We dined here as a group of five and left feeling underwhelmed. While the atmosphere was pleasant and inviting, the service left much to be desired. Our water glasses went unrefilled throughout the meal, and we had to remind the server twice to bring olive oil, which never arrived. The food itself was overly greasy, and for the price, it simply wasn t worth it. The ambiance is the only thing keeping this from being a lower rating. Unfortunately, good vibes can t make up for poor service and underwhelming food quality.

One of the tastiest Greek restaurants. High-end and on the expensive side but the place is perfect for special occasions, at least. The fish is super fresh and highly recommend coupling with one of the salads and appetizers. The zucchini cakes and artichoke souvlaki are recommended! Vegetarian options: There are lots of vegetarian dishes innate to the Mediterranean diet. This restaurant s representation is no exception.

The food was also very good with complimentary never ending bread with olive oil. Very good bread. The food overall was quite good and comforting. Saghanaki - Very good and flavorful enjoyed the cheese a lot Moussaka - very comforting and flavorful Kokinisto me Manestra - I enjoyed the lamb shank a lot it was super tender and very mild. More hype than substance. If you re looking for authentic Greek cuisine, Kakkori misses the mark. While this is a large, well-run restaurant with a bustling atmosphere reminiscent of dining at Grand Central Station the food leaves much to be desired. The staff is professional, attentive, and well-trained, but unfortunately, the flavors fall flat. The moussaka was bland and lacked the traditional spices that give this dish its distinctive taste. My wife s sea bream was also disappointingly unseasoned, with no hint of marinade. While our server was excellent, the food itself is mediocre at best. Don t waste your money here if youre after genuine Greek flavors.

Incredible food and service. Arrive early and sit at the bar if you have no reservations and are solo. I had two of their off-menu specials--an heirloom tomato salad to start and lamb cooked over a fire pit for my main. Insane flavor, definitely one of the better meals Ive had in a while. Dont walk here, run here.

I had a fantastic experience here. After an intense gym workout, I had high expectations for the food, and Kokkari completely exceeded them. We started with an appetizer that was impressive bf even said it was the best lamb chops he s ever had. Then we tried the lamb stew, which was just as tender and juicy as the service described, it literally melted in my mouth! As a seafood lover, I was really looking forward to our branzino, but unfortunately, the server forgot about it. It was a bit of a buzzkill, and I was very disappointed at first. However, the generous portions of the lamb dish ended up being just right amount of food for us. To make up for the oversight, the restaurant offered us a complimentary dessert (pistachio cream pie and Greek yogurt) that we ordered, which was a surprising and thoughtful gesture. Overall, 5 stars for the quality of the delicious and authentic food, beautiful decor, and welcoming ambiance, and my lovely company, who turned my hungry frustration into a happy and satisfied evening (before haunted house) :)

The food is delectable and dessert here is evil and I was ready to sin. The service here is out of this world and wish it could be replicated everywhere. Anna, our solicitous and gracious server , guided me and a friend through a flavorful Greek lunch, dessert and coffee; we made a lunch out of appetizers, Greek dessert and strong coffee. Loved the garlicky hummus , dolma, and Tzatziki, the heavenly cool yogurt dip. The food here is better than in Greece. Need to go back here. Architecture and interior design makes me do a double take all the time .

Shockingly although this is a long-standing San Francisco institution, first time I have made it here. Wonderful dinner with my wife and my parents for a belated birthday for my father. Lovely setting, and not nearly as noisy as many restaurants tend to be these days, so we could actually converse. Food was excellent, from the appetizers including a special of the day, lambs tongue. They do have a full bar, but elected to try some Greek riffs on classic cocktails including a sidecar which was good although a bit sweeter then a well-made standard; I did quite enjoy my variation of a Negroni. The mains were also superb, and the lamb shank with orzo is hands-down the best lamb shank I have ever had. Better even than my previous favorite at Maykadeh. Deserts were the relative low point, I personally have never been that excited or interested in the standard range of Greek desserts, but they werecertainly very good for what they are. Oh and had an excellent wine pairing, a red vandal which can be hard to find. Will definitely look forward to coming back again.

I am deeply disappointed with the customer service experience I had at Kokkari. I tried to cancel my reservation over 30 hours in advance because my wife had unfortunately fractured her ankle, and we were unable to make it the next day. Despite explaining the situation, the management insisted on sticking to their policy and charged me $25 per person for our party of 5, citing it as their standard practice even though their website clearly states that the charge may be applied, not that it s guaranteed. I understand the desire not to lose out on a reservation; after all, I m in business too. But canceling 30 hours ahead should have allowed enough time to rebook the table, especially given that when I checked the following day, the restaurant was indeed fully booked again. It s truly unfortunate that Kokkari chose to rigidly adhere to policy rather than showing compassion and understanding for their customers. It seems that service and flexibility take a back seat to rules here, which is really disappointing. We had heard great things about Kokkari, and it s sad that our experience left us feeling this way.

Kokkari Estiatorio offers an exceptional Greek dining experience in San Francisco. The food was excellent, with authentic flavors and high-quality ingredients shining through in every dish. Our server, Frank, truly elevated the meal with his attentive service and expert knowledge. His wine recommendations were spot-on, perfectly complementing our food choices and enhancing the overall dining experience. Franks familiarity with the menu and ability to guide us through our selections demonstrated a deep understanding of Greek cuisine and the restaurants offerings. The ambiance at Kokkari strikes a balance between upscale and welcoming, making it suitable for both special occasions and more casual nights out. Kokkari Estiatorio, with standout staff like Frank, proves itself as a top destination for Greek cuisine in the Bay Area.

