Hip, family-owned haunt for coffee drinks, teas & wine with locally sourced American eats all day.
Kind of felt like San Francisco, been there for years, has huge warehouse space with heavy wood beams and iron everywhere. Food is good, variety of ages coming and going and from the mezzanine you might see professional dancers practicing their art.
Oddly enough the cafe doesnβt allow laptops, maybe they donβt want people camping for hours ordering 1 coffee. π€·π»

Wow! What a true gem. I came for a Jazzo class in the back (free, btw) and after a couple hours of slow movement, I got to spend the peaceful mind time I had cultivated in this wonderfully barn-like cafe in the middle of LA. What a nice reprieve. It felt like I was in silver lake. A rare combination of insanely good and authentic cappuccinos and nourishing, well designed salads that compliment the vibe of Williamsburg NY. My new favorite cafe in LA. Add that it's focused on conversation in most spots, with a perch for remote work and the owner Yasha dotes on friends and customers it's just everything you want to feel at home and welcomed and filled with trust in a small cafe in a big city.

Very popular Cafe with a vast menu and fresh pastries etc. It has a good vibe and loved the seating out front. Unfortunately my almond milk hot chocolate was barely luke warm but is was still delicious. The ham and cheese croissant was tasty and fresh. I would definitely go back again. It seems to be a bit of a local meeting place.

The coffee is on my go-to list since it's close to where I live.
I like the vibes and decorations, and you see more people who are in entertainment, producer, and writers at the coffee shop.
However, customer service was terrible, 4/10. The staff (video) who brought the food out was insulting and gave clients a look, and slammed the dish on the table. I asked where I could get the sauce, and she did not even want to turn around; she did not answer and pointed at the other area with a nasty attitude. LOL, this is the first time I encountered this lousy service at the coffee shop in L.A.
I came here in a great mood as a first-timer and was shocked to be treated that way. I thought she only did that to me, but she snapped at other clients too. Management, you need to train your staff in customer service, please. People would appreciate the friendly and kind attitude in this busy city.
Do not show up if you can't bring your best selves to work. It's a coffee shop where people come to enjoy their work and dayβlousy impression.
If the foods and coffee are excellent, I can consider returning to make it up for the services. But, unfortunately, it did not deliver the standards for both.

It was our first time at Paper or Plastik Cafe and it was a lovely find!! It sits on a relatively quiet corner with ample indoor & outdoor seating. Place your order inside at the counter and find yourself a table, the friendly staff will bring your food out to you. We had a mimosa bucket, French toast, croissant sandwich and salad. Everything was fresh and tasty! You canβt beat a $20 mimosa bucket!! Inside has a lovely cafe vibe with an upstairs area with additional seating. Iβll definitely be back for a coffee while I work!

The establishment provides a pleasant ambiance for breakfast and coffee consumption. The quality of the food was satisfactory. However, I encountered an issue with the cashier's demeanor, which lacked friendliness. A simple smile would have enhanced the overall experience.

Hands down, some of the best brunch food Iβve had recently! They use the freshest ingredients and make sure each dish is done the right way. The menu offers a wide variety of options, and everything we tried was delicious. The shakshuka and Avocado toast was especially memorable. Must try!
I canβt say enough good things about the service at Paper or Plastik. The staff is incredibly accommodating for minor changes and goes the extra mile to ensure guests are happy. Iβve been to many similar cafes in LA, but this one truly stands out. The attention to detail and commitment to guest service set it apart from the rest!
I want to thank Max for going above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was perfect. His genuine hospitality and impeccable service made all the difference.

I love the atmosphere of this space! The elevated ceiling, the wooden, but mixed with a little bit industrial vibe and the bright open space with indoor and outdoor seatings. I am pretty picky about coffee. The latte here is somewhat not very consistent ~ when it is good, it is pretty good and sometimes it is OK. However, I keep coming back because I just love being in the shop! There s plenty of street parking nearby.

Live down the street and was excited for this to potentially become a neighborhood staple. The vibes are definitely cute inside and I guess if I literally wanted just a coffee to work during the weekday, it d *maybe* be cute for that. But the staff absolutely terrible. When we walked in to order, the vibes were immediately off and awkward. Not welcoming at all. Everyone that works there seems miserable; grumbling, mumbling, cutting us off while ordering, placing our coffee on our table while pointedly not making eye contact or saying anything like an emo moody teenager. The food was also less than mid the eggs tasted like cardboard, the potatoes needed ketchup, the biscuits were crumbly, everything was dry. All really sucks cause the spot is cute. Again if you re trying to keep your head down yourself, get some work done, not order any food maybe you ll enjoy it. But the staff may honestly be such bad vibes you still might not.

