La Parolaccia Osteria - Long Beach
About the Company

La Parolaccia has been a family owned business since 2006. We are from Rome Italy and hope to bring some of our homestyle Italian cooking to you. La Parolaccia offers a relaxed and intimate atmosphere where everyone is treated like family and enjoys delicious pizza, pasta and wine.
La Parolaccia in Italian means "the bad word." In Italy an osteria is a down to earth establishment where friends and family gather to enjoy great food and occasionally let out a "parolaccia." We hope our home away from home becomes a place where you form great memories around great food.

Ci vediamo presto!

We accept reservations for parties of 3 or more only. Reservations can be made only by calling the restaurant during business hours.

Great, relaxed ambiance with delicious food. We split 3 pasta dishes and the Bomboni con Salsiccia E Tartufo was the stand out. The Margherita pizza we got was also very good! We went on a Saturday night and they were very busy, but overall we enjoyed our experience.

My partner and I have dined here several times. Until our most recent visit, wed always had nice meals that were worth the wait and the price. This week was a disappointment. As we waited to be seated, we heard a waiter describe the days specials. We were particularly interested in an item he described as short rib ravioli in a creamy tomato sauce with sausage on top. My partner loves short rib, and my favorite dish is a creamy tomato rigatoni with Italian sausage. Surely, we thought, this special would be ideal for us. When our server took our order, we asked her to tell us about the specials. Again, she described ravioli with a creamy tomato sauce, stuffed with shortrib, with sliced sausage on top. We ordered it--and a regular menu item (tortellini with sliced ham and a browned butter sauce). What we got was half-good. The regular menu item--the tortellini--had a lovely taste and was exactly as described. The ravioli, however, were a huge disappointment. What we received a was a plate containing exactly 4 ravioli (each about 2x2). The creamy tomato sauce was indistinguishable from Chef Boyardee, as was the supposed shortrib filling. We enjoy shortrib because it is so hearty and savory. But this was almost entirely tasteless. More surprisingly, the advertised sliced sausage was nowhere to be found. When our server came around, I told her that we were disappointed with the ravioli and specifically asked her where the sliced sausage was. She then changed her story and said that the sausage was inside the ravioli. Then she walked away. We had two of the ravioli left. We opened them up..there were nothing in them aside from the tasteless paste that we took to be the saddest short rib in Long Beach. No sausage. Certainly no sliced sausage. Our server never bothered to check in with us again. All of this would have been less of a pain if the four ravioli had been offered as an appetizer. But the restaurant apparently considered these Chef Boyardee disapointments to be an entree, and they charged us $28 for the privilege. The server made no attempts to improve or exchange the dish, nor did she offer to reduce the cost. We like this restaurant and we are happy to be in a position to support local businesses, but I think weve learned our lesson. From now on, well stick to the standard menu items and likely avoid the ravioli entirely.

Holidaying in LA from New Zealand. This is an amazing Italian (truly authentic) restaurant. We sat outside and enjoyed our meal just as you would if you were in Italy. The food was perfection, which kept true to the original recipe, and how Italian food should be presented to the world. The service was great, and the atmosphere inside was exactly what you expected an Italian restaurant to be. We will definitely go there again to try other dishes and pizza. My husband is Italian and this is now our favourite Italian restaurant outside of Italy. The price for quality and portion was honest, and we love that!

This was a lovely surprise. It is a big restaurant with very charming, different rooms. The welcome was friendly. The food was exceptional, the Carbonara made in the classic Italian style, with guanciale, eggs, pecorino, parmesan, and pepper, a delice. The drinks perfect, an Old Fashion with an Italian touch. My friends dish, which I dont remember the name of, included shrimps, it was amazing. That I fo remember definitely. The calamari fritti appetizer was perfect, not excessively oily, and served with a nice marinara sauce. The Tiramisu, homemade, was to die for. This Italian restaurant, its a give me more very soon. It makes going out for dinner an enjoyable experience, again. See you very soon La Parolaccia. Vegetarian options: Plenty of dishes without meat. Parking: If you lucky they have a small parking available, otherwise street parking... you will find a place on the street, dont get impatient.

This business needs to do a better job of turning off their online ordering systems. Last night for the second time i ordered from them [through doordash] and for the second time i was left in the dark sitting and waiting for my food. The restaurant does not confirm the order and as i try to cal the restaurant either no one answers repeatedly or like last night the phone went straight to User Busy and doesnt even go through. The first time i eventually was able to reach the restaurant the next business day and they submitted my refund. Second time door dash was able to cancel but now my account is flagged as repeatedly having issues and will be investigated for each claim now. I ordered at like 8pm and takeout is through 8:30. It is really frustrating to be hungry and think you have food coming only to realize after a while it isnt working. It seems like a really simple thing to adjust your online ordering hours to ones you will actually honor. Still hoping to eventually try this food but wow are they making it difficult.

