Classic American bistro comfort food done really well.

Having wanted to eat here for a some time, I oddly ended up eating at Nick’s twice in two weeks. On both occasions the service and food were top notch. The space has the vibe of old Pasadena money, just modernized. The numerous members of the staff that touch your table were all friendly yet unobtrusive. The cocktails delicious (tip, add some vodka to the berry mock-tail) and the food, though not the most exciting menu, deftly executed.

Oh, and that Warm Butter Cake… possibly the most scrumptious restaurant dessert I’ve ever had (twice).

Cheeseburger was good. Fries are good size but portion size leaves a bit to be desired. Meatloaf dish was decent. Wife ordered the center cut filet which was to come with loaded baked potato 🥔 which my wife was really looking forward to. Wasn't informed that the potato is only served after 4 p. m. Ambiance is very nice unless your seated in the very rear of the restaurant.

Atmosphere and service were top notch.

In my humble opinion, the fried chicken needed some seasoning, maybe a little S&P. The chicken breast was bland, but the buttermilk coating was on point, crunchy. The best part of the meal was the spinach dip and the warm butter cake.

We had a really nice dinner at Nick’s. We were greeted by happy friendly staff at the entrance and the service throughout dinner was excellent.
We ordered a salad and the asparagus fries as appetizers. I highly recommend trying the asparagus!
We had the blackened fish sandwich and the ribeye melt, they were both pretty good but the star of the show was the bistro plate filet mignon.
For dessert we got the warm butter cake and the ice cream. Both really good but extremely sweet. So if you like your glucose levels to spike like there’s no tomorrow go for it.

Overall, we had a nice meal in a nice setting. The food was very good and the price is decent. I would definitely go back to Nick’s and recommend you try it.

We got a recommendation from friends so we made a reservation and had dinner at Nick’s in Pasadena. It was awesome! The place is not too big, with a bar and tables next to it and a second floor, the looks down at the bar, which where we were seated. I’d recommend sitting upstairs, it’s relaxed and comfortable. The service was excellent. Between the host, the waiter, the bus boys and the manager, all were friendly and very accommodating. The food was absolutely amazing. Nice portions, very beautifully served with very nice flavors. All in all very highly recommended

An amazing overall dining experience. The food is great and the service is wonderful. The atmosphere is quite dim which makes for an intimate environment. The food is well presented and tastes amazing with lots of high quality ingredients. Nothing to complain about, a must try place!

It's hard to hit a home run in my ideal restaurant but this fine and lively restaurant in Pasadena surly does just that. This place was so busy we ate at the bar along with 12 other patrons. Everyone was well and given the same amount of attention. It was great just watching the constant flow of activities . Our apps of deviled eggs delightful and my prime rob french dip the best I've had in quite some time. Whatever you do please get that fantastic butter cake.

The entrance of the restaurant is beautiful with the wide open space and different set up than the back half of the restaurant which is more intimate in its setting and allows you to watch the chefs prepare the meals in the kitchen. The food was slightly disappointing. The fried asparagus was just breadcrumbs fried on asparagus and tasted really lackluster. Even the aioli couldn’t save it. The pizza was very heavy on the onion, unnecessarily so. The salad with ribeye was the best thing ordered. Also the espresso were phenomenal as they came with a little candy stirrer. A decent place for a night out, food selection could be better. Make sure to get the Key lime pie as it is fantastic and limited at the moment! Staff was wonderful.

Everything was just okay. We were seated with our first server, Cory, he was honestly very rude with answering each of our questions and not accommodating in the slightest. Eventually, he was replaced by another server, Justin, who was very kind and very accommodating, which is one of the few reasons why this review is 3 stars instead of 1. Food was described around the table as okay . Center cut filet was cooked correctly, but there was nothing special about it and it honestly tasted quite bland. Another one of our guests ordered the Bistro Plate with the petite filet, which was ordered medium, and was delivered medium well, but so dry we had to ask for extra butter on the side. I will say Justin was willing to get this fixed and replaced but our guest just didn t want to deal with the hassle of waiting for it again and inconveniencing him. Again, everything was okay, not terribly bad, but most likely won t come back.

We were in a hurry (party of 2) but it was only 5pm on a Sunday so we thought no problem to eat in one hour! The hostess told us it would be 35 min wait, didnt offer any option like hightop or bar til we asked and got bar seats. Where 3 bartenders aggressively ignored us for 7 minutes as they dried glasses, talked to each other and waited on zero customers. So we left. The hostess thanked us for coming, oblivious to our now foul mood. Two stars is charity.

