I ordered an El Matador Omelette via Postmates. The omelette was poorly prepared. At first glimpse of the omelette. looked like a plane egg omelette with nothing in it.. The El Matador Omelette should have included Ortega chili peppers, jack cheese, avocado, with toppings of salsa and sour cream. The omelette had no avocado, no Jack cheese, a smidgen of cheddar cheese, a few canned diced Ortega peppers, with a cup of jarred salsa, all of which was shifted (cooked) to one side of the omelette. Worst pot holder cafe experience Ive had in my 30 years of living in Long Beach.

Showed up on a Wednesday and the place was pretty empty. Was scared that meant the food was no good. Took the chance in ordering anyway.. I mean... Im already there. The server was great. She games us time to order and made suggestions. We hung out after our meal as the atmosphere makes you want to get comfy. About an hour after our meal we were told it was time to go. Ive closed down plenty of places, just not during the day. Come to find out, they are not open all day. Makes sense now. Id go back. I had a great meal, service, and made memories.

This place exceeded my expectations and more importantly put a smile on both of our faces. Located just down the street in a corner building, the sign is easily readable, had a 50s vintage feel and says cafe. We decided to stop here for breakfast and the service was prompt, friendly, and professional. The waitresses consistently checked in on us without being interruptive and always wearing a huge smile! 10/10 A+ would definitely come back again. Parking: I didnt see any parking immediately obtainable but drove to somewhere simply by googling free parking near me. There was medium traffic and still parking spots were easily available at the first area I was directed to- about a 5 minute walk from the cafe.

I bought my home in the Belmont Heights area of Long Beach in 2000 and discovered the POTHOLDER almost immediately. My career has had me bouncing around the country for the last 17 years but Im back in the neighborhood. Couldnt wait to introduce my wife to this fabulous, local breakfast & lunch dive just 2 blocks from home. I was pleasantly surprised at the great upgrades the new owner, Michael has done to the place. It still has a great, funky feel, just upgraded funky. Before Covid, Saturday or Sunday meant 60 - 90 minute waits to get a seat. That should (and does) speak volumes for the food. Always tasty, great portions and great service to match. If youve never been, you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. And after youve been there, you too will be telling others to EAT AT THE POTHOLDER. (Youll understand after youve visited.) :-) Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie options. Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu that comes with crayons.

It deserves more than 4 stars for its intangibles, but not quite 5 stars because much of the menu is just OK (way too many items is a yellow flag). But if you get the items they are known for (ask your server), the food is pretty good. Parking: Not a lot of parking. We found one quickly but we might have been lucky. Looked pretty packed on the streets.

Are you visiting from out-of-town and looking at reviews for a good breakfast joint? Welcome to Long Beach and, yes, Potholder Café is where you want to go. Us locals love it here for a reason: great food great service and great atmosphere. I bring my friends and family here when they visit from out-of-town. Besides omelettes and scrambles, they have other great dishes like homemade biscuits and gravy, the island favorite loco moco and my favorite: corn beef hash with sausage gravy. The pancakes are huge and the French toast with fresh fruit is to die for (the bread they use is exceptional). If y all are getting omelettes or scrambles at least get a pancake or French toast order to set in the middle of the table do everyone can sample. Oh they have delicious homemade ice coffee at the ready too!

This place would be a wonderful fit to open a second restaurant in Downtown Long Beach. The food is salivating paradise. Maybe I might think about offering them an investment offer. Maybe open up in Boise, Idaho and Helena, Montana too. Juneau, Alaska would be an awesome fit for The Potholder Cafe.

I was really happy to see the vegan options and the breakfast burrito was delicious. I was delighted that they had other options besides fried potatoes, healthier options such as spinach or sliced tomatoes. I was a little confused by the seating sign up list outside but when I entered I realized it was half empty. Our food server was extremely friendly and efficient and helpful. I never actually know if a host will come to seat me, or if i have to go inside and request to be seated. Ex fan of The Potholder here. Their quality of food has gone down drastically, particularly at their Broadway location. Ordered Tim s Dugout which used to be my favorite, but they switched the steak for cut up steak bits which are overcooked. They didn t serve the sauce on the cream cheese french toast. I saw them pouring their fresh squeezed orange juice out of a gallon and even inquired about it, to which the server told me they buy it bottled. Hurts me to say that while this was a LB staple, the quality is not what it used to be.

Was not impressed. The pancake syrup tasted like cough medicine, the pancake was under cooked. Scratching my head about why there is a line to eat here. The shinning light was the hostess who was cheerful, pleasing and Gave great service as we waited. She needs a raise for great customer care.

I ve been coming here for like 3 years and always tip and am friendly to the servers. Recently their service has been terrible but today was the worst, my boyfriend and I were seated and no one acknowledged us for about 5 minutes. Not even a nod or smile or offering drinks. We ended up just walking out. There was enough wait staff and the restaurant wasn t busy. We were also seated in the main room so don t know what the excuse was. Talked to the manager Christine but honestly doesn t seem like she cared much. Won t be coming back anymore.
