Food was delicious, but nothing mind-blowing, and menu had unique offerings so that was a good change of pace. Ambiance is really nice, especially if the weather is nice out. A bit overpriced but makes for a fun date night.

We had a reservation for 6pm. When we checked in, the host said we would have to be out in 90 minutes. We ordered several dishes and then decided we wanted to put in a couple more plates of food. We ordered and then our waiter showed up with the food packaged in boxes to go. He said we were up on our time and could not eat the food at the table. I understand wanting to move through tables, but this was really frustrating. We werent trying to squeeze into an opening, we had made a reservation in advance. First, I think 90 minutes is too short. The food is good, but the appeal of this spot is the environment. Second, the waiter should have warned us before we spent $100 more on food. We never would have ordered lamb chops to go . Really frustrating outcome to what could have been a great spot. Everyone at our table left with a really bitter taste, much better restaurants in the area.

Cute restaurant, but the food was a miss. Each dish we had was dripping in oil. There was no sear on any dish despite being a grill restaurant. The branzino was filled with bones, which made it nearly impossible to eat. The manager was kind enough to comp the fish, but we will never come back.

Very pretty location but disappointing. Food looked very pretty but lacked flavour (except for the weird micro greens that I m not a fan of) and balance. Cauliflower steak was not a steak but half a head of cauliflower and had zero char. Steak was overdone. Bruschetta was overwhelmed by garlic. Both the red and white wine we had were meh. We also never saw the waitress again after we ordered and had a hard time ordering another drink or dessert.

Casual spot with grilled meats. The overall vibe feels like you re in someone s backyard for a dinner party. Made reservations online in advance and everything is shareable. The meats don t come with any sides so you must mix and match on your own. Free parking lot available. There s table service so you don t need to go up to the counter to order anymore. We split the chicken, rib eye, Branzino, sweet potatoes, and asparagus. I d recommend the chicken and the ribeye. We also got an order of octopus for our appetizer, and there was barely a tentacle in this dish. The ribeye was particularly good and I did like the peanut satay sauce. Everything came adorned with fresh flowers. The sweet potato was hearty though the asparagus was a tad too charred. We had the dome for dessert, which tasted like an ice cream version of Ferraro Rocher. The main detraction was the slow service. The hostess told us that the table time was 90 minutes for our group of three but we ended up being there for over two hours because we rarely saw our waiter. However, he was a nice guy and the overall meal was enjoyable.

Literally 10/10. The vibes are so chill and the staff if so friendly! We got the stuffed peppers, the cauliflower, the beet salad, the yams and the salmon and all of them were SO good. I will say the yams were probably my favorite as the yams are so nicely cooked and the yogurt sauce couldn t have paired better! The salmon was perfectly cooked. No flavor in any plate was overpowering and no plate was underwhelming. Portions are also great, there was two of us and we couldn t finish what we ordered.

Its a very lively place, safe to be in and a safe parking lot. The Branzino was amazing. The other options were plated beautify. Some were overcooked and lacked the finishing flavors. The wine choices are lacking as well, and the beer is bottled. There is one bathroom (clean) for the entire restaurant so plan for a wait. Service was generally good. It feels like controlled chaos in a fun hipster, backyard bbq way. I recommend a reservation but walk-ins are also welcome, come early if you dont have one.

my first dining experience at the original location was pleasant, cozy, and delicious. tonight, i went to their new location and was unfortunately disappointed. my partner and i were excited about getting some veggies, but the mushrooms were tough and old, and the broccolini was grinch green and overcooked. we also got the chicken skewer (take it off the skewer for us please because you dont provide enough napkins for the manual mess) and the branzino was okay; more flashy, than flavorful. le great outdoor is a good idea but the execution and quality control is missing. sorry, no photos.

Save yourself the hassle. This was worse than your friends backyard BBQ. Lamb that was literally butchered by a 5 year old and overcooked, char-broiled raw brussels sprouts, loaded raw sardine burnt crustini, boiled and bland carrots with no grill finish. Such a bummer to leave this review, had a few great meals with decent service. So we had a made a reservation for a special guest in town who we rarely get to see. The night of the reservation we arrived along with a few other partys to find no one onsite with lights all off and no signs describing if and why theyre closed. Seemed odd but we figured all good might just be a power issue or something. So we waited to hear from them next day after reaching out via open table but now its been over 2 weeks and nada. Huge let down considering how much we have spent with them in recent visits and we were hoping to continue to visit for dinner. Do better Le Great management team!