Warm inviting family restaurant. Some of the best traditional preparations of Italian food you will find. You can make reservations or show up and wait. We chose the latter option for an early Friday dinner and waited about 25 minutes to be seated. The service is a little on the spotty side. Our server had difficulty telling us much about the dishes on the menu. Several times we had to ask for refills of water. But it was a packed house and the staff were clearly scrambling around. I love that the restaurant appears to a multigenerational crowd. Lots of families, but also plenty of couples and friend-groups as well. We enjoyed everything that we ordered from the Suppli (Roman rice croquettes filled with beef ragu) as an appetizer, to the main pastas such as the Bucatini and the Tagliolini. We also ordered a slice of the delightful pistachio cake which was fluffy and nutty, and not too sweet. We would certainly come back to experience more of the pasta dishes and try a pizza as well.

The last time we were here was maybe 2 years ago, and we had remembered it being better. What I do enjoy is the very neighborhood vibe. Also, the non-alcoholic aperitivos. Prices have been raised, I get it. But $14 for a clump of arugula and the same for a meh ceasar salad. My $19 glass of valpolicella was warm. Ot really should not be room temperature. My vaccianara pappardelle was fine, but the pasta was overcooked and there was hardly any oxtail in it. Im not sure what my husbands dish was called, but it looked like rigatoni with some truffle and it was really very good. I would say just come here for the wood fired pizza, but the sauce tasted like tomatoes straight from a tin. Maybe I sound like a jerk, but $145 is a lot for a disappointing meal. Only one alcoholic beverage, btw. Im sad to say we probably wont be back.

I had very high expectations for this Long Beach Italian restaurant, based on reviews Ive read and on the fact that the owners are from Rome, the city where I was born and raised. I mean, its a good restaurant and the food is good, but if I compared it to any good restaurant in Rome, it would totally lose. We had suppli (fried rice balls with a ragù sauce and mozzarella) as an antipasto, which is a staple of Roman street food, and that was the first disappointment. Like I said, I dont mean to say the food was bad, but it was on the bland side, when compared to what you can eat in any Roman rosticceria or restaurant. I can say the same about the Amatriciana pasta. The pasta itself was very good and well-cooked, but the sauce was nowhere near as savory as what youd typically get in Rome. I suspect one of the reasons is that real guanciale and 100% pecorino cheese (what the original recipe calls for) make this dish a tad too pungent for people who arent used to this flavor. The pizza was much better and pretty much on a par with an average pizza in Rome. But not with the best pizzerias in the city. Finally, the panna cotta dessert was OK, but nothing special. Consider that this isnt a cheap restaurant, and my reviews are always based on value for the money.

Our waiter was very attentive to our needs, the food was cooked to perfection, and the atmosphere was pure Italy. From the rosemary foccacia bred to the bread pudding, all was a delight. The owner and chef came to visit us at our table and was charming and a delight.

A lovely charming restuarant. Been there quite often when Im in CA. On NY Eve 4 of us dined there. No bread was provided with the dinner. I ordered bread - just the plain sliced Italian - 4 little slices were delivered in a cardboard little basket - not a regular plate. Most nicer restuarants usually provide some kind of bread with their meal. The food and dessert were very good. Parking: Limited parking in the immediate area of the restaurant

Well deserved 10/10 from me. Had my birthday dinner here, with total of 11 people in our party. Austin took care of our table and he was incredible, along with all the staff who were extremely attentive the entire night. My group really enjoyed the calamari and focaccia as appetizers. I enjoyed the pappardelle with the oxtail ragu. My party was very pleased with all the dishes they ordered. Our dinner ended with the staff singing happy birthday. A truly pleasant experience here.

Pretty much the best Italian food in Long Beach. Not terribly expensive. Full bar. Reservations recommended. Outdoor seating is comfortable but no heating. Dog friendly.

The pizzas are cooked in a wood fired oven with a house made dough that takes 72 hours. The crust is incredibly thin, yet sturdy, and supports the toppings of high quality meats and cheeses. Good wine list with some not-so-common Italian varietals and the lasagna .*chefs kiss*

Food was fabulous, but service lacked and we felt they were rushing us out we were there 1 hour. We were never asked how things were no offer of another drink we had to flag the server down to get one and noticed our server was attentive to other tables but not us. Asked if we want dessert before we were done eating we said probably not and check was presented immediately!!! The bussers were only interrested in getting the plates off the table when we were still eating.

I was with a large group, but Marco was a great server. He explained the menu and gave us suggestions. We had the fried calamari as a starter. It was so tender and tasty that I didnt really need the sauce. The whole meal was flavorful; I ate every morsel.
