food

GO FOR THE PIES! We went on a Tuesday around 11am, it was busy and they had about a 20 to 30min wait for a table so we decided to go for the first come first serve counter seating. We shared a bowl of their Soup of the Day, Tomato Basil with Cornbread and it came fast, hot and delicious! We ordered the Lemon Blueberry Pancakes with Raspberry Sauce and the Tomato Basil and Jack omelette and both were just ok they also took a long time to serve the Pancakes were really just Blueberry pancakes no lemon flavor at all and the raspberry sauce fell short on the raspberries. The breakfast potatoes were supposed to be seasoned but tasted super plain and the omelette was just ok. Now the Pies, WOW!, what a treat! We had the Lemon Merengue and the Apricot Pie and they were Amazing! Also met a regular client sitting next to us, she said she has been a patron since 1965!!
