Modern taverna serves up classic American comfort food in an intimate space with walls of glass.
First time at Nick's and it was awesome. First, the service was exceptional. The patio is warm but breathable, so we felt safe from a Covid perspective.
I got the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, and it was finger-licking good. My gin martini was perfection (the server took the time to clarify how much vermouth I wanted!). For dessert, we ordered the sundae, and it was a great, sweet end to an awesome meal.
We'll be back soon and I can't wait!

I can honestly say I never expected to encounter something so close to perfection in my life—but then Nick's on 2nd came along and absolutely exceeded my expectations. To the amazing team there, from the very moment we walked in, I was in awe. It wasn’t just the food, the service, or the atmosphere—it was the entire experience that left me completely blown away.
After a long day of balancing work and fun with my friends, we were looking for a place to unwind and grab a meal, and I’m beyond thrilled that we chose Nick’s. As we approached, I immediately noticed how lively the place was. It was packed, buzzing with energy, which is always a promising sign that you’re in for something good. Despite the crowd, the staff didn’t miss a beat. Within minutes, they had us seated at a perfectly clean table, like they had already anticipated our arrival. It was seamless, quick, and truly impressive, especially considering how busy they were.
The restaurant had a vibrant nightlife vibe, and while that’s the time we went, I imagine it’s just as fantastic no matter the time of day. The lighting around our table was spot on—not too dim, not too bright—creating a cozy, intimate atmosphere that was ideal for catching up with friends after a busy day. It struck the perfect balance between lively and relaxed, giving off an inviting yet upscale feel.
Our waiter was a shining example of professionalism and warmth. From the moment they approached our table, they were attentive and genuinely friendly, the kind of person who makes you feel completely taken care of. They had a deep knowledge of the menu and answered every question we threw their way without hesitation. Whether it was dietary preferences, drink recommendations, or clarifications about dishes, they had everything covered. Their attention to detail was remarkable and made the dining experience all the more enjoyable.
Everyone in our group decided to order something different, which gave us the opportunity to sample a wide variety of dishes. But what stood out for me personally was the bacon deviled eggs I chose to start with. Lightly fried with crumbled applewood bacon sprinkled on top, every bite was a flavor explosion. The balance of textures was incredible, and the dish managed to feel both indulgent and light at the same time.
For my main course, I couldn’t resist the Original Ribeye Melt—and let me tell you, it was the best decision I could have made. This sandwich was perfection on every level. The ribeye was melt-in-your-mouth tender, paired beautifully with Swiss cheese and red wine onions that added just the right amount of sweetness and depth. The mustard bacon sauce tied it all together, and the grilled Parmesan sourdough provided a delightful crunch with each bite. It was the kind of dish that makes you pause after the first taste, just to appreciate how good it is.
I know I’m gushing, but it’s hard not to when every element of the experience was executed so flawlessly. The food was outstanding, the service was impeccable, and the overall vibe of the restaurant was exactly what I needed that night. If I could, I would return here over and over again—this is the kind of place that you can’t wait to come back to. I can already picture myself trying more items on the menu, eager to see if they can top what I had this time (though it’ll be hard to beat that ribeye melt!).
To anyone passing through town or staying for an extended visit, I can’t recommend Nick’s on 2nd enough. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion, having a night out with friends, or just looking for an exceptional meal in a welcoming environment, this is the place to be. It’s one of those rare spots that manages to check all the boxes and then some.
Thank you, Nick’s on 2nd, for giving me an unforgettable night. I will be back, and I hope others take the chance to experience the magic of this place as well.

Went for girlfriend and I’s anniversary. Food, service, and ambiance were all great. The baby back ribs were excellent, and the bistro plate was solid. Highlight was for sure the brown butter cake, amazing dessert!! Great service from Sebastian and Christian as well.

Nice location and good ambiance. Tuna tartar was mid, shrimp taquitos was delicious, tomato bisque lacked flavor. For main course the San Fran Cioppino tasted too watery, broth needed more depth and flavor. Baby back ribs and sauce were just average. Butter bread dessert was probably the best thing we ate for the evening. Lot of money for just an average tasting meal.

Make sure you make reservations in advanced or be ready to wait an hour at least during dinner times. Great area to walk around and plenty of bars to grab a drink while you wait. Parking will be tough so make sure you give yourself extra time and may the odds be ever in your favor...
If it's your first time get the bacon deviled eggs, prime rib dip with mac & cheese and finish it off with their butter cake. Trust.
Dinner here comes to around $40-$50/person but well worth for any special occasion.
Shoutout to Christian who provided awesome service during our dinner.

Food, service and atmosphere all great! Shrimp appetizer was surprisingly delicious and steak was great, medium rare. Ate at a booth which was a great choice. Noise level is not quiet when a lot of people are around. I have a hard time hearing in noisy environments, so this matters to me, but still 5 stars because everything else was great!