I ordered the kale salad with salmon. The salad was fresh and the salmon was tender baked to perfection. The Alaskan halibut which is not on the menu was tender, flavorful and also an excellent choice. The rose drink was probably the best drink I have had here in Pasadena. The place is impeccable and so is the restroom. The waitresses and waiters are attentive and helpful. This is officially my new place to eat. By the way the prices are not too bad in the $50 range for my salad, salmon and rose drink. So worth coming here no regrets and filling.

We had high expectations for this place. Unfortunately it didnt go well. There was no waiting time. The waiter was amazing and had great knowledge of the Menu. Food come out and it was good. Unfortunately we saw a Cockroach walking on the wall. We called a busboy who reach across the table and killed. We called a manager over. He said was going to contact pest control. (We had just received our meal. He has 95% of the food.) He removed our plates and basically kicked us out. He didnt offer to move us from table or to come again.

First Timer I had the PAN SEARED CHILEAN SEA BASS served with lemon beurre blanc, spicy broccoli , whipped potatoes. And for cocktails JALAPEÑO WATERMELON MARGARITA tanteo jalapeño tequila, giffard ginger, fresh watermelon & lime, agave . Better than I thought. The food and drinks are delicious and different from the ones youll have somewhere else. There are many such restaurants, but this place is the obvious winner , , and it all was just 5/5

Could not be happier how accomodating they were, when we were running late. Had a beautiful birthday celebration. Appetizer dip was delish and perfect for 3 to share. Fried chicken was tasty and I ordered the special, halibut encrusted with ground macadamia nuts. It was a large 7.5 oz piece and so tasty.

I first tried Nick s on 2nd in Long Beach. I just recall meatballs and butter cake I ve lived in Pasadena for over 10 years and I ve finally made it in to try Nick s Pasadena. Came here with work colleagues. We ordered a lot of salad options, a steak plate and I ordered the maple glazed meatloaf. Oh my, slap me silly that was good! I will be back here again to try the buttermilk fried chicken and order the dang butter cake I didn t see it on the menu, and the butter cake was one of the memorable things from my Long Beach experience, but now I know they serve butter cake here. Please do not miss this yall, no regrets, you ll love it. Oh and those bacon, deviled eggs sheesh. Coming back soon! We sat in the front atrium section, so beautiful and zen. Alot of greenery. The day we were here is when we were struck with that 4.8 earthquake a few weeks back. Iron and bricks decor held up, luckily. Service was also great and attentive. Be sure to call for reservations, this place gets busy!

Terrible Parking experience. I arrived at 11:30 AM and asked the receptionist if it was safe to park on the street which is in front of the door. They told me I could park 1 hour for free. The reality is that the Pasadena Dept of Transportation gave me a ticket at 11:38 AM. When I went back to the restaurant in the afternoon and talked with the manager named Manny, they denied they illustrated that.

We celebrated a birthday dinner this week. The wait staff was attentive but not pushy. They had an etch a sketch for our 9 yr old. Everything was first class down to the hot towels at meals end. Nice to know places like this still exist It is now our go to place for special occasions. Set the tone for our whole weekend.

Everything about Nicks is amazing. They have a relatively simple menu of mostly American food (but elevated). Had a hard time deciding what I want because everything looked good. The Rib Eye Melt was a hit and everyone in my party enjoyed what they ordered. Service was excellent and the atmosphere is business casual. Great for a date. Will def go back. Kid-friendliness: Kids get an Etch a Sketch to keep them occupied while waiting.

Nick s is the perfect place to gather with girlfriends, family, (in our case, sisters) or to watch a game at the bar. The staff is friendly and helpful with each other, which made us feel welcome and comfortable. I didn t even mind the uproar over the winning team getting the goal on the sports channel. It s a lovely place with great food. We had asparagus French fries , they were gone quickly between the four of us. I had the veggie burger, made fresh that day by the chef, it was soooo good. And Butter Cake for dessert, do not miss the opportunity. All told, with 8 drinks included, two sisters split the ribeye melt sandwich, our bill was 250, which our big sister picked up. (Thank you, B + P!) Nick s has great food, great atmosphere and we stayed for two and a half hours. Recommended and will return for pizza!! Vegetarian options: If there is limited vegetarian entree, it better be stellar, it was. (Homemade fresh veggie burger with lots of toppings on a delicious, squeezy, soft bun). Parking: Our waiter told us there was free parking after 7:00P. We parked in the back and cut through PetCo, since there is no entry access from the back, but exiting is allowed.

