Sunset Cantina
☀️🪼❤️😎 I love this place!!!
Amazing Food, Breathtaking Views!
Maria Sol Sunset Cantina on the Santa Monica Pier is an absolute gem! Not only is the location perfect for taking in the stunning sunset views, but the food is also fantastic. The chips and salsa here are hands down the best I’ve ever had—so fresh and flavorful!
The rest of the menu is equally delicious, with a great variety of dishes that are sure to please. The laid-back atmosphere, combined with the ocean breeze and panoramic views of the sunset, makes it a perfect spot for a memorable dining experience. I highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Santa Monica!

Overall, very disappointing.
You know those places where you should listen to your gut? Very much here. Due to the location we thought we'd try out the food and I can honestly say it's some of the blandest food we've ever had. Entirely sure the steaks were cooked in the microwave, we questioned this with the waiter. The waiter was a nice guy, just didn't seem to excited to be working or helping people. My friends food was sent back as it wasn't cooked right and then when it came back all of the food was bubbling (microwave) which basically confirmed out suspicions. No seasoning were used anywhere, food took all of about 3 minutes to cook which was a very bad sign.

Came for dinner on a Monday. Not crowded at all, no wait time. Amicable staff, quick service. You defintely are paying for the view, not so much the food. Fish was very dry but the sauce and season were good, as well as the side serving of the esquites/corn. Drinks were okay, nkthinf special. Fairly limited menu for food and drinks but overall good experience. Ambiance is great for those who like to eat by the Sea.

What you envision a pierside experience to be like, and then you get disappointed.
Look, service was fantastic. Our waiter was warm, polite, calm, and made a lot of recommendations. But in the end it's the food that disappointed. But not entirely.
Coconut shrimp - 8/10
Great flavor, texture and crunch. One of the best I've had.
Fried calamari - 7/10
Good taste, just felt a bit cheap compared to maybe a high end restaurant. Still crunchy and the Chipotle mayo dip was a great.
Fish tacos - 3/10
All the right ingredients, great portion, but absolutely no flavor. And to serve fish tacos without any sort of hot sauce is blasphemy. Then to ask for it, and get a weird watered down salsa sauce made it even worse.
Side salad - 2/10
Was served raw with no sauce, then a side of ranch added to it. Come on, it's salad, If you're messing this up, something is inherently wrong.
We ordered 2 beers, and one of them was wrong, but they fixed it.
All in all, an expensive lunch experience for mediocre food. So it was disappointing. If the coconut shrimp wasn't as good, this would have been a 2 star at best.

The location is the biggest plus point of this restaurant. Located at the very end of the Santa Monica Pier 66 this place is a nice area to relax and have a drink.
Although it was a bit crowded and that’s why we didn’t get exactly the patio spot we were hoping for but in no way was it bad.
We orders the following items and they were of good taste, quality, portion and seemingly reasonable price:
Grilled Chicken Nachos - $20.95
Coconut Shrimp - $16.95
Spicy Jalapeño Cocktail - $17.95
Baja Mojito - $14.95
I would recommend everyone to try this place if they are around.

Place was fine, food was great, but the staff was subpar. Could not give a straight answer out of the host whether there was upstairs sitting there or not, even though we asked three times. I’m sure the staff will do better next time so we can change this to five Stars.

Its a great Mexican restaurant in Santa Monica! Enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine in a stylish atmosphere. Particularly recommended are tacos, guacamole, and margaritas. The dishes are made with fresh ingredients and are both delicious and look great! The staff is friendly and the space is cozy, perfect for when you want to enjoy a leisurely meal. There is also terrace seating, so on sunny days you can enjoy the view of Santa Monica while eating outside. Be sure to visit with your friends and family!

Great Mexican Food at a touristique place. I was with a Low expectation but it turned out to be very good. The Back pátio is great. Nachos with Carne Assada was delicious. The traditional Margaritas as well.

Surprisingly pretty good for an obvious tourist trap kind of spot! The shredded beef enchiladas were solid and the chips and salsa were really good. That said at the tourist prices they charge, you want a little more than solid and pretty good. Kid-friendliness: Decent kids menu, if overpriced.

