With an ambiance from yesteryear, an award-winning wine list and a menu built around hand-cut and dry-aged steak, 555 East has been one of Southern California’s most talked about steakhouses since 1984. Discover the flagship American steakhouse in Long Beach that makes any occasion special. Private dining capabilities also available.
The bread initially was tough, but after requesting fresh bread, it was significantly better. I asked the server to recommend the perfect wine to accompany my steak dinner, and it took quite a while for them to bring it, along with the Manhattan I had ordered. Additionally, if you choose to sit inside near the door, there are gnats flying around, which can be quite bothersome while eating. I suggest opting to sit indoors to avoid constantly swatting away gnats. Once my server, Shadi, arrived, she was extremely understanding and attentive. When I decided to switch my Manhattan for a wine drink, she graciously accommodated my request. Concerned that I might be causing trouble, I asked her, but she assured me that they strive to satisfy their customers. The steak was absolutely delicious, and I will definitely return for it. The mashed potatoes were also delightful, making me crave an entire bowl of them. The customer service provided by my server, Shari, was exceptional, and I left her a $32 tip. She made me feel at ease, as did the woman who answered the phone. I would recommend this place, but I suggest bringing $300 to $400, depending on the number of people in your party, as the food is quite expensive but worth it. My bill came to $108 for my first visit, and I would rate my experience at 97% overall. As I was leaving, I heard buzzing sounds while waiting for my cheesecake to go, only to discover a large spider in the corner. After informing my server, she promptly brought the manager, David, who had another staff member take care of it. Despite my complaint, David kindly offered me a free dessert to take home, in addition to the cheesecake I had ordered, which I found to be a generous gesture. The cheesecake was absolutely delicious, and I will definitely order it again. If you are celebrating an anniversary or birthday, this is the perfect place to go, as they give away free desserts for your celebration it tends to be quite crowded. The woman on the phone recommended making a reservation on weekends, as they get busy, but during the day, you should have no trouble finding a table.

We had a wonderful dining experience at this steakhouse. Everything was perfect, from the warm bread to the mouth watering butter cake. Our waiter, Donald, was exceptional and his recommendations for first timers were on point. Service to the customers were still attentive even on a busy Long Beach Grand Prix weekend.
Everything we ordered was delicious. Donald was correct when he said Chilean Sea Bass was the best. Fish was cooked to perfection and it literally melts in your mouth. Sides are more than enough to share, especially the Mac n cheese side. And the butter cake was exceptional!

From the moment you walk in, the ambiance sets a sophisticated tone with its polished wood, dim lighting, and comfortable seating. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, providing excellent service throughout the meal.
While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and the overall dining experience justify the cost. For a special occasion or a high-quality meal, 555 East American Steakhouse is a top choice in Long Beach

I was scouting locations for an intimate surprise dinner party to celebrate my sister's engagement (21 guests). 555 was recommended by a family member and I'm so glad we went with this venue!
Event Planning: MEGAN IS FRIGGIN AWESOME. She was so helpful in answering my (many!) questions. The booking process was straightforward and she went above and beyond to accommodate any special requests & dietary restrictions. On the day of, Megan was so welcoming to us and helpful with our decor set up. She even stuck around throughout the event to make sure the surprise went off without a hitch.
Pricing: pri fixe menu was affordable considering what was included. (We chose a $110/PP option that included choice of starter, choice of entree, and dessert).
Food: The food was outstanding! We had a few platters during cocktail hour and the presentation was beautiful. For our dinner, guests had the choice caesar salad or clam chowder to start. Main selections were petit filet, sea bass, and chicken. Broccolini and mashed potatoes were shared at the table. The sea bass was sooooo good, and our guests raved about the steak. They even accommodated some vegetarians and picky eaters with pasta options. For dessert, our guests enjoyed creme brûlée. The chef also sliced our custom cake and they didn't charge a cake cutting fee.
Service: Ray! Oh Ray made our night. He was so attentive and so kind to our guests. We definitely worked him and the support staff, but he took it on the chin and was so quick to refill drinks and make sure everyone was taken care of. There was a slight hiccup at the beginning - guests drinks were meant to be on separate tabs and that wasn't the case during cocktail hour. I ended up just eating that cost because it wasn't worth the fuss / headache of trying to sort it out at the end. But again. This was only a slight hiccup. Ray was phenomenal and his level of service exceeded every expectation. We couldn't be more grateful.
Valet: Valet is available right outside for $8. This was very convenient since parking in the DTLB is always a fight, especially on a Friday night.
To the entire 555 Team, thank you for making an unforgettable night that much more memorable. I will certainly be back the next time I am in town, and hope to enjoy their live pianist!