We ordered the goat cheese tartine, brocolletti and salmon at the line up front. The concept of a line to order like a fast food restaurant was not what i expected. It came out to 70 dollars and tip was part of the experience. To be honest, I always tip 20 percent but this time, truthfully felt like I should have tipped 10 percent. The idea of service isn t there really without a person who looks out for you at the table ie water service or simply managing the plates versus the delivery guy just putting it on the side table without any care. Also, the 15 dollars for 4 pieces of slightly stale toast with goat cheese spread, and honey was highway robbery . The broccolini bottoms weren t removed so it wasn t really that clean. Lastly, the whole experience was such a turn off that we finished our small portions of food and went down to grab Mediterranean to go. As a New York diner and now in LA, I would be unable to recommend this place to anyone and do not see going back until changes are made.

I was looking for a quiet. simple lunch at the reliable bergamot cafe but found Le great outdoor had taken over the space. I ordered a ham sandwich. The bread was perfect but the sandwich was not good. It had enough ingredients for two sandwiches and too much overpowering ailoli and competing ingredients. I tried to disassemble the sandwich and scrape some of it off and leave off an overabundance of sundried tomatoes. The result was middling. Free chips were a nice touch and the coffee was ok. One of the workers on break was watching TV on their phone, which did not help the atmosphere. Most of the formerly spacious patio was taken over by a shuttered outdoor kitchen. Ill skip this restaurant for lunch, but may give it a try for dinner sometime.

This is not a full service restaurant. You find a (wooden and uncomfortable) table and have to go (yourself) to two different spots: one, the bar for beer or wine, and two, to the counter to order your food. If you finish your pre-set bottle of water during your stay, I m not sure even sure what you do. Food was good, at best. Overpriced and small portion for the cost, unless it s a vegetable. The peanut sauce was good. The shrimp skewer was undercooked and blah. There s better bang for your buck and full service elsewhere.

For a restaurant that claims to be all about making sustainable choices and contributing to a sustainable food system, I was pretty shocked to learn that they don t compost (a service provided by the county). Not only is this a shame due to the inevitable food waste, but their signature bowls are served in disposable (ironically, compostable) containers. Please make composting available to your customers outside instead of just trash and recycling! Food was only a 3.5/5 - flavors, seasoning, and acid were off balance.

Everything is cooked fresh outside and you can see the grill. We ordered a few appetizers and each got our own main dish, and would recommend ordering a lot of food to try as many things as possible. I lean towards the meats, and enjoyed the lamb chops, but there are some really good fish options as well Vegetarian options: Have things like broccolini, soups, and sweet potatoes. Many fish options as well

This place is overpriced, underwhelming, and the food is devoid of any real flavor beyond that imparted from the grill itself. Save your money and go to a real friends BBQ instead. Dont let the cool backyard, order at the counter vibe fool you; it is very much a way to skimp on service but still require you to pay way more than you should. My TL;DR story: After an already too long wait time, kitchen mismanaged cooking our rice and other food. Front of house staffer came over to give us two options 1) each the other food thats ready and plain rice separately or 2) wait for rice and other food will be made fresh. Eventually food comes out long after promised, ice cold, with STILL NO RICE. We wait for rice. Rice never comes. Fiance goes to complain to manager, cant find manager. Rice comes out and the manager does us the dishonor of sending a front of house staffer to apologize for the whole thing. We are given two more options 1) wait for a fresh meal and still pay or 2) eat cold meal and get refund. We chose option 2, because have been held prisoner by this sad excuse for a restaurant and are famished. Still no manager. We did end up getting our meal refunded, which was really the bare minimum that couldve been done.

