AVOID THIS OVERHYPED SPOT! Wasted 45 minutes waiting at this LA institution only to get completely dismissed by a hostess who looked like she wandered straight from Comic-Con in a faded Sonic the Hedgehog shirt. She couldnt be bothered to look THREE FEET in front of her when calling names, then gave us an eye roll and shrug when we tried to get her attention - we walked out. No way Im giving my money to a place that treats customers like an inconvenience before they even sit down. Pro tip: Those Sysco trucks pulling up during off-hours? Just confirms what youre getting - standard diner fare at inflated prices. Nothing wrong with that if the service was decent, but dont buy into the hype about this being something special. Dont let the tourist-packed line fool you - a wait doesnt mean its worth it. The fact that this place can get away with such GARBAGE service while charging premium prices for basic diner food is everything wrong with LAs overhyped food scene. Save your time. There are dozens of breakfast spots nearby where they actually acknowledge your existence. HARD PASS on this tourist trap! EDIT: Owner s response just proves my point. Instead of addressing the real issues, they deny what I saw with my own eyes and offer a half-hearted apology. This is exactly why this tourist trap isn t worth anyone s time or money. Keeping my 1-star. HARD PASS.

Nicks is quite a Los Angeles fixture with a long history of nearly 75 years and is a favorite for many Angelinos. Predominately a brunch spot with an extensive breakfast menu, breakfast items are the go-to for many patrons. Many items also have the Angelino flair, reflecting some border flair. This greasy spoon also has burgers, sandwiches, and other diner-standard items. There is something for everyone. Many breakfast items are quick to serve. The cafe is opened early, and the weekends can be crowded after 9am. The quality is diner standard. There isnt anything spectacular and the pricing is no longer a cheap eat. Also, they have an associate restaurant in Eagle Rock called the RockN Egg Cafe which took over the former neighborhood favorite, AuntieEm.

Amazing diner experience. You can sense how old the place is (1948) but doesn t feel unkempt. There is a wrap around table with low chairs (not too low) and an outdoor sitting area. I had the golden ham dish and was incredible. The location is close to Dodgers stadium so was a nice place to stop when in that area.

Ive been dreaming of returning since my first visit. Today was the day! 6:45am on a Saturday. No wait and quick service. Theres a reason the police, firefighters and city workers come here, the food is good and the service is great! We ordered the barbacoa breakfast and the Mini Pan San w chocolate chips, with eggs & sausage. Let me tell you! That was the best sausage I have ever had! The barbacoa was juicy and packed with flavor! Im not a barbacoa fan, but that was soo tasty! Of course, I do have to say we drove all the way from Chino just to eat here again, and wed do it again! Remember, get there early for no wait. By 8 am, they were starting to get busy, by 9, Im sure youd be waiting!

I wanted to find a place to have breakfast, I searched on Google and this place appeared as the first option, I decided to go to the place, and the guy who served me was not very polite well it was my first time here so I was guided by the photos that other people published Upon finding what seemed delicious to me, I decided to order that, but not without first asking the waiter a question, however, he was not very friendly because his answers were very rude, so I ordered my breakfast and when he brought the food to the table, he threw me my receipt. from the bill to the table at the same time ..so literally he threw the receipt at me .I didnt give it much importance and I started eating next to me two female police officers arrived and I observed the treatment they were given and The two waiters were melting to attend to the officials and thats fine... I applaud it, however I noticed the difference... and I thought the next time I visit this place I will put on a kilo of makeup, a miniskirt and a huge cleavage. This is how I am treated with respect and kindness . (No lie... I will not return to this place) ... but at least I had breakfast that day....however I gave my opinion and someone responded saying that everything I wrote about my experience WAS NOT TRUE.... .Im probably a liar thats how they made me feel...maybe one less client wont affect their community and their economy but Im sure I wont leave my money in this place again...thank you in advance... .blessings from a LYING CUSTOMER...

Kept my coffee filled as I waited, and topped-off 2 more times during meal. Folks behind the counter straight busy keeping a steady flow of customers. (#everyday Im hustling by rickross). I recently had the pleasure of trying their Meat Lovers Omelette Skillet, and it was nothing short of fantastic. The skillet presentation keeps everything warm and inviting, making each bite a comforting experience. The balance of flavors is spot-on, and the portion size is more than satisfying. The ambiance at Nick s Café is warm and welcoming, making it a great place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or brunch with friends and family. Unfortunately, we didn t have a good experience. Was excited because it is an older establishment with some history which I love. However, just because you re an older, established restaurant doesn t mean you should allow so much deferred maintenance. I ordered fries, they had run out, so I ordered a side salad, they were out of that also so I ordered fruit which turned out to be basically just melon which I don t like. My BLT was fine but nothing amazing. I used the restroom and it was the dirtiest restroom ever; the lid to the tank was missing, the sink appeared to be leaking so the floor was wet and dirty, I almost fell off the seat because it was so loose; just gross. It made me question the cleanliness of the kitchen if this is what the bathroom looks like. Old doesn t have to be dirty. While we were eating they started to prep for closing by loudly dragging tables past us, carrying chairs on their shoulders over our table and I almost got hit in the head with a broom handle while they emptied the dustpan in the trash that was next to my chair. We did arrive 30 minutes before closing but, in my opinion, that kind of cleaning should wait until your last customer leaves. I felt rushed, annoyed and dissatisfied.

