Drink and desserts: good
Services: great
Food: meh
CostPrice: too pricey for its quality
We arrived Friday before 5pm and didn’t have to wait for a table. We were here specifically for DineLA menu $65/pp for 3 course-meal. The atmosphere and services were good. It reminded me of steakhouse in some kind of historic house (turns out the place is Raymond Hotel owner’s caretaker’s home).
Food was extremely underwhelming and under-seasoned.
Corn soup 🥣 wasn’t creamy and it was like from an instant pack and worse 😂 Kale salad 🥗 was alright but hubby said he felt it wasn’t fresh. Maybe he was looking for veggies’ crunchiness and there was none.
Steak 🥩- they didn’t ask for temperature, so we asked. The server said it is cooked medium rare. For an old-school American restaurant to cook steak like this, it’s a hard pass for us. Steak was worse for similar steak in Urban Plates and $45/pop on their regular menu. Very chewy and rubbery. Sauce had the weird mint?
Fries were good 👍
Sea bass 🐟 - it was under-seasoned and could have been more flaky outside. Rice wasn’t complementing the dish well.
Desserts were the highlights - we liked it.

I've driven by this spot for over a decade and never thought to stop and explore. Now I know, I've been missing out on something truly special. Raymond 1886 is a hidden Pasadena legend, seamlessly combining historic charm with culinary excellence. Located in a beautifully preserved craftsman cottage with an incredible history, the ambiance is both inviting and sophisticated. Ask about the Raymond family legacy if you stop by, it's quite a story.
Make sure to reserve a patio seat during sunset, the dappled light alone is a delicacy. I hear the happy hour is wonderful, perfect time to drop by and enjoy this beautiful hidden gem.
The cocktail selection is outstanding, featuring creative drinks that are expertly crafted. They take pride in their hand crafted ice as well, which is intentionally shaped to cool the drink without diluting the ingredients. Not many other places put this much intention and thought into what they offer.
The menu offers high-quality dishes that highlight seasonal and local ingredients. I was especially impressed by the Pasta Bolognese with beef and veal ragu. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing the overall dining experience. The exceptional quality and atmosphere make it worth the visit. I can honestly say, this is the perfect spot for special occasions or a memorable night out and I wish I'd explored it sooner!

The Raymond Restaurant is a lovely reminder of the history of Pasadena. The restaurant is the former home of the Raymond family and it retains so much of the charm of a bygone era.
We visited for Easter and had a lovely time. They were offering a special menu which had a nice selection for a variety of dietary needs.
The fruit appetizer was beautiful and delicious. Their avocado toast was excellent. Side order of bacon was perfectly done. Everyone else at the table ordered Eggs Benedict and everyone cleaned their plates!
The service was excellent! When my father-in-law began asking about the history of the building our server brought over a book and a lamp so he could read it easily.
Service was attentive and not overbearing.
I have only dined here twice but I think it will be added to my short list of places to go.

•The Raymond Restaurant
•Entrées: Jidori Chicken $34
•Dessert: S’mores Chocolate Tarte $15
•Customer Service: "Helpful with personal recommendations and details of specifics on the menu."
•Aesthetic: Outdoor Patio 7:50pm. Close and personal whoever you're inviting. With the environment of a cozy fireplace, ambient lighting above you and nature green surrounds you. This is thought to be a great date night location.
•The Raymond Restaurant- Jidori Chicken $34 brings out with a moderate presentation and moderate taste. S’mores Chocolate Tarte $15 would've have been enjoyable if it wasn't cold and very difficult to cut. Presentation of the tarte is appealing but like i said Difficult. Do not make this one review mislead you to not come here. Taking everything into consideration with the aesthetic, the helpful servers and "Food". I myself have been here before, ordered another entree and dessert that was memorable to not forget. That night was not forgotten for whatever dish I had made me comeback. Alone that says something...

Brunch at Raymond 1886 was fantastic! The eggs Benedict were spot-on with creamy hollandaise, and the buttermilk pancakes were fluffy perfection. Great food in a charming setting, highly recommended!

