Leafy, country estate with gardens & a wine cellar is the setting for upscale classic French fare.
We have visited this restaurant a few times.
The location is perfect. The patio is stunning. Specially at sunset. You don't see it but the sun rays coming through the trees is beautiful.
The food is always great but may be I bit overprice.

A restaurant with a 1990’s feel it has so many conflicting issues. The staff are lovely but the restaurant smelled like an old folks home. The restaurant was massive maybe 150/200 covers possible but there was around 20 people in the restaurant. It’s like it’s trading on past glory. The menu was far too big to give confidence that it’s all freshly prepared (delivery was a bit too quick too). The menu was structured in a very old fashioned way with Starters followed by a Main with soup or salad. I had French Onion Soup to start it was okay I’ve had worse I’ve also had better and my wife Brie En Croute supposedly to be like a baked Camembert it was inedible. The salad I had was okay but the soup my wife got had the consistency of wallpaper paste and not much flavor. The mains Ribeye bone in was good the veg with it was horrible and inedible my wife’s Pork chop similar to my meat was good but the sauce was disgusting with inedible vegetables too. The wine was okay the selection again is massive. I could not recommend this to anyone I liked.

The place is sadly outdated. The atmosphere is eerily similar to an episode of golden girls. The food was meh at best. The service was fine but with the restaurant less then 1/4 full it leaves you to wonder how they make any tip money.
We tried the escargot which seemed fine but then we have no basis for comparison. The crab cake took me back to my military days and eating MRE’s.
It was one and done for us.

Don’t expect much and you won’t be disappointed.
Shockingly bad food, escargot straight from a can, old soft shell crabs that were breaded, tasted like a refrigerator and that were covered in some sauce that couldn’t hide the day old fish smell, boring, cold potato bread with cheap butter. A server who described the seafood pasta as “noodles with a white sauce “ and didn’t know much about anything, a by-the-glass wine list that offered 6 different glasses of low-end wine that I couldn’t force down and an ambiance of “who cares”? The patio wasn’t set up, chairs scattered around and no working heaters on a beautiful fall evening.

My wife and I took my brother-in-law and his wife here for their anniversary, and it was a fantastic experience. We started with happy hour drinks in the bar, which were great, and then moved to the dining room. For the Hor d’hoerves we had the Stuffed Mushrooms and the Brie which were both great choices. For my entree I had the Sand Dabs which were also amazing. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food and the overall experience. I would highly recommend La Chene for a special evening out.

This is our absolute favorite French restaurant by far. Quaint, classy and tucked away, they serve country style french cuisine, which translates to larger portions than usual for a french restaurant and you can taste the love in their delectable dishes. Simply exquisite. It's also one of the most romantic restaurants we've been to and the service is excellent.

UNACCEPTABLE. My wife & I were here about a month ago, we were seated quickly, after having made a previous reservation, the only redeemable quality of this otherwise abysmal restaurant. I truly wish I could say the ambience was something to desire, but it felt more like an old folks home than a fine dining French restaurant. Perhaps we arrived on the wrong day, we ve heard great things about the supposed ambience, but it fell flat on its face. Proceeding to the dinner, we decided to order a variety of appetizers, as we ve had them at previous restaurants (that don t necessarily specialize in French cuisine) and to say they were lackluster would be an insult. We simply ordered the escargot, the lobster ravioli and the soft shell crab. The escargot was insultingly oily, flavorless and completely disgusting. The lobster ravioli, while the flavor was quite acceptable, the actual ravioli tasted microwaved and premade. The horror we experienced while trying the soft shell crab was unimaginable, incredibly fishing, oily, disgusting and overall unpleasant. Making matters far worse, when we asked for the check after these abysmal appetizers, the waitress incredulously said really? , as if offended by our choice to leave. The only thing that triumphed over these massive failures on the part of the kitchen and staff was the absolutely incompetency of the bar, at $16 and over a drink, we were treated to brilliantly incompetent cocktails and poorly mixed drinks.

Perhaps because it was Mother s Day and the place was crowded the food was very disappointing. The escargots were burnt, the baked Brie was undercooked and the cauliflower soup was very salty. The $54 filet mignon was raw ( not medium/ rare as requested) and the chocolate soufflé had a weird acidic taste. The cocktails were good though!

Went here last night to celebrate our anniversary. I was super excited, because I love French Cuisine, especially a good duck. The food was not good. The escargot were tiny little pieces not much in there and hard to get out. The Duck Lorange was sooo dry and tasteless. Most of our party of 6 were disappointed with the quality. I was chewing one piece forever. Definitely the food was not good and how much is cost is not worth it. The only food that was decent was the Creme Brûlée. Most likely will not return

It was really good and Im assuming the dishes are expensive because of all the wild animal dishes. I wanted to try duck for the first time but decided to play it safe considering my dish was over $50 plus drinks and the other food for my family

There is little to say except AMAZING, which doesn t come close the describing this restaurant. This is a very pricey restaurant but, IMO, worth every penny. The filet and lobster tail is delightful. Cooked perfectly every time I ve ordered it. The tail was enormous and was like butter, not even slightly tough. I ve never had a better lobster tail, even in the Northeast! The filet tips were great, too. The soufflé was truly out of this world. Be sure to tell your server when you order since it does take about 30 minutes to prepare. Hard to believe such an incredible restaurant lives in Saugus between Santa Clarita and Acton, but there it is. The ambiance is great, too. The place used to be a gas and service station in the early 1900 s along the only route between LA and the Central Valley on Sierra Highway. There are some historical pictures hanging on the walls throughout showcasing the previous life of the place. All in all, this restaurant is worth going very far out of your way to enjoy such amazing French cuisine.

