They need to hire more people, the customer service is severely lacking due to an obvious staffing issue. I waited 30 minutes for a coffee that never came which is a shame because the food was nice and the restaurant is visually appealing but the service is borderline unacceptable.

Overall, I like the place. I had been there once before. The food was very good. I had the Arancini, which I liked very much, and my companion had the croque monsieur and house-made chips with a great tasting dip. My vermentino wine was fine, but $12 a glass I consider a bit much. The atmosphere is basic pub restaurant with too much noisy music playing all around you.

my boyfriend and I had a great time at this place. I got the French toast and he got an omelette and both were delicious my French toast with serve with candied bananas and it really put it over the edge. There are so many other things I want to try next time I go and I cant wait to go back. Everything else on their menu is as good as what we had. also, the service was amazing. I wish I got the gentlemans name, but he was so friendly, but not overbearing. he smiled A LOT and it made me happy to see. I am so happy we decided to go to this place and I cant wait to go back. Thanks plate 38! Parking: Has its own dedicated parking lot so you dont need to use meters (if its not busy)

Solid B+. Service was good, but wouldn t say great. Food was good - my Croque Monsieur was fantastic but my husbands Eggs and Bacon was a little lackluster. I know it s a simple dish but a lil more food on the plate would ve been better. Will say the vibe was great and the doggie menu was the best I ve ever seen. Simple food but great portions and healthy for our dog. Wasn t the perfect experience but was a good price and we re willing to try them again.

For the appetizer, we order a super-sized Chinese chicken salad. The crispy toppings added a nice crunch to the salad, making it very delicious. The second dish was garlic-herbs fries. These were thin, crispy fries with a decent flavor, nothing too extraordinary. The third dish was a mushroom omelette, which also had spinach and cheese inside. It came with a side of bread and butter, as well as a fresh vegetable salad, which made the meal feel light and refreshing. The last dish, which I highly recommend, was the roasted pork sandwich. It was incredibly flavorful. The pork was paired with an apple and onion sauce, which was a great match. The sandwich was stuffed with a generous amount of pork, and the addition of pickles on the side helped balance out the richness. Everything was made with fresh ingredients, and the portions were generous. Ill definitely come back again and highly recommend this place to everyone Today two people ordered four dishes and two drinks The chicken salad as an appetizer is super large The crunchy texture on top is delicious when added to salad The second course is garlic spice fries French fries are very thin and crispy French fries Tastes mediocre The third course of mushroom omelet It also contains spinach and cheese. Comes with bread butter There is also a vegetable salad that is very refreshing when put together The last one is my most recommended The roast pork sandwich is super bottomless and delicious Especially his pork is paired with apple and onion sauce. Theres a lot of meat inside, so be careful with the cucumbers outside. Everything is real and fresh I will definitely come back next time and highly recommend it to everyone! !

A refreshing atmosphere with the freshest food and is pet friendly!!! My husband and I stumbled upon this amazing restaurant after searching for an hour in Pasadena for somewhere that had parking and patio that would possibly accept dogs. Not only do they accept dogs, but they have a doggie menu!!!! Their workers love working here and say the chef loves what he does. He goes out and picks the freshest vegetables at the farmers market, and thats how he decides his specials, based on whats on season. Fantastic fresh delicious food with wonderful vibes. We dont live close but we will be back!!! And a HUGE thanks to Stephanie!!!! Picture of a happy 12 year old dog with a full belly.

Exceptional location for Dinner. Social hour on Monday allows you to explore the menu and have a tapas experience. We enjoyed the various dishes that were all delicious, fresh and full of flavor. Tony served us along with Celestino. Service was excellent, they were both extremely attentive and met all our requests. We will be making it back again and soon. Don t skip the seafood options, especially the oysters and their crudo! We went for 2nds on both.

I recently relocated to Pasadena and found this restaurant particularly awesome. The food is always good. Ive tried breakfast, lunch and dinner and each time I was always very satisfied with my selections. Its locally owned (Chef Rob) place which I prefer over chain restaurants, which Pasadena seems to have more than its share. Great wine list and cocktail menu. Bartenders are always helpful. I cant say enough about this place. Im a fan.