We made reservations over a week in advance to celebrate our Anniversary at Nicks. Id done some research on the Long Beach area since were not familiar. The reviews and pictures did Nicks justice! We both had their dinner Bistro Plate because we had a big brunch earlier. The petite filet was done perfectly and was tender and flavorful resting on garlic toast and some garnish. I LOVED the slaw-like salad and the butternut squash soup was amazing (my wife, who always orders it wherever its offered, thought it was wonderful). We had a half carafe of Napa Cab Sav and were looking at the dessert menu when our delightful server brought a complimentary chocolate chocolate chip cake with a candle! I loved that and we still ordered their pumpkin dessert--glad we did! Our server finished us off with a hand-written and staff-signed Anniversary card. They didnt miss a trick! The road noise was a minor nuisance as bikers seemed to prefer 2nd Street over everywhere else, and the place was lively, so quiet and intimate it wasnt, but classy and delicious it was! We will go back. Parking: The lot of the back alley to the west is free Sundays.

The reviews state that this place is pet friendly. It s not. I repeat this is not pet friendly. I stopped by to have lunch and the receptionist stated that yes they are pet friendly and I would have to sit in the patio in a corner table and that my dog would have to sit on the outside of the patio railing. / other side of the fence. Mind you my dog is in his stroller and he s 10lb Yorkie-poo. . I for sure will not eat at this place. Super disappointed.

A friend and I tried this place for brunch on a Sunday morning with an 11am reservation. We were seated right away with a nice outdoor table. The restaurant is in Belmont shore so we took an Uber to not have to deal with the hassle of parking. Our service was great. The food was absolutely delicious. Everything we had tasted SO good. The presentation of the dishes made it even better. I already want to go back for the fish sandwich on a brioche bun that was baked to perfection. We also tried the deviled eggs, onion rings, and Thai noodle salad. Everything was a 5/5. Shoutout to the chef.

Nicks has a pretty great menu. The customer service was stellar. The server was attentive to our party of 8, had a great big smile on her face, and was engaging. I ordered the chicken picatta. The chicken was moist and tender, and had a great lemon sauce. Some restaurants overdo it with the capers, but this had a perfect balance! Ir came with a side of Arugula, tomato salad. Instead of whipped potatoes, I substituted with broccoli, which was perfectly seasoned.

Everything was so delicious and the customer service was superb. I went today for my birthday and the waitress was so amazing and thoughtful. She had a great and contagious positive attitude and really kind. The food was spectacular! Please get the chicken caprise!!! Sooo good and the onion rings and deviled eggs do not disappoint! The only the about the atmosphere is that it s extremely loud especially today on a Saturday so if you need to go somewhere and be able to hear each other chat then maybe this place is not the best for that! I wish I could have heard the conversation from across the same booth. Comfy booths too and I felt very special as they also said good bye and invited us to come back for any other special event! We will def be back!!!

Picked this place because of its good reviews. First time. There were 3 of us in our party and were seated right away on the patio. There was about 3 other tables preoccupied. We were greeted right away and A guy server came and said he ll be the one to take care of us moving forward and would give us time to look over the menu. So we waited, and waited and waited. A girl server took our drink request, dropped them off and disappeared. So we waited, and waited and waited. A few more tables got sat and the original server had helped them. By this time, I assumed he forgot about us and I had to remind him that we were ready for him to take our food order. His response was, Oh, okay. Not sure who dropped the ball here, but places/restaurants need to have not only good food, but good service also, as it goes hand in hand if you want customers to return. As far as recommendation go, overall it s okay.

I had brought my service dog in and they said no dogs allowed. I informed them he s my service dog and then they began to give me rules on how my dog should behave inside the restaurant while speaking in a rude tone. They just didn t believe me because I don t physically look like I have a disability, doesn t mean I m not disabled. I asked to sit inside because we were hot and continued to lead us outside on the patio. They also stated that he cannot drink water. That is completely unacceptable, he needs water in this heat. Anyway, it stated that they were a brunch place and we arrived on a Saturday right when they opened at 11ish and there were no brunch menus. My friend and I ended up leaving because it s not the kind of service or food we planned on having. Will not return. The lady who told me rules had no neck. I m not sure of her name but that is what I remember. And if they are a service dog there s no need to go over rules because they are trained specifically in that. And yes, they are allowed water. I ve attached a picture of what the ADA states. Please train your hostess/waitresses better.

Rounding up a wee bit from 4, as they are nothing if not consistent t Nicks and that counts. Had the special macadamia encrusted wild Alaskan halibut and sauted asparagus with potatoes mashed. Cioppino for the partner and it was the winner. Oooooh the aroma! So much fish and what a nice variety in the bowl. My halibut was delicate and flavorful due to the lemony sauce, but that bowl of Italian fish soup shines. Asparagus fries are up to $15 now. Not sure it s anywhere near worth it - if you ve had them once. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and it tasted like a skilled bartender crafted it for me (homemade lemonade!). One thing - once the sun moves to the west they could raise the south facing shades and it would really brighten up the patio without adding heat. Hope they consider that bc it s a bit dreary behind all that black. Pix to come.