I don t know what happened but this place has definitely stepped up their game in the last 6mos or so. The service is quicker, the pastries are definitely fresher, and the sandwich I had today was way better than any food item Ive ever ordered there before. Out of all the little cafes in the neighborhood, they also have the best/most spacious set up for both indoor and outdoor dining. I wish they had later hours but I ll take what I can get.

Baristas that act so aloof youd wonder if they are weighted down by bricks so they dont float away. Food thats so good it makes up for the above! Nestled in the heart of mid-city, Paper or Plastik Cafe marries the essence of an artful dance studio with the rustic charm of a modern industrial space, crafting an ambiance thats both inviting and eclectic. Their breakfast burrito, a culinary delight that captures the vibrant spirit of Californias seasonal produce, is a standout a testament to the cafes commitment to freshness and flavor. Accompanying this is their oat milk latte, a silky smooth concoction that showcases their mastery in the art of third-wave coffee. Each sip is a homage to the meticulous journey from bean to cup, making it more than just a beverage but an experience. Paper or Plastik Cafe transcends the typical cafe narrative, offering a space where food and culture intertwine, leaving an indelible mark on the palate. Come often enough and you will see celebs.

Was recommended this place by a friend for the ambiance. Dont come here on the weekends if your goal is to focus on anything--the dance studio nextdoor blasts music so loud that I was forced to listen to them even through my noise-canceling headphones. Completely took me out of the vibe and any work I wanted to get done. The floor was literally shaking from the volume, and it was even worse because the music continuously changed back-to-back from classical to heavy EDM, so it was incredibly distracting. Good coffee and food, though.

Used to love coming here as part of a visit to LACMA. But the food isnt what it used to be, and the service is now awful. New management? Very long wait for a simple breakfast order, so my coffee got cold, but they insisted on charging me for a second cup. They just claimed that they were very busy, even though it was a Monday at 1p and fully onethird of the tables were empty.

Stopped in here on my way to work to grab something to eat. Ordered a yogurt bowl because, at $15, it was one of the less expensive things on the morning menu, and I figured itd be the quickest option to go, but I ended up waiting over 20 minutes. I asked staff if they could check on it; they would pop into the kitchen then avoid coming back to me with any kind of update. When I finally got to work and opened the bowl, it featured a genuinely comical portion of yogurt. Maybe half a cup? Silly place. I dont recommend it.

Used to frequent years ago and remember the food was good but service left much to be desired. Visited recently and the food was not good and overpriced. Service was still poor. The breakfast plate I got was bland: overcooked scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes with no seasoning/herbs, a whatever tasting jam for a plain, underwhelming biscuit, and two fatty slices of bacon. All that for $16. Yeah, staff acts uppity and/or just plain rude. The ambience/seating is great though. Wont be coming back.

Might be my new favorite coffee shop. So cozy yet eclectic. Their lemon crumb is a sweet treat that Ive been searching for and havent been able to find until now. London Fogs can be hard to get right, but theirs was perfect with the addition of vanilla bean paste. I came here to work (theres free wifi available) but I might need to come back with a friend just to enjoy the ambiance. Dietary restrictions: Non-dairy options for creamer are available! Parking: Parking was not an issue theres metered parking along the side streets (though I did go midday, so this could change during busier hours).

Stopped in for breakfast this morning for my first time and had a great experience. Parking is easy so we were able to find a place right out front. They have seating available inside as well as many tables out front. The staff we encountered was very polite and helpful as well. To start the pastries were fantastic. We tried the sugary croissant and the cheese Danish and both were a real highlight to the meal. The Orange Juice was fresh and perfect and the Latte was very good as well. For our meal we chose the Huevos Rancheros and the Avocado Toast. I wish the portion size of the Huevos Rancheros were larger but the taste really was very good. I plan to be back in the future to try other dishes and would recommend to anyone looking for a solid breakfast option.

I love absolutely everything about this place but the owners are the worst, theyre constantly yelling at people for various things. Its the perfect place to sit and work all day but theyre very picky about where you set up with your laptop. Apparently it looks bad for business to have a coffee shop/cafe thats full of people working but its not bad for business to tell your customers they arent welcome. Make it make sense! (This actually happened).

I think that above all, customer service is the most important thing that should be in the place. The lady who attended us to take our order had a face like she didnt want to work, she was lazy, she just doesnt like her job. 1 hour and 10 minutes later I went back to ask for breakfast and they told me that they had forgotten. The drinks are delivered to me 15 minutes after I went to claim my food and breakfast 20 minutes after taking the drinks. Im really unhappy with the service because I didnt even receive an apology for what happened.