This is my third week in a row coming back to Kokkari. Twice by myself and I thought I would never enjoy dining by myself. Food has always been something that carries a lot of social meanings - connection, memories shared, treats for a loved one. Eating alone strips the best part about eating for me. Well, its not the case for Kokkari. I wanted to start with what are the things other than food that I love about this place. I love how foreign it feels. It brings far-far-away land to you: the decor, the wine, the food. Every waiter a foreign face with a foreign accent. I love how they make me, a foreigner here, feel at home. And I love that they have always, always taken care of me. Every time I walk in without a reservation. Every time the host finds me a wonderful table. Tonight, the host brought me to the most beautiful table in the whole restaurant - the little nook right by the window. He looked me in the eye and said I want you to enjoy this. I dont know if they recognized me. I hope they didnt. I think they didnt from the new smile I get every time I come here. That to me means more - it means that they have gone out of their way to take care of this absolutely not rich-looking, evidently fob girl that may or may not come back or contribute to what a table s worth. At Kokkari, I dont feel like dining alone even when Im by myself. I feel like I am dining with the whole restaurant. About the food - as I was telling my server this was my third week in a row coming back, a man sitting solo at the bar ordered the same dish his third time in a WEEK. He left the restaurant proclaiming to his server you are stuck with me now! What better testimony to their amazing dishes than this! San Francisco is a new city to me. Im yet to fall in love with her. But this is the first place that Im building attachment to.

Fine dining Greek restaurant with excellent service and high quality food. To start off, I had calamari (which was not fried) and the server brought out some bread and oil. This was stuffed with cheese and drizzled with a light olive oil sauce. Very unique way to cook squid and it was absolutely amazing. I wished there were more than 6 on the plate! Kokkari had a pork chop special the other night roasting over the fire and it was melt in your mouth kind of good. Might ve been the best pork I ve ever had since there was a lot of love and care put into this cut of meat. Wine selection was vast and detailed. The waiter helped me pick a popular Greek red wine. Dessert was phenomenal and I can t even remember the name of it. I ve always wanted to try this dessert and the plate they bring out is picture perfect, had to get it! (Pictured below) Overall, I d come back here for special occasions and spontaneous, luxurious nights out, if I lived here. 10/10, great job Kokkari!

Where to go when you want outstanding cuisine served by an impeccable professional waitstaff in an upscale but comfortable setting. The lamb is roasted to order and is served perfectly prepared. Desserts are well balanced and decadent, and the Greek coffee, which is a sand fired espresso style is a worthwhile indulgence. Waitstaff are courteous and thorough, attending to whatever you require. Our waiter was knowledgeable, had a sense of humor and made sure we were well-taken care of. It gets more crowded as the evening progresses, so be prepared to wait a bit if you arent in the first seating. But the personal attention, notable food and ambiance are worth it! Parking: Parking is downtown, so hunting on the street of parking in the embarcadero are options. Street parking on the weekends is usually easier in the early evening.

I will undoubtedly be returning based on his customer service alone, not that the food wasnt exceptional as well. If I could leave ten stars I would!

Service is outstanding. Welcoming team right when you walk in the front door and ate at bar and bartenders were excellent and personable. Had the branzino and lamb chops. Slightly underseasoned but excellent quality ingredients. Will definitely return so many other dishes to choose from!

Pretty much the de facto standard for high end Greek cuisine. Ive been to Evvia (the Palo Alto sister restaurant) many times but Kokkari in SF was even more grandeur. The ambience transports you to a mediterranean kitchen in a bustling market. You may be in a Grecian adobe. Interesting displays. Plenty of brass. Plenty of wood and clay. You just feel like youve teleported as you walk into the restaurant. Food is pretty much phenomenal. Distinct and confident flavors. Presentation that matches the ambience and the mood of the market. Kokkari nails both upscale dining but with an everyday life vibe. Kokkari is a great experience. Perfect for date nights, business meals, and anything in between. It is so much more than just the food though. Yes, a bit pricey. But absolutely worth it.

One of the best Greek restaurant experiences I have had. We decided to order multiple dishes and share them. The lamb souvlaki was amazing and so was the whole fish (seabass). We tried so many dishes from the baked feta to the spanakopita and they were wonderful. Vegetarian options: Mostly salads. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp for access.

Worth every penny. Delicious, unique experience. Everything looks so good! It s tough to choose. Smelt and lamb chops were my favorite. Wouldn t recommend the stuffed calamari though. My partner and I agreed the flavor was off, but it s certainly an interesting dish. Still good, but could ve passed on the fried cheese.

What an incredible local San Francisco gem! The food was unbelievably the best Greek we have ever had. Get the grilled octopus, the goat and if they have the duck it was our favourite! Don t forget the baklava as it is fully stuffed with goodness and the ice cream is delicious. Food

This restaurant is what anyone would dream a San Francisco restaurant would look like. A beautifully designed space filled with tradition and simple, yet elegant old-world beauty. The food is not that bad either. The salads are fresh and simple (I highly recommend the Kokkari salad with roasted strawberries). The meats are well done and beautifully prepared. A reservation is highly recommended unless youre lucky enough to find bar seating as I was.

So blessed to enjoy the fragrant foods and delicious home wines! Specials include farm fresh seasonal dishes! Hostess and bartenders/ mixologists make my day! Always call for reservations as they stay booked! The coffee.... Vegetarian options: Please note they have a spit/rotisserie in the first main dining room where the lamb is slow cooked.
