Oyster Bar with great Seafood, Craft Beer and Wine.
Stopped in for a quick bite before the Dodgers got beat by the Diamondbacks again (sorry). 😂 The menu and proximity to my hotel is what brought me in. The food, service, and atmosphere is what will bring me back. Cozy little place packed with huge flavors. I had the 1/2 dozen oysters from the happy hour menu and the ahi tuna tostada. Impressive! The cocktail sauce for the oysters had the perfect amount of horseradish in it. The tuna tostada was a wonderful infusion of citrus and heat!
I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other things in the menu.
There were tables for seating and of course the bar with a few tvs showing the games.

High end dining in a casual atmosphere.
Petite platter- perfect for a date night. The seafood is beyond fresh and seasoned to perfection. As someone who isn’t familiar with oysters, it looks like the more expensive ones are larger. Just an FYI for other beginners so you don’t automatically go for the cheaper ones initially.
Clam Chowder- when it says “toast” it’s just means homemade croutons ☺️. Really delicious but leans too heavily on the bacon maybe.
Szechuan green beans- more than enough for two people! Not too spicy but has a kick. I wish they’d served these with small tongs for serving.
Calamari- above average, hits the spot if that’s what you’re craving. I probably wouldn’t order again.
Truffle fries- very salty but hit the spot.

Overall, a pretty decent place that might be flying under the radar for what they're offering.
The place has this backyard bbq theme going with the layout of an old diner. Long bar top wrapping around the center of the restaurant, a few high tables on one side and picnic tables to the other side.
Presentation of the food and service were great. Attentive staff, upscale feel from just the plate ware and no hesitation to accommodate for small requests.
Selection of craft beer were pretty decent as well and covered the gamut for every palate. If you know what you're looking at you can see that there are some pretty good labels that a local cicerone would have been interested in.
Kumiai Oysters ($28): Few of the oysters were at that spawning stage (milky texture) or shucked to oblivion but you can't help but appreciate the presentation of shaved ice and the not-so-average ceramic(?) serving platter compared to the thin aluminum pie plates. Definitely appreciate the effort of visual appeal here.
Black and Blue Burger ($19): Sweet, bitter, and all kinds of funky is the only way to describe this burger. Personally, I would have appreciated the bun to have a little more crunch for texture contrast but it was a solid burger.
Shrimp Po Boy ($19): Huge pieces of extra crispy shrimp (almost prawn size) and a soft french bread with just the right ratio of mayo spread across. Not much on bringing heat from the jalapeno mayo but another solid item on the menu.
Huge portion of fries on the side (don't forget to ask for extra ketchup) and upgrading to truffle fries with flaky Parmesan cheese might have been an overkill with so much going on with the burger.
Mon - Wed happy hour is super enticing as well. We'll be back to try more next time.

Came into town, and this restaurant, (Crooked Gaff Kitchen & Oyster Bar) was "near me," according to Google search. My experience as follows:
Arrive here around 7:40PM. Small and tight parking lot. We had to circle around the block a few times, and then finally, we saw a party coming out the restaurant to the parking lot going to their vehicle. We pulled behind to wait for them to depart the parking spot. Once they got in the car, said a prayer, rotate the tires, did their laundry, including a session of flatulence, they finaly put their vehicle in reverse and drove away, then we were able to pull into the said parking spot.
This was a packed house some people waiting outside and inside very loud! All tables and bar were filled to the max! We got our names on the list for two (2).
After about 30 minutes, as promised, the very nice young lady took us to our upscale picnic style table, and thanking us for our patience.
About 10 minutes later, our server Ernesto came over to take our orders, thanking us for our patience. We asked for one (1) Margarita and two (2) waters, please. The Wife asked for half a dozen of the fresh oysters with horseradish on the side. We both ordered the Salmon Entrée.
Margarita arrived (no lime) before the water. Sip Sip! A little bitter, tasted rushed/watered down. I will stick to the safely of my glsss of my arrived water.
Oysters arrived without the requested horseradish (reminded them to bring the horseradish) for my wife. My wife ready to dig in, asked me if there were any silverware. I didn't see any on the table, but just like magic, our faithful server arrived on the que. My wife loved the Oysters! She said they were very fresh and delicious. She did ask if there was bread service, and looking around, I didn't see any on other tables.
Aa time went on a very nice candle man came around to the tables to light the candles.
Demolished oysters plate was picked up by our observant server. It is now 8:35 pm.
As I am waiting for the Entrées I'm looking around, and the place is kept clean and organized considering how busy it is here.
At 8:45PM, our very nice candle man brought our Entrées with a HOT Plate warning ⚠️ . The Chef/Owner understood the assignment! The food presentation was spot on! Salmon plate was fresh, and piping HOT 🔥 the rice mix was perfect and unique. I was hoping to get a water refill like everyone else, so my Wife offered me hers.
8:55PM check arrived. I would have gone with the bread pudding, but I wasn't asked. I have some ginger snaps back at the Airbnb Castle up the street.
If I were to grade this new found establishment, I would give it a B+. I observed that everyone worked as a support team for each other, and the customer service was awesome. I would re-look at the Margarita ingredients. We would probably(?) return back here when I am back in this area to try that Skirt Steak and Bread Pudding!
Getting back to my car in the parking lot I noticed the lights could be better on the far side. Too Dark. Another car pulled in for my spot so I "quickly" got out of their way! 😉

Best thing was the burger. I love desserts and the dessert wasn’t all that unfortunately. The shrimp po’boy sandwich needed an extra kick to it to for it to be memorable. The oysters were good, just wished they had better sauces for them. Nice ambiance, definitely need to come back for other options.

