Benny's Tacos & Rotisserie Chicken in Santa Monica

Visiting from out of town and walked by Benny’s. I was sold on the fresh tortillas. I walked in and asked the most popular burrito. They chose the most expensive. A clear sign of no real customer service. Long wait and when it was done they put it in the pick up cart instead of asking me if it was mine. I got to my hotel and opened it up. It was completely falling apart and the meat was al pastor instead of carnitas. Lastly, it did not taste good at all. Totally disappointing.

Don’t usually write reviews, but this is the second time Bennys has messed up my orders. First time, I gave them a multiple calls to ask them to remake or for a refund, but they were busy so I left a voicemail asking for them to call back or make a note on my account - never got a response.

This time I ordered a Tostada bowl with Al pastor and extra grilled chicken, no sour cream. They made it with sour cream so I took it back and they remade it - however, the one they remade was at least 40% smaller than the one they originally gave me, so I dug through it a bit and saw that they didn’t give me extra meat, they just gave a bit of both. I took it back again and mentioned this, to which they said that they did add extra meat. They literally made it right the first time (other than adding sour cream) but I can only assume they were angry I took it back because it clearly did not have extra meat and was smaller overall.

Disappointing that they’d rather lie to my face than correct their mistakes. If you order from here triple check everything they make because there’s a good chance something will be wrong, but be warned they won’t like you for it.

Great value. The Nachos are for most people 2 meals in 1. Flavors are above average, service is great. Small covered patio for dinning and a few tables on the sidewalk as well

California burrito is one of the best in LA. Not many that compare to San Diego level but this is up there. They’ve also got delicious Pastor tacos and everything comes with chips and salsa. The salsa is tasty. Good outdoor seating also.

I recently had the Surf & Turf Burrito, and while the food was generally good, I was disappointed with the quality of the beef steak. Unfortunately, the steak was too fatty and tough, and I had to chew and discard most of it. I don't mind paying a reasonable price for a meal, but I expect better quality ingredients.

Aside from the issue with the steak, everything else was decent. I hope my feedback is acknowledged and taken into consideration to improve the quality of the beef used in their dishes.

Good spot for chicken tacos and burritos with unassuming and good outdoor seating.

First time here and feel like I didn’t order the right thing (California burrito). It was good but far from great.

My main issue was the distribution of the burrito. The bottom was filled with mostly sour cream and a few french fries.

Value was OK at around $16 all in for a large sized burrito.

I did a phone order and the guy told me it would be about 20-30min so I said that s fine I show up around the 30min mark, and he says it s going to be another 5-10 min but they ended up making me wait another 30min..! The green salsa of the enchiladas verdes was salty and had extra vinegar. The beans were so so and the rice below average as it lacked flavor. The portions were generous but I ended eating only half of the enchiladas due to the salsa mentioned above.The red salsa of the chips soso and the red salsa for the chips ok.

Update: on multiple occasions now theyve failed to include parts of my online order such as guac and chips so unfortunately I have to dock a star even though the food is amazing. Their ticketing system also has messed up multiple times and not received my online order. The wet burrito is MASSIVE. Great quality and quantity to price ratio. The barbacoa enchilada is also very good. Shrimp quesadilla is fire. Quick takeout.

dont order to-go at the counter. not really anywhere to wait and hear your name for your order. ordered a shrimp burrito, waited for 20 minutes, the shrimp was burnt and rubbery. guessing they forgot it on the grill. pretty disappointing.

Third update: back to 1 star. Got my order totally wrong and then argued over the accuracy of my receipt even after I showed them. Horrible at night. The closer to close, the worst they are Second update: back to 5 stars!!! This was a 5-star, until they answered phone 20 mins before closing to say they won t take anymore orders. Food is still good, but be wary you won t be able to put in orders realistically past 9:30 Benny s is consistently good. The carnitas tacos, al pastor tacos, and burritos are all incredible. Very big fan of the surf & turf burrito and the California burrito as well. Have never had an order go wrong here. This place has be ome garbage . Will not accept a phone order, then my online order somehow went to Culver city location. When I arrived at SM made me wait 20 minutes while my order was supposedly coming. To then be told I was SOL unless I drove to Culver City. Wont catch me here ever again.

The food here is far too inconsistent for me to recommend it really the burritos can be fantastic but they also are mediocre. The only saving grace I would say is that the portion sizes are always massive. The quesadilla was ok but it was handed to me it was already soaking wet from the grease. And the tacos are way too small for the price. The best thing to get is the carnitas burrito thats the best bang for your buck. The nachos are fine but really its not worth getting.

Look, I m a huge Benny s fan. This is a biased review. I love their tostada salads, I love their burritos, I love their fries. As a vegetarian, I get the veggie tostada salad which is the best bang for your buck, and the flavors and salsas are delicious. Make a pit stop here day or night, and find your next favorite Mexican fast casual restaurant. Vegetarian options: As a veggie boy, I wish there were more options. As a fan of Mexican/TexMex, I enjoy the grilled veggies and beans enough to keep coming back Parking: There are maybe 5-8 spots in the back, the rest will be paid meters on the street.