Bros and Dudes & Chics & Lady friends … Hear Hear!
This place … the food .. the Steak, is worth it!!!
Check out, I ordered the 16oz Ribeye ($65) and added the Capella ($7 adder). Ordered it medium rare. Was cooked perfectly!! From the first bite, it was like flavor flowing into my mouth and overjoyed me with gratitude to have taste buds and teeth to chew! The cut of meat was wonderful. The Capella topping - which was onions and mushrooms “heavily browned” - was good, but too heavy on the onions and not enough mushrooms. Either way, not necessary to enjoy the steak. Steak was obviously prepared with good seasonings (dry aged I think?).
I have the loaded popo (short for ‘tato, which is short for POtato). That was very enjoyable also.
No salad this time as I wanted to save internal real estate for the main guest, Mr. Ribeye. That was a good call on my part.
Waitress was wonderful. At first she might’ve been business, but then she warmed up to my charming personality and relentless smile. It happens. She wore a pin on her tie of a cat and dog, so we chatted cats and dogs. Super cool though.
Also Dave came out with extra cheese for my tato, per my request. He was very cool, like me , but like him.
We sat outside. Was a great evening. Good atmosphere.
Ended the meal with a lovely tawny port Graham 10yr. Quite a pleasant way to end the meal.

Tonight is 555 Steakhouses 40th anniversary! My friend is an invited guest, and since he gets to bring along a friend, I took me. Weve been here many times. The steak here has to be one of the best in town if not the best. Tonight the restaurant is closed to the public with invited guests only. Food was buffet style but a high quality buffet! Oysters, steaks, scallops, shrimp, desserts and unlimited drinks! We had a great time with great food! The Long Beach Mayor made a speech before we toast at exactly 5:55 PM. This restaurant is very classy and has great food. It can be a romantic date or a business meeting. I highly recommend this place! And its very close to the Long Beach Pier.

Took my sister here last night for her birthday and it did not disappoint! Probably the most delicious ribeye steak we had ever tasted! They gave her a free crème brûlée with a candle. Manhattans were delicious. Live pianist right in the middle of the restaurant. It was very crowded and very loud; hard to have much conversation, but we highly recommend for the delicious food. Our waitress was good and our waters were constantly filled.

The steak was seriously delicious. The prices are modest compared to steakhouses in Hollywood and Beverly Hills. It says the budget is $50-100 per person, but I think its better to expect it to cost double that if you have a light drink and eat dessert. The atmosphere and service were good, so if I have friends coming from Japan, Id like to take them there.

Now this is a steak house! I can see what it came highly recommended and is one of the top restaurants in the city! I had the filet with a starter of clam chowder. The chowder was the best I had in Long Beach and tied for the best Ive had (which was in Monterey). The service was top notch, we wanted for nothing. Julien was our server. The manager even visited the table to make sure everything was going well. Oh, and the restaurant was PACKED and still the service was top-notch! Great atmosphere there, great art work, great design of the interior. Even though it was packed and loud, you could still hear the people you were with. Walked here from the Hyatt Long Beach by the Convention Center. It was probably a 10-15 minute walk, but a safe walk. Lots of hotels and apartment buildings, so plenty of people out walking their dogs or walking to meetings/dinners.

It s a little pricey for me so definitely a place for special occasions. Only down fall is if you don t do valet the parking sucks in down town Long Beach. Overall I will be coming back to eat here soon.

