I ve been ordering food from Basil & Cheese for about 8 months now. If you re tired of junk food and want to add some healthy dishes to your diet, this is the place to go. They have genuinely tasty salads, lots of greens which means plenty of fiber. The dishes are well-balanced in terms of proteins, carbs, and fiber. They also have great service. You can call, customize ingredients, or schedule your order to be ready on time. I wish there were more places like this!

I was excited to come to this place, the actual location is nice and clean, as soon as I walked in I wasn t welcomed and the lady at the cashier had a poker face, and this didn t change through out the whole transaction and ordering of my food. I ordered the burrito which was completely salty, it wasn t edible at all, the only thing that kinda saved the day was the latte I got, I received it without sugar, and upon asking for sugar I was given two little packs. Please guys, do better

I really wanted to give 5 stars, and I would have had if the lady at the cashier had answer my question in a nicer way. I always ask the brand of the chai latte because there are some very famous ones (used in a lot of places) that I do not like. So I usually ask, and if its one of these, I order another drink. It is the first time that someone look at me like I ask the most stupid question and reply I cannot tell you. Cannot or didnt want to, no idea, but the tone was very cold. That being said, I first ate a toast in (serve by a different staff, very professional and friendly) and the food was absolutely delicious!! The portion was generous and I would definitely recommend to eat there. In the end, I did not get the chai latte. The raspberry-matcha was good.

its not worth the money, the taste is average, theres not enough fish, its pointless to waste money on a bagel with a thin layer of fish and avocado, and its also ridiculous that lemonade costs $6 and is poured into a glass from a bottle because it tastes like the cheapest lemonade

Although I liked the concept and variety of the available food on the menu, the taste of the avocado turkey sandwich that I bought the other day was not for me. The egg inside the sandwich was overcooked it almost tasted burnt. Unfortunately, I didn t have time to complain in person as I had to rush to my taxi, but I have a feeling the staff would have fixed it.

I was in DTLA to meet my family for brunch and they suggested this cool little cafe called Basil & Cheese. It was a rainy day and the cafe was packed. We managed to order and find some seating. My experience left me feeling like I was in a metropolitan city for once. I didn t feel like I was in LA. It was probably the rain, but DTLA is changing so much, it really is starting to feel like a downtown area. Let s hope it keeps going. The cafe s decor is somehow both professional and personable. The owner s personality and care really come through in the details of the cafe. You see photos of their dog, the restroom key is a dog toy, I was amused by all of this. When you delve a bit deeper into their presentation elements from their website, the menu, coffee cups, pastry + dessert display cases, everything is just really cohesive and well thought out. Whoever figured this out really cares and wants to do right by their customers. As for the food and coffee- I don t think you can find a cafe that can do both really well. Definitely not in DTLA. Somehow they re doing it here. Sure we waited a bit for our food to come out, but the wait was well worth it. And come on, it s a small cafe, have a little grace and patience. You re not getting a burrito as good as their machaca burrito at Verve or an espresso shot at Sonoratown (I love Sonoratown, I am not hating on Sonoratown right now). Give this cafe a shot, I don t think you ll regret it!

I have visited Basil & Cheese on two different occasions now. The first time I visited, I tried their Machaca Burrito. The shredded beef was juicy + tender, the tater tots - crispy, yet soft on the inside. The bell pepper, egg, & cheese rounds out what turns out to be a very good breakfast burrito. The salsa, while a bit mild for my taste, is very tasty. The second time I visited, I tried the ABC Bagel Sandwich on a jalapeno bagel. The bagel was light and easy to chew. The arugula & bacon nestled in between a nice ratio of cream cheese and avocado combined to make a nice bagel sandwich. The coffee available here is also very good! They have both single origin and mixed blends available to drink from. So far I have tried the Americano and Cold Brew, and both were great! There are a decent amount of seats in the cafe; the window spots provide a nice view of the city while you enjoy your food/coffee.

