Pono Burger

This was absolutely the best burger and fries I have ever had. Period. I stumbled in at ‘Happy Hour’ on Thursday after finding my air b and b. Literally steps away from where i’m staying - had little to no expectations and wow, was I beyond pleasantly surprised. Chill,cool comfy vibe, great service and truly excellent food. 2 really good mojitos, burger and huge serving of fries were $32. Less than i’ve ever spent on a meal since arriving in LA. Will be back (many) times before I have to leave SaMo!

I’ve had a burger, (it’s good) fried chicken salad, (light and tasty) fries and very spicy fried green beans (yum)here. They serve a nice assortment of drinks which can easily be purchased alcohol free - drinking booze in the afternoon with a burger is so unappetizing. Ginger beer and beer and coke… Very nice staff, a unique and green atmosphere. Literal green. It’s so Southern California- I like it here. And the muSic is not too loud .

The buffalo chicken wrap was delicious and not dry. The happy hour size beef nachos were really good! The poniolo burger was good if your an onion ring person. The garlic fries and sweet potato fries and good. The Cajun chicken salad was great! I loved the olives 🫒 4 guests. 3adults 1child (2y/o) paid $107 plus tax $11 ($118 for dinner)

I was charged $19.24 for a turkey burger and fries and the food wasn’t good at all! The patty was obviously previously frozen and tasted like they added liquid smoke to give it the charbroiled taste effect. They didn’t even fill the fries up to the brim of the bag. When I mentioned this to the employee, she said they “measure it out to 5 oz.” Not worth the price. Definitely my first and last time at this establishment.

Then I ended up having one of the most delicious burgers I’ve ever eaten in LA! Super kind staff, and the salad was very fresh with the most amazing dressing. Look forward to going back!

PB is a quirky and fun restaurant with great burgers and service. I also liked the unique dining room shaped like a mini airplane hangar but with comfortable seating.

I also had a milkshake that was excellent and side of fried cauliflower.

I visited this restaurant because it had a good reputation. It wasnt that special. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, but there were no staff in the eating area, and you couldnt take small orders unless someone came. Salad bowls seem to be more popular in Santa Monica right now. Around $50 for two people including a hamburger, drink, and French fries.

Wow this place was flat out amazing. Some of the best burgers Ive ever had. My friend Jason took me to dinner here Friday night with his wife and we feasted on 4 burgers between the 3 of us and so happy we did. All their burgers are made with organic, grass-fed beef patties that are never frozen and the quality shows up with each bite. I had the Paniolo (smoked cheddar, Niman ranch bacon, Kona coffee bourbon BBQ sauce, beer battered onion rings) and it was amaze-balls, one of the best burgers Ive ever had. I also tried the Kuawa Crunch (cheddar, potato chips, house slaw, and spicy guava rum sauce) and it was also quite delicious, a perfect blend of sweet and spicy flavors. You can also build your own burger, a la the Counter. So you wont be stuck if none of the specials speak to you but I think they will, definitely try them! I cant wait to go back here and am so jealous that Jason can go here whenever he wants! May 25, 2014

Incredible food! Fresh take on burgers with local veggies... New review, 7 yrs later. I ate here on a business trip 7 yrs ago and have been waiting to eat here again ever since. I was not disappointed! Took the family this time and everyone loved it. Burgers are unique, well designed, and well executed. Brussel sprouts are completely awesome. The shakes are legit. We sat on the patio next to the cuisine. By the time we arrived, there were about 3 tables not cleaned, flies everywhere. Had to tell the waitress that we are ready to order. Meanwhile we washed our hands and the toilets were very dirty. The whole place did not scream cleanliness. Food did not take long to be served so waiting time was ok, but the burgers were very disappointing. Meat almost burnt. The burger with Camembert and Fig was simply not edible. The iced tea tasted funny, and the lemonade had black particles flying inside. We asked for ketchup and the waitress literally threw the sauce on the table on small plastic container, same with the lemonade refill. The place was not full so the rush was not excusable for me at least. We heard about the place from a friend and we were very excited but honestly big disappointment and not at all worth the money spent. Never again.

First off the atmosphere was amazing thats honestly the reason I would go back and their chocolate fudge shake. I was underwhelmed with their burger, its good but not amazing. I recommend choosing the classic and building your burger. My friend had mixed feelings about their spicy specialty burger, just felt the spice overpowered the rest of the burger. Overall a good but not amazing experience.