My girlfriend and I order from here quite often. I wish I could give a review of all of their food but I can t seem to get past the nachos. They ve got chicken, chipotle, chicken, Carnitas, Al Pastor. I mean, OMG. I wanted to try other food but by the time I finished trying all the nachos. I just started back over. I highly recommend the nachos. -Side note- Blue Moon pairs quite nicely with Carnitas Vegetarian options: I think vegetarians are weird, but my girlfriend is vegetarian and she seems really happy every we order from there. She generally orders the quesadilla with veggies.

We went for dinner on a Sunday in June, with my husband and teenage daughters, (we were traveling and staying in Santa Monica). Very delicious food, generous portions and the most affordable price since we are in the USA. It does not have an indoor dining room (or it did not have one at that time) but outside It had a very nice covered terrace. There were some families and a couple of couples having dinner. Highly recommended. We went by car.

It was all just so-so. Is there such thing as too much cheese in a quesadilla? If there is, this is it. Felt like each bite went straight for my arteries. It is sizable; definitely a meal on its own. Ordered a taco as well. The tortilla was definitely the best part. Came during the lunch rush. Waited 20 minutes to get my food. Definitely a problem. The most disappointing part was the lack of any customer restroom. Id expect that from a little whole in the wall in some derelict strip mall. But this place not only has parking, it has enough tables and chairs to seat like 70 people. You cant encourage that many people to eat there and not have a restroom. One and done.

We discovered this gem by accident. Took the wrong exit after flying in from Chicago. We were hungry, so we just decided to find almost anything to eat. The cute outdoor patio got our attention. We ordered a burrito (al pastor), tacos (barbacoa), and 2 taco bowl (1 chicken, 1 veggie). Every dish was flavorful and tasted fresh. The serve was also top notch. If I am ever back in this area, I will definitely plan to stop by.

I met a friend from out of town who was visiting, and we had yet to go to Bennys. It is only outside, sitting on a walk-up level and the sidewalk. The menu has a bit of everything. We were hungry, and it all sounded good. As we walked up, we could see the rotisserie chicken up front. We started with the Chips & Guacamole, which came with red & green salsa. I ordered Bennys 2 Taco Plate with 2 Tacos, served with a Side of Spanish Rice and a Choice of Beans, Guacamole, & Chips for $10.95. I picked the Rotisserie Chicken and Carne Asada. The price is reasonable for the amount of food you get. I was full when I was done and forgot to order dessert. I wanted the salsas to be a bit hotter, but they did have a good flavor. I would go back to try the caldo (soups); my friend had the Homemade Mexican Chicken Soup - a Hearty Bowl of Chicken Soup (1qt) with Whole Chicken, Fresh Veggies, and Potatoes, served with a side of Spanish Rice & Choice of Tortillas.

I usually like this place but tonight was different. I ordered nachos and they came burnt without any toppings. Not a huge deal, but when I called to resolve the issue, they put me on hold for 20 minutes, hung up and I had to call back two more times - w 20 min wait times again. Monster portions and the price is solid. Pico de Gallo is fresh and the fish for the fish tacos were grilled and fried just right. Huge pieces of avocado on the tacos too. Nice variety of dips. The chips with guac on the side was nice too.

Went to Bennys for lunch and was so disappointed with the service! The employees are rude and when I asked to use the restroom they said NO! we don t have one. Clearly they do. Will not be going back. Food was just ok and expensive

Everything was actually pretty good..... Until I got to the rotisserie chicken taco. Was so excited for it with the pickled onions, radish and giant leaves of cilantro. I could even get past that I had to take out the stems of the cilantro. Whatever. Took a giant bite and..... Tendons and BONE was all I got. Ive NEVER had chicken bones in my tacos. Definitely scarred and couldnt even finish it.

Loved this place while I was on the Westside. Quick and good to go mexican food. They also have an outdoor covered dining area that overlooks Santa Monica Blvd which is nice if you are coming in for a quick bite.. Was nice to visit again while out that way. Plus they still have great food! The cashier was sooo amazing to the customers! Very friendly and attentive. Food came out quickly and staff is hardworking to get orders out to customers. Parking: They have parking in the back via alleyway but can be full at their busiest hours. They apparently also have talking cameras back there too. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrances as well as parking located off the alleyway.

Dont bother not worth it. Many psositve reviews expected better quality. I ordered the Two taco al pastor plate to go. It doesnt even come in a plate all items were in separate containers and al pastor tastes more like chicken than pork not sure what meat it is. Not worth the price.

Good Mexican food for the price. Located on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica, I got the Red Chicken Enchiladas platter that came with rice and pinto or black beans (I got the pinto beans). When you order, they give you a number and you find a table. Bennys was clean and the tables were cleared of dishes from previous customers. I love this place, but seeing that the steak and eggs burrito (among other things) is now 88% more expensive than it was 6 years ago without a corresponding increase in consistency/quality (it was falling apart last time) means I cant elevate it to 5* anymore.

