Huckleberry is a Santa Monica Farmers’ Market-inspired bakery, café and marketplace that’s a one-stop neighborhood destination for beautiful pastries, artisan coffee, gourmet provisions, a casual breakfast or lunch, and late-afternoon private parties. The pastry case bursts with tempting treats and the savory menu is bright and nourishing, with a hint of nostalgia. We use the best organic, seasonal ingredients we can get our hands on, and cater a variety of celebrations and holidays.
Was excited to try this spot given the mantra for Huckleberry is all about environmentally-responsible sourcing ie grabbing all the ingredients from the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market and other regional farmers.. and making sure they’re organic
Went in for Saturday brunch and it was ‘ok.’ Was looking forward to the pancakes which were underwhelming. Fresh cream / whipped cream is extra.. which means you have to line up again just to get it, if you didn’t order it when getting the pancakes (how is anybody supposed to know this? Lol)
Service is ok. The wait staff appear slammed.. and patrons need to order up at the counter.. so unclear what exactly we’re tipping for..
That said, the chocolate chip WAS good.. the breakfast burrito was also just ‘ok’
Unlikely I’ll be back but cool concept!

This was *seriously* the best hash I’ve had in my life. So flavorful, so good! The sweet yams go perfectly with the delicious, tender brisket. And I actually hate arugula but it was basked in this amazing lemon vinaigrette that somehow went so perfectly with the dish. The pancakes were also amazing - probably worth it to spring for the extra couple bucks for toppings though :) My only complaint is that it’s so damn loud in there - if you’re trying to catch up with someone, this probably isn’t the best place. And since this was our first time it wasn’t immediately obvious if we were supposed to wait for a host or just get in line (no signage that I can recall anyway). But that being said, someone came up to us pretty quickly and told us what to do (get in line and they’ll assign a table to you). Definitely will go again though!

The fried chicken sandwich, that’s all you need to know, ORDER IT! Everyone in every city makes it, some look good but in my experience they’re never very good , usually disappointing. Not here, it’s awesome, I returned a few days later to get one for my flight home. Of course the pastries are delicious if you get there before selling out.

I was so excited for a treat.... The sheet cake tasted like it had been sitting out for days. The frosting had been beat too much and was grainy and curdled. The coffee cake had just been brought out so it was great.... Until I bit into egg shells.
The mini peanut butter cupcake was ok, nothing special. Wish I hadn't wasted my money on this place.

Very busy place. Seating in and outside. We had to sit outside with our dog. But there were no seat cushions on the very cold metal chairs - I know it is a luxury problem to mention here in Cali, but it was cold in Nov. and there was no cutlery, salt and pepper we had to take it out ourselves. But food was good!

Got coffee, sandwich, and eggs. Bad sandwich: Very hard (not fresh) baguette. Very small piece of Gruyère. Drowned in mustard. They pre-make these and keep them in the case, be warned. Mediocre Coffee - Serviceable but not remarkable. Bad eggs - Overdone, extremely late service. At least it s kind of cute though!

Many times in the past I ve called and asked for two or three frosted doughnuts to be set aside for me to pick up later. Today, however, I called with the same thing in mind and was hugely disappointed to be told that they re not on the menu anymore. Since they seemed to consistently sell out, this decision makes no sense to me. Perhaps the hand decorating was too labor intensive or it was more financially feasible to make only the cinnamon. (I know those will always be on the menu, because they re the favorite of the owner s father) At any rate, that s one more special thing gone to memory.

Servicing my car again today, I checked Huckleberry for its BF offerings (this time avoiding the sugar butter laden pastries). Except for the $22 grain bowl, the menu did not show other modern appetizing but healthy BF dishes, such as white egg fluffy omelette with veggies or at least spinach. Frankly the $22 grain sounds too big & $$ for 1 person s BF. The counter helper agreed the grain bowl was big, and the other BF were leaning toward traditional unhealthy fare, laughing This is America! I laughed back This is why we all get so big and unhealthy . Huckleberry s might appeal to those wanting traditional American food. I left without ordering. While waiting for my car, I picked up two pastries: a muffin with apricot and raspberry, and a Kouign-amann. I think the label for the Kouign-amann was misplaced because I got a square berry tart!! Both were rich and tasty, but quite very sweet, especially the berry tart. I just had a bite of each and packed them for the freezer to avoid a sugar attack! Next time I will try the hot breakfast menu!

