Civil Coffee DTLA

I'm a bit skeptical because when I went, almost an hour before closing time, the cafe was completely empty and the staff was cleaning, which gave a strange atmosphere. The staff was however every friendly and nice.
I ordered the matcha with almond milk and lavender (Liquid Gold) and the lavender taste was so strong that it was not possible to say, except for the colour, that there was matcha in it.. so the drink was a bit of a disappointment.

I was looking for a nice cafe to chill and read at, and I found the perfect spot at Civil. I got an iced almond milk latte, and it tasted very light and great! The price was pretty standard ($5-7) given that it’s in DTLA. The space is really open with plenty of natural light and seating available (and outlets too, which is a big plus). The music was also great and not too loud or distracting, making it a perfect spot to work. The workers were super friendly and welcoming; one of them kindly even brought out a glass of water while I was seated. Overall I loved the vibes, and I’ll definitely be back here again!

Absolutely in love with their Honey Hojicha Flat White and for the ones who don’t like sweet but love flavor, try out their iced dark mocha ganache latte. Additional to their breakfast burritos and fancy toast, civil coffee serves pastries from sugar no bloom bakery . The sugarbloom bakery ham and cheese croissant with the tangy cornichon is oh so delicious . Love the light that shines through through the #coffeeshop .

The coffee is good. The owner is unpleasant. I'm a local and I've been coming here over the years and have always been offered a free drip coffee when I bought beans. But when I bought beans today and asked about the free coffee, the owner got super salty with me and said, "We don't do that here," and then tried to gaslight me that I'd been going to the Highland Park location (I've never been there.)

So instead of just being chill and friendly, he got confrontational, made a big deal of giving me the coffee and made me feel unwelcome and unappreciated as a customer. Bad vibes all around.

Nice place , good view of the busy streets of l.a , spacious, quiet , nice decor instagram worthy , the cashier was nice I brought a apple pastries for about 6.00 it was pretty good just doors down from my model call which was convenient. There's a lot of light in the building . Parking sucks, meter parking , street parking , I didn't get the water you see in the picture from there

Civils coffee is hit or miss. Their specialty drinks are either unassuming or not particularly good. I enjoy being able to spend some quiet time at a coffee shop, but Civils interior is cold and uninviting. While the staff is very friendly, Id not want to do more than stop in for a quick drink--but of course not too late in the day or on a Sunday, since they are closed. In an area where there are many hipster/craft coffee shops, Id recommend going elsewhere.

Big windows facing street. Warm and light. Good seating. Matcha is ceremonial grade from Japan and was spot on in an oat latte not sweetened. Good coffee selection. Barista spot on with drinks all made in real cup.

This is a cute little spot in dtla, and they re serving up so really good coffee. I ordered the vanilla oaty and loved how it was unique and came topped with Hawaiian black lava salt. It was delish!

I m new to DTLA and happened upon this coffee shop while in a search for anything other than Starbucks. Unfamiliar with the menu, the barista (Vince) convinced me not to overthink and I m glad I took his advice. I had the ganache mocha latte and it was so DIVINE that I returned 30 min later for a SECOND helping. You absolutely must try and you will not be disappointed! SMOOTHEST coffee I ve ever tasted!

Love going to Civil Coffee in Highland park- and their new location in downtown LA did not disappoint! I had the Figueroa coffee and the Angelino burrito for lunch and my friend had the green tea latte. Their barbacoa breakfast burrito is on point, as is their matcha donut! The setting was very relaxing and many locals stopped by for coffee on their lunch breaks. And if you want to get some shopping done, they are just a few blocks from linen district along with many other vendors!

The staff is so friendly!! Everything I have tried so far has been amazing. The chorizo burrito is ridiculous. If you do anything with your day, eat that chorizo burrito. I accompany that baby with a Figueroa drink, now that s a happy meal right there. *I wish I had photos but I was so excited to eat it, I completely forgot to take a picture. But I ll be back again until then, I ll meet the burrito in my dreams.

I love love love Civil! Its my go to spot for a quick caffine fix when Im in a rush and for quiet place to focus when Im working on a Saturday morning. The playlist is always on point (and varies!) and the astethics here are immaculate. All of the staff here are super friendly (special shout out to Hyun!). I also love the Highland Park location, but havent ventured out to the Studio City one yet.

On a hot day i was looking for an ideal place to read a book while having a cool drink and i found civil coffee in down town Los Angeles. It turned out to be the perfect place. The music is ideal for reading without distraction, the people who work there are very friendly and know their job well, the place has enough light and is very comfortable. But the best was my coffee. An Ice late with Oat milk, simply delicious. I will definitely return to this coffee shop Highly recommended.

If youre looking to sip DAMN GOOD coffee in an amazing space surrounded by friendly faces, this is the place for you. Ive been coming here almost daily not only to get my favorite food + coffee, but also to hang out with the chill baristas and the owners Alex + Alan. I highly recommend the ICE MOCHA and the BREAKFAST CROISSANT. They make their chocolate ganache in house and their croissants are so flakey and buttery. Hands down my favorite coffee shop DTLA!

Airy and spacious place to work or read for a few hours. The barista and cashier were some of the warmest and most welcoming people Ive met at a coffeeshop. For coffee, I got the lavender latte, and it was clear that the baristas really know what theyre doing there! The latte was nicely balanced and there was some incredible foam art on top. I also got the avocado toast, which was pretty simple (avacado and peas on toast), but was seasoned well and very tasty. Cant wait to go back!