Beautiful hidden gem! Fun cocktails and delicious food!
Published at 2 months ago
A cozy restaurant sitting partially hidden off to the side and set just below S. Fair Oaks Drive You may pass it the first time if you re not really paying attention. The setting is amazing as the restaurant itself sits in an old cottage house which is a remnant from the spectacular Royal Raymond Hotel that once occupied this site in the late 1880 s. There is very nice outdoor dining but the inside offers a warm, cozy setting among the converted rooms of the cottage. In the back is a cocktail bar that is staffed with a couple of mixologists dedicated to their craft. Food was great, cocktails were fantastic but the overall experience and great service is why I will keep coming back.

Wanted to like it based on the reviews. We had really slow service and felt ignored the entire time. We would have ordered more drinks and dessert if the waiter was attentive. The food was meh. It took forever to order drinks and to get them. When checking out we let her know the service was slow and she tried to give us a free dessert but we declined. We had been there too long and who knows how long dessert would have taken.

Definitely my favorite brunch spot in the entire LA metropolitan area. After looking for years and asking bartenders all over town where I could find the elusive cocktail Ramos Gin Fizz Somebody told me that this was the only place that had it on their menu. The drink is so difficult to find because it takes great effort to shake it as needed because of the ingredients. The fact that this restaurant offers it in their menu, speaks to their dedication to excellence And willingness To go beyond what is expected to offer something different to their customers z Not only do they make this drink perfectly, They also have a great menu with excellent customer service and a very relaxing and inviting atmosphere. Every time I walk in the moment, the bartender sees me he greets me by name starts making those cocktails, knowing I m going to ask for it.

We ordered the eggs Benedict and crab cake Benedict. They were both perfect! The pancakes and cinnamon roll were also great. But what really sells this place is the atmosphere. Great place for a first date.
Published at 4 months ago
This was such a disappointing experience. They got half of our orders wrong. The food was awful. I had crab cakes and it tasted like the crab came out of a can. Are there new owners?? They have down graded the quality of the food and need to hire new cooks in the kitchen that care what they are putting on the plate. They did take two of the meals off the check but I think we would have rather had a nice meal and paid for it.

The food didnt have any flavor, it was really bland and the portion size for the amount was ridiculous.

We dropped by The Raymond on a whim after Sunday service, barely made the 2pm brunch cutoff. Ordered a Reuben sandwich and Ceasar salad -- both were delicious; perfectly executed classics (loved their fries, too). But what a gem of a place, oozing history, with neat indoor & outdoor spaces and super-friendly staff. The bar looks incredible, too -- we shall be back for the happy hour!

The prices are starting to get out of hand here and the food quality and selection hasnt changed with the increase in price. With that said, if you are ready spend $7 for 2 slices of toast because your eggs dont come with it go for it. The Eggs benedict is still one of my favorite though.

It was raining and I had a baby in the Tesla. I didnt have a card key with me. The valet guy insisted that he had to take my phone as the car key to park even if I said I would pay for selfpark and the parking lot is just right behind him. I wasnt comfortable to have a stranger in the car during the pandemic. He told me to find parking on the street during very busy traffic hour and in the rain . He initially asked if I was there to eat or drink and I said both. After I explained that its hard to bring baby during the rain from the street, he said Ok! Let me check for you if they have seats. then came out said Sorry! They dont take walk in! It was before 6P. I had always liked the service and always did walk in this restaurant until today.

