Sushi Roku combines the finest, freshest fish from pristine waters around the globe with the kind of artistry that can only be provided by a mature sushi chef ensuring superlative traditional sushi, together with a splash of California innovation. Sushi Roku is a pioneer of contemporary sushi, incorporating diverse, non-traditional ingredients from Latin America (e.g. jalapeños) and Europe (e.g. olive oil) into its edible works of art.
This unique culinary experience that bridges past and present is the result of an eagerness to embrace new ideas and a profound respect for tradition. Sushi Roku’s bold and diverse menu also offers an array of hot and cold specialty appetizers and an extensive selection of exotic entrées.
We recently dined at sushi Roku at Santa Monica and had a decent experience. The sushi was fresh, but unfortunately, it didn't blow us away. The flavors and presentation were good, but nothing particularly special or memorable.
Our server was attentive, but a bit too enthusiastic. The loud commentary while serving became slightly distracting.
Overall, it's a solid choice for sushi, but not exceptional. Would consider returning, but hoping for more refinement in food and service next time.

One of the very few restaurant chains that maintains it sense of quality and elegance. A perfect rendezvous point for a couple or a business presentation. Beautiful ambiance, excellent food and service. If you eat red meat, you should try the wagu over crispy rice. Their sake selection in unparalleled.

Amazing service. A special thanks to our server Darya and the manager (unfortunately, we can’t remember his name) for making this dining experience exceptional. It’s such a pleasant surprise to find quality service in LA, where it’s often a hit or miss. Here, everything feels genuinely authentic, and the staff aren’t putting on an act — they really care, and it shows. We ordered a couple of rolls and sushi, and it was the perfect way to enjoy a cozy autumn evening in Santa Monica, with the autumn fog adding to the atmosphere. Highly recommend 👌🏻

My mother and I visited Sushi Roku on a lovely Sunday afternoon and indulged in the freshest seafood and small plates they offer. The food was delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented, with fast service to match. The cocktails were expertly crafted with the perfect combination of ingredients. Although we spent a significant amount of money, it was worth every dollar. The best dishes were the cauliflower in ponzu sauce with dates and the hamachi crudo. Every plate was a stunning culinary experience. We will be back for more. Grateful 🙏

This was a pretty good spot to stop in for dinner. I had their salmon plate and opted to have it with steamed rice. The wait staff was very nice and accommodating for my food intolerances. It is in a very nice and convenient location within walking distance of the Santa Monica Pier. It is definitely a nice option for dinner if you’re in the area.

Ordered many dishes and all were delicious. Not one complaint. My 7 year old son ordered the ramen and they specialized it for his taste (not spicy) and he LOVED IT!
Good for families, maybe not pre-school age. Didn’t see kid’s menu.
I’d come back again for more yokitori. Prices add up quick. $200+ for 3 people with 1 alcohol and 2 non- alcohol drinks.

I came to Vegas and LA for work and honeymoon, but I missed Japanese food so I visited this restaurant. I was served by a Japanese person, and he was very friendly and I had a great time. The atmosphere of the restaurant was calm and the food was very delicious. At the end of the meal, we were served a plate of dessert as a wedding gift. I was very happy. If I have a chance to visit LA again, I would definitely like to use it again. thank you very much!

Santa Monicas famous eatery is classified as upscale. The food is delicious. You can eat on the patio in the Santa Monica sunset atmosphere. However, since there is a cold wind along the coast, it gets cold at dusk, so although they will lend you a blanket, I think it would be better to bring a jacket. There seems to be an affiliated steak restaurant and yakitori restaurant. In addition to sushi, we also have steaks and small skewers. There was a menu of Japanese food that would sell well in Santa Monica. There is also fried rice and tonkotsu ramen. I think its better to make a reservation, as some restaurants around here wont allow you to move once you enter unless you specify an outside patio at the time of reservation.

Very underwhelming!!!! had reservation at 815. Didnt get seated until 9. What is the point of a reservation? Once sat we were rushed to order because the kitchen is closing in 45 minutes. Then the food: The lamb was horrible. Take it off the menu if you cant cook it right. The steak was eh Sushi was 50/50. Some were great. Many were eh The price is not worth the service, delays, rush, and quality delivered. We also never got 1 of the items ordered after 6 reminders. I also had to get up and get my own water as got tired of asking for water. Fabian was the only great employee in the entire restaurant. He was on it while it was chaos all else.

Food came out really quickly, lots of variety on the menu and I was really impressed with the prices. Waitstaff was lovely as well, did not have a single bad experience here.

This place is nothing but excellence, from the host who sat and offered recommendations, too the server who wasn t hovering but wasn t absent offered suggestions when I asked and was very attentive and knowledgeable. Even saw a serve help an elderly lady who walk up to place looking for help. He stopped and took time ti help even though she wasn t looking to dine. All three and others really made this place a restaurant to remember. The food was also perfect, while it is pricy you are not just paying for the food quality but then high level of service that comes with it. So it was worth every penny.