This came recommended from a lot of sources but frankly I am not sure what the buzz is. The service is excellent though you have to stand in line to order food, but the rest is just ok not terrible, but also nothing particularly remarkable. Location is not great, menu choices are fairly limited and not exceptional. Decent place just not something I would go out of my way to visit

Seriously it s so sad to give mediocre review to this once beloved bakery in Santa Monica. What is going on? It was truly a place that I highly recommended to people and loved visiting. We stopped there last week and the counters were empty. The place just look so sad. We said a couple pastries and they were just blah. The prices have increased dramatically, which I am OK with as long as the quality represents the price but in this case, it didn t say, but I think this is going into the history of once a good bakery.

Chose this coffee shop as they advertised Gluten free. The gentleman serving us did not understand Gluten free, bread was Gluten free but chicken was deep fried and coated with wheat flour. My husband is Coeliac and this would have caused him sickness for five days. The manager did offer to replace sandwich, we got cooked chicken and replaced the breaded chicken. I think some allergy learning is required. Dietary restrictions: Lack of knowledge about celiac disease.

We paid $61.89 for very little food. I got a ham and Gruyère sandwich for $18; the bread was so hard I thought I might break a tooth. Husband got a chopped chicken salad for a whopping $24. He said it was just okay. Not your mama s chicken salad for sure! Third person in our group got two organic scrambled eggs for $6.00. Tasted good, she said, but not worth $6.00. Also, got a blueberry bran muffin for $6.50. We could make six blueberry muffins at home that taste better. I do not recommend this place! Totally overpriced for what you get! Also paid a 3% health charge. You will be hungry or broke after you leave Huckleberry. Ridiculous! Definitely not gonna be my huckleberry!

I tried to pick up an UberEats delivery for a customer today. First, I try to help them by pointing out that UberEats has their business in the wrong location on the map, which they were not thankful for. It was as if my mentioning of the error was inconvenient for them; just odd response/behavior. Then, when I realize that my vehicle would not accommodate such a large amount of food and coffee (catering quantity), I nicely inform them that I ll have to cancel the delivery because my car is too small. The female lead and some guy (you know, that one employee that wants to be in charge but isn t) give me attitude and guy says, we have a customer waiting on a $1,000 order!! . I again say, my car does not have room . With attitude the woman says, fine, let s unload ALL of this (big sigh + eye roll) , as if I m the one and only UberEats delivery driver in all of Santa Monica and the surrounding area. I m the one that lost money for not being able to make the delivery, not them. The food may be of great quality (don t know, I will never try after this), but the people running the bakery are of very low quality; bad energy, poor perspective, sour attitude.

Portions here are a joke. One small piece of bread with smoked salmon for $21. The kids eggs look like half an egg and a piece of reheated bacon cut in half for $8. We also informed them that our daughter was celiac and the cashier forgot to make note of it. Thankfully I had an intuition to check with the kitchen. The first person I spoke to told me this is not celiac friendly kitchen and I shouldn t have ordered here even though the cashier said differently. Thankfully the chef came over and informed us she d make it herself and confirmed the cashier didn t specifics gluten free on the order. Huckleberry has gone down hill. Higher prices, smaller portions and poor customer service. Did I mention the cashiers was walking around with his fly down? For two adults and kids it was $70. Poor value for portions.

I hadnt been to Huckleberry in some time. Maybe it was the time I came (2 pm) -- after the lunch rush of serving many customers --but the counter person seemed disinterested. I had to correct the person on my order. A question I asked about two salads was met with seeming disinterest. Hoping this is just a one time issue or just isolated to this one person because the food at Huckleberry remains excellent. Inventive, healthy, leveraging local food inputs.

this place does not deserve the hype, Im sorry. to get a pretty basic breakfast youll end up spending over $30 per person - now, I dont have a qualm about spending a pretty penny on food! the problem is that what youll get will be A. extremely basic B. extremely underseasoned. for example, see that brown avocado on my plate? not even a squeeze of lemon on it. no flakey salt. same with the eggs - no seasoning whatsoever. the hashbrown was underwhelming - again, unseasoned, not crispy. coffee was also pretty meh. to top it all, the breakfast was served with toasted bread instead of the advertised English muffin. save your money, youll get better food and service at Philz Coffee a couple of blocks down the road!

