8 months ago I was in Arizona and stopped and ate at a Black Bear Dinner in Bullhead. I believe I did a review, anyway when I saw that they were here had to go. The first thing I noticed was the difference in the setup. Bears everywhere. And you can purchase the different types of Black Bear items. Now the food... I ordered the meatloaf, green beans, and mashed potatoes with gravy. Let me tell you about the green beans. So full of flavor I was mad that the bowl was small! Yes. It's that good if you like little chucks of bacon and onions. The meatloaf was average, not bad could've put vegetables or more seasoning. The mashed potatoes were good. So glad they are close because I will be back for breakfast 😋

I've had dinner here before and it was great. Unfortunately this time around the service was very poor. We didnt get all of our food that we had ordered and it took a while to get a waiter to come over to our table so we could let them know. Once we let the waiter know we were missing food he had a bit of an attitude and looked like he wasn't very happy to be there working. The food was cold and not very good this time around. I don't like giving reviews like this but I felt it should be said. We were a party of 10 so I understand that it might of been a little more difficult to handle all of us. My bill came out to $215, and although the service was less than poor I still tipped $85. I figured the employees helping out might of just been having a bad day and I wanted to make sure I still took care of them even if they did t take care of us. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great but overall service was bad.

This was my wife & I first visit To Black 🐾 Bear 🐻 Diner on Hawthorne blvd. Near Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). We went there on Saturday night for dinner There's plenty of parking But only two handicap ♿️ we sit down at the booth The waitress came up to us To take our order The menu is like a newspaper📰her name was Lori She was very polite and kind.
helpful on Taking our order We wasn't there 5 minutes before Our Salad 🥗 came We didn't get through the salad before our Main course To the table. I had the BBQ spare ribs🐮 and shrimp 🦐 The ribs were nice and tender with a lot of barbecue sauce My wife had the Turkey dinner She said it was very moist. My bill was pretty reasonable two $45.83 I would definitely Recommend to family and friends Believe me, we will be going back for more. The food was Great and Excellent!! They even have a little section at the checkout for Bakery goods I got a 🍌banana cream pie. My wife got a coconut🥥 cream pie. You gotta run to the Black Bear🐾 and the Restrooms 🚽were very clean 🤗👍....

Just one of the best breakfast places around. Nick was our server and he was outstanding. Very knowledgeable and patient with our indecisiveness. Pancakes are amazing, sausage is house made and amazing. Go eat here!!

My boyfriend dined here while having his truck serviced and he said he had a great time sitting at the counter chatting and joking with Mama Bear . When we walked in today he immediately greeted by Mama Bear with cute dance and we had a great breakfast.. definitely a place to return to. Thx Mama Bear .

Black Bear Diner is a chain originally from Mount Shasta up in Northern California and currently has a number of locations around LA and Riverside. I would say it s like an upscale Denny s in that there will be fast food and fair prices but quality will not be as good as some smaller local places. They have a giant menu that is filled with all sorts of breakfast classics and the portion sizes are very large. This location has a large free parking lot attached otherwise street parking is also easy to find. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our table our Saturday brunch, but it was quite busy when we arrived. I chose the California Bacon Benedict, which has avocado, thick cut bacon, tomato, and spinach on a traditional English muffin. I will say the eggs were done well and overall, it was very good although I would probably suggest skipping the spinach. We also ordered a waffle for the side and it was very good, but it was quite dense. I wish it was a little bit fluffier. Overall I think it s fair to say Black Bear is a solid four out of five but I would dine here again when in the area. Parking: free parking lot attached

Today s visit to Black Bear diner wasn t good at all, me and my family are from Arizona and we genuinely love Black Bear Diner. This one overall was honestly the worst experience ive had. The staff isn t attentive to the guests at all. We ve waited for an hour and the only times they ve checked our table was the order and getting our drinks. After that hour we honestly walked out since we would see other guests get served not waiting that long after sitting down which got us irritated. As we got up and left they didn t bother asking us to stay and just gave excuses. Dont go here anytime soon, atleast until they work things out with their staff. P.s. They ve got very little parking.

This seems to be true midwestern comfort food at its finest! I admit that I am a SoCal native, so if I m wrong, please forgive me. But wow, I will definitely be back! I wanted the pot roast, but they had already sold out. I got a cobbler, and let me tell you it s a 2+ person serving! Everything was delicious!!

We were a walk-in party of 8 at Black Bear Diner during breakfast hours. We were warmly greeted by Mama Bear (Janette - apologies if spelling is incorrect). She welcomed us and made us smile from the moment we walked in the door. One seated, we met our server was Antonio! He was on top of everything! We seriously looked forward to seeing her as we had breakfast. Between her and Antonio we are so glad we took the drive to dine in at Black Bear. The staff was beyond amazing!!! The food was just as good as the service! 10/10 recommend!

Originally found this great restaurant on our trip to Santa Cruz and fell in love, we were lucky enough to find another one closer to us in Torrance when we got back home, Great place and food, certain hours it is busier so be ready to wait a bit but never too long, all that being said it is still a great place to eat and always worth the wait, staff is incredible and Mama Bear is the best. 8/18/2024 Parking: Plenty of parking available.