I m so sad to not be giving 5 stars. I ve been dining at 555 since 2021. The steaks rarely disappoint. Oysters and wine are good when recommended properly. Normally I rave about this place to others, but have found their service to be extremely inconsistent. Last night we dined with another couple who was there for their first time, and the waitress was particularly awful. I felt too bad to complain as it seemed busy, but she was definitely new and unfamiliar with the menu. Normally I ask the servers to bring a variety of oysters they recommend, and recommend a bottle of wine, etc. She just seemed lost and looking for guidance . To top it off, she accidentally ran into my hand with a serving plate while trying to clear it, and proceeded to mistakenly knock my iphone off the table and it landed face down on the floor. After that, we decided not to opt for a bottle or desert. Again, I really did feel bad for her and it s unfortunate she was put on the floor by management being as unprepared as she was. It makes the rest of the servers look bad and, to be honest, classed the place down a lot for me.

We visited this restaurant to celebrate a birthday, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. It took over 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us at our table. We decided to order appetizers, choosing the calamari and shrimp, which turned out to be quite tasty unfortunately, that was the highlight of our meal. After waiting a while, we had to track down our waiter to place our dinner orders. He suggested the bone-in NY steak and broccolini, which turned out to be a poor choice. The food was completely unseasoned and incredibly bland. One guest who ordered pasta described it as just mediocre. Those who chose the steak were left feeling very let down, and the service from our waiter was even more frustrating. It was nearly impossible to find him, and no one else was available to assist us. As a visitor from Atlanta, I was looking forward to dining here based on the positive reviews, but my experience fell far short of expectations. I would only suggest this place for appetizers, as the rest of the meal was not worth it.

I went here by accident a couple of years ago. I was totally not dressed for the occasion, heavy metal/ punk. Called and made a quick reservation, and honestly, they didnt treat me or my buddies any less. We were supposed to be at a show to support my buddies band, but my friend was underage, so we went here. Best service ever! Great food and calm and quiet atmosphere. Loved it, and I have been going back here 3 or 4 times a year. (better dressed this time)

I would 100% recommend 555 East Steakhouse for your date night or special event needs! I scheduled to have a private rehearsal dinner in their wine cellar room for 18 people. Megan helped me with all of the planning and the servers that we had (I feel terrible for forgetting their names) were incredible! My wife and I dined there for my birthday and it was probably the best experience at a steakhouse weve ever had. The food was spectacular and our server, Ray, was warm, welcoming, and funny. Not only did he make us laugh the whole night, but he paired our steaks with exquisite wines and gave us a full experience to what we couldve only thought was a private wine tasting session. Everything he recommended was delicious and Ill definitely be back to try more of the menu!

Top notch steakhouse. Came here for a work event and everything was so good. Had my first try at dry aged beef and the steak was incredible. Only feedback I d give is chops steak over sea bass. I didn t think that was overwhelmingly good.
Published at 3 months ago
Everything was delicious! Had zero complaints about any of the food! Steaks were cooked to perfection, and potatoes were very creamy and flavorful. The asparagus were cooked well and naturally sweet. The fresh, sour dough bread was also cooked beautifully. Perfectly crispy outside and nice soft inside. The creme Brule was the best weve ever had. Would definitely come back! The only reason one star docked for the atmosphere was because we were placed in the back room, which was nowhere near as soulfully decorated as the main dining room and the water pitchers were right next to my husband so every time a waiter went to grab the pitcher he felt like he was in their way.

I dont hand out 5 much but 555 deserves it. It was kind of busy, around dinner. We sat at the bar. Hand fantastic service, food that was excellent and cocktails that were perfect. Live piano. Baseball on TV and happy people all around enjoying their food and service. Dark wood and mirrors. Classy but not over the top.