Breakfast was so good, it was all I thought about all day! This place was recommended by a Los Angeles City Supervisor to my husband. Seeing where it was and the exterior, I honestly wasnt expecting much. But based on the reviews, we went ahead and gave it a go. They have indoor seating at a bar or you can sit out side under canopies. We chose to sit indoors. I ordered the Chocloate Chip pancakes based upon a review photo I saw. The server asked if I would like it as a combo with eggs and bacon, and I replied yes and she suggested I order the Mini Pan San for light eaters because the pancakes are huge, so I agreed. My husband ordered the California Scramble. Coffee was hot, nothing special. Service was excellent. Loved her personality, warmth, spunk and attentiveness. I cant remember her name, but she said shes been there 15 years. Food arrived rather quickly, so glad I ordered the smaller plate because it was still huge 3 10 pancakes with chocolate chips and chocolate sauce. Looked incredible! The bacon was the tastiest and crispness I have ever had! Eggs were perfectly scrambled. The pancakes tasted amazingly! I thought about them all day! My husbands meal was huge and loaded with veggies and ham. Looked tasty! I am ready to go back, but we dont live close by.

I recently visited Nicks Cafe in Los Angeles and tried their Machaca Skillet. The dish came with shredded beef, scrambled eggs, jalapeños, onions, cilantro, tomatoes, cheddar, and cotija cheese, all served over potatoes. I decided to substitute the tortillas for a pancake, which turned out to be a great choice. The Machaca Skillet was incredibly tasty; the ingredients blended perfectly, creating a delightful mix of flavors. The pancake was amazing, fluffy, and a wonderful complement to the skillet. The ambiance at Nicks Cafe is exactly what you would expect from a classic diner. You definitely feel the vintage charm that comes with the dining experience. The paintings and decor enhance the nostalgic breakfast diner atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for a cozy meal.

Great food, great ambiance, great service. Only one small error where the server got one extra OJ by accident but they were easily able to rectify the issue. I ordered the early bird California Scramble plate with coffee which was absolutely delectable. The prices were also extremely reasonable given the large portions on offer. I eat a lot but expect many others may need to take leftovers home to enjoy Nicks food all over again from the comfort of your home. The staff does recommend that you pay as one bill if youre in a group, which may have been the one point of friction but trivial in the overall scheme of things... And they did offer to split the check but they were really apprehensive about doing that. You may have to wait a little (esp on weekends) since it is a small space but it is worth the wait. Ive also eaten the chilaquiles here before and take my word on this, one of the best plates of food you can ever eat. And if youre vegetarian like one of my compadres, they let you swap out your meat protein for Avocado. Not sure about Vegan options though (especially considering the wonderful cheesy menu). Vegetarian options: Substitute meat and proteins with avocado Parking: The parking situation kinda sucks, best exemplified by how the many LAPD officers who frequent this establishment illegally park in tow-away zones Kid-friendliness: There were plenty of children here and the staff seemed well equipped to serve them.

Service is fair the food comes out in reasonable time. The servings are a bit weak. One slice of bread cut in half, hash-brown serving is thin, Omelette has no flavor but thick. It could have been better if weather was good and flavor was added to the food even salsa would have helped. Was told new owners and it s not the same. I would agree as a return trip is not planned. Its a great little diner with the old school diner feel. The food is excellent, but unfortunately your spending about $25 dollars for a burger or $20 dollars for a ham sandwich. Its very expensive for the food.

I did not expect the prices to be what they were (I expected them to be a bit lower) but the Food & Service was great. On weekends, expect some delays to be seated... Plenty of free street parking, all walking distance. Contemplated the Chilaquiles until I saw the plates around me. They looked like tortilla chips with salsa poured over them... If you like them crunchy, that might be for you.

I went here on January 4th, 2024 and its such a good place to be for brunch. I didnt expect their French Toast to be this big of a size for a small stomach like mine. However, the food tastes great and I like the avocado on the side. Theres a good view inside and really enjoyed it.

4.7 The French toast was fantastic, filling, and is going on our list as a family fave. We questioned it at first because it looked like slices of French bread, which we weren t used to, but it was absolutely delicious. The strips of bacon on the side were so huge and perfectly crisply that they ve raised our bar for bacon too. While we didn t dine-in, it had an old school, no frills diner vibe, was packed, and the food on the tables looked delicious. Line outside was very long on a Sunday morning so we opted for take out. Ordering through their website was easy to find and had no extra charges. Our only hesitation was the $2 fee for butter and syrup. We didn t pay it but it still came with it. Where to pick up the food and where to stand without blocking the entrance was confusing. I waited 5 minutes while the person in front of me ordered before I was helped but they gave me a coffee for the wait so I didn t mind. The reason I can t give 5 stars is because of the styrofoam used for my takeout boxes and cup. I ll have to dine in or bring my own container next time.

If you are looking for an old fashion dinner that serves breakfast and lunch, look no further. Nicks Cafe got the giant menu, c-shaped counter seating inside, and lots of breakfast favorites. I went there w my friend after spending a couple hours at a craft fair at the historic park across the street. Its a great place for family too. Highly recommend! Kid-friendliness: Table seating is available outside. If your child is old enough to sit at the counter, that works too and the staff are all welcoming.

Nick s Cafe near Chinatown and Union Station left an indelible impression, especially with their French toast. From the moment the plate arrived, the aroma of warm, cinnamon-infused goodness enveloped the table. The French toast itself was a culinary masterpiece golden-brown perfection on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside. The attention to detail was evident; each slice had just the right balance of sweetness, and the hint of vanilla elevated the overall flavor profile. Topped with a dusting of powdered sugar and a generous dollop of whipped butter, it was a visual and gastronomic delight. What stood out beyond the delectable French toast was the warm and attentive service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience, making the atmosphere even more enjoyable. While I indulged in the French toast, glancing around, it was evident that Nick s Cafe takes pride in their diverse menu. The prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food, making it a great value for a satisfying breakfast. In the heart of Los Angeles, Nick s Cafe is not just a diner; it s a culinary haven for breakfast enthusiasts. If you find yourself craving an exceptional French toast experience, this spot near Chinatown and Union Station is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.
