Open Sesame has been voted a Best of Long Beach winner for the last 14 years!
Our Mediterranean fare goes back several thousand years of gastronomical evolution - the spices, ingredients and cooking techniques we use can be traced back to Phoenician, Greek, Arab, Roman and Ottoman traditions.
We believe that we are transformed by the life force of the food we eat, that it is an essential component of who we become. We have never compromised the quality and time necessary to translate that understanding into our work.
Since 1999 Open Sesame has offered cuisine created from scratch with heart and passion... to nourish and revive memories of the flavors and traditions that we cherish.
Returning to Open Sesame Grill after 10 years has given me a whole new perspective. The food and service have only gotten better. Our waiter was extremely attentive, and the food was so good that we literally emptied our plates. I also appreciated the ceremony of cleaning our hands with rose water and the attention from someone who appeared to be in management, checking to ensure everything was okay at our table!

Funky place to have some Lebanese food and definitely worth the trip to Long Beach.
Haven’t been here for over a year and decided to head down to see if it was still the standard for Lebanese food in the area. Suffice it to say the food is solid in terms of quality and taste. The decor is full of articles and photos giving the history of the place and area. Best to make reservations so as not to wait in line.

A great place to sample Mediterranean, predominantly Lebanese cuisine. The joint is plagued with an odd layout. There are multiple dining rooms with no access between them. There's also a bar facing the kitchen where all the meat grilling takes place. The food is delicious and somewhat authentic, but it may take a while to get to the table, especially during busy hours. Prices are too high, but the dining experience is pleasant enough to compensate for that.

Love the food..... didnt need to wait too long and wait staff is on top of everything. Thats great. Its super loud in the restaurant.... and some parents should not be allowed to have their kids in there with scooters. Or restaurant... hold on to them until the family is done so theyre not racing around a small dining area :) food great.... maybe go when its less busy during the week? Also, parents, if yours kids arent restaurant trained, get a babysitter! None of us need our meals interrupted by badly behaving people, especially kids.

Outstanding Mediterranean food! We ordered falafel side dish, beef shawarma pita & chicken shawarma plate. Would definitely order all 3 again. They also package takeout food very well - secure containers, utensil packs w/napkins & tied up tight in a plastic bag. Ordered online& it was ready before the promised time. The only bummer is the parking - but all parking on 2nd st is difficult on a Saturday evening.

Our family went in for lunch. The male server was nice however the kitchen seems to be a mess. We received the sides for our order (fries and potatoes) long before the rest of the food and were even already cold as they got to the table. Worst part is there was a long dark HAIR on one of our potatoes. When I told a female server she didnt apologize and instead argued that it was just on the top of the food and not mixed in. WTH? How does that matter? There was no attempt at making things right other than serving us another bowl of cold potatoes to replace the ones with hair. Cold, overpriced, mediocre food with hair is all I associate this restaurant now and would not recommend it to anyone.

such a cute little place, though it can get crowded, we didn t make reservations and it wasn t more than ten minutes before we got seated at the bar. food is great, some of the best basmati rice I ve ever had, and the food is basically prepared in front of you if you sit at the bar. parking is a somewhat difficult due to the busy location but manageable, lots of little shops to see around when you re done eating. Parking: most of the street parking near the restaurant on 2nd street is paid, there is some free parking in the neighborhood streets if you don t mind walking a little bit. Kid-friendliness: Not a very kid friendly space, very busy and crowded, didn t notice a changing table in the bathroom, and the the restaurant does not have a play space. I didn t see a single child around me on a Saturday evening.

Food was good portion was ok as middle eastern I hate it when they serve rice with grilled kababs but why I don t tolerate is when I get dirty fork that still has dried parsley on it and it was wrapped with the napkin before it was placed on my table. So apparently you have to bring you own sanitizer next time.

Delicious food and wonderful service. I had the vegan and loved every single item on the plate...most especially the babaganouj and the falafel. The falafel was nice and crunchy and well seasoned and the babaganouj was smoky just like it should be. My hubby had the sultan and I happily sampled off his plate too. All the meat was cooked the way he asked for it and was tender and juicy. We had to wait 15 mins for a table - because its so busy...and rightly so because the food is fantastic and they serve ample portions. Another member of our party had the lamb shanks and was quite pleased with them. I highly recommend them. The only negative is that its a bit tight in the restaurant and some of the tables have people walking by quite a bit. Luckily we were sat in the back booth and had no trouble with that. Another option to avoid the foot traffic is to be seated outside. Happy eating

Stepping into Open Sesame Mediterranean Restaurant is like catching that perfect SoCal vibe, where every flavor and aroma hits you with a sunny warmth that just gets you stoked for the meal ahead. Right from the get-go, the place has this chill yet exotic feel, setting you up for a rad culinary cruise through the Mediterranean. Now, lets talk about the Chicken Tawook. This dish is the real MVP, no kidding. Its grilled to absolute perfection, with each bite packed with so much tenderness and juiciness, it s like a flavor wave you just wanna ride all night. The chefs here? Theyve got skills that take simple chicken to next-level awesome. And yo, the hummus? Seriously legendary. It s so creamy, so rich, it s like theyve found the secret recipe to hummus heaven. Dipping into it, youll wanna slow down and savor every bit because it s that mind-blowing. Don t even get me started on the appetizers. The cauliflower and potato slices with that garlicky goodness? Absolute game-changers. The cauliflower comes out all crispy and golden, with a smoky flavor that s balanced out by a kick of garlic. And those potatoes are just as epic, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, all wrapped up in this addictive garlic sauce. Open Sesame is more than just a spot to grab a bite; it s where you go for the full SoCal dining experience. This place is all about creating vibes with passion-filled dishes that make you feel right at home. Its got mad respect from locals and foodies alike, and for good reason. The vibe is laid-back, the service is on point, and the atmosphere? Totally inviting. If you re cruising for some Mediterranean flavors or just wanna dive into a meal that s all kinds of delicious, Open Sesame is where its at. Highly recommended? That s an understatement. This joint isnt just about eating; its about enjoying the ride. And trust me, its one culinary journey you ll wanna take again and again.

It s been awhile since I ve tasted Lebanese foods and my palet might be biased, but the food was good, the staff great and pleasant atmosphere for the most part. My wife and friend shared the Lamb Kabobs and they melted in MY mouth due to generosity of portions and small appetite of my wife and her friend. I had the Kafta ( lamb and beef mix?) kabob and it too, was great tasting, moist and tender. The falafels were a bit crispier than needed. Other than having a seat next to the door and I couldn t keep my jacket on the back of my chair due to the traffic at the door . Not a big issue .. definitely viewed Open Sesame as having reasonable prices for the quality of food and superb service . Next time I come to town ( from Minnesota) will definitely stop back!!!

This restaurant was on my list for a very long time as I heard it was one of the best Middle Eastern restaurants in California. Unfortunately, the hype did not live up to the actual experience. The food just wasnt as flavorful or tender as I would have hoped. Maybe its because I lived in Michigan for several years and have tried some of the best Mediterranean food in the country, but this place was an overall letdown. That being said, I do recommend the beef kebab. Dietary restrictions: Halal meat.