Dining in Style, Feasting on Disappointment at Le Great Outdoors A reservation at Le Great Outdoors comes with a glistening promise of a delightful culinary experience, set amidst an atmosphere buzzing with lively vibes. Unfortunately, obtaining this golden ticket of a reservation was just the prologue to a tale of chaos and culinary disillusionment. VEGANS BEWARE. I embarked on the laborious journey of securing a spot, a process that took me three relentless weeks. The day had finally arrived, and a delay made me call in to inform about a minor 15 minutes tardiness. The response? A brutal, Your reservation is cancelled. The shock made me demand a manager, who benevolently granted a 20-minute hold, yet with a warning of an additional 45-60 minute wait for seating. My final recourse was speaking to the owner, who thankfully adjusted the reservation by 30 minutes. On arrival, a chaotic multi-point payment system awaited one for the wine, another for the food, and amidst this confusing ensemble, service was almost a mythical entity. The wine, ranging from decent to exceptional, seemed like a silver lining in this cumulonimbus of chaos, but the food, unfortunately, tarnished this lone glint of hope. The salmon with chimichurri seemed to have taken a salt bath, the shrimp resembled salt sticks with a rubbery texture, and the rice, oh the rice! Mushy, overly cooked, it had an affinity to walls stronger than any spaghetti. The reasoning? It s steamed, remarked our server, a comment that echoed the ludicrousness of the culinary ordeal. An adventure of returning the rice ensued, where a consoling front desk admitted the inadequacy but offered only free desserts as a band-aid for our culinary wounds. The next order saw minor improvements, with palatable bruschetta and shrimp making an appearance, though my friend s description of the desserts as resembling dog food summed up our gastronomical journey aptly. Yes, the ambiance was electric, kudos to the scenic location, and seemingly the less gastronomically enlightened seem content with the meals here. However, for a culinary connoisseur like myself, revisiting this chaotic, friction-filled cafeteria would be like daring to dance in a minefield. Final Verdict: Le Great Outdoors may dazzle with its eclectic vibes, but its a culinary façade hiding a disarray of disappointing dishes. The joy of the atmospherics is sadly marred by the painful battle to secure a reservation, the chaotic payment system, and the erratic service, not to mention the regrettable encounters with overly salted, overcooked creations. A charming chaos for some, maybe, but a gourmet nightmare for those with a refined palate! Vegetarian options: Very few if any with a menu riddled with spelling errors, lack of clarity and no vegan desserts

Went here for a date with my husband, we are Europeans craving outdoor simple dining and great wine for reasonable pricing and this place hit all the spots! Starting with incredibly friendly stuff and servers, the simple routine of ordering at the cashier and not being bothered too much by the servers yet still being checked time to time was ideal! Atmosphere is really nice, sitting next to open kitchen, seeing our food being made, drinking amazing wine was a blast. Everything is fresh and well made, I ordered delicious branzino, my husband is vegan and he had plenty of options to choose from, his favorite was hummus Tartine and mushrooms, but overall everything was made simple and delicious from good ingredients. Even though it was our first time we felt like we had dinner at our friends backyard somewhere in France, so glad to find this place and would definitely be back. Maybe that s because we didn t try the branzino which seems to be their most popular dish.

Had a fabulous evening with very close friends. A bit far from our normal range but it was worth the drive. The new location is in a very trendy arts district and it does get busy, you may need to search out a space to park. The venue is easily accessible you will need to recognize their process. They have a check-in station and an ordering station right next to each other. Heres how it works you check in, get a menu, and a table number. You sit and review the menu, a server will check on you, and in our case, we were told of an off-menu special. Once you know what you want to go back to the ordering station and place your order. When ready they will run it to your table. I like the process - my suggestion is dont order all your entrees at once. They are fast, so order your appetizers and your go-to entree. Then go back and order more. Its really easy to let your eyes outeat your stomach. We had so much tasty food. All choices are going to taste fabulous. Why not 5 stars? Well, the lamb chops were overcooked. The pies were not warmed before plating. Overall great place, great staff, great food, I am sure we can get the 5th star when we go back.

We re so stoked to have Le Great Outdoor in our neighborhood! The food is incredible - like a farmers market exploded on your table. It s equal parts cool, hip, casual, fancy, low key, and fun. You ll have to see it to believe it. Go here now, LA.

Don t do it. Imagine yourself at a friend s backyard BBQ with waiter service. Then take alway waiter service. But keep the restaurant prices. Had to get up to find more menus. Had ti walk to the counter the counter to order another chicken skewer because we assumed more than 1 came in a order (1 skewer was $15). Had to get up to order our own drinks. And they run out of food, because as we were told, the idea is to run out. So don t make a late reservation. Advice to owners: do this concept but with proper restaurant service or lower the prices since you don t offer service. And don t run out of food.

Fun concept, its a backyard grill and chill with a hip vibe. 3.5*s You order food at the front desk, grab your drinks up the stairs in the coffee shop and head to your designated table. Appetizers come on plates and the grilled food is served family style on trays. Solid flavors, nicer, proper char on the veggies and protein. Food was pretty well cooked but the flavors and dishes wasnt anything ground breaking. Its Santa Monica and its current pricing so the value really isnt there. But its still fun, lovely, and dining outdoors in LA weather just makes things better. Besides dropping off the food, we didnt really have any table service until the very end, which made the experience much better. Blame it on under staffing or the laid back cafeteria-esq style of ordering, but when 20% tip is the lowest option when prepaying Id expect a little more service. Its a good date spot or a place to catch up with friends, worth checking out, however, for the price point there are more interesting fare out there.