I was the first customer in the restaurant. I ordered a basic egg breakfast. Several parties came after me. 45 minutes later, most of them had their food. An apology from the waiter as I watched others get their food (he must have seen me looking around). I waited as others got their food. It was obvious I was not welcome here (btw, I happened to be the only African American in the restaurant). Humiliating! I left and walked to Starbucks and was treated like a human being. Smh

TL:DR; The food was good, but was vastly overshadowed by the painfully slow and inaccurate service. Very disappointed. The restaurant seemed inadequately staffed. We arrived right on time for our reservation and waited around 10 minutes before we were acknowledged by the host, and another 15 minutes before getting a table. After that it was at least another 10 minutes before our server greeted us and took our drink order. Drinks took awhile to arrive but the food arrived fairly quickly, except that one of our orders was incorrect (server said she hit the wrong button.) So, three of us had our food while one had to wait another 10-15 minutes before her correct order came out. The server was gracious and apologetic, and brought us complimentary pancakes for the table. We were still charged full price for the late meal. Overall the food was good, but the service was so disorganized and slow that I cant see myself returning.

I have been a fan of Plate 38 since it opened 14 years ago. However, what began as an ambitious and often successful culinary vision has sadly declined. High prices, small portions, spotty service, and uneven food quality has made me less likely to venture east, out of my local neighborhood, to experience what was once, a far more refreshing dining experience. Avoid self-satisfied complacency, Plate 38. Go back to the fresh and plucky go-getter you used to be!

Been there several times alone, love to sit on patio mid day, 1st snd 2nd time I was asked to move to another table because a 4 person table is for more people ! ( mind you it was a weekday around 2:30 pm, not crowded at all, all tables in patio were available but one. The next time I take my aunt for lunch about 2:30 ,pm, not crowded on a weekday. We were asked to move to a smaller table for two. But we wanted to sit outside in the sun. About 4 months later I went back again ( the food is good) same time and during the week , I was told I could sit on patio. Therfore, I sat in a different table to watch the game on the inside TV screen. Then I was asked to move to another table or maybe sit in side. This place has the worst customer service with there patio rules. No signs posted indicating anything about seating in the patio. I felt really insulted and embarrassed as people watched me try to reason with them about the situation and telling people where they can and cannot sit. They need to get it together before they end up with a law suit!!

Good food, restaurant was lightly staffed but still received very good service. Be careful with hidden prices on the menu - hamburgers don t come with anything but the ~$20 burger, so you have to add another ~$8 for fries. Also, be sure to bring enough cash with you if you want to avoid the hefty credit card fee - it was ~4% for our bill, which these days can amount to quite a bit. Parking: Shared parking lot for the complex. Could become difficult to find a spot.

The back of the house, executive chef and kitchen staff deserve the first acknowledgement and complement of this review. You immediately notice that their food is consistent, good quality, delicious, plated well and distributed efficiently. Sadly, i feel the front of the house doesn t mirror that same efficiency. It s my assumption that they are understaffed and not utilized in an organized or productive way. We were delivered our food and the table was still missing brewed hot coffee. Servers seemed to be everywhere and anywhere, glasses empty, dirty dishes not cleared from tables, no host monitoring the door regularly. It just felt unorganized and a little chaotic. The sucky part about leaving a rough review is that every single employee we interacted with was so kind, patient and welcoming! They re surely doing their best and being so nice on top of it. My family will still return and truly just rooting for them to get the front of the house running smoothly. We had a great meal but know what to expect next time.

Food was absolutely 5/5. Wed go again except for the drink thing. Also, if were getting picky, the waiter didnt write anything down. Food order was correct, but had to ask multiple times for water. Top-tier Pasadena spot. Although its been there for a decade now, Im not sure people consider it a staple of Pasadena the way Parkway Grill, Bistro 45, or The Raymond is. First time coming here for a brunch and I was a little disappointed by the service. Our party of 16 was sat outside since they said they couldnt accommodate us inside and that already delayed our waitress. She was bouncing between tables inside and our table outside. We all ordered the Bottomless Mimosa option and we had a total of 2 mimosas each in the 90-minute window that we had. Our food came out on time and was the perfect temperature. I ordered the Croque Madame Sandwich and it was delicious. It was also a pretty big portion that could be shared amongst two people. I dont know if I return here for brunch as we were waiting for our waitress to come with drinks and they also only have 2 restrooms which took forever to wait for. There is no room inside to form a line for the restroom as it is exactly five feet from the closest table and/or bar seat. I didnt enjoy the lag and the wait on our drinks was not worth the price.