This place has a lot of senior folks and I can see why, like me looking for value in a meal. I like Black Bear diner and look forward to their prime rib days. I tried this location and my visit was somewhat mixed. The first thing when I walk in- you are hit with this obnoxious smell. It smell like a urinal. It was just bad. it was a big turn off. Being that the restroom is right at the entrance. After a while, I returned and was surprised to see that it feels cleaner and smells better. Returned once more, this time, like every time to get the prime rib. I was incredibly disappointed when it came out. The prime rib was grilled on both sides like a piece of steak. I ask what is this and they say it was too rare and they had to grill it. It had caramelized on both sides like a well charred steak. I objected that this is not prime rib and unlike anything I have ever seen. Prime rib is cooked and sliced to serve. You don t fry it. I had it with this fools at this location and will never ever return. Ruined my appetite and could not fathom choosing something else and walked out. What a screwed up experience.

Food is as expected. Service was surprisingly bad. Here is a gest of what happened. So we ordered some wine, and the wine was too sour (expired), which is not ok giving your customers food poisoning for keeping a wine open for months, but I get it. It happens. I asked for the waiter and told her that the wine is expired so she took two full glasses of wine and left. I explained, since you guys werent careful of how long the wine can stay open Im not comfortable ordering any thank you. She went and came back saying sorry the management said that they cant take it off the bill because wine sales are final. ( as if, other food items are not and one can ask for refund ) mishaps happen and thats ok, but if you are not willing to take off expired item served to your customers. I dont trust what you are willing to use as ingredients. I hope you guys get a better manager who is not willing to provide expired food and not willing to take it out of the bill when they are called on it . Cheers

Well known restaurant BLACK BEAR DINER in California. This location on Hawthorne Blvd and Pacific Coast Highway was my 1st visit. The parking lot has ample spaces including handicap . Entrance door easy-to-use for wheelchair . Various pictures showing different types of bears in the wild. Front of the building a carved wood statue of a bear, where you can stop take a photo. The staff was greeting everyone that entered with a smile and verbal hellos or welcome. I was there on a week day..arrived about 10AM. Interior was impressively large the atmosphere was like being in the forest wildlife dining clean. I like the way the tables made of wood seating for 4 people ot booths for those who wanted or smaller booths for 2 or 1 person. There was no waiting however to my surprise the place was busy. I had no wait, escorted to a table for 2 cozy spot it was just me. After being seated immediately a staff member laid a newspaper like menu saying good morning asked me what would I care to drink said my choice he left and returned less than 10 seconds with drink in hand. I was impressed how attentive he was. Asked me is this my 1st time and questions about the menu. Nice table service. Reading my newspaper menu huge selections from Breakfast to lunch or dinner to bearclub desserts. The patrons were talking, laughing, families dining with toddlers the place was busy. I place my order you will see the photo of shredded cornbread hash with sourdough bread with egg whites. It was tasty. It was hot and three types of seasons Papa Bear extremely hot Mama Bear was mild then Baby Bear was just that! (See photo). Paid my bill. Upon exiting there was a crowd of people coming into the entrance to eat.

I liked going to BBD in Vegas. But the one here in Torrance has never been good. Sorry but service is slow, food is unappealing. Once got the butt end of an orange with my meal. They pack the omelets with way too many ingredients. I dont want an entire can of spinach in my omelet please. Also the bell pepper is just raw and uncooked. Ive tried justifying this restaurant but I really cant anymore. Has been terrible every time since Ive lived here.

I ve been to black bear diners throughout California, this location comes in first with Oakland/Emeryville in second. The main reason for the top spot is service, the food is always great. We enjoy the large menu. Lots of options. Food is consistently good. Lots of comfort food and baked food offerings.

Mama bear (Jeannette) was amazing and communicated with us to sit us down and accommodated or family of 20. Our Server(Kamara) she was amazing and friendly with out family. I recommend this place for family breakfast sundayfunday!! Thanks guys!!!

Black Bear Diner in Torrance is the place to go for genuinely friendly service and hearty portions with prices that dont break you!! They open at 6am which makes it even better, plus theres plenty of parking. Everyone that works there is such a pleasure! And quick to help! Food was so good and my water and coffee cups were always full. As I was leaving, I met Mama Bear, who rang me up... what a gem of a person!!! By the end of my transaction I felt like Id known her forever. She is amazing!!! Such a fun lady! Mama Bear makes everyone feel welcome!!! Ill definitely be back!!

Nice spacious restaurant however i gotta say food was not the best to be honest. chicken soup tasted like from can and the side coleslaw tasted funky.

My server, Andrea, was excellent. There were only 2 servers & really should have had one or two more to handle number of people in restaurant. Waiting time for meals was considerably longer than usual. Dont know if that was fault of cooks, but waiting to get meals was way too long. Many of those seated around me had been in restaurant prior to my arrival & most of them had not received their meals yet. Andrea & the other server should be commended for keeping their cool under such stress. If I owned a restaurant, I would hire these two servers away from you. Management needs to fix this problem. - Ann Shattuck (p.s. Turkey dinner was very good.)

I love this place it reminds me of National Lampoons Vacation. I wish this restaurant had a theme park. I had my birthday freebie that was delicious and the customer service was great.

Went there for Sunday breakfast with my niece Monica, the service was great.....the food was awesome and got to meet Mama Bear...such a sweet heart of a lady...I told her, we will be returning!