I really like this place. Been here a couple times, great service, and great ambiance. However, I came today with my parents for dinner and I ordered the usual ribeye melt. And this time the caramelized onion was too sweet. When I told our waitress about it and she said yeah you can always order it on the side. What i meant was that it was unusually sweet. It s not the first time I order this plate and it shouldn t be that sweet.

Loved our food, though the pasta with pesto could have been better salted. The servers and musician were on point We popped in on a walk in town and were pleasantly surprised We visited Nicks on Juneteenth and it was very slow, but I know that its normally quite busy; so I recommend making a reservation for good and timely seating. Definitely a must try. Parking: Nicks is very close to one of the citys public parking structures that allows free parking for 90 minutes; however, I forget whether the restaurant validates. Wheelchair accessibility: Nicks is located on the 1st floor and wheelchair accessible.

I had one of the specials today. It was a prime rib on Texas toast. The prime rib was flavorless. It tasted like it may have been frozen and lost any meat flavor. It was served with tasteless potatoes. My wife ordered the Halibut. She said it was just aight. It came with the same tasteless potatoes. For appetizers we got the tuna tatare and the devil eggs. The appetizers were better than the mains. Another problems with Nicks is their high seats. They are cheap and not ergonomic/safe for kids. They have no foot rest so your childs legs will likely go numb as their circulation gets cut off at the thighs. I notice thats is the case at the location in the Long Beach area and in Pasadena. By the way, the Long Beach location has much better food. I wont be returning to either location since due to their bad child seat.

Food so far has always been fresh and delicious. Service is excellent. I asked to be seated in a quieter spot- accommodated us right away. Checked in on us often. Only thing is it can get a little loud during peaK hours.

Beautiful restaurant with amazing food. I tried the butter cake as the reviews recommended and it was delicious. Reminds me of the crust from pie but creamy and smooth. There was a wait since we did walk in but we were able to have a drink at the bar while we waited. Parking: Parking is free on Sundays.

Nice restaurant but the service was extremely slow. We had reservations, checked in and waited for over 25 minutes. Only when we went back to inquire about our table were we taken to be seated. Everything took a very long time from the waiter greeting us and taking drink orders to getting them. It was another very long wait to take our orders. Overall, it was very slow. The food was good but I not amazing.

We walked in and the place was not that busy, we just wanted a drink. The bar was almost full, however there were two seats but not together. We asked the host if we could sit to have a drink either at the table or at the bar and she said it would be a 20-25 minute wait. The manager was also there and did nothing. Very bad first impression and terrible customer service.

This is fine dining but without all of the annoying stuff. There s plentiful parking behind the restaurant (90mins are free, just a couple dollars after), reservations are easy to get a couple days in advance, nice restaurant but not so fancy that you have to worry about what you re wearing, food is absolutely delicious and perfectly priced (you don t have to drop $200 on a tasting menu), and the service was as attentive as most fine dining restaurants. We spent about $75 per person with appetizers and drinks, and we felt it was worth the price. Their butter cake dessert is insane, I could eat it everyday.

I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday at this restaurant, and there were 10 people guest in my party! Manny, the manager and Nicks team were spectacular! They were extremely nice and accommodating; the service and food was A+, as well as the private room provided to me was the best. This was my first time at this location. I usually dine at the manhattan beach location. The bar area is bigger here, but the meatloaf must be really popular here because the last couple times I have tried to order they seem to always run out.

Visited Nicks for my birthday dinner. We were a party of 5 so they wouldnt take reservations, however our wait was less than 10 minutes. The ambiance was amazing. Lots of greenery with just the right amount of lighting. While the Menu was smaller, the options were really interesting. I chose the maple glazed meatloaf w/whipped potatoes with pearl onions and asparagus, DELISH. We also had the bacon wrapped deviled eggs for an appetizer. Some of the other dishes that were ordered were, center cut filet, a ribeye melt, and the California salad. Everyone enjoyed their food however my guest who ordered the center cut filet felt it was very small. We also had the butter cake with ice cream which was heavenly! At the end of the meal I was handed an envelope with a birthday card in it which was signed by all the staff members. So thoughtful! All in all a great experience. Prices were reasonable. Parking was ample as there is a parking lot with metered parking until 6:00 pm. Highly recommend.

First time here with my family. Celebrating my wife s birthday and we had a wonderful night. Great food GREAT SERVICE! Diana took care of us very well and was extremely personable. I highly recommend. What a wonderful night.