For years, I always passed by this place and I finally thought I should check it out. My friend and I went, and the interior is beautiful, I wish I could ve sat down to take it all in. We both got matcha with oat milk, but were charged $28 for the grand total. I didn t see the amount until I was writing my signature on the screen and that was when my friend and I both brought the price to the cashiers attention. She seemed new, and said that maybe the price of the drinks had changed or something, but the price on the menu clearly said it was $6.25 plus $1 for alternative milks; I definitely don t think tax should be that high. It took 4 people over 15 minutes to finally give me my money back (not even all of it, they gave me back $13ish so the correct amount would ve been paid). The cashier and this guy who I thought was the manager were trying to tell us that it s $28 because of taxes but we just kept saying that that makes absolutely no sense, no single latte is worth $14. On top of the gaslighting, no one in the establishment seemed to know how to give returns on the tablet because it s a food place but I ve worked in food and know there should be a function for that. The manager seemed to have JUST stepped out. I kept suggesting a cash return, and no one listened, but then finally these two nice guys who immediately understood that the cafe was in the wrong pulled out a cash box and gave me my $14 back, but at that point with good customer service you d assume you d get all of your money back, but I didn t want to push more, we just wanted to get out of there at that point. The latte wasn t worth all of that trouble anyways and was ok, the two stars are for the beauty of the inside, and the two nice guys that validated that we were in the right. Thanks, y all.

I m sorry to say what a disappointment this restaurant has become. Always pricey for what it offered - this last visit showed an all time low. The impossible burger that I ordered plain and on different bread arrived on 1 slice of bread - cut in half and the burger was half the size as it used to be - still full price. They could have used the 2nd slice of bread to complete the sandwich to offer with the soup I ordered which arrived 20 minutes after ordering - bread needed to be ordered separately at an additional price. what? With soup? All the food came at once and the pastry was forgotten. I had to walk inside to ask. It was quoted w/o nuts (which I am allergic) - it contained nuts. Which I discovered (of course) after eating a few bites.. But the biggest gripe is the lack of good service when paying upfront- when no tip is selected. The attitude really changes. $49.00 for lunch and not even a really filling lunch is pretty steep. Should I have ordered less to get better service? Low marks all around .. Dietary restrictions: Just check the review

Cafes have a culture, and this one is not terribly inviting. You can see it immediately in the mostly miserable staff (of course, theres an exception or two), but then it all makes sense when you watch their senior management. They too just dont seem to like people. I get a couple of drinks each time I go there in an attempt to offset the contempt for laptops, I tip, and I keep my stay relatively short and confined to their laptop only areas. But this has not altered the apparent disdain for my existence. Then I noticed . . . it wasnt just me; they treated everyone this way. So, I dont come much. They dont need my $12. Aside from this, great space and in a location that can use this type of place. Often not full, at least during the week, because, well, read the above. Why do people open such a place to be so miserable about it?

Lots of friends recommended this place. Each time I ve gone, the staff has seemed pretty unhappy with their work environment (at least, that s the way I interpret their un-friendliness) - and it s not in that Brooklyn get in, get out kind of way. Coffee is good. I got breakfast here recently and was pretty shocked at how plain and unflavorful the plate was for about $16. The biscuits were off - like when you use baking soda instead of baking powder - and we kindly asked if we could swap the biscuit for another pastry item they just sent us out another round of off biscuits, and with a lot of disdain. It s such a cute spot and I understand having a bad day and not wanting to deal with customers, but I ve gone in several times and always had the same experience. Go to Bloom, Power plant, or green table - friendliest environment ever and delicious açaà bowls.

I would not recommend this place. During my time there, I was spoken to in a nasty tone by the cashier. All because I asked if an item could be made vegan. She used the fact that she couldn t understand me as an excuse to be rude and patronising. She laughed at me before abruptly saying we don t do substitutions . I had the same experience when the barista borderline shouted at me when my drink was ready. When I asked for a straw, she said they don t do that, before quickly turning her back on me. The food was just as cold as the people working there. When I emailed the owner about my experience and asked for a refund, they apologised then immediately made excuses for their behaviour. Their exact words were: We are always trying to provide the best experience but sometimes mistakes and misunderstandings happen. I personally feel that during the Covid time we all lost some of our social skills They asked for my full credit card number via email (who does that?). Of course I never heard from them again when I said I wasn t comfortable with that, despite offering a safer way to pay me back. The owner s lack of empathy and attention to detail clearly trickles down to the staff. They felt emboldened to take out the disdains for their job on me, because they know there won t be consequences. When the owner can t even keep their word, it s no surprise that their team lacks integrity. Even my friend couldn t help but point out the poor treatment. I should ve walked out the moment it started. I m embarrassed to have gone there with company, and will not be coming back.