I use to love coming here. Prices are way up. Service is crappy now. They stop serving free chips and salsa. My usual was a disappointment. I use to live this place. I m sad that it is going down hill. Bring back salsa and chips. Get better service and do better if your charging $30 + for plates.

Well, what should you expect? To put it bluntly, it is a mass processing of hungry tourists. You dont pay the high price for the quality but for the location.

This restaurant is conveniently located at the tip of Santa Monica Beach. The nachos are like appetizers and are served as soon as you sit down. There was no price included, so it was free. The Mexican food was also delicious. The kids menu was also good. The price seemed reasonable considering the location. I would like to visit again. I visited again in September 2024. Then the free chips were gone. Cider refills can also be filled with water. It was very disappointing. . .

Friendly service. Was very tasty and cool atmosphere on the pier. Enjoyed the sunset very relaxed with sangria and delicious food. Even when it got a little colder it wasnt a problem because there were heating lights and heat lamps spread out. My portion was actually too big for me, but it was so tasty that I ate it all. So if youre hungry at the pier near Santa Monica, you should definitely stop by and want some real Mexican food at a reasonable price.

Fun place in the end of the Santa Monica Pier but the food is not great. The ceviche was probably the best item on the menu. Nachos were good. The cheese enchiladas however taste like a pre made microwave dish and the sauce we swear was just spaghetti Os sauce without the Os. The salmon was burnt and drier than sawdust. The beer battered shrimp tacos were mostly batter and extremely sweet like a smore. For the price..... Its a definite pass. Authentic street Mexican is always better than anything you will find here. Disappointing and expensive unfortunately. Spend your money elsewhere.

I went in because it seemed the most quiet place to have dinner in Santa Monica, which is why there were no customers. This is my first time eating such delicious Mexican food... ..all 3 types were not tasty so I had more than half left over. Resort destinations in the Philippines are also more delicious than here.

Everyone in the group enjoyed their food. The complimentary chips and salsa were standard quality. The margaritas are HUGE but dont expect that treatment with other drinks. The mint mojitos were small in comparison, and the mint used was spearmint, not mojito mint (a substitution understandable in bars with spearmint cocktails, but strange when mojitos are the only mint option). - one star for the one grumpy woman who greeted our party at the beginning. Everyone else was very nice. another star because we asked for water three times, and no water was EVER brought to our table. We were at the beach in the summer, needing hydration. It should be customary to check on guests with a pitcher in hand. Atmosphere is if course why you should come here. There was a live jazz cover band while we were eating, a gorgeous sunset, and the smell of the ocean. The prices were decent, I paid 42.50 tips included for fish tacos and a mojito. For parking I suggest S+P parking a block north, I think it is parking garage 8. Parking: For parking I suggest S+P parking a block north, I think it is parking garage 8. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp leading into indoor seating and tables and chairs. Obviously, the peer is a bit of a bumpy ride with many crowds obstructing traffic, and this is at the very end of all that mayhem.

Ive been to this restaurant at least five times. Some experiences are okay and some are great. The prices are about the same as any high and restaurant The food is decent and good for a Mexican affair. I had the Baja salmon burrito and my friend had the lobster tacos at the last dining. I love their guacamole that they make when they come to the table and their chips and salsa are good too even though they charge you for those. I will definitely be coming again if Im in the mood for Mexican by the pier for the scenery is really nice they always place us close to the Western tip of the pair which is always nice to see.

We normally come here, when we come for a business trip or vacation. After our last visit this will be the last time. Servicer was amazing, but half of what we order wasn t correct, and we were charged for extra things we didn t order. I respectfully, called in to inform them about the extra charge. The woman that answered the phone was disrespectful! She told me get to the point, you re wasting my time I told her then please give the phone to the supervisor. Turns out that she s the supervisor! So to get to THE POINT, she s very rude, not educated, has no customer service skills and obviously can t handle little problems correctly. Thank you, for showing how much customers matter to you miss! This makes our decision on not returning anymore easy!

If you re a hipster stop reading. You d loath this place, as there are no dumpsters within smelling distance. Also service was good, and hipsters love when locals are rude to them. The atmosphere was great, and even though touristy had a charm. Something else hipsters would not approve of. Loved watching sunset with margaritas, good food, great service. Food was as good or on par with any decent restaurant. Margaritas were tasteful and strong enough. Wish they carried mezcal but I m a lil different in drinking taste. Overall great experience. If you are a food snob you already know to avoid touristy destinations. I can be, but for what this was, it wasn t bad, and the ambience was good.