No frills, great food. My wife is from the area and we were in town and wanted burritos so she took me here. Our burritos were simple - rice, beans, meat and some cheese; the flavors were on point, the burritos were loaded with meat and the prices were good. Definitely not a fancy place, or a place youre really going to take a family for a night out, but its certainly a place to grab dinner for the family on the way home, or just to stuff your face with a yummy burrito if you need a bite.

Burrito was overfilled with mediocre rice, asada was more like a garnish than main ingredient. Meat was not very flavorful. Simply a huge burrito that was unsatisfying. This place does not deserve its high rating if the one and only time I ve been there is any indication. All of the restaurants I ve been to repeatedly over decades that serve similar food have never had even one bad day. Way too expensive to be disappointing.

I love Benny s but in the last two months, I ve gotten the wrong beans twice in my burrito. Also The time before last, I got zero avocado in my avocado supreme burrito. Today I waited over 30mins for a single avocado supreme burrito. They lost the ticket I guess. When I got the burrito, I thought they forgot the avocado (they advertise a full avocado per burrito). I went through half of my burrito with no bites of avocado. I opened it up to find a little scoop at the very bottom. I love this place but it s been a rough few weeks for my orders.

A serviceable meal. I had a physical therapy class next door and after working out I grabbed a meal here. I had the chicken tostada bowl and maybe due to my possibly unorthodox eating style at the time my bowl ended up looking like a food court from an 80s mall had collapsed in on itself. I think I heard Cyndi Laupner playing in the background. The patio was something akin to a debtors prison.

I really like the chicken soup. However, when we ordered they told us it would be 10 minutes. 20 minutes later, we got a text the food was ready, but it seemed like they forgot to start the soup, because it was another 10 minutes. I highly recommend this place! Definitely some of the best Mexican food in LA. The restaurant is definitely on the pricier side but the burritos are massive and the portions overall are massive too. I really enjoy the surf and turf burrito and their horchata is delicious. I have also heard their chicken is out of this world too. If you are in the area, definitely stop by. You will not regret it. Parking: They have a small lot with a few spaces and there is usually a good amount of street parking available.

What a deception Ive had. Ive ordered the California Burrito that Ive always ordered. The first time after the pandemic, the price increased sharply, they removed the guacamole from the burrito, and reduced the protein quantity inside. I dont see the point to increase 50% the price and take ingredients from it. This is the recipe for bankruptcy.

Its becoming one of my fav Mexican restaurants for lunch. Good food, but hard to find parking on peak lunch hours. You may have to pay $1 or 2 more for metered street parking. The first time, we had the steak and shrimp burrito. It was very good, but for the price, I prefer another place on Sawtelle. This time, i just ordered w shrimp tacos. The shrimp was nicely grilled and had an excellent flavor. I would get them again. They have 4 or 5 free parking spots in the back. Good luck. They have ample outdoor and side patio (hidden) seating. Parking: They have 4 or 5 free spots in the back. Otherwise metered street parking is $0.25 for 12 min. So youll pay another $1 or 2 for parking.

Ordered the burrito with dark meat chicken, a California burrito with carne asada, a quesadilla with marinated red chicken, and a couple Al pastor tacos. Both burritos were not that flavorful, had a weird off taste, almost fishy at times, and were way below par. The quesadilla was just sopping wet and borderline unbeatable, and the tacos were good. I eat a ton of Mexican food - this made me and my girlfriends stomachs upset in addition to all that.

This place serves good food at a great value point. One dish that really stands out is their chicken soup... they present it so beautifully that its as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the stomach and soul!

The stuff was very racist towards me, and quite frankly rude. I wasn t greeted I felt rushed and discriminated against the food was awful on top of this my tacos locked flavor and Woodburn. I also ordered a breakfast burrito and the tater tots were completely over cooked. They were basically rock hard. On top of that experience they rushed me out before I closed. The worst place ever. Do not recommend

Bennys was a great spot for some tacos. The Al pastor was amazing, and the rotisserie chicken is very tender and juicy. The green salsa was fantastic and the Jamaica was delicious (hate it when its too sweet). Its on a busy street but there was parking available and its elevated so if you sit and eat you can watch the street bussle by. Small place but a great quick spot for some tacos.

I ordered from Uber and I have been using Bennys Taco in the last 15 years however, Max the manager had a bit of attitude. I called first to ask why we didnt get the regular chips and salsa and his answer was that this is owner instructions not to comp chips and salsa anymore. Then I found out that they forgot to deliver an order of churros and even he didnt know that Uber have a deal that if you order one you get one free however, he stated that he didnt know about it and he will talk to the owner. Dear Alex, I believe you should let the owner manage his restaurant since everything goes wrong you blame it on the owner. My opinion if it matters, this is a very poor managerial skills.