I really likes this place couple of times Ive been before. This time everything was worse. Dry buns, so so burger. Worst possible fries Ive ever seen. Its sad because I want more organic places not less but this is why very few people to these places because sometimes its sad to pay much more to get food you would throw away otherwise

This is our go to burger spot in Santa Monica. The quality of the meat is top notch. Servers are so friendly. And I love the ambiance of little outdoor/indoor metal shack seating area. It s well decorated, and warm. Also, they are dog friendly :-)

for such a lovely spot, simply underwhelming service, perhaps cuz i came towards closing time in February, but Posh burger without any ad ons was unexpectedly small and mostly fluffed up with your typical assorted salad leaves, Strawberry Lemonade was wayyy too sweet, chili fries was really soggy and just not it idk i think i caught them at a below avg day but damn, i think im writing this review to vent the disappointment but also hope this makes them grow because there s a lot of potential

How have I lived here for as long as I have without knowing about this little gastronomical gem. A friend introduced me one night and I was instantly hooked on the place and the Pono burger with the Pono sauce. I m a fan of sweet potato fries and those were quite divine, aioli on the side. We just went back for a casual Sunday lunch as our last food hoorah after Thanksgiving. That LUNCH! Perfection. Highly recommend. Have the spicy marg to go along with it. Light, refreshing, also perfection. Pono appetit!

I would seem we arrived during an off-moment but we weren t greeted for over 15 minutes in the hut , we then moved onto the patio hoping service would be better if we re within eyesight. We only saw our server table side twice the entire time. The service was extremely slow for there only being one other table in the restaurant. The unkempt staff was standing around drinking lattes. The food was cooked to death the burgers were so, so overcooked after asking for them medium. The fries were so shriveled and hollow they were tasteless, and the bun was stale and crumbly. The Oreo shake was great but an extremely small portion as the glass was half full of whipped cream. I ate at Pono burger years ago and was so impressed, I know it s tough out there these days but this time the whole vibe just felt a like it was little abandoned by any type of ownership or management.

Ponos has a lay back and chill vibe. The food is amazing. From burgers and sliders to chicken and garlic fries. More importantly, the service is excellent. We had more than 2 servers come and help us thru out our visit. They also serve beers and some cocktails. Highly recommend

Im always on the hunt for new spots to try during DineLA, and I hit the jackpot with this place near downtown Santa Monica. The restaurant has two seating areas, but we lucked out and got seated in the half pipe architecture section up front. Let me tell you, its like walking into an Instagram post! Sure, most of the plants and flowers are fake, but the setup is so minimalistic with a big sofa that its just a cool place to chill. Now, lets talk about those stacked burgers. You literally need both hands to take a bite. And the fries? To die for. They come with these flavorful sauces that take them to the next level. Oh, and even though we were sitting outside, our friendly waitress checked on us a few times throughout the meal. All in all, Im definitely planning on coming back to this spot soon. Its just too good to pass up!

Nice atmosphere, staff was friendly. I found the lettuce wrap burgers mediocre. Way too greasy. Same with the soaked fries. I guess some people are into that kinda grease. Also they overcharged us $2 for a happy hour chips appetizer, maybe since it was 5 minutes before happy hour started? We didnt address it, just deducted from our tip.

The best part about this place is the cute hanger tent thing setup on the corner. Strangely though, the lights in the tent are on a timer, which expired while we were there. So we and 2 other tables were left sitting in the dark before we realized there was a timer on the wall to turn. Why??? The burger was disappointing. The patty was small (smaller than the bun) and flavorless -- pretty certain they use frozen pre-packed patties. Nothing premium about the meat at all. My posh burger didnt have enough blue cheese... One little mound in the middle only. I actually thought they forgot it and would have asked for more, but the wait staff was a little slow to make rounds to check on us. The seasonal mint chocolate chip shake was delicious. Cute place to check out once. Wont be back.

Absolutely delicious food and great vibes. We were impressed that all of the burgers are organic beef. Their menu is huge, so plenty of options for everyone. The fries are definitely worth ordering. Also make sure you sit inside the structure so you can be one of the cool kids.

I have been here several times and normally have good service. I ate there yesterday during my lunch break and although the burger tasted very good and came out quick , I had bad customer service. The young white male server greeted me by saying Hello, Darling, a strange and sexist greeting. Ma m or Miss is a much more appropriate way to greet a woman in a professional setting. Also, the server took way too long to come to my table and take my order. Once I was served my order, he returned 3 times and asked all of the other customers at surrounding tables how they liked their food and if they needed anything, but did not approach me or even look my way once. I was VERY disappointed and did not tip well like I usually do. :(