I know its supposed to be an icon, but the kitchen is turning out inedible slop. The service was great, and the grounds were pretty, but of our partys 4 meals, 3 were simply awful. The salad was sitting in an inch deep pool of dressing, the meats were fat and gristle, poorly prepared. Service and ambience cant make up for inexcusably poor product.

The restaurant has wonderfully refined atmosphere tucked up in the California mountains perfect for a date night. With old WWII era tunes playing it would have been a perfect ambience for some slow dancing, but there was no room set aside for that. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly. I don t drink, but my wife said her wine was very good (Pinot Grigio). The food was overpriced and disappointing. We paid $200 for the two of us, and it was only okay. This is my only complaint (admittedly a big one since were talking about a restaurant). I really wish the food was better, because everything else about the place was on point.

Me and my boyfriend went in for a nice Valentine s Day dinner the day after Valentine s Day cause my boyfriend worked. Right off the bat we were sat in the entry and it still took our server 10 minutes to get our drink order, only for the bartender to come over 5 minutes later to take our drink order again. And the sad part was she obviously didn t know how to make a gimlet which is a pretty basic cocktail. Then we ordered our food, I ordered the lobster tail and he ordered the pork chop, after waiting 2 hours for our food, my lobster was cold along with both my sides but some how the plate was hot? The pork chop was overdone and beyond salty. They reheated my lobster in the oven before I could tell them I didn t want that cause it would make it rubbery. But it came back and I couldn t even cut the tail, my dinner was ruined and after the wait for our first dish I did even want to bother with a second try. My boyfriend and I have extensive restaurant experience and the fact it took so long for all the service front and back of house and the shift lead couldn t be bothered is a red flag. The only reason I ll give it 2 stars and not one is the owner stopped by our table at the end of our visit and fixed our check so we did pay for the 105$ tail and 50$ pork chop we didn t eat. Definitely disappointed in the all around experience, they need better training or to lower prices to match the quality of what they provide

After reading some negative reviews, I was a little hesitant to return post-pandemic. But the brunch my friends and I ate today was excellent in every way. One friend had the corned beef hash; her poached eggs were done to perfection. Another had the eggs fisherman, and was delighted with her meal. I had the Scallops Provencale and it was excellent. And the cream of lettuce soup was very good! The dessert menu looked enticing, but we were all stuffed (in a good way). I wont let so much time pass between visits next time.

This place has 5 star service and 2 star food. 2 stars are generous. We were shocked by the menu after seeing much good reviews. The bartender is wonderful and steered us away from the terrible house wines. It was weird that there were no French wines, no rose, and no sparkling wines, but we rolled with it. The charcuterie was clearly Sysco delivered and the calamari was a salt bomb. We moved to a table for dinner and the service was excellent. The duck was clearly frozen and reheated as were the potatoes and green beans. Nothing was fresh or seasonal. The French onion soup was from a powder mix. Save the $200 and go to Simonette in Culver City for decent French food. Owners, please take note up update to 2022 before Gordon Ramsey finds you.

One of the most outstanding French restaurants I have found outside of France. I have been coming to this wonderful spot since Juan Alonso opened it in 1980. The place has gotten larger, and there is even the perfect setting for weddings now included, plus wine which Juan has perfected. ONE outstanding thing is the food is absolutely AWESOME. There were 7 of us for a celebratory brunch, and each of us thought we had the best dish of all. There was lots of sharing of appetizers and plates. We had a variety of appetizers including pate, escargot, stuffed mushrooms, cheese plate, and French Onion soup. Each was better than the best....but the FRENCH SOUP as always hasnt changed and was sooooper good! Dinners involved Pasta Eggs Alsacence which was everybodys favorite, Eggs La Chene, NY Steak, Brunch favorite Steak Roquefort, Strawberry Chicken, Salmon, and Calves Lives. The marvelous dishes prepared in this kitchen are created and served with absolute perfection. I have traveled to many countries and had the delightful pleasure of eating in some of the best restaurants in the world....but I always find when I return to my longtime standby Le Chene, I am transformed to the French Countryside and the wonderful dishes I always find there. THE BEST PLACE EVER!!!!

My husband and I went there for the first time to celebrate our 24th anniversary. We were so happy with the service we received and the food and drinks were outstanding. I made a reservation and made a note that we were celebrating our 24th. At the end of our dinner, our servers came over with dessert for us with a lit candle on top wishing us a happy anniversary. We will be going back soon!!!!

The drive up to this place is very cool, I had a chance to check out their website before going and got a quick history briefing on this place and its definitely cool to see it. The food was amazing and the drinks were really great also. Its a bit on the expensive side but its an experience. The appetizers were fantastic ( mushrooms, and ravioli) and the entrées were really nice as well.
