Long-standing diner serving traditional breakfast & lunch meals & coffee in an old-school interior.
Great little diner on Main Street in Old Town Newhall. All kinds of old license plates on the walls and other cool old signs. Prices & serving sizes were great with a super friendly staff! The waitress told me the building it is in used to be an ice cream parlor and there is a section of the original bar counter top and stools still in use! Highly recommend checking this place out if you are in the area.

The Way Station Coffee Shop in Newhall is an old-style diner with consistent reasonably priced food and a bottomless cup of good coffee. The portions are generous and the pancakes won't disappoint! Sometimes it's difficult to find a place that opens early, Way Station does, keep in mind they shutter on Tuesdays. A local place you must try for breakfast or lunch.

Way Station is located in a cute area just off Main Street. The area is perhaps the best thing about Way Station. My wife and I went (party of two) and there was a 40 minute wait on a Saturday morning. That actually made us a bit excited (long wait = high demand = good food). Unfortunately, they have an archaic method of keeping track of the wait list by reading off the list and announcing it so you canβt go shop around while waiting because youβre not sure where you are on the list.
When called in, the atmosphere was fun and nostalgic with license plates and old famous people posted around the restaurant. The staff were really helpful and fast but the food took longer than expected. (Thatβs most likely why the wait was so long.) And when the food arrived, it was either over done (I.e., eggs and bacon) or underdone (I.e., the hash-browns). The coffee was not great either, like Maxwell house meets Folgers.
Finally, the price was very reasonable and the menu was not grandiose. They had the essentials but not much else. The best I could describe it would be that most people probably go for nostalgia, not for food.

I was introduced to The Way several years ago and I still love this place. Old school diner that was once an ice cream shop with employees who've been there 30-40 years and who still work just as hard with great attitudes. The food is yummy and is priced right. Head on down to The Way Station!

I was excited to try Way Station...a classic diner, very good prices, and just basic breakfast food, nothing fancy....just what you need every now and then! Unfortunately, my excitement to be here wasn't matched with the experience provided.
I came with my son and we were seated fairly quickly. Outside tables were available too (though it was a little chilly for our tastes so we opted for inside.) There's a big sign that says "wear a mask" at the front door and the staff who greeted us and took our order were all masked.
I had coffee and my son had lemonade. He liked the lemonade...generous pour with a full, separate cup of ice.
The coffee was, at best, browned water...This is the lowest possible standard for diner coffee...Warm? Yes. In a nice mug? Yes. Brown? Yes. Any flavor? None at all. A breakfast place, to be at all legitimate has to have good coffee. The coffee here is not good.
While sipping it I noticed neither of the cooks was wearing their masks properly. One had it around his chin with both his nose and mouth exposed. The other only had his mouth covered with his nose exposed. The first one had no gloves of any kind on and I saw him touch his mouth with his hand, then reach down to put food on a plate. He was also using his bare hand to add cheese to the dish.
I understand different people have different preferences and comfort levels when it comes to health and safety...but it's literally the law of the land that food workers have to wear masks. In the midst of a global pandemic that has killed almost a million people, there's no excuse whatsoever for a cook to not be wearing a mask while preparing food. Not to mention touching his face and then plating the food.
As much as I appreciate a classic diner, a dingy one even, I felt like I was taking a risk by eating food they would serve here. We left some money on the table for the drinks and informed our server we wouldn't be able to stay and left.
I can't imagine ever setting foot in Way Station again after witnessing such flagrant disregard for mandatory health protocols. (Not to mention the lack of common sense on display by the cooks.)

For nearly 20 years of my life this place has been the best example of the breakfast diner of a by-gone era. This place gets really busy but you might be able to squeeze in at the counter. Weekday mornings are quieter and a great time to go.

Sunday.
There was a 15-20min wait which was not bad at all. Very much expected on a Sunday afternoon on this strip down the street from a church.
The service was excellent. We ordered coffee and breakfast. I wanted the steak but they ran out. I had eggs n sausage. My friend ordered pork chop and eggs. The eggs were cooked perfectly the way I ordered. The sausage was ok. The hash browns were pretty good and more than I needed. I had to add some salt n pepper and hot sauce. The sourdough toast was perfect! They butter it for you but if you donβt like too much butter, itβs best you let them know beforehand. I tried my friends pork chop and it was dry and over cooked. I donβt even recall the pork chops being seasoned. The pork chop was definitely the worst thing we ordered and the world needs to know. But again, service was fantastic.
They have a small lot in the back but street parking is also an option.

Walked in restaurant and then decided to sit outside with my friend because it was cold inside. Bus boy said we could sit outside, and I mentioned both tables were dirty. An overweight waitress yells across the room while taking her customers order, hell be right with you. I advised her that he had already acknowledged hell clean the table. So after reading the reviews, I wouldnt let my dead dog eat here. My friend ate alone. Cook has his mask on chin, exposing his nose and mouth. Thanks to Norma, the rude waitress, I read other customers reviews.

Pancakes were a little over beaten, so they were a bit tough. Bacon was old and overcooked. Other guests at my table had decent looking bacon. Mine tasted like it was from the bottom shelves of the freezer. Hopefully just a one time issue. Service was very good. I was with a big group that was on a limited time schedule, so I just delt with it instead of sending it back.

We have many fantastic little diners in this valley, and the Way Station is no exception. Kris, the owner, is such a sweetheart and the entire waiting staff is undeniably charming. This was a staple of my sisters group of friends for over a decade now, and I can see now why she insisted we go. The French toast was perfectly simply sweet, while the clear standout recommended item is the Kris Special with the white/sausage gravy. It can get extremely busy at all open hours due to the diverse work/school start times we all have these days, but it is worth it.

Way Station is located in a cute area just off Main Street. The area is perhaps the best thing about Way Station. My wife and I went (party of two) and there was a 40 minute wait on a Saturday morning. That actually made us a bit excited (long wait = high demand = good food). Unfortunately, they have an archaic method of keeping track of the wait list by reading off the list and announcing it so you can t go shop around while waiting because you re not sure where you are on the list. When called in, the atmosphere was fun and nostalgic with license plates and old famous people posted around the restaurant. The staff were really helpful and fast but the food took longer than expected. (That s most likely why the wait was so long.) And when the food arrived, it was either over done (I.e., eggs and bacon) or underdone (I.e., the hash-browns). The coffee was not great either, like Maxwell house meets Folgers. Finally, the price was very reasonable and the menu was not grandiose. They had the essentials but not much else. The best I could describe it would be that most people probably go for nostalgia, not for food.