2 stars because the cafe is aesthetically pleasing and their pastries were mid at best. The food is way over priced for what you re getting. I ordered a breakfast burrito that cost $18 then it costs extra to add meat. They obviously did not use fresh eggs and used the egg that comes from a carton. The red salsa in the burrito also tasted like it was past its expiration date. And they put the same salsa on the side to go along with the side of extra salty tortilla chips. The tortilla chips were also extra greasy. I only took a few bites out of the burrito and could not finish it because it was gross. Then I ordered an overpriced Turkey sandwich which not only lacked in flavor but the turkey deli slices felt mushy. I at least did have a chocolate croissant that was decent.

My wife and I live in OC. Every time we make our way to the west side of LA we can t help but come here. It s simple. We love the fried egg sandwich. I m sure their other stuff is bomb too but all we eat is the egg sandwich. That bread is fire!! Parking is a pain, and sometimes it gets pretty hectic inside but we ve always found a seat! Highly recommend.

One of the best breakfast burritos on the west side. Coffee is really good as well, lunch is also really good, I get a premade salad usually or the chicken sandwich :)

Charming neighborhood dining small intimate environment farm to table style preparations. Highly recommend the Huckleberry breakfast meal accompanied with Huckleberry jam. Alfresco dining is available.

Really loud athmosphere. The server and/or cleaning crew was rude. We are still chatting and the staff making rude noises that makes you want to leave the place.

My favorite breakfast spot in Santa Monica. Very good coffee and great food options and taste. Service needs sometimes an improvement.

Super tasty pastries and brunch options. On the more expensive side though!

The Huckleberry Cafe in Santa Monica has indoor and outdoor seating. We elected the outdoor option. Theres a pandemic, after all. You need to go inside in order to order and pay. Payment in advance is actually convenient since you can just get up and leave at the end of your meal. Other than that, theres normal table service. Our servers and busses were friendly and efficient. I had lox and cream cheese. They call it something else. Its on sourdough bread and is topped with pickled onions and grilled cherry tomatoes and capers. Its absolutely delicious. My daughter had a breakfast burrito, and everyone else had the Huckleberry breakfast, eggs, thick cut bacon and home fries. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Theres free parking in the back, and the place is accessible to the handicapped. I recommend the Huckleberry Cafe.

Drove out from Glendale and have lived in LA for 12 years and can say this is definitely a hipster place. Food was prompted as organic and even though it tasted very fresh. It was not a good value. $5 dollar biscuit was worth $3 bucks at best and the breakfast burrito comes with no protein like bacon or sausage. These items were an additional $3.5 dollars. The burrito, which is organic and all ingredients from a local market. With no meat cost $18 bucks. It was not good! I only ate half because I was hungry! They have a ton of bakery items but I feel like they are way overpriced. I understand I am in Santa Monica and things are more expensive along with fresh Ana organic food but ithe ultimate goal should be taste then value!

A cafe without wifi. Mediocre service. Crazy prices.

Tis not as good as it thinks it is. Or maybe as it really was. But as I sit here trying to enjoy my $40 breakfast, some thoughts come to mind: There is some attention to quality. But the food was not hot. The eggs were not that good. The English muffin was cold and barely cooked. Unbuttered. And no butter in sight. I had to go in and ask for the butter. And the butter was hard. Why dont people leave the butter out? Anyway, I digress. tl;dr It was slightly pompous and a bit of a rip.

Had breakfast just yesterday and to be very honest it wasn t worth the prices. Fresh squeezed orange juice $7.5 was maybe the only thing worth the $. Ordered the breakfast platter and the avocado was half black and ready to be thrown out. Huevos rancheros were mediocre. Will not be coming back.