Delicious food and ambiance. Good for easy meals and good conversation. Service was a little odd as my friend ordered a drink and I guess her name was called out but we didnt hear it and didnt know it wouldnt be brought to the table, but other than that it was great!

All the food is amazing! The fries have changed though and its not to my liking anymore. Everything else is worth the price and its really great.

Rude staff, slow food, food was cold. Staff couldn t be bothered nor concerned about quality.

Lovely cafe with delicious bites. It draws an artistic crowd, as the owners, artists themselves, have a dance studio at the back of the cafe, and have put intention into decorating the place with their creative and amusing touch. I used to really enjoy the Wednesday classical music concerts. Hope they resume the events soon.

Clean environment outside if restrictions are apply . Service at the counter was good. Coffee the best delicious taste.( DIDNT HAVE MOCHA.) Like places feels like LOUNGE THURSDAY & RELAX. PAPER OR PLASTIC. gives a notch .

Unfortunately this place has really went down in food and coffee quality. We went a few times recently and it was bad both times. I cannot recommend any longer, hopefully it gets better.

These people really go out of their way to be rude and unprofessional. That sort of attitude comes from the top down, as evidenced by the defensive rant I got from the owner when I emailed about a quality issue, soft scrambled eggs that were more like an overcooked omelette. Against my better judgment I went back the other day and got a latte and a pastry. The babka I got was dry and hard, when I asked to exchange it for something else the barista turned to me and in a snarky tone tells me babka is supposed to be hard. Ok, whatever you say dude, except that I ve eaten babka before and I know what it s supposed to be like. I don t get why anyone would go here, the food is below average and the vibe is weird and off putting, lots of negative energy behind the counter. I guess there aren t a lot of other options in the neighborhood but I d rather drive a mile or two out of my way to get delicious food and friendly service than settle for this place.

This is during covid 19 so this review will be for only this period. Place is sorta pricey for what you get. I had a tuna sandwich and it was above average. The salad on the side was fresh but the dressing sucked. Order took a long time as well.

An iced Lavender Chai is as good as it gets on a hot AF LA afternoon.

Its cute inside, so the coffee must be good, right? That said, the matcha latte is easily one of the worst Ive ever had Thought I was drinking straight chalk. Wishing I had just gone to my regular place, instead. $6.30 for a large ChapStick placed as a reference.

Love this place, have been going for years! Rose latte is exquisite. They have a great social distancing set up, the hours on google say till 8 but they do close at 3:00 for covid times

This cafe has delicious food and several different seating areas; upstairs, downstairs, and two separate areas outside. They also have some tables reserved for laptop use, and some tables reserved for socializing sans laptops or tablets. I believe on weekends they encourage everyone to avoid using devices and socialize instead. Everything Ive tried at Paper or Plastik has been good, but my favorite items are the maple latte, french fries, and mimosa bucket. They sell some small specialty items inside as well; and there is a dance studio through the back door to the cafe. Cool offbeat decor as well. Really unique place designed to give you a great experience!

My absolute favorite cafe in the city. This is my spot when I need to get work done or if a friend wants to grab a coffee or bite. Ive made my way through most of the drink menu & then some! My personal favorites have been the lavender chai, the rose latte, their cappuccinos, and the recommended maple latte. I so so so appreciate the fact that they mostly seem to try to be aware of their single plastic use by using glasses and mugs for in store orders and glass cups for water. Hoping to see them continue this effort! Food Ive gotten there, while a little pricey, has always been delicious. The vibe of the place is always great with friendly service, creative individuals, and friends meeting up. Theres even a studio attached to the back which hosts free events! Definitely would recommend--you know Im there usually once a week!

Been to any other hipster coffee spot in LA then youve experienced this one. Pretty great music plays softly in the background. Coffee & Baked good costs the same as a meal so youve gotta decide which your heart wants more (got the BLTA sandwich. Twas okay. Nothing to commit to memory). No natural light so youve gotta decide btwn dim library indoor seating or getting baked by the sun outside.

This place has a great atmosphere and decor - but more importantly TASTY food, and beverages. The breakfast burritos are amazing! Everything ive tried has been delicious.

Consistently poor service. This spot is close to my house and I really wanted to like it- cool interior and menu but they really don t deliver a good consistent product and are very expensive. That along with terrifyingly stereotypical hipster snobbery made me want to look around for hidden cameras to make sure it was not hoax. To many awesome cafes around to waste money hear.

I have been to this place frequently for years. Today, I had a strange experience over iced tea. Rather than fill an 8 ounce cup of tea, they claim they cannot do it for some reason. The iced tea is very good, but what I did was, I went two blocks away and got a better tasting iced tea at Paradocs where the manager Taka is so very nice. The service here is not great and Paradocs is consistently so nice.