We arrived around 9:00 so they were almost closing, I think that affected the service. It was ok. Food was great, specially the lamb and the steak. I will come back for a nice steak. Well cooked and the seasoning was fantastic

I had a reservation for a Sunday a few weeks ago. Made it on OpenTable. I then emailed the owner asking whether I should maybe come another night because I had heard that they sometimes run out of menu items. He responded and said that it wouldnt be a problem. But when we arrived, the restaurant was closed. Another couple drove up a moment later, also with reservations. This was weird, because OpenTable wont allow you to make a reservation for a time when the restaurant is closed. Yet the owner acknowledged my Sunday reservation, and then OpenTable sent out one of those standard are you still coming emails the day before. And Ive now emailed the owner several times, asking what happened. Have you closed completely, or just on Sundays (the website now says that they are closed on Sundays)? No answer. But they are still taking reservations going forward. Youd think the owner would answer, if only to apologize.

Very cool outdoor spot with a ton of heaters. Menu has a lot of great options. The branzino lamb chop were spectacular. They were out of the wild mushrooms and got broccolini instead which was somewhat underwhelming but still very good. The ambiance is top notch and the service is excellent. One of the managers came to our table and talked with us extensively about our meal and the history of the restaurant which was very cool and interesting. Would recommend getting there earlier in the dinner service to get menu items that go quickly.

Nestled within the charming Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, Le Great Outdoor offers a unique dining experience with its pop-up ambiance and delightful outdoor seating. As you approach the restaurant, youre greeted by a grill adorned with fresh ingredients, exuding tantalizing aromas reminiscent of a barbecue at a friends house. However, the flavors you encounter here are far superior, making for an unforgettable dining adventure. One of the highlights of my visit was sharing the albacore stuffed peppers with my mother. These petite peppers acted as the perfect vessel for the delicious albacore tuna, delivering a delightful combination of sweetness, savoriness, and acidity. This appetizer truly set the stage for the rest of our meal and quickly became my favorite dish of the night. For the main course, we opted for the salmon accompanied by roasted oyster mushrooms and grilled asparagus. The expertly cooked salmon showcased the restaurants mastery of grilling techniques, while the earthy flavors of the mushrooms and the freshness of the asparagus provided a perfect complement to the dish. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors and textures, leaving us thoroughly satisfied. The wine list at Le Great Outdoor deserves special mention. It features an array of intriguing selections, with a focus on wines that can both compete with and enhance the smoky flavors imparted by the grill. We chose the Alice, a white wine hailing from Italy. Its fragrant and aromatic characteristics were a delightful accompaniment to our meal, and the wines crippingly acidic nature added a refreshing touch to the overall dining experience. Parking at the restaurant was a breeze, thanks to its convenient location within Bergamot Station. This ensured a hassle-free arrival and added to the overall positive impression of the establishment. In conclusion, Le Great Outdoor delivers a truly delicious dining experience in an inviting outdoor setting. The albacore stuffed peppers and the grilled salmon, complemented by the well-curated wine list, are testaments to the restaurants culinary prowess. Whether youre seeking a memorable meal with loved ones or a unique gastronomic adventure, I highly recommend giving Le Great Outdoor a try.

A very interesting concept. You order your food at the grill and it comes fresh from the fire. Theyre very liberal with the herbs and flavors, but we found some things lacking salt. Otherwise a great experience and well be back as they ran out of brussels sprouts and we really want to try them.

Lovely and lively but calming outdoor atmosphere with great smelling wood smoke from the fire in the air. Great lambrusco and loved the corn and chicken satay skewers. Update after my *4th time visiting- the servers are great people who get to know you and work hard. The goat cheese tartine as a starter is one of the tastiest things to be found in Santa Monica. Wheelchair accessibility: Flat open dining area with some small amounts of crushed granite. Tables in a courtyard or on a second level accessible by a ramped sidewalk.

Overall, this was a lovely experience. The patio has a wonderful atmosphere with flower arrangements, live foliage, and the scent of honeysuckle taking turns wafting over to you with the smoke of the open grill. The old building next door and the patio create a little world away from all the traffic, noise, and general ugliness of LA. We got the lamb skewers and the chicken skewers (mains). They were delicious. I preferred the sauce on the lamb, but if you like peanut sauce, go for the chicken. Money wise, with the skewers being $14, if you wanted sides, you d have to add them on for at least $5 each, so you re looking at for sure $20 or more per person. We decided to split a dessert. The pecan pie was a small bar so we decided to get something that looked a little bigger - the berry crumble - and it was great. Great for a date night. OH and the beers and service from Kiff Kafe were great - one of the best deals in LA for imported and craft beers.

Great outdoor patio. Great date night spot! I have a lot of food sensitivities, so I m grateful that every time I dine here I leave feeling nourished, healthy and full! Not to mention where else in LA can you get a bottle of wine for $30 at a restaurant? Will be back!