Yesterday, my wife, my sister and I threw a surprise 90th birthday party for our mom in the event room upstairs at Maria Sol. Our choice of the restaurant was based largely on the location being perfect. Today I can tell you that everything else about the party was perfect as well. From the initial planning to the conclusion of the night, Maria Sol s event manager Lisa and our server Ignacio, shepherded us is through a huge success (and special thanks to restaurant manager Julio for guiding mom into the trap). Nothing was overlooked, from offering ice water to new arrivals, to the delicious buffet, to the final Champaign toast. When you book a catered affair, the dream is to not have to supervise the party, but to attend it. And that s just what we were able to do! We never stressed or had to solve an issue; we were just three more guests (okay, we did have to observe our schedule a little bit, but still ). If you re reading restaurant reviews because you re trying to find a venue for a relatively informal event (it is on a pier, after all), you should start your search at Maria Sol.

The attention is pretty bad! You havent finished the last bite and theyre already running away from you. They dont give you the opportunity to want to order something else and this happens with Hispanic customers because at another table there were blondes and whites who had been sitting for a long time and they werent treated the same! I will never eat at this place again in my life until their service improves and they treat all customers equally.

My husband and I read the reviews prior to coming and decided to roll the dice and take a chance! First, we ordered our drinks and waited over 20 minutes to get them, they were watered down at that point. In that same time, we saw our sever at least 6 times but did not ask us if we were ready to order. A solid 30 minutes of waiting, our food order is taken: I indulged in the Mexican bowl, my husband the wet burrito - with chips and salsa as an appetizer. Salsa is okay, nothing to write home about. The bowl was decent, highly highly did not like it came pre-made?! Like you cannot remove peppers, because it s pre-mixed The wet burrito was okay - salsa on top was not the best. All in all, the view is gorgeous, even on a foggy evening: the food is decent, don t expect high quality, the service was awful!

The place of the restaurant is nice. Its near the ocean which is enjoyable to look at while you eat. Service was pretty good overall as well. However, the food on the other hand was just sad. It had near to no flavor at all, and was just too simple. Even the salsa for the chips was bad, it was just spice with yet again no actual flavor to it. Based on the amount of stars this has, Id say this place is overrated

I dont even know how to start. Probably best thing was the view And I would say the service which was overall decent, the food was flavor less. We star with some drinks mango margarita, was ok,michela was lame. I order the tostatada de Camaron, calamary, clam chowder, mojarra frita and the camarones al mojo de ajo. Nothing was seasoning . Even the salsa for chips and salsa was bad

Great service! However, the food and mixed drinks are mediocre. We thought we would upgrade our taco selection to the lobster tacos for $28. each. We ordered two orders. What we received was not a taco but more like an opened faced cheese quesadilla with a block of melted white cheese and then they stuck the lobster on top of the cheese with no shredded lettuce/cabbage ...It was so gross what a waste of good lobster. It got lost in a 1/2 layer of melted cheese. So disappointed something in this price range was so poorly done. All of the other tacos looked like regular tacos with shredded lettuce, etc but the most expensive were the worst.

Only reviewing the service since i did not get to dine in. Memorial day was somewhat busy but the staff seemed so flustered. I asked for a table outside, it was full and they sent my party to go search if i could find a table (arent we supposed to wait to be seated). There was nothing so we informed the staff at the front. They seemed really stressed and confused when all we were asking was when there would be a table available. An older woman (manager?) came outside to say theres no tables available in a sort of annoyed tone. We werent giving any sort of attitude or problems to warrant the reaction, we just wanted some clarity. There seems to be a lack of organization and leadership problems if they cant even say hey sorry about that theres no tables available but you can wait x minutes for a table. The services was so off-putting we decided to dine elsewhere. I almost feel bad for the staff as they were obviously are lacking direction from their leadership staff

We were on the pier and this place looked great. We checked out the menu and saw it had pretty good options. I ordered a cup of soup and a salad. The food came out and they had brought a bowl of soup. It was around 18 dollars so I let them know I only ordered a cup. I was completely finished with my salad before they brought out the cup of soup. It was very good though! I am having surgery this week and have to do liquids for 2 days so I asked the manager if I could purchase just a bowl of the broth. He said yes but he wouldn t cut the cost. He said it would be a large container though. I agreed. They brought it out around 15 mins later and we left. I got back to my hotel and looked in the container and it was only half full. Very very disappointing to spend that much money on about 2 cups of broth. They should be ashamed. The service was subpar at best. The server took at least 15 mins to bring us our waters. Food took a while and 15 minutes after we pay to bring the broth to go.