Brad is fantastic! Loud. First and foremost, this place is loud. In a booth (which was extremely comfortable) I was quite literally shouting to my dinner guests. (Video included). I found out as we were leaving that there was a live piano player! I could not hear him. We went on a Thursday and it felt like a Friday. The other tables were a bit cramped and difficult to navigate around to get to the bathrooms and exit. The ceiling is dark, the wood is dark, the furniture is dark, the light is dim. Regarding the food: the French onion soup is divine! Sublime! A thick and bubbly layer of comte and gruyere peel back to a rich soup full of hefty onion slices and saturated croutons. Quite honestly the _best_ steak Ive ever had. They sell cheesecake thats rumored to be Frank Sinatras favorite (and now its my favorite as well). IF YOU WANT THE CHOCOLATE SOUFFLE, TELL YOUR WAITER BEFORE DESSERT, IT NEEDS TO BE PRE-ORDERED. This is not a bad thing. Just a FYI. They have information updated daily about their dry-aged steaks, time stamped and everything. (Picture included) There are only 2 stalls in the Womens restroom. Parking: $8 valet

555 is a terrific restaurant with great food and a great old school steakhouse feel. My wife and I both ordered the filet mignon and they were cooked to perfection (though the crust was a bit too crusty for my taste) and were so tender and juicy that they didnt even need a sauce on the side. I had the mashed potatoes and my wife had the baked potatoe that were both excellent but did not remain as hot as we would have wanted. We both also had the Ocean Boulevard cocktail (my wife had a virgin version) and they were nice and refreshing. For dessert, they brought out the creme brulee for my birthday and we also ordered the chocolate souffle. Both were great but the souffle was the real winner (even if we had to quit halfway through to being too full and it being very rich). The restaurant itself is nice and spacious with multiple rooms and great ambience. There is also outdoor seating but we sat inside so I cannot speak to that. The waitstaff was excellent and attentive, and we did not have to wait long for any of our orders. We were seared by the piano that, when the pianist began playing, was pretty loud. If we had known their would be a pianist that night we probably would have requested to be seated elsewhere. The restaurant also has valet which is a great thing to have since downtown LB can have a lack of available parking near the restaurant. The valet were nice and the price to park was reasonable. Overall, 555 is one of the top steakhouses in Long Beach, and we would definitely recommend it and come back again. Parking: Its tought to find street parking around but it can be found (both paid and free). 555 offers valet, though, which is a great option and reasonably priced.

I feel weird writing this as all I ve seen is great reviews for this restaurant. I visited as a lone diner early evening. The server was great, atmosphere was great so when my food arrived I was quite taken a back, considering what everyone had told me about this place. So I ordered the garlic mash and the 12oz filet medium rare. So it came and it was undercooked and embarrassingly I had to send it back. Now it was a big thick price of meat so I kinda get it but still for the price it should be right first time. It came back and it was a bit dry and burnt on the outside. Now I could have settled with that, however, it says it comes with bernaise sauce, now it did when it first came out, however, when it came back it didn t so it was very dry. On top of that, the garlic mash was just awful, it was like the glue you use in kindergarten. I ate the steak and left the mash, I just paid and left feeling slightly perterbed. As I say I ve heard nothing but good things about this place but unfortunately I didn t have the same experience.

Ray was the most personable waiter I probably have ever had. He made it truly a wonderful experience. Definitely recommend. Steaks were on point.

Came here with a large group, Ray was our server and transformed our meal into an entire experience. His extensive knowledge of wine and the menu offerings were second to none. The food was excellent from start to finish, and cheers to Ray!

My friend and I went here yesterday to have lunch, not crowded at all. We stood there waiting to be seated, for at least 5 minutes. 3 of your employees just looked at us. Not one person greeted us, acknowledged us, told us to, have a seat anywhere, nothing. We were there for the Grand Prix and thought this would be a nice place to have lunch at before we went. Very disappointed. I felt very out of place. So, we just walked out. We found a very nice Thai food place around the corner. If I could rate a zero I would. My friend and I felt very shunned, and we wont be going back here anytime soon, or at all.

We had our last dinner in California before returning back home at 555 East American Steakhouse. We could not have chosen a better place. We experienced genuine hospitality: wonderful service, great food and kindness. An exchange with the manger David added this special touch many restaurants lack today and made this last night even more special. Thank you David and the team.

