Back on the Beach Cafe

Quaint atmosphere, decent pricing, attentive staff, and of course, great view. There are nearby parking options that are pay to park. Consider going early or be aware that you may have to park and walk just a little bit. also consider attire as outside the floor is sand so it’s a great option to have some thing you can take off so you can feel the sand between your toes.
BUT…People watching platform is on point.
Now for the food…I had the Huevos Rancheros, which unfortunately I do not have a picture of because I inhaled it. It came out hot delivered straight from the kitchen. it had a crunch, a kick and nice creamy sauce along with a whole lot of flavor. I did however capture a glimpse of my slightly watered-down Bloody Mary, which is not how it came, but was because I was not as attentive to it as the staff was of me. My waiter “Eric” did an excellent job attending to multiple tables with a smile on his face- Great attitude.
A variety of foods that would meet most pallets from breakfast to lunch and dinner. Great stop to take it all in. 👌🙌🤘🏼👍👍

Four years ago, we were traveling for a conference, and this place made an impact on me in the middle of the pandemic. Despite the craziness and ridiculous California rules all around the beach. Such as not being able to use a PUBLIC restroom! My sister and I, along with my toddler, drove around what seemed like an eternity looking for a restroom that wasn't closed or that didn't require a reservation from a restaurant. We took so long to find one that we got hungry. We stopped here to try our luck with the bathrooms, and luckily, the restaurant was open and had outdoor seating available. We were overjoyed to find this awesome spot! After relieving ourselves, we excitedly ordered the salmon and burger. They were the best meal we've had in years in the area. We made a vow to come back, and we've been back regularly when in the area ever since. I can't believe I didn't write this review sooner! Thank you to your friendly staff and awesome cooks. Can't wait to be back again.

The restaurant is in a great spot on the beach with tons of stuff to do and see around it and the Santa Monica pier is very close by so it makes for a great day trip but the restaurant itself did not provide very great service and the wait times to be sat and to get our drink and food took a long time, the food not bad however I wish the timeliness was a bit better.

Great atmosphere. Fairly solid food quality. A bit pricey but it's on the beach.

Used to come here with Ken D and get the Fred's Salad. After his passing, now come here with my own family. Love to continue his tradition.

If it weren't for the fact that this place is right on the beach I don't know if it would be as popular. The service is incredibly slow (though the servers are friendly and nice) and they get super overwhelmed easily. Food is decent. Best thing is really that it's right next to Annenberg community center and of course right on the beach.

It wasnt my first time but usually didnt feel like sharing experience as it seems like everyone is happy enough . but today it was different, Young Hostess was polite and sweet , gave 30 mins walk-in wait on Saturday and they sat me on time , greeted by lovely Rona ( if i spelled it right ) , i ordered immediately ( Mushroom burger + Beer ) and received it in less than 15 minutes . Staff is friendly.. over all peaceful, lovely experience..

Fresh delicious meal by the sea! Our effcient kind server Gavin even helped sing Happy Birthday on pitch :) to my dear friend Maribel. She enjoyed the signature Marion Davies salad with a scoop of Tuna Salad I had the crispy flavorful Cafe favorite White Cod Fish sandwich. Great setting especially for locals not during summer vactioners rush. Plenty of parking and nice wooden patio walk out to the ocean. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy ground level flat entry inside and outside.

We love this place and come here often. It is family friendly (the kids love the butter pasta) and the food is good. Would recommend for anyone looking for a casual dinner by the beach with a playground nearby. Kid-friendliness: You can grab a seat next to the childrens playground and enjoy a cocktail with a view while they play.

Perfect oasis for a nice meal on the beach! Casual. My friend and I walked on the beach and on the way home, we stopped in for a meal. It was 9:30am on a Sunday morning, so the wait was just a few minutes. We were given the option to sit inside or outside on the sand and told them, first available. We sat outside and was very happy, however, because this is beach/sand seating, the chairs sink very low! Hahaha! Jason E was are server and he has served us many times. He is attentive, friendly, and polite. I ordered the Fred Salad which is my favorite, ( romaine lettuce, crumble blue cheese, chicken salad, and potatoes. My friend ordered the California omelette. We both loved our food and took half home, only because we dran too much ice tea. There are many similar menu items to the former Back on Broadway restaurant that I loved, which makes it nice. There is a cocktail menu as well! If you dont want to walk down to Back on the Beach, there is a public parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. Thank you Jason E for great service!

Love Back on The Beach Cafe. We always go there for brunch or to have mid day meal when we go to the beach. Outdoor seating in the sand is a great experience. Jason has been our server the past couple of times. He is very nice and attentive. Will definitely be going back.

Great online ordering and take out process! Ordered online from spot on beach and walked over to pick up. Liked the take out tent area they had set up and the employees were great! Got the shrimp tacos (3 for $22) and my mom had the chicken sandwich ($17ish).

You would think LA would have more places to eat with your feet in the sand, but we don t have many! This place is a gem and just far enough from the boardwalk that the beach is calmer and cleaner. Parking: Parking lot is a beach lot. Usually people don t stay parked there too long, so you ll likely catch someone leaving a spot.

The smoked salmon toast is VERY good, and hefty portion. The fruit it comes with is incredibly fresh. I wouldnt recommend the smoothie -- it tasted like fruit juice / corn syrup rather than a freshly blended whole fruit. Doesnt appear to be WiFi.

A great place to hang out for the day! It is right up along the Strand, and also next door to a playground for kids to enjoy. The outdoor seating has a walkway through the sand for parts of it, other parts are on a concrete patio. Worth making a reservation but they do take walk ins as well.