Cons: (LONG WAIT EVEN AFTER HAVING RESERVATIONS). I had 6:30pm reservation for my fiancé birthday and had a show to go to at 9pm. We didn t get seated til about 7pm with no place to really wait but stand at the front of the restaurant with limited space. We didn t get our food til about 8pm so we had to rush and swallow our food to make it to our 9pm show. We didn t get to try their butter cake Pros: the food was delicious. I had the salmon and my fiancé had the sea bass. We also had the truffle ( basically a pizza/flat bread). We were both impressed how tasteful the food was (just wished we had more time to savor our food a bit more). The ambiance is nice and romantic with dim lighting. We sat upstairs as requested per my reservation so that was nice. Drinks were perfect as well. I had a skinny margarita. Also, the manager came over and apologized about the delay and he definitely made it up to us, because of this gesture, it made our experience at NICKS an overall pleasant one. Overall, we will definitely be back. I am now aware that having reservations won t really matter and there s a possibility of still waiting to be seated. So expect a wait even to get your food. I think better planning on my end now that i know how it is, so we re not rushed out or anything, would make it an even better experience. Need to go back to try that seafood soup with the sourdough bread and butter cream cake

The Bistro Plate is a fantastic value; cup of soup, petite filet mignon, and small salad for under $30! Dont skip on the shrimp taquitos and asparagus fries. Only drawback is we had major indigestion from the steak. Im not sure if it was the seasoning or the amount of butter. Also our waiter (we sat at the bar) had no idea we even existed. No service or inquiry of how the meal was, so not the most friendly. Because of these things, it was a just okay experience.

Excellent food, great service, and very nice restaurant. However, it was very overpriced. $20 for a burger! For these prices, it would be good if they at least had a free bread basket, but they dont.

First time dining at Nicks. Our experience was delightful! The atmosphere was pleasant ,clean spacious and just loud enough to let you know you re dining out. Service was excellent, and of course the Food was fresh and delicious. Will definitely be returning to confirm this was not a fluke.

Food & Atmosphere is ALWAYS GOOD! I think I had a new server, he told me I couldnt have my salad first, that I substituted for spinach. Got our dessert mixed up. They did however comp our desserts! LOVE NICKS!

Excellent atmosphere, FANTASTIC FOOD. We ordered 6 different entrees and every one of them was superb. We don t have one bad thing to say. Highly recommend! The crispy chicken sandwich, ribeye sandwich and seafood soup were absolutely incredible. Highly recommend!

Food was really good. Server was the only thing that did not stand out. It was after 1pm so it wasnt that busy, yeah his service was not what you would expect from such a nice restaurant.

Nicks is a top tire restaurant in every way. This is the place you come dressed up to. I dont care if youre a Californian or not. You come here and dress up. They may not be strict about it but do yourself a favor and at least throw on a collared shirt. The food was just delicious in every way. From the bread to the salads to even the kids menu items. My girl ordered a blackened fish sandwich with the Mahi Mahi and she was actually smiling. She never smiles over food but she did at Nicks. She ordered the soup as well and it was so delicious that I ordered a bowl for myself. My sandwich was the ribeye melt and the onions were so perfectly caramelized that I swore it was jelly in the shape of onions. Even Mt Arnold Palmer drink was perfect. They made for a fantastic evening of dining. I was almost to tears that I had no room left for dessert .

Best Valentine dinner! Everything about this place is amazing. The food, the service, the ambience! This place has professional workers who deliver quality and friendly customer service. All people who work in this place were smiling ,and respectful. Our server Zach along with other servers kept checking on us to make sure we didnt need anything which made our dining experience delightful. Zach was so professional, helpful,and friendly. He was right on point with everything and knew exactly when to come by and check on us. Food was super delicious and tasty. I particularly enjoyed the Fish sandwich which was the best same I ve ever had . The butter cake was so good . Love the food and place! And, the atmosphere was casual and lively. It is highly recommended.

Came for lunch and enjoyed an excellent service! Zach was the best! We were hungry, so I cannot really judge the food, but if I had to base my decision to return just on food, I would look for alternatives.

I have been to Nicks several times. The last couple were not satisfactory. On one visit we (a party of 4) were sat at a small table upstairs. We had to put our handbags on the floor under the table because the tables were so close the bags couldn t be hung on the back of the chairs. The other time (party of 2) we sat downstairs at lunchtime and we had to switch tables three times because parties at other tables were so loud we couldn t hear each other. The acoustics at Nicks leave much to be desired.