If I am ranking against other steakhouses then this is a good 4 stars. Youll definitely get a great piece of meat here. The crab cake was pretty good and thick, although youll only get 1 for $17. Its a long standing establishment in Long Beach. I heard a lot of hype about it and I think my expectations were different, is what Ill say. I like a steakhouse that is a bit more modern in decor but I can appreciate the history and vibe of 555 also. Be prepared for something on the same vibe as House of Prime Rib in SF in terms of ambience. Dark inside with low lighting. White table cloth. Lots of wood and green leather booths to sit in. Its the type of place where lawyers, business people and mostly men, dressed in white collared shirts with sweaters and suits frequent. I got the surf and turf ($82) and the lobster was amazing and my fillet mignon perfectly cooked to my liking, medium rare. This was an excellent meal and I would definitely recommend 555 for a celebratory meal, a romantic dinner date, or a girls night out

I had a great atmosphere I liked the dark oak wood and we were greeted very nicely by the staff we were seated quickly because we had reservations fun music drinks were wonderful and I got the 45 day dry aged bone in rib-eye and for appetizers we got the oysters and the bread and dip and they came pretty quick wile the food was cooked. I m 11 and this was the best steak of my life. For dessert we got the chocolate soufflé our server was really nice and gave us recommendations because this is our first time at this restaurant.

Brilliant Steak house with exceptional meats and very good oysters. The beet salad is very tasty and balanced with goat cheese. The wine list is extensive and the markup on wines is relatively reasonable. The ambiance is very warm and old school. Additionally the restaurant is busy every night so you know this is a really good place. The staff are professional and attentive. Overall a must try for steaks if you are in the area.

Great food! Steak and seafood fare, all of which is top notch. Aged beef available if thats your thing. Service was excellent as well. Above average cost for a meal, but far from out of line in my opinion given the level of quality in preparation and service. I have nothing bad to say about this place except that parking for it is difficult to come by. Be prepared for a walk, but your appetite after will leave you prepared for an outstanding dining experience!

555 is always delicious. I ordered the NY Strip and loaded baked potato. My first steak came way too well done. They offered to re-cook and **chefs kiss** the 2nd one was perfection! Please do yourself a favor and have the butter cake!

We are pleasantly surprised to be at such a high standard restaurant. Food was amazing, ambiance was outstanding, most importantly the service was the best i ve seen in Long Beach. Very surprised to see white table cloths, thank you Bianca served us with a deep knowlegde on the menu and a huge smile on her face. Great service, 5 stars

The wagyu steaks are a MUST try!! They are proud that all their beef is raised here in the USA and I love that. This is a USDA PRIME house so the price reflects that. You wont be disappointed! Food : 5/5

I still cannot believe our waiter chopped up my dessert (chocolate soufflé) in front of my boyfriend and I, Right after setting it on the table then setting half on a plate for him and the other half on a plate for me he didn t ask, didn t give us a reason. Just chop chop with some spoons and destroyed this beautiful dessert And then Split it up for us.. when I said OH My.. we were going to just share it out of the bowl it came in.. the waiter responded no that s ok I did this for you instead Like Yeah NO Thanks. Just so random. Iv never seen this and it was the weirdest experience lol. The food itself was all good. Props to the chef. But our waiter was bizarre the whole night.

The food was very good and the service was amazing. I have celiac disease (severe gluten allergy) and our server Leslie was very knowledgeable. I had noted the allergy when I made the reservation, and she came to the table prepared. I felt very confident eating there and was pleased with all the gluten free options. Dietary restrictions: Good gluten free options and very knowledgable staff

The service was fantastic. My filet mignon was overcooked but flavorful. The squash and baked potato were divine. The restaurant was just as lovely as I remembered it (sans the outdoor seating added since the pandemic... that was not there when I visited last). I am sure I will be back again soon. And definitely valet... Parking is at a premium in the area. It could take forever on a weekend evening to find street parking anywhere in the vicinity.