Watery shrimp cocktail, more water than anything else. The waitress said it was an appetizer but it was actually one of the favorites on the menu. My family liked the mojarra, but the cocktail went very poorly for me.

Had the boardwalk enchiladas rice and beans. Great flavor I ate everything. Chips and salsa were also good. The fried fish was very tasty too.

Perfectly positioned at the end of the pier.. bar and quick mexican food. Was it the best food?.. it was ok... and it was perfect with that sunsetting view! The never ending chips and salsa were delicious...A plate of nachos and fajitas worked better than the burritos . The Margaritas were excellent!

Last time we went was in September. And coming back here, we love the scenery of the ocean. I highly recommend going to this place whether you dine in or go dine in with family or friends. It is also a perfect place for a romantic date.

We had a very personable server and our margaritas were great, but the food was just okay and I generally got tourist trap vibes.

One of our favorite spots. Sit on the pier, people watch, have some munchies. Service was great, food was just average. I had a cadillac margaritas, and it tasted off.

Came here for lunch and was very disappointed. Always be wary of a restaurant that is peddling you to come in at the door. Although the atmosphere in this place was perfect, the service and food are lacking. We ordered tacos which seemed like they were cooked the day before and reheated. We mentioned it to the waiter and he just grunted at us. Really disappointing. We will not be coming back.

Had the nachos and they were slightly better than I expected. The carne asada was tender and flavorful.

Great place at the end of the pier on a sunny day. Not too expensive for the location, so they arent gouging you just for being on the pier, which is refreshing. Just as refreshing as the sea air. Its quite nice. The margarita is a bit pricey but tasted on point. Nachos were great and filling for a couple. Would recommend for couples visiting the pier.

Great food. Visited right after sunset. Prices surprisingly moderate for the location. You dont have to wait long for one. Find an alternative.

Visited in Nov. on vacation, the food was great. Had the beer shrimp tacos, was so good. Got seated on the patio and it was a dream, if you re visiting definitely ask to see if you can sit on the patio. The parking we got lucky on we searched forever though, and on a whim the lot directly in front of the beach had the cheapest rates. We did go late in the evening but still win.

Our server Max was great. They all do a good job to make sure your experience is a great one. The sunset was beautiful from the pier and although we couldn t see it from our seat the hostess told us to just tell our server and they held our table while we went off

One of the very first places I ever ate at many years ago on the West Coast. Its become a tradition to go to the Santa Monica Pier and eat here on our trips out West. The chicken fajitas are amazing and you cant beat the view at sunset. Make sure you get here before closing and take some time to enjoy one of the best places to eat on the coast.

Was really expecting the food to be top notch.. but it just.. wasnt. I would have been happy with the food just being good but it wasnt. Nothing exciting on the menu, which I can look past, but the food was just bland with 0 flavor. We were also asked to move to a different table to accommodate a larger party after we had already gotten our food.. which was weird and kind of annoying. Paid around $85 for two people, two drinks and two small meals.. way to expensive for what we got.. Chips and salsa werent even good.

Located at the end of Santa Monica pier. Wonderful experience on the sea. Nice Mexican foods and cocktails. Fish tacos and a pina colada were good!! Reasonable price, nice staffs. Parking: Public parking $7.00

Its just a cheap taco place and the prices are not expensive. A drink costs about 7 dollars or almost 10,000 won. However, its a bit messy and they keep forcing me to order. I feel burdened. 3 drinks. I said I was full with just one meal, but he was kind... They say they keep writing it down. There are so many sheep. Its like two people can eat one piece haha. I guess everyone here is a big eater^^;

Parking: You pay to enter and park. Once parked You will need to walk towards the end of the pier. Wheelchair accessibility: They have a ramp

A neat spot for sure, great view. I don t recommend this place though, just go to the end of the pier for the view and eat somewhere else. My menu was sticky, and my beer was $16. Pick one or the other, lol. Don t let my experience drive you away though, give it a shot for yourself.