Ive been coming here for almost two decades and the service has always been on the slow side but the food is good and the people seem nice. My wife and I announced our engagement here. We later invited my parents to dinner to let them know we were expecting here. I really want to like this place but I also cannot let tonights experience go undocumented. I had one of the most frustrating experiences at a restaurant tonight. My wife and I do not mind the slower service but we had our two year old with us this time. We knew service would be slow so we made an early 4:45 reservation. As expected there were maybe 3 other tables seated when we took our seats. After placing our order I asked for the menu back so I could order a drink. After turning around constantly to make eye contact and watching this waiter wander around everywhere else for 5 minutes I finally asked a busser if I could just place an order with him but he said he would get the waiter for me. Thats fine. I then waited and watched this waiter visit several other tables including the one directly behind us then just walk away for another 5 minutes. The busser reassured me several times he had told the waiter but I then see him standing there chatting with another employee. At this point I asked the busser not to bother. I would not be having a drink. He came back two more times after that - to drop off dessert menus and to drop off the check. He did not apologize. He did lower the shades to shield us from the sun but I do not know if it was for us or one of the other tables. Ill give him the benefit of the doubt but it hardly redeems the utter lack of hospitality. For management: the waiter was the mid-30s Caucasian gentleman. The bussers were great, even apologetic. They were attentive and general around before we needed them. It would be great if only they could take an order back to the kitchen or bar. They certainly deserve more credit for carrying the team.

I ve been coming to this place for years and it s always been consistently great. It s got so much character in an old craftsman house. The outdoor space with a fireplace is also just as cute. The bar is really cool and has some of the best unique drinks in town. The food is always good. You can t go wrong with any of their appetizers but my favorites are the bread, calamari, octopus tostada and hamachi crudo. Main courses are also solid. My faves are the steak and short ribs. Aside from the food, drink and atmosphere being awesome, service is always great especially Sara!! She s the best! I love the Raymond, it s such a classic Pasadena restaurant.

The food was exceptional!! Ive never had Jidori Chicken... WOW, it was so tender and delicious!! My friend had the scallops, and they were incredibly tasty!! The spicy cocktail and tangy mocktail were also excellent!! The ambiance is chill, but elegant at the same time. Valet parking was very convenient and professional too. Parking: The location is a touch tricky and requires valet due to the space limitations. It was $8 for valet. Street parking is an option if you choose.

This place rocks. The cocktails are great and tasty food, with a great atmosphere. Highly recommend this place. The general Manager Derius and staff were accommodating planning our event.

Historical Pasadena restaurant that some people forget about. I hadn t been here for years until this evening. I d give 5 stars, but my pork chop was dry and little overcooked. Everything else was wonderful, including the drinks. It s very intimate inside, but as the restaurant fills up it gets quite loud. The patio is covered and heated, but you may find yourself having to talk over the nearby tables or road noise. Valet parking only, $8 at the time of this review. There is street parking available on Fair Oaks though.

We were celebrating my hubby s birthday. We had been wanting to come for the longest time. They sat us near an open door. It was cold. My sea base was very small, very thin and was served with the skin side up. Very unappealing! It had good flavor, but the fish itself was as thick as the skin was very disappointing. My hubby had the short rib. Nothing about the food was exceptional to our disappointment. Tater tots were great, and so was the service. Except they were a little slow with cocktails.

The Raymond has become a regular spot for my husband and I to attend our anniversary. This would be our 3rd year dinning here for the occasion and each time we are never disappointed! The food and the drinks are always top tier. Aside from this, we have come here for brunch a few times with some friends and again, its simply the best! Please give it a try if youre a local or just in the neighborhood.

My favorite spot for cocktails in Pasadena! The space is big, got both indoor and outdoor space and a couple fireplaces. Valet parking available for $8, also lots of street parking around

Great place! Cool vibe! The servers were very attentive and the manager is also hands on with table touching. The alcohols are pretty strong, worth every penny! We came here during Sunday brunch to celebrate my birthday and we enjoyed our time here! The food were all delicious in a very unique American style and portions are mostly shareable. My favorite one is oddly the cinnamon roll! I can t describe it but I got it as an appetizer and also for dessert. Yes, I ordered it twice! We were seated outside on a February morning and the atmosphere and temperature were perfect. Reservation is highly recommended although we were walk in. Kid friendly, no wheelchair access, valet parking but there might be parking spots on the street if you get lucky. It s a little walk down the Railroad St though. This is my second time at this place. My first time was dinner on a summer night. It was intimate and perfect spot for a date. I mostly review food, but I really appreciate the employees here. Our server, the manager, the busboy, our cocktail waitress, the bartender they were all so attentive, friendly, very welcoming and just in general nice people!