Whoever the owner is needs to fire the dude with long hair. Horrible customer service. I ordered a breakfast burrito, it came to me with no salsa, I asked for salsa please, they replied they were out. I said I wish you would have told me when I ordered. He said what s the difference and I said I don t want a burrito with no salsa that is intended and comes with salsa normally. He said would you like a refund? I accepted. He then was like are you kidding me? As I packed up to leave and walk out the door he sits at counter and stops working to eat the burrito himself and waved goodbye to me with a smirk. Horrible experience. Never have I seen someone work in customer service who acted with such hate and malice to a customer over a breakfast burrito.

I have enjoyed Civil Coffees coffee and space in Highland Park and this new DTLA cafe has a different look and vibe. It is spacious, and neat with full wall street windows. I like the bright space to enjoy my breakfast. I had a cortado and a breakfast burrito, both are good, not phenomenal. The burrito is not made to order and just heated up here so its not as fresh and tasty at the OG location.

This location used to be Stumptown coffee s second(or third depending on Ace hotel popup coffee) location right before covid. But even before covid, I wonder this location is a reasonable choice. Anyhow, no Civil coffee takes over this location and I am curious whether this makes it.

Normally this is my go-to place for grabbing coffee because its amazing (the Figueroa specifically). However, I will not be ordering anymore food from here. I ordered my usual coffee and decided to order a breakfast burrito on the side. The guy rings me up and then I pay and wait for my coffee. I look over and I see him touch my burrito and put it on the grill. At first, I thought I was tripping so I let it slide and just watched him carefully. He then proceeds to take other customers orders touching the screen, touches his nose, just to use his hands to flip over my burrito. I then see him touch his hair, and once my food was done take his hands to package it up. I immediately ask for a refund for the burrito. He did offer to remake the burrito, but I kindly declined. With everything going on right now, places should handle food better. Very unsanitary. I appreciate the lady who made my coffee and used tongs and washed her hands properly.

I ve come to this place several times and they have great matcha donuts! 4/5 stars because I normally order the matcha latte but the last few times there were bristles from the brush in my drink. I mentioned it to the barista the first time and they changed the brush but it has happened twice since then so I haven t been back. They have the best tasting matcha lattes in the area though!

I stopped in here on 06/30/22 in the morning! The vibe here is at 1000! The guy at the register was so cool super friendly and you can tell all the regulars love him! The coffee was amazing! I got the solid gold which was also amazing! I d highly recommend stopping in!

Absolutely love their new location. I ve been going to the Highland Park shop for years and Downtown is just as beautiful. Great place to stop buy when you are in DTLA, service was very quick for those on a rush, friendly staff members, and a nice modern vibe. I recommend the Iced Figueroa. I had the opportunity to try their instant coffee from Oaxaca and it was really good. It is perfect when I wake up late and need good quality coffee quick.

Newest kid on the block is so dope! Absolutely love the space. If you re into people watching and basking in the sun, just hang out by the high rise windows. If you wanna stay cool and work on your computer, there is plenty of space around the sexy bar or on the gold tables. And they have small bites! Bomb barbacoa burrito and salmon toast. So if youre hitting up the flower market, Santee street (to get that Tiger blanket), or just visiting the Fashion District, you best to stop on by. Allen and Alex are amazing they bring a different vibe to downtown LA coffee. They really care about their craft, coffee. My favorite drink is the Figueroa. Plenty of seating inside to catch up on emails and scroll through TikTok. This is definitely my new favorite caffeine fix. Ok I m an addict lol, but I love coffee and this is the spot!

From the moment the door opens you are immediately welcomed with a hip New York modern coffee shop experience. The ambiance is spacious and comfortable. The coffee is always amazing- great location to meet up with friends before starting the day, brunching or ending the night. Alan and Alex are very involved in keeping the experience in sync with their Highland Park location. Right across the street from Sonora Town tacos too!

I find that, as companies grow, something usually diminishes, whether it be the customer service, product quality, or personality/character of the business. This is NOT the case for Civil Coffee. I dont live close to either the Highland Park shop or the new DTLA shop, but will travel for good drinks and food. I must give this disclaimer: I do not drink coffee! The Liquid Gold (matcha with a splash of lavender) is just as good here as in HP, with the distinct and smooth matcha flavor that the lavender perfectly enhances. As for the food, one really cant wrong with any of the items, but my faves are the burritos, both of which travel well and if I chose to lounge a while and enjoy the Wifi in the beautiful sleekly designed shop, Im sure the burritos would lounge well too. :). Oh, and the service at this location is just as friendly and knowledgeable as that at the HP location. The delicious eats/drinks, Tribe in the background and excellent service really promote that its a good day to be Civil. :). <3. Great job, Morales brothers!!! OMG, I almost forgot! The pastries are perfection, especially the chocolate chip cookies with salt! Yummmmm!

Been a fan of their OG place in HP but so glad they opened a location in DTLA. When I stepped in the new location I thought to myself this is what a coffee shop should look like. The Figueroa is my go to drink, cant go wrong with it.

I just found this shop last week and took home coffee beans from Oaxaca. They were able to grind it for my pour over at home. The flavor was smooth, fruity and delicate. I can t wait to get more beans soon! I also loved the vibe of the shop and tunes were on point.

I m a huge matcha person and I love liquid gold! I m usually picky about my matcha but this is really good! So happy they re in downtown now, I m by this area a lot and excited to have a new matcha place I can go to (:

I would give this place 6 stars if it were possible. The coffee and the pastries are delicious, and the staff is super friendly. Their Figueroa coffee is MUST-have!

Delicious coffee and yummy snacks. Inviting energy and a bright open space. So glad to have a central spot to invite friends, where I can depend on the experience being wonderful!

Such a beautiful space with high ceilings and a tall u-shaped countertop to enjoy your coffee and pastries at! My personal favorite is an iced latte with almond milk or the classic figueroa. Staff is very friendly and great tunes are played.

Incredible coffee, I had the cold brew and it was the best Ive ever had. Also the aesthetic of this place is perfect.