I haven t been here for a while and I was pleasantly surprised that the place is still busy. They set up a relatively big tent for outside dining in addition to their regular space and patio. Parking is tighter because of said tent. The dinner menu is pretty solid. The four cheese sexy Mac and gem salad are shareable. The skirt steak is predictable but the baked trout was amazing. So was the truffle mushroom burger. We came back for brunch a few weeks later. We had to wait despite our reservation. The brunch offerings were pretty standard. The prime rib sandwich was savory delicious. The chips in the chilaquiles were pretty soggy. On both visits, the restaurant was understaffed but the servers stepped up to make both visits pleasant. Vegetarian options: There are salads and a delicious mushroom burger

I wish they added more bechamel. You can definitely taste the Gruyère! Pancakes - they packed it with blueberries in the pancake! I like how the lemon custard balanced it out. Would recommend if you like blueberry pancake and lemon custard! The staffs updated us almost every 5-10 min about our food. Our food took almost 25 minutes to get out. Lovely dining in a somewhat unassuming spot. The food was artfully crafted and the cocktails were delicious and well balanced. The real star of the show though was dessert, a take on strawberry shortcake that makes 99% of strawberry desserts look ill advised by comparison. While it is a little bit of a splurge, I cant wait to come back to this hidden gem as its well worth it. Vegetarian options: Some vegetarian options, I opted to keep it light and do the beet salad, but will report on the portabello cap burger on my next venture. Parking: They are located in a small shopping center with free lot. By dinner time, most of the other businesses are closed but I think lunch/brunch might be a little challenging

Nice selection of all American favorites with a modern twist. They are a bit perennially under staffed though

What a serendipitous find. Hadnt been there for years. Great service, everyone so friendly and the food was terrific. Tried several small plates. Cuban sandwdich, grilled f I sh taco, etc. And dessert was the best. Strawberries, cream and pound cake

This restaurant is super nice and decently priced. They have a variety of foods that I enjoy and the waiters are super attentive. They also made sure I had enough water during my meal. Which seems to be a challenge at most restaurants I ve been to since moving back to California. Highly recommend!

Been going here for years and years, and the food is always great. Order a medium rare burger, get a perfectly cooked medium rare burger. Order a medium rare skirt steak and get a medium rare cooked steak. Order medium rare duck and get a beautifully cooked medium rare duck. Kitchen is always on point and the drinks are great!

This place is outstanding! They have an excellent selection of appetizers, drinks, and main dishes. I tried the ocean trout plate. All I can say is WOW!! Its a bit noisy, but the combination of great service and delicious food will make you forget that youre dining next to a busy street corner. Reservations are highly recommended. Place 38 has a bar with 2 big screen TVs, and they have an outdoor seating area, which is tented but open. Go check it out! Parking: It can be a bit of a challenge to find parking in this way to small parking lot.

Food was delish. Portions were more more than adequate. The service and atmosphere were worth noting as superb . Quaint little midtown eatery nestled in the industrial east side of Pasadena . Definitely will go again!

Plate 38 is a gem and definitely my new favorite place. The pancakes and that lemon curd inspired me to go home and try making it myself, but if I fail who cares i can come back for all of theirs. Also very lovely staff thank you for a beautiful experience

This place was my haven during the heat dome that hit The Valley early September. Too hot to do anything than enjoy a cold beer, the excellent cuisine and really friendly service from the team at Plate 38 from late afternoon. And I made a new friend who I am still chatting to via Insta. Fond memories and thank you for making me feel welcome a long, hot way from home

Food is just ok But the Service is horrible Our waitress was rude and just downright grumpy Read the fine print they charge an extra 3% for wage compensation and also add 18% for parties over 5 so like it or not you will be paying 21% gratuity on top like it or not Maybe if food and service were good I wouldnt mind I Definitely will not be back

We always come here for date night. My parents were in town so we brought them for Valentines Day after coming the night before( we made a reservation for VD). They enjoyed their meal immensely. Vladimir, Tony, and Stephanie were our staff and I could not speak more highly of them.

Nice big juicy hamburgers to Angel hair pasta with pesto, everything is delicious . Only downside is its right on the corner of Colorado and Sierra Madre Blvd in Pasadena so it can get a little loud with traffic and sunset can be annoying if youre facing west on the west side of the resturant. Full bar. Parking: In a strip mall with a couple of businesses. Wheelchair accessibility: 2 or 3 handicapped parking scattered thru parking lot

The food was fantastic! Our server was great and attentive to our group. There was an issue, however, with the drink Id order; I requested a virgin mixed drink and the bartender made the drink WITH alcohol.

Amazing Owner/Chef and staff! We had a dinner last night, 22 attended for the departure of one of our VPs. Everyone loved it! Delicious food, great atmosphere, and awesome staff! Robert the Owner and Chef, really helped make this event a hit. Their manager Dennis was amazing as well. Would definitely recommend, specially as they are great with large groups!

The servers were more interested in watching and talking about the FIFA game on the screen than serving their customers. I didnt get one food item I ordered and had to flag down someone to take my payment. The food was good, but if you are on a lunch break this would be a place to avoid.