Came here to celebrate. Had the bolognese and it was divine. Service was great as staff there were very attentive & friendly. Ambience was great indoors as the building was beautifully built & it was too cold for outdoors dining for me. Only wish the menu had more of a selection.

Grade A- (90): Nice restaurant, unusual location and great setting specially in the patios. Plenty of heaters make you feel like youre eating inside with great surroundings. The food was good but the presentation was sub par. While my NY Steak tasted very good, (I called it peekaboo steak) it was hidden under piles of vegetables (see picture), seemed a bit like the chef called in sick and the cook took over, the recipe is there but the artist was not. Plating is a part of the overall taste. The pork chop was very tender and tasty. The short rib was excellent. I would definitely go back. It would definitely be an A of the presentation of the food is better. Parking is Valet ($8.00) and very convenient. Parking: Valet $8

The food was awesome! The atmosphere was great. The valet was cute and efficient. The waitress never came by. The bus boy was great. Too bad the waitress ruined everything.

Love the atmosphere here - a little spooky, but in a beautiful historic way. The cocktails were great and the steak was very good, but the service was what stood out the most. The entire staff was friendly and warm, the GM, Gina, popped by to say hi and bring us drinks, and our waiter gave us both great service and a hilarious Sasquatch impression that had our whole table cracking up.

food is good, but nothing i would personally come back for. our server was quite entertaining, and did a Sasquatch dance i will never forget. that would be worth a return.

Reliable, and very cool cocktail selection. Id like more entree variety (or more frequent updates), but all of the choices are good. Especially enjoyed the Ahi Poke.

Look at the raw steak that was served to me after asking for it to be medium. I paid $44+ for this steak. Its raw. I ate about 1/4 of it, before realizing why it tasted so bad, since I was outside and it was dark, so I couldnt see. The server offered a new one, but my disappointment had already run its course and it was already too late. I took it home, to ACTUALLY COOK IT, and this is what the photos are of. Additionally, I got a glass of water and it tasted bad. Like, metallic or something. So, I have no idea what to think about that one.

Food is kind of disappointed. My Sea Bass is so fishy with other ingredients to cover it. Rib eye steak is decent and juicy. I will use interesting to describe the Octopus Appetizer. Most customers are celebrating Birthdays. They serve you a mini birthday cake, very nice. Deserve a good tips of course. The environment is romantic. Valet parking is available or you can park on street. I prefer an early bird dinner and take some photos.

Definitely one of my most favorite meals recently! I was in town visiting a friend, took me out for a birthday lunch here, and they had a specific birthday menu (at least it said happy birthday at the top). We had happened to come during dine LA week, which is one of my favorite weeks are in LA (Ive literally made the joke before that its LA s birthday gift to me), so wound up eating from the prefix menu, which she ordered the salad (it had pomegranate areoles and some other yummy stuff, I did try a bite although I generally dont eat salad), the beef cheek and the apple tatin. I ordered the pulpo tostado, also the beef cheek (I personally found the mashed potatoes overly mustardy and wasnt able to eat most of them) as well as the flourless chocolate cake, but because it was my birthday they also brought me out a butter, sweet biscuit thing that was actually my favorite dessert of what we got. I know before the pandemic they only had one small patio, but now theyve extended it to three larger patios, we were lucky enough to sit on the one that had running water, and we sat right next to it, which was amazing! the place is super hidden and for years I hadnt realize how large it was on the inside. Drinks why is my friend ordered the Moscow mule, but she said was delicious and I received a tasty virgin Mojito basically. Parking: So luckily, we went in early enough in the afternoon that we received parking in the parking lot, but I do know its a very small a lot and they usually have a valet waiting right out front

Food and service was good. Parking by valet and ask for the dining area near the front or inside. These areas offer larger tables