If there s such a thing as a healthy burger place, this is it in Santa Monica! Our server was super attentive and we were sat and given menus straight away. Restroom was super clean and unexpectedly stylish. We ordered the following with comments to the side: Chili beed nachos: small portion, maybe sloppy if I can say that? Definitely not worth the price of I think $13.50 We got a couple different burgers at least, plain with some cheese. Burgers were delicious and placed on a great bun. All produce was fresh and it was hard to not dream of ordering another! Cajun Chx Salad: good, fresh, kinda stingy on the Chx proportions given.. The fries were great. True shoestring fries with a snazzy side dressing, like some type of aioli that made me eat everyone else s fries! Also ordered the chx tenders which were good but a really small portion. They had a handful of beer and ciders, hard kombuchas, and a happy hour from 3-6p daily where some drinks were $5 vs the regular @ $7. Totally liked this place and will definitely be back to try some more things. I saw some things on the menu like a salmon burger and some other things that seemed to be quasi-fusion-food with Asian flavors (ponzu sauce for instance on one of them burgers). Try it out, everyone is super nice here. You won t be sorry!

Went here trying to eat healthy, but wasnt able to place an order. I noticed I was just waiting to place an order someone else walks in gets greeting right away. Maybe because Im black but no worries I WILL NEVER COME BACK. I go where Im celebrated not tolerated. To employees quit staring and help ALL customers no matter their race. The store wasnt even that busy, however you got lady doing everything while other employees stare.

Nice clean place situated on the corner . Open airy 2 structures friendly helpful staff. 1st time here had classic burger and onion rings and Some sweet potatoe fries. Food was juicy and good tasting, sweet potatoes fried strings not the easiest to eat in shoe strings ,messy. Onion rings were great sadly u get like 5 .. for value so so. This area for a visitor I guess it is priced accordingly. Good atmosphere nice meal choices. Parking: Street parking and easy access as its corner location. Wheelchair accessibility: Parking on street didnt notice any handicap availability. At least near front of entrance.

My wife I stumbled upon this restaurant today, and I have to say that the the food and hospitality was great!!! Our waiter, Francis, was very friendly and prompt!! We never had to flag him down for anything! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal with friendly service!

Unique burgers and sides and great drink choices! Happy hour was a plus. Our server, Francis was great! He was attentive and gave good recommendations. We ate in the barn/garage such a cool vibe in there. Would come back at night.

Absolutely delicious burger with fresh toppings! The fries were also hot, fresh, crispy, and tasty! The fried cauliflower was unique and tasty! The staff was so helpful and patient. (The female staff helped me post on Instagram so I could get the fries for free!). The decor is so cute and inviting! What a cute, pleasant place to grab a bite and meet friends! It s far enough away from the chaos of the pier area and has parking along streets.

I always get the Piku Burger and Fries to go its super delicious. The jam on the burger is especially good. Also, the fries have a great flavor and seasoning.

This used to be a good place, the waiter never want to take the order when you asked him, is when he want, he look friendly and nice because he need the tip, but also the owner never hear for any complain. I used to be a regular customer one per week or twice. Good burgers bad service.

Excellent, burger. All the ingredients were very fresh. we got the classic Burger with aged cheddar and roast jalapenos. Excellent presentation and the bun was perfect. The only thing I would say, is just a pinch more salt on the meat. But I highly recommend coming here.

I was so excited to try this place out, food on menu seemed so healthy. So glad I did, my husband got a classic burger I got a salad that was amazing oh lastly the strawberry lemonade was the bomb !!

The best strawberry shake! Indoor seating within the signature Quonset hut has great ventilation and the outdoor patio has a nice ambience. Great flavors with all of the food, whether starters or burgers, and all are enhanced by their sauces.

I decided on takeout with this first time order: Posh burger, pommes frites and the house made lemonade. All was tasty! Burger cooked as requested, everything was fresh. When I went in to pick up my order I was met with friendly staff and asked to wait for the pommes frites to finish their frying and seasoning. While waiting I looked around a bit, the seating inside and out had a nice atmosphere. Definitely want to come back for the dining in experience, would be great during the day with the warmth of the sun!

So disappointing..cannot understand how they are still in business...or better to ask ,WHY? There is absolutely NO reason to eat here..and THEY were out of the ONLY vegetarian item on the menu. 20 better places to eat within 5 minutes walk. First time...last time!

The food is AMAZING- best burger joint in santa monica. But the Manager needs to be fired. They messed up my order for a gluten free bun and when I kindly brought it up to them. The manager rudely told me that it was my fault ( after one of the other kind employees took responsibility) and stated that it wasnt a big deal because my girlfriend wasnt in the hospital . Idk who gave this lady a job, but everything else about pono is the best! She ruined the chill vibe!

Food and service are always good, but be forewarned ordering though a food delivery app. Ive tried ordering through different apps twice and after the payment processes, the order is canceled and I get notified, The restaurant cant accept orders (when they are open and accepting). Both times the restaurant had my order ticket and couldnt explain why it was canceled.