My fiancé and I ordered $55 worth of food and coffee with 20% tip up front. As soon as we sat down at a communal table (before we received our food) the owner said the table was reserved for a large group in 20 mins and we had to give it up. Terrible experience when you are a paying customer and immediately told you matter less than other customers. Especially before we received our food! This was our first and last time coming here. Food and coffee was decent but not worth being treated this way. We ll take our dollars elsewhere. I will note that the owner was very apologetic when we were leaving.

Short commentary Overall a good stop for breakfast. More complete commentary The food was excellent. I get a little pissed off when I can t find salt and pepper or my own sweeteners to cater to my food the way I like. Reminders of that ignorance factor perpetuated in Starbucks post Covid Like there is value and not touching your own sweeteners That said the people were very polite clean kind. Just a little bit too much of that present generation separation of people from people that keeps showing up in these more modern venues. I m also intrigued by places that push the tipping on you with their computer tablet process in places where you re not really getting traditional tipping service. I believe my criticism is more of the company and its decisions in design than any of the people or food quality matters. Like I said, in the beginning - a pretty good stop for breakfast.

Basil & Cheese Cafe is one of the best cafes I ve ever visited! We were looking for a breakfast spot while we were visiting Downtown LA, and came across this cute cafe. The interior is adorably decorated with Basil & Cheese art, and the staff was incredibly friendly! We ordered the Tiramisu Latte, Iced Cafe Nopali, Chorizo Breakfast Burrito, Avocado and Burrata Toast and a Chocolate Croissant. Everything came out so quickly; all the food had great presentation and tasted delicious! The Avocado and Burrata was honestly one of the best I ve had, perfect amounts of each ingredient made every bite as good as the last. The croissant was also baked to perfection: flaky & full of chocolate. If you re looking for a cafe in DTLA, definitely check out Basil & Cheese!

I ve worked in the food industry for 15 years. I ve never come across such a penny-pinching place. This place will resale you another persons dish if it doesn t look touched!!! If you don t like the food, they will not give you your money back or exchange it for something else. Zero customer service etiquette. My husband and I and our two kids ordered our food. All dishes and drinks came out except for my sons chicken pesto and drink. After waiting for around 20 minutes, we told one of the employees, and they said it was on the way. They had forgotten his drink and meal. When it arrived, the sandwich was dry and stale, probably reheated more than once. NOT fresh at all. My son took a bite, and he didn t like it. We asked an employee if we could change for another sandwich, and he returned it to the kitchen. The owner came out, and we explained. He went back into the kitchen and brought the sandwich back to the table while laughing. He stressed that he couldn t resale the sandwich because we had taken a bite, and according to him, nothing was wrong with it, and he would not give us another sandwich in exchange unless we purchased it. We didn t mind paying if that meant my kid could comfortably eat a decent meal. But he made us feel foolish for even asking and him laughing just mad us livid. We said thank you and proceeded to wrap up and leave. Never coming back.

Easily some of the best breakfast/brunch food Ive had in all of LA. Ive been to all the fancy popular places all over the city but the quality of food and price of this place does not compare. The service is lovely, the vibes of the place were so warm and welcoming, and they have the best selection of food and drinks. Everything was so well portioned for the price, but more importantly, the taste exceeded any and all expectations. Everything was so well seasoned but not heavy at all. Easy on the stomach but so filling and so delicious. The coffee was also superb, and the chai tea latte and matcha latte were perfectly sweet and had the most amazing depth of flavour. I wasnt able to snap a picture of their vast pastry menu, but everything I dried was mouthwateringly good. I had the almond croissant, maple scone, and one of their muffins. They have a great vegan and gluten free menu as well. Im easily going to become a regular here!

Superb cafe experience that provides a nice break from the surrounding area (busy streets). Delicious pastries, yummy lattes, excellent staff and customer service, clean and decorative interior, and the owner is friendly and personable. Wishing the business continues to do well!

Nice people. The machaca breakfast burrito is delicious. Theyre also the only cafe in DTLA that has a honey cinnamon latte, which is one of my fav coffee drinks.