We have been waiting for the opportunity to try this place after the name changed. Service was top notch and couldn't find anything wrong with the food. Superb. Menu is thoughtful and has quite the variety of land, sea and vegetarian options. Flavors are bold and playful on the palate, but in a warm and inviting way. We will be back.

This place is a hidden gem. The food is excellent. The truffle fries, clam chowder and crab esquite delicious. Great customer service.
At the time I walked in, I didn't wait to be seated I just picked an empty table. They have a bar and nice selections.
Parking is small but you can find street parking, area seems safe as the City Hall is just accross the street.

The food was good but extremely overpriced. Unfortunately the portion sizes are ridiculously small for the price tag, especially the Paella. Almost $50 for a kids size plate. Its a shame because the menu has potential. The cocktails werent any better. Flavorless glasses of alcohol. No creativity, no pride in crafting a delicious drink.

I ve been coming to The Crooked Gaff for a few years now, and last night was probably one of the best meals I ve had there. For my birthday dinner, they truly did not disappoint. We had the shrimp and crab ceviche, tuna crudo, oysters, surf and turf, and clam chowder. Everything was exceptional. The ceviche and tuna crudo were a standout with their vibrant flavors, a rarity that made every bite delightful. The tuna crudo, paired with macha salsa and rice, was phenomenal the freshness of the tuna surpassed even that of high-end sushi restaurants. The surf and turf, featuring perfectly grilled shrimp and a steak cooked to a perfect medium, offered a generous portion and exquisite taste. The service was equally impressive. Our waitress was attentive, regularly checking on us, and the beer selection was also excellent. More people need to visit The Crooked Gaff to experience the incredible food they re preparing. Highly recommended!

The Acoustics in this restaurant are horrible there was a group two tables away, the ladies at the table were LOUD and laughing even louder. No one from the staff asked them to keep it down. We had to leave early due to the obnoxious table. When we were heading out, my husband mentioned to the table how loud they were ..our waitress then asked my husband to leave. Unbelievable!!!! We will not return. As we were standing outside another group came out saying the same thing regarding the noise. It would have been very simple to ask the table to keep it down a bit.

Okay, we all need to venture out to Uptown Whittier more often. Decided to try this restaurant after we saw My Whittier s social media post. We were hungry and all over the menu. I ordered Korean Pork Belly tacos, Esquite, and clam chowder. Husband ordered an Oyster shooter, shrimp cocktail, and shrimp tacos. We shared everything. I can t even describe this elevated food. Everything was on flavor point! The chowder was a Smokey chowder and delicious! The shrimp cocktail and tacos were beefy shrimps! The Esquite was on point! My husband absolutely enjoyed his oyster shooter! This menu is robust! Seafood, burgers, oysters, fish and chips, the menu goes on! Come out and try it! Our server Mariana is a gem!! Sorry no photos.

Not a family-friendly restaurant. On 10/7/2022, our party of 8, which included my 2 year old son and 3 year old nephew, were asked to keep the noise down because other patrons complained about their joyous laughter and screaming. Apparently they were triggered by children enjoying themselves in a place that was already loud before we got there. Luckily there are several other places in uptown that will welcome our noisy children and our money.

Excellent local spot with amazing flavors. We started off with a clam chowder and aa crunchy poke taco. The clam chowder was definitely made from scratch. It had bacon, potatoes, baby clams and some zess tagged with a Texas toast. Our main dish ahi tuna, green beans and a purple rice and pesto pasta. At first it seemed intimidating but after taking a bite it was over people. Incredibly tasteful, the tuna and green beans were so tender. To end our night we order a bread pudding with ice cream. I really enjoyed the ice cream. It tasted like real old school ice cream. I must say that will not be the last time I go.

You might know the building as the old Portsmouth, however, Crooked Gaff has added delicious small and large portion choices for the die hard foodies such as myself. Here are a few highlights to tempt your palette; salmon with truffel rissoto, fresh pressed corn tortillas filled with pork or cauliflower, Japanese squash with heaven attached to it, fresh oysters. All of these and many more, wrapped in a friendly bar with terrific staff. Thank you, for being different!!!!!

We were staying at the Doubletree across from CGK and didnt feel like driving to eat. So we just went here. OMG!!! What a gem! We had the calamari, shrimp cocktail and clam chowder(heaven!)to start. Did I mention we were hungry. Lol It was beyond amazing. Our main dishes were pork chop and iron skillet steak. So flavorful and beautiful. Cant say enough! Best meal we had staying in LA!

So good. In uptown Whittier, hidden behind Ricks burgers. Different owner than 2 + years ago. Food is always on point. Some of the menu is seasonal. Craft beers, wine, sangria. Our go to is the pork belly bao, any tacos they have, cheese plate, esquite, steak and the pork chop that is on the menu!! The brunch on sunday tastes amazing. Fresh and flavorful, honestly I have never ate anything bad here.

Went here on 5/1/19. The place was almost empty besides one other party around lunch time. The service was prompt and welcoming. I think the prices are very fair for what theyre trying to do: Great craft beer selection and fresh food.

Saw nothing but 5 stars. After eating here still haven t found a five star restaurant in Whittier. The charbroiled oysters had a different take but were ok. If you want decadent charbroiled oysters you still got to go to New Orleans. The oysters Rockefeller were an epic fail tasted like melted jack cheese. An oyster bar without a full liquor bar is just not an oyster bar. Sincerely, International Foodie + 1