They offer the sirloin cap which is a rare cut to find at a steakhouse. It is the most flavorful cut that I ve experienced and this one did not disappoint. Was cooked perfectly to medium rare. Service was pretty mediocre and $13 for a rail drink is a bit steep

Where to begin This restaurant is easily one of my TOP three! I just wish it was in Fl. So when you walk in the beautiful glass and stained wood entrance you are immediately greeted with a smile and can I help you. I had a reservation and I highly recommend you make one. This is a warm and welcoming place but very busy. Controlled caious Lol. Our server Robert met us quickly and took control of the dinning experience. He was absolutely brilliant. He made all the right suggestions and the food was perfect. He explained the importance of dry aging beef and the difference between the two. Beginning with half shell oysters with side sauces were amazing. The bread was very tasty. Then we enjoyed clam chowder and onion soup. Really nice. Then the star of the night Filet and Ribeye. Oh my . Nope can t describe how tender and flavorful this dish is. The mashed potatoes are smooth creamier than most. Butter nut squash tender flavorful. The red wine smooth velvety rich. And the desert, apple turnover with vanilla ice cream Fantastic Serious meals with top flight service from people well beyond the upper echelons of food service. Give Robert a thank you and say hello to my new favorite steak house. Enjoy

Been longing to try Japanese wagyo with all that heavenly compliments of melting in your mouth. The meat was sorta gooey? Like you cant break it down, instead, chewing it and spit out that leathery portion. Its quite far from what my excitement fulfilled. I could have had just play safe and ordered instead a ribeye or filet mignon. At $99 ? that is outrageously out of proportion, the Buck for the Foodie ! *this just an addendum to the above review posted last nite. It has really bothered me, thinking about that chewy, supposedly melts-in-your mouth Super Steak is a steal. I mean, stole from me. Dang meat, I could get that from Dennys top sirloin. Well, maybe somebodys bright idea, said, go serve it on, this Asians wouldnt know any better.... Thats the Most Expensive rubbery steak not worth a fraction of its price. And well enough I would know, I used to be a Teppan chef, And I know a good steak... *Now I blew my frustration .... I feel Better now.

Absolutely fantastic service, atmosphere and food! The parking gets a little tricky if you don t wanna do valet but that s downtown Long Beach for you. Make sure you ask your waiter or waitress their recommendations! Ray was so helpful guiding us through the menu and what wine to pair with it, we loved every single bite. Please DO NOT leave without getting the goat cheese appetizer or the crab cake, both were my favorite appetizers. I got the surf and turf, and they ended up substituting the filet mignon for one of their New York steaks, which I absolutely loved. And just when you thought you couldn t eat any more, the butter cake comes and blows you off your feet. Also highly recommend the Sherly Temple, the cherries are some kind of fancy variety that I have never tasted before and I was so impressed. Amazing experience!! The only reason I took off one star is because it took us about two hours to get our food. We came on a Wednesday night and had a reservation, but when an hour and a half past and we hadn t been served our main course we got a little impatient and asked our server. He said that the kitchen was backed up, but our food would be out and the next five minutes-ish. About 15 minutes later our food came, and we noticed that none of them were especially hot. On top of that the dishes all came out about five minutes apart so we had about seven people in our party and maybe 2-3 dishes came out at a time and then five minutes later another dish would come out so it left us in an awkward place of some of us having food and just staring at our plates while waiting for the other dishes to come out. We had a reservation at 6:30 and we ended up eating a little past 8:30 and it just made our night later than we wanted to spend on a Wednesday. I think we left at 9:30 or 10 by the time everyone was done with dessert and the check came. But I will easily look past all of this and definitely will be coming again because the service and food were all outstanding. Vegetarian options: If you only want to get sides or salad you can pull off having a vegetarian meal. I m a little more hesitant to say you could pull of a vegan meal though. I will say that I m a vegetarian most days but there was so many fantastic things on the menu that the waiter explained with such enthusiasm that I ended up doing a cheat day. If you re going to do it, do it here. It says on the menu that all the food is ethically sourced, so my conscious could take some solace from that.

Always good always the best still the best steaks they seem to be getting smaller but I guess thats life in the big city in the year 2023 24 and of course the prices keep going app martini glasses I noticed have gotten very significantly I should say smaller but yet the price went app your martini glass is way too small go back to the original youre getting the price now way too much manyway I love the place but You might wear me out with the prices and the smaller portions youre potatoos mashed potatoes were cold when they were served they havent been warmed in the last few Times Parking: Getting worse all the time its really a nightmare going there the line for The Valley is too long you had 1 person working the valet how can that be the restaurant was full maximum ridiculous