Came here for a small bday dinner but the staff was in some sort crisis and interviewing employees and or having meetings on the floor on actual serving tables during open hours, its very unprofessional and was being conducted right next to us having dinner. We heard the whole dilemma not to mention the staff talking and swearing all around gossiping about it , really made the dinner experience very bad.. as an insurance underwriter for hospitality establishments such as these I can honestly say this place was not up to par with its reputation and reviews. The atmosphere was negative and very uncomfortable to be in. The food was above average the Chicken Picatta was really tasty and not dry at all ..kuddos to the chef! And the petite sirloin was very good. But it wasnt good enough to sway a better review as ambiance and atmosphere is part of having a good meal. We expected better from such a highly regarded establishment.

Everything was actually great, including the service! The Fried Deviled Eggs were possibly the best deviled eggs Ive ever had. If you love those, youll REALLY love these. Ordered the Fishermans Loaf which was off menu. Im obsessed. It was served piping hot, generously dressed with garlic and olive oil, and had such a thin, but crispy, crust, while having a dense, chewy, moist crumb (as befits a sourdough loaf). Love at first bite. My entree was the Chicken Piccata which was tender with a caper sauce that gave it a nice brightness along with the tomato arugula salad. It came with a pyramid of mashed potatoes, which were good, but I was satisfied with the chicken. Ill definitely be back for more! Update: Service is still amazing (thank you, Christian!). Ask for the Fishermans Loaf, its worth it. Dont sleep on the Bacon Deviled Eggs! Entree this time was the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, which I got with roasted potatoes. It was so good and they cut it up so it was easy to bite into.

I had the soup of the day, lentils and vegetables, and the veggie burger. Both were very good. But what was most notable was the attentive and caring service, where the server seemed to be always aware of me, and was quickly able to provide a couple of extras, like Tabasco for the soup and Dijon mustard for the burger. Yay

I wish they would re-work this restaurant for less noise & more comfortable seating. I am 52 & the benches in the booths are too low for the height of the tables. Some benches are beginning to sag, making matters worse. These problems are common to most restaurants, so every so often we endure the challenges for the fantastic FOOD! Parking: There is a small lot behind the restaurant, but it is mostly street parking in a densely populated residential neighborhood where garages are RARE!

Nicks long Beach location didnt disappoint. Fun and lively ambiance in the heart of the city where the action is. Great service, limited but good cocktail offering and the food on point. Special mention to the ciopino here. Best Ive tried. Well deserved 5 stars.

Had a quick drink plus a couple appetizers stop here on a friends recommendation. Busy and popular place. Food was very good - shrimp taquitos and potatoes side dish - just excellent. Great margarita. Got us in the right mood to continue our exploring of the area.

They took the Rib s off the menu - extremely disappointed! They were incredible and a staple since the restaurant opened. Extremely disappointed and our server said dozens of customers have already complained. Why remove one of your most popular and delicious menu items?

Great place for a celebration or just to get together. Only drawback is the parking.

Our server Erin is the most personable, professional, extremely knowledgeable Server who knew all about the food, drinks, and restaurant itself. It was a 1000% an excellent experience!! The food and drinks were fantastic but without Erin as our Server, I wouldnt have had such a beautiful afternoon at Nicks on 2nd. Erin, thank you for everything yesterday. You are incredibly fantastic at your profession and your awesome people skills. Best service we have ever received anywhere! Now we have a new favorite spot & youll see us on the days Erin is at the restaurant Killin it! Dietary restrictions: None Wheelchair accessibility: Plenty of room in the restaurant.

Ok i love the cipppino. Its the best BUT Something was off last night. The soup had veggies that were undercooked. The broth was not as rich as before. And the bread was soggy and dripping in garlic butter but like excessive. What happened? This is my favorite dish here and it was like ick last night.

All-in-all, everything was great. The food and service met or exceeded my expectations, but the restaurant (inside) is quite noisy.

Wonderful place. Great service and friendly staff. Is a bit noisy inside, so I recommend outdoor seating when possible so you can actually hear the people at your table. Btw- They don t have private parking so you have to park on the street, which can be tricky at such busy area.

This place is a trip to bountiful. The Fried Asparagus was hard and unpleasant. The Artichoke Dip was dry with poor salsa but Lunch itself was killer. I had Prime Rib Sandwich and I loved it. My buddy had the Cioppino and it was wonderful. Atmosphere was pleasant but the service was killer. My waitress was adorable-I fell in love. We will return because this place is well worth it.

The whole experience was wonderful. It is a popular place so you may have to wait. They do have a bar where you can wait. I highly recommend Nicks on 2nd in Long Beach. My husband has a walker and was easily accommodated. Parking: We parked in a disabled spot in a lot across the street.

Ive been here several times and have been pleased with most of the food Ive had. Lately, Ive been doing take-out and pick it up myself. I love the Chilean sea bass so I get that a lot. The last 3 times Ive gotten it, the bass gets smaller & smaller. Tonight was the topper.....that piece of bass was the size of a fat hotdog! They used to serve large portions and the mashed potatoes were plenty.....not anymore... and the prices just keep going up! I wont go back. Oh, another thing, you cant hear yourself think in that place, so much loud noise and everything echoes!

Food was tasty... Prime Rib needed a little salt. Service was OK. Took food unusually long to come out, Appx 25 minutes. But overall... lovely atmosphere. Food : 4/5