Delicious food, very friendly service from our server (who I wish I could remember his name but I believe it s Dave or David or something like that), and the outdoor seating had a gorgeous view of the beach. If you sit outdoors you will have to walk on sand briefly. There is parking right by it but I believe it s about $6 to park there. I highly recommend the breakfast pasta papa and the scone is a MUST. I m typically not a fan of scones but theirs was absolutely delicious.

We had a lovely brunch on the beach. I loved sitting with my feet in the sand. I loved my fried polenta with eggs, spinach and mushrooms. The service was great! Parking was easy, we paid $6 for 2 hours at the adjacent beach parking lot. Vegetarian options: Veggie choices, delicious mushrooms and spinach with fried polenta and eggs.

The food in this place is amazing and great views if you manage to get a seat outside. We only got a seat indoors unfortunately and it was quite cold and drafty. We were only taking a short break here and only saw our waitress twice, once when taking our order and once to bring us the cheque. We tipped 10% which felt fair based on our experience but the waitress demanded to know the reason for this and made us feel really guilty for not leaving a minimum of 15%. It was a really awkward experience and would put me off ever returning. We are from the UK and understand the different culture in tipping but we felt that 10% was representative of our experience and find it unprofessional to be questioned on this. It was also the last day of our holiday in LA so we were quite disappointed.

A perfect date spot! The food is delicious. The fruit was perfectly ripe, the scones were delicious. We got the pasta papa and the California omelette. Sooo good. The server that works here is a douche. First time here and ordered at the front not knowing any better. Sat outside in the sand area and made me move to the inside even though there are plenty of empty sitting all because I didnt order with him. Essentially kicked me out because hes not going to get tipped even though I tipped the server at the front 20% it doesnt benefit him so I had to go.

Discovered a hair in my salad. Server was apologetic, took it away and asked if I wanted something else. Since I had only taken a few bites, I asked for sweet potato fries. They were very good but the previous incident really killed my appetite so I didnt eat many of them. Bill came and although they did take off the salad, they charged me for the fries. So, sorry not sorry for my gross experience. Will not return.

The waitress asked me at least 5 times what I was ordering even though it was quiet and nobody was around. It was as if she couldn t process the information at all. I ordered freshly squeezed orange juice from the menu just to get a cup of regular Tropicana or something. Nevertheless, I was charged for the freshly squeezed orange juice. When I asked if she could replace it with fresh juice, the waitress said they didn t have it, then called a manager who told me they never make fresh juice, they get it delivered in the morning. So how is it fresh if they supposedly get it delivered? I remember getting freshly squeezed orange juice from them a couple weeks ago without any issue, they made it right in front of me. Now I had to pay $4.50 for some leftover packaged juice. The hotdog was a mere sausage on a bun, no toppings, not even mustard. I paid $16 for this total. What a joke.

We were here on 12/26 for lunch and did not have the experience as expressed by others. The atmosphere was great and it was the reason why we chose to eat here. However the service and food was subpar. We ordered our food around 9:20 and enjoyed the views the place had to offer while we waited. However, as other tables who arrived much later than we did received their food, we never got anything for the next hour. At that point, we were disappointed and upset, and did debate whether or not to just leave. We asked one of the staff if our food was coming out and he did say it would be out shortly. The food we ordered did arrive after an hour and was colder than we expected. We figured it was left in the kitchen for some time. View of the beach was nice but that was all that the place had to offer. Nothing fantastic. We were disappointed because it should have been a better experience.

I recently visited Back on the Beach Cafe, and I must say that I had a mixed experience. The cafe itself, along with the service, was quite impressive, deserving of a solid 4 stars. The atmosphere, with its beachfront location, is truly relaxing, and the staff were attentive and friendly. However, I was somewhat disappointed with the burger and fries I ordered. The burger didnt quite meet my expectations in terms of flavor and texture, and the fries were a bit underwhelming. They didnt have that crispy perfection that I was hoping for in a good plate of fries. Despite the less-than-stellar food, the overall experience at Back on the Beach Cafe was still enjoyable, thanks to the fantastic location and excellent service. If they could improve their burger and fries, this place would easily earn a full 5 stars from me.

Perfect ambiance for sunny late August Sunday brunch. I chose an on the sand res via Open Table which comes with large umbrella which shaded us from ultra-violets. I hadn t enjoyed an in-person reunion with older, difficult sister, bro-in-law, since pre-pandemic. Last live meet, Thanksgiving 2019. My wish was to reignite the connections of fractured family. I chose Back on the Beach as venue. Food, Ambiance, Service: all 6 stars. Shout out to patient waitperson, Rhoda. Consistent check-ins with fam. Rhoda adjusted umbrella, snapped the historic fam together.

This is a fantastic eatery! I was pleasantly surprised every step of the way. Restaurant is on the beach with fantastic views, of course. But it gets better. You can sit inside or outside and when you sit outside, you are literally having a picking on the beach, in the sand. It kept our busy 5 year old occupied! And the food! Everything prepared with only high quality ingredients, no or minimal waste. Food was very creative and tasty and decent portions. The pancakes are huge! Very positive experience and highly recommend!

The food is good not the best like authentic but is good enough to wait. I think is more about the setting that you enjoy while eating outside. I do recommend this place and also to reserve a day ahead unless you are eating inside. Parking is crazy, everyone is waiting for it. Parking is 6 for 2 hours or 12 all day.

I love those restaurant ones. I always go through Back and the Beach before taking the plane back to France. Eat with your feet in the sand and enjoy the Californian sun