My son and I visited on New Year s Day after the Rose Bowl game. The pier was crowded but we were able to get a table without a wait (it was an hour before closing.) I have always wanted to visit this restaurant but never had time on previous trips. I ordered Tacos al Carbon and my son ordered a taco salad. He finished mine after eating his. It was his favorite place of our trip! Parking: Parking is limited at the Santa Monica Pier and if it is a busy evening, plan accordingly to wait in a long line for paid lot at the pier. If you use a rideshare make the drop off at a hotel or other place nearby and then walk to the pier.

Good place to escape the hustle of the pier and enjoy some legitimately good food far better than what you would expect from the proximity to the amusement park. Wait staff was super friendly and helpful. Fifth star for fresh chips warm just out of the oven.

We had a group of 16 and they set us quickly, very friendly the drinks are fantastic The fish Tacos are next level. So glad I got them. They have a live lobster tank, we saw someone pick one out and it was huge! The atmosphere is basicly as good as it gets, the sunset on the pier is unbelievable and Im pretty sure it would be the perfect date spot, we was with kids and they all enjoyed it as well, the nachos are huge! Great proportions on all the food and the drinks are pretty stiff which is nice. I highly recommend this spot, plan on spending $20 to $30 per person but they do have a kids menu thats cheaper. They include chips and salsa and they were delicious as well.

Top notch place to enjoy drinks and enjoy the view. We didnt have any drinks, just water. We were seated outdoors as requested. It wasnt a busy time and we were seates immediately. Our server greeted us immediately got our water, chips and salsa immediately. Perfect so far! The Baja Clam Chowder was amazing. Great taste and a large bowl. We loved the red and green tortilla strips on top. We wanted to share the Seafood Enchiladas and requested two of the crab enchiladas instead of one crab and one shrimp because I am alergic to mushrooms. This is where the server rating and food go downhill to a mediocre rating. The server agreed, yet when the food was delivered they brought us the soup and enchiladas together. I didnt even get a chance to try a tortilla chip before they arrived. Too fast, it was though we were being rushed. The seafood enchiladas looked amazing, but not so great in the taste department. Plus we were given the menu description of one shrimp and one crab, even though we requested two crab. We were very disappointed in the enchiladas. The redeeming quality was the chips and salsa, I loved them and the soup.

If you are Latino and you are alone, dont come here. The food is delicious but the service is terrible, at least if you are Latin American. Here I felt discriminated against by Mrs. Maricela G. She and another short, hairless man did serve well another table with people of Anglo-Saxon or European (white) appearance. They only approached my table to ask me for my order and take my food and drink with them. I had asked for ice without ice because it was a cool night. Then they appeared again to take my bill before bringing me another glass of soda when I was waiting and raising my hand. It made me laugh that they didnt leave the tip she expected at the table next door that was well served, and she even made the comment what a stingy man. I would have understood bad service if the place was full but instead it was empty. Mrs. Maricela G was busier getting the cutlery ready. If you are a Latino you might not get good service here. The waiter Maricela G needs to take better care of the customers regardless of their race or ethnicity. She didnt take good care of me a Latino guy but was taking good care of the table next to me because the customers were white. There is no excuse when the place was not even busy.

This place charged me double the price for a double shot margarita. That is, I had 2 cucumber and mint margaritas and they charged me 4. I told them that no one He explained it from Beginning because otherwise I would have left that place once and for all. Really, I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT.

We ate outside here on a Monday night at sunset. The views were beautiful! Service was a little slow but they were nice and I think understaffed. You are close to other tables (outside at least). The food was so great that I forgot to take photos! Parking: It s difficult finding parking near Santa Monica pier

Wonderful spot on the pier for good Mexican food, great drinks. Excellent service, a little pricey, but thats to be expected for a restaurant on the pier. I expected mediocre food, but was pleasantly surprised. I would have liked a little spicier salsa, but it was very flavorful.