Nice restaurant and good atmosphere. Food is mediocre as it is trying too hard to be fusion. Dont order the Brussels sprouts fries unless you like slurping cooking oil. Our service was horrible, we sat outside and the waiter came by in 30 min intervals to refill our water glasses and to promise that our rolls are coming out now. Our rolls came out over an hour after we were served the rest of our order. The rolls were nothing special. We did get free desserts as compensation.

We were looking forward to dining here again after an amazing experience 9 years ago. The food was amazing, fresh and on point however the service was slow and average at best. We were on holiday from New Zealand and had planned our dining around reviews, reputation and places we had previously been. We could have gone to so many other places in LA on this particular evening so were left feeling disapointed. They accepted our 8:15pm booking but were slow to serve despite a relatively empty resturant, then were quick to tell us we needed to order so they could close the kitchen. Unfortunately, our worst dining expericnce during our time in California.

Kid-friendliness: No kids when I was there Wheelchair accessibility: Ground floor, so all good

Sushi Roku Is Recommended For Take Out If You Want Japanese Food. The Ramen Was Spicy With I Guess Spice Seasoning. Which Was Great. For That Price. The Wait Was 10-20 Minutes And Probably Smelled Great In There The Ramen Is Very Easy To Make A Mess Due To Its Cup And The Amount Of Soup In The Cup. Well I Guess They Can Put It In A Thicker Cup Instead Of A Thin But Aside That It Was Great.

I got the Katana roll and the California roll and sadly found that the California roll was actually more flavorful even though the Katana was twice the price. My friend also got the fried rice (made vegetarian) and they basically just cut up a green bean and added it to the rice. I also tried it and it was very bland for $14. Overall, wasnt a great food experience.

Its an upscale spot. I came in for the Happy Hour, 4-6 on Saturday. Christian was our bartender, on point, very accommodating, and had some stellar suggestions for food and beverages. Made us a drink called The Slope: gin, aperol, lillet, lemon and orange curacao Brussels Sprout Chips are light and airy, crunchy. Just the right occasional bite of salt. Not overbearing at all. Its a decent sized bowl. Hanabi Crispy Rice is a one bite delight for sure. The yellow tail is smooth and Fresh. Paired with the crispy rice, you get texture and taste all in one. 4 pieces. Japanese Fried Chicken: the presentation is nice. My only gripe is that the chicken inside seemed just a bit too stringy for my liking. Its still good. I think how the chicken is cut before they bread and fry it makes a huge difference. Seems like they cut it with the grain, not against the grain. Anyways, I would finish with the Chilean Seabass Skewer. 1 skewer per order, cut into 4 thumb sized sections. Buddy of mine ordered the Old Osaka, which is kind of like an Old Fashioned. Traditional, with a bit of a kick, and not as much of a sugar aftertaste. Its also been described as An old fashioned with Japanese Whiskey. 1/4 oz sugar, and dashes of bitters.

We went on OpenTable and were able to reserve a table and the host made an uncomfortable face gesture and said oh, you made a reservation? And proceeded to say well we are backed up it ll take about 30 minutes to attend you guys Clearly he was trying to make us leave so we did. I ve been here before when the boss (owner) is there and they would ve never done this should he had been there. Never ever going back here again and def never recommending this spot to my friends ever again

Extremely average at best - would not recommend. We compared the chicken fried rice to a microwave version we ate in college - which was still pretty good but not a comparison you want to be drawing from a restaurant version in Santa Monica. With so many other amazing restaurant choices in the area, I wouldn t choose this one. Was craving sushi and the sushi quality was pretty poor. I m from Ohio & have had much better sushi there even. The atmosphere and location were nice - I ll give them that.

Sushi Roku maybe a bit outdated with their sushi prep and presentation style but their customer centric service never goes out of style. You can always depend on sushi Roku for a 1999 American style good time with good service, good ambiance and decent sushi reasonably priced. I was glad I returned recently seeking refuge from the inconvenience of the recent establishment centric artisanal style where the food is likely to be good but the snobby service and inconvenience make it totally not worth it. Sushi Roku will always be my sushi go to in a jam. Their service is simply a JOY!

Wonderful sushi. Great plates, EXPENSIVE, so have an expense account :-) Wining and dining is what Sushi Roku is all about. Great location on Ocean Ave. so a stroll after a terrific dinner to walk off some of the alcohol is a great way to end an evening.

I am giving three stars because of the great service and the appetizers being delicious. But the actual sushi wasnt great. The miso soup was really good and savory, but the sushi wasnt great. There wasnt that great of a selection of sushi either, but I really did enjoy being able to see the ocean and Santa Monica. It is a quick walk to the pier, which is nice.

Exceeded all expectations! A divine experience. The fish here is superior to the Las Vegas location.

Beautiful views! Great atmosphere! The food is AMAZING! The seared albacore is perfectly done and the crunchy onions are insane, I could have eaten a whole plate of them. Highly recommend

This place was a serious sushi place years ago (like 16-17 years ago) now is basically a tourist trap with below par service
